We have been eating here for years and its always been a fantastic experience! The new digs over off of Buttermilk (across the street from where they used to be) are really nice! Very swanky decor in there now with a lot of space, which is nice because it was apparent for a while that their customer base had outgrown their space in the previous place. We have never had bad food or a bad service in this establishment. Their food is excellent! Some of the best sushi in NKY for sure!

Oh Sweet basil! If you're a fan of Asian food, looking for a new spot to try or want a quick lunch/dinner option check out sweet basil! Fresh, high quality and a great value. We tried the ginger chicken, beef/broccoli with curry, tom yum chicken and mushroom soup and the fried gyoza. All were prepared perfectly and the spice level of 7/10 on the entrées absolutely hit the spot! Highly recommend if you are in the area or if you are looking for an alternative to downtown/NKY lunch options.

They do a nice job taking care of you, but the nori was very dry, and the tuna was not firm. Only one sake in hot or cold. Order one of the more exotic rolls, they show they deficiencies with the basics. Better than grocery store sushi, but lacking in something. Had four rolls and none were very powerful. There's a better place down the street.

The Good: the food, decor, customer service, speed. The Bad: nothing really. The Rundown: I have seen this place pop up a few times when I have been in Newport, I have to say that I am disappointed I haven't stopped by until now. Their food is delicious. Their service is incredibly fast and the customer service is courteous and fast. I like how they let you choose your heat level as well. The Impression: the food is wonderful, the service is great, this is a place I may come to each time I'm leaving Cincinnati.

Solid Thai restaurant in NKY. We we immediately greeted, seated and given waters. Which was sweet because both of us were STARVING. The restaurant was spacious and actually pretty full for a Monday night at 9. You could tell this is a local favorite. I tried the papaya salad at a spice level 6 (their scale is 1-10) and it was decently spicy! The papaya was firm and it came with tomato and some green beans. I thought it was a little heavy on the sauce, actually a lot, like a pool of residual sauce on the plate which was overwhelming especially near the last couple bites but other than that, very flavorful, and I loved the crushed peanuts to add texture. Highly recommended was the Classic Thai spicy so I tried that with shrimp and loved it! A good portion of decent sized shrimp, and vegetables in a red curry sauce. I recommend this as I did not have leftovers and it really was a serving meant for two...whoops. My had the pad Thai chicken which I was also good, classic pad Thai. I liked this place and will probably be back because 1. Service was excellent, they weren't overly in our faces but they did keep our drinks full. 2. Food came out within 15-20 mins. 3. They care about presentation with their meals--talking carrot shaped roses and orange slice decor on our entrees. 4. They offer something for everybody! Sushi, noodle dishes, rice, soups and I even saw popcorn chicken as an appetizer! Crowd pleaser for sure.

Manager offered a free sushi roll to compensate for the lack of chopsticks in my carry out order. I still haven't gone back to get it, but I probably will eventually. He seemed genuinely apologetic.

Somethings changed since the move. Suddenly I'm getting all peppers and onions and no basil or beef. To bad used to be great food but after 3 tries, you're out

Been here quite a few times and each time I have been here the service is always nice, food is always fresh and hot, and it is always clean. My mom and I decided to stop by after the zoo because she has been craving one of their dishes here. It's nice, quaint, and simple. Besides water I always ordered jasmine tea (which you can never go wrong with). My mom ordered the summer roll for an appetizer and I ordered the seaweed salad. The salad smaller then expected, but was very good. For the main entree I ordered the pork salad. The pork was steamed with crunchy lettuce underneath. I ordered a 6 spice level and was plenty. I don't like eating super spicy food where you can't even enjoy the flavor. It was perfect, a little kick along with a strong cilantro and mint flavor. All and all this restaurant is always on point and consistent.

This is the real deal! It's hard for me to find good Thai food. I'm really picky and some places serve crappy pad thai. I was out with some friends and was talking about having sushi at Miyako, but he mentioned this place. Not sure when they moved here but they expanded to this bigger location. It's your typical Asian restaurant. Simple decor and spacious. It's cleaner than most (even bathroom was clean) and not dusty/muggy inside. The server seated us right away and gave us waters. We started off with the Philadelphia Salmon Roll as an appetizer. That came out right away and the rice and salmon was fresh. Very good. We decided to order a bunch of meals and share since we were craving both sushi and noodles. Here is what we got: -Tofu Pad See Ew -Chicken Pad Thai -American Idol Roll (Nigiri-Tuna & Salmon, California Roll) -Tofu Side Salad with Peanut Sauce on the Side (for me) -Fried Shrimp Tempura Roll. -Side Ginger salad (my friend ordered that before she got her meal) We got our salads before our meals came out. Some places bring it out at the same time (with your dinner) and I hate that they do not ask. Meals was at our tables within 15 mintues. That was super quick. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the Tofu Pad see Ew. The noodles was not hard and they put enough tofu and vegetables. Chicken Pad Thai (we ordered the spice on the side because one of my friends likes it mild) was so good! Chicken was not tough, noodles not mushy or hard, and a fair amount of cashews. And of course the sushi was excellent! Both noodle meals were hot. Server always checked up on us and was refilling our water right away. We ended up with a to go box because they gave a fair amount of food. Pricing was also reasonable for lunch. Look for lunch and dinner specials on billboard before you walk in or ask. Love this place and what a great experience! Too bad they don't have a location in Cincinnati, I would go there every week if they did!

I was happy to find out they have half price wine and appetizers from 5pm-7pm. I like to get Malbec paired with sweet basil bites. Along with their delicious spicy lamp chop for the perfect meal. I look forward to going back soon!

Oh man, SO good! Their classics are good, but their fun, special sushi rolls are PERFECT. I recommend the sweet honey roll or the Hawaiian roll. Delicious, fast service, and a cute, locally owned place that deserves credit for authentic cuisine!

I have been to this place only a few times, but those times I went were good experiences. If you were looking for good Thai food at a slightly higher than average price this is a good choice. Quick and easy take out.. A solid pick for a Thai restaurant.

Sweet Basil is AWESOME! You can't beat the prices and they are always super speedy when it comes to getting your food out. I've only eaten from the appetizer and lunch menu (I get it to go while at work), and it's always consistent. It's hard to choose just one thing because it's all delicious.

Stopped for lunch off the interstate and wanted to avoid chains. Lunch menu was a blend of Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese favorites. Food was hot, fresh, and nicely spiced. My wife had the pad Thai which was unremarkable. However, the pho, duck soup, and beef fried rice were all better than average. Decor was pleasant and comfortable; staff were prompt and friendly. Also, portions were large, considering the lunch menu pricing. I'm glad we stopped here.

Yay! Thai food! :) Carb loading for the Cincinnati Flying Pig marathon had never been more delicious! I had been craving Thai for a while and since I was staying nearby in Erlanger, KY, Sweet Basil seemed to be the way to go. I was here with 4 of my marathoner friends for dinner at 6:30pm on a recent Saturday. Finding the place proved to be a small challenge, but it was okay. Sweet Basil is your typical, but authentic Thai cuisine place that takes everything to a different level. Fortunately for me, everything felt at ease here and with good company, having dinner with friends made the trip more memorible than I would be running the marathon itself. The overall experience here at Sweet Basil was a good, typical one. Most of my friends had already sat down, so I came in and saw them already, in the middle section of the room. I did enjoy the ambiance of this small restaurant. while it was small, it had its potential. :) Sweet Basil Thai restaurant is located in Crescent Springs, KY @ 2331 Buttermilk Crossing in a strip mall off the I-71/75. There is plenty of parking here at this strip mall, so I was glad to get a space in front of the restaurant. Sweet Basil accepts credit cards, so that's always a great thing. In addition to Thai cuisine, they also feature a sushi bar, which a friend of mine did just that, while myself and the others had ordered Thai food instead. A couple of people ordered pad Thai, whereas I just did something different and had the spicy eggplant dish, which was served with white rice, and summer rolls. I also had a Sam Adams beer as well. They had Pho, but I already had picked up KY for my 50 states Pho challenge. Maybe Thai food is good for marathons? We'll find out! The service here can be not as personal as you may think, but it does serve its purpose. They take your order, serve you, give you a check, and say thank you, at most. I thought that the service was polite and adequate. The spicy eggplant dish was good and the eggplants were breaded. I thought they would have prepared the eggplant a little differently, but that's how it goes. The spiciness of the dish was nice and welcomed. It was delicious and went well with the white rice. I did get a couple of compliments from my friends who said that was a good choice for dinner and I credit partially to Yelp for making me choose a good place for dinner! Thank you yelpers for that! The restaurant is clean and well managed. The prices can be a little high, but its Thai food, so it can be up there, when you are in northern Kentucky. Support local! B

I had lunch here for the first time. My daughter loves this place and took me here. I had chicken Pad Thai and tried my daughter's yellow chicken curry and also my other daughter's broccoli noodle dish. All tasted very good and looked good too. Complimentary cabbage soup, that was very good and fresh, was also served. I also had a spring roll that was hot and tasty. We all enjoyed our food and will be back. The service was good and the waitress friendly. Nice atmosphere & decor. The bathroom was clean.

This is hands down the best thai food I have ever had. The thai spicy eggplant is to die for. Bonus, if you eat there you get the soup before the meal...and if you're really lucky "Pook" will be the one serving it to you. People are great and so is the menu. You absolutely must check this place out if you're in the area.

Always happy to come here..been trying new dishes every time.. the peanut sauce salad and pad Thai is hubby's fav

  • Kristy D.

The entrees were delicious & even the kids loved their dinners. Everyone needed a to-go box, the portions were large enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day. BUT... then we found 2 hairs in our sushi and we were really grossed out that we had just eaten their food. Taste = 5 stars, hygiene = 1 star, so my rating is an avg of 3 stars. Inspect your plates before you eat if you choose to dine here!

Their food is great! The chicken satay is delicious, the Spicy tuna roll is so fresh, and the chicken pad Thai is amazing! Will definitely go back again!! Customer service is great too!!

This restaurant is off the interstate surrounded by fast food joints. I stopped in for sushi and it was great! Good prices and nice atmosphere. It really is a gem. Has a Thai menu as well that is well priced. Great for families and businesses travelers who want something quick and healthy.

Initially I wanted to give this place a one star review BUT I do remember a time when the food was pretty decent. However the last 3 times I have eaten here we were really disappointed. Every dish from the Thai soup with meatballs, pineapple fried rice, pad Thai was unappealing. Won't dine again.

Great Thai food. Spicy and fresh tasting, it never disappoints! They also have great service and carry out is available. Never had the sushi so can't comment on that but this is our favorite Thai restaurant on the KY side.

We were looking for a healthier alternative for dinner on the way through, and came upon Sweet Basil. The atmosphere is nice, with a menu full of options from traditional Thai dishes to sushi rolls, and even some curry options. The food quality was very good, the service was nice, friendly and attentive. I ordered the Pho, with a little spice (7 was the perfect amount of heat!), and my wife ordered the summer rolls and a bowl of Tom Kha (coconut milk) soup. My only complaint is that the Pho was already mixed, and I am accustomed to having a dish on the side with all of the accompaniments. I like to be able to add sprouts, lime, jalapeño, etc... and this did not allow for that. My wife mentioned that her soup was excellent, but the summer rolls left little to be desired.... she was really looking forward to them, but was a bit disappointed. All in all, it was a great stop, and we left full & happy!

My first visit. I like spicy food, but it is difficult to find spicy food around here. I usually try a 5, and even when I return for a 10 later, I wish they had a 20, 30, or 99 level. However, the 5 I was served here today was definitely not for the timid!! I was amazed . . . I had red curry chicken. I liked the quantity of curry sauce - I ran out of rice before I ran out of sauce. Usually I have to eat lots of dry rice. I do want to try the other flavors of curry before I decide how much I like their food. I had fried tofu appetizer with a dipping sauce. It was dry not moist. The triangles were cut much smaller than I'm accustomed to in Japan, for example. When it is moist, it needs no dip! I picked some sushi and a mango dessert to go. I have not eaten it yet.

Yum! Called in an order for take out. Had to call twice before I could speak to someone. Food was ready quickly. I had to wait to pick it up not bc the food wasn't ready but bc the waitress was busy helping other customers. The food was so good it made up for all of that. Not that those minor things were even a big deal because they were so friendly!

First let me say this place is really good for being in N.Kentucky. I usually eat here if I'm in the Cincinnati area since there are lots of vegetarian options but... the prices are kinda high for what you get. The dumplings and edamame tasted like they had been frozen. They use a weird combination of but super basic Americana vegetables. Weird because there will be fresh, canned and frozen veggies all in the same dish of the same vegetable. Julien cut carrots were fresh but the cubed ones were frozen. We also notice this with the green beans, cabbages and the asparagus too. They dont seem to use any tradional Thai or Asian veggies or mushrooms. I'm left to wonder if this is because of availability due to the region or the region being skeptical of different foods. The wait staff were fine and very minimal. Also every time I have eaten there it's hot. The air in the seating area was was thick but when you walk to back to use the restrooms it's nice and cool.

This place is good. My boyfriend and I just moved to this side of the river and quickly noticed that my favorite food choice (Thai) was severely lacking. We FINALLY found Sweet Basil and I am really happy with it. We had the Crab Puffs to start out, and then I ordered the Yellow Curry Chicken and he got the Thai Basil Chicken. Both meals (and appetizer) were damn good. My favorite (and the true tester on whether the restaurant is legit) is their "spicy meter". You can get it 1 through 10 in terms of spicy but when you order it "Thai hot", they give it to you Thai hot (you actually have to order it at 15 if you want it Thai Hot). It is awesome. I haven't tried their sushi yet but this place is for real. Check it out. NOTE: I tried Pad Thai on a subsequent visit, and, while others rave about it, I found it completely lackluster and weak. In my opinion, this place specializes in its sauces so curries are good and anything on the Thai Basil list is good but some of their noodle dishes leave something to be desired. Just my opinion.

Great first time experience here! The papaya salad is fresh and delicious and brought me back to my time in Bangkok. The three flavor, deep fried red snapper fish was amazing. Curry is solid here too. This is one of the best thai restaurants I've been to in the OH/KY area. Excellent, fast service too.

  • Dan M.

Came here for lunch with my family on the way to the airport. Everything in my stir fry was actually steamed, not stir fried. The meat was squishy. The sauce was bland. The dish, beef & broccoli, was full of carrots (a cheap ingredient used to cut costs). Everyone else's dishes were equally lackluster. The only thing saving it from one star is the fact that it was cheap. I'll be in town at any number of better Thai spots. Bottom Line: I'll never be back.

  • Janey K.

I'm giving "Sweet Basil" a four only because I haven't experienced a lot of Thai and feel that it's unfair to say it's the best (even though it's darn good!) when I have only tried a handful of restaurants. I will say -- I enjoy it thoroughly... and I drive farther to eat there vs. eating at the thai place closer to me. That says something, eh? So far, my favorites are Pad Thai and Thai Spicy. I prefer to eat there during lunch because (1) prices are more reasonable, and (2) they throw in a cup of free soup. The lunch menu is definitely smaller than dinner., so if you're looking to try something exotic, go for dinner. One of the waiters has a shamrock tattoo on his lower arm. I don't know why that makes me happy, but it does. :-)

When you come across a restaurant that tells you they do Thai cuisine and a Sushi bar do you, a:) question whether such dis-separate cuisines can co-exist; or b:) find yourself in a quandary as to which one you should go with; or c:) charge right into the midst of the menu and order from all the columns? Well no matter, you'll be in good hands at Sweet Basil. This is a local place with straight forward Thai and sushi that hits all the high notes at a very reasonable price point. Five of us managed to eat, have a bottle of wine, and skip the deserts for slightly over $100 bucks! That's a value meal for sure. Chicken in green curry sauce has a great little bite on their scale of hotness around a 5. Crispy fish looked like large portions and our guests were on the mild #2 hotness scale. I inquired if the scale was open-ended or what was the top number and was told it stopped at 10. So I order the 3 Kings dish (a Thai version of the mixed grill with rice and veg) at a "Kentucky hot" number 7 and immediately call for the Sriracha! Later I asked our server-a Thai native-how hot she would have order it: "Oh, at least 125!" So much for the scale. And here's a little quirk: want a Spring roll order? Then get the Summer rolls, cause the Spring rolls are the fried ones. No, couldn't resist asking about Fall and Winter rolls. Our savvy server replied I should take the Summer rolls outside for awhile and then they'd be Fall or Winter... Sweet Basil is definitely a place worth checking out the next time you're in Northern Kentucky.

Cute little place. We were seated quickly and the sweetest young lady waited on us. I ordered the Crazy Horse because it was a crazy kind of day. You've had them. You know what I mean. It tasted really good too. While waiting for our food I slipped off to the ladies room (this tells you a lot about a place). The light came on automatically (I was hoping it wouldn't go off if there was little movement, so I swung my legs vigorously, just kidding) as I walked in. It was nice and it was clean. The prices were a little more reasonable than the last two sushi restaurants I frequented (is that a word? I'm going with it). I went at 11:40 am for lunch. By noon it was packed. So go before noon. Overall, we had a good experience.

I don't often venture across the Ohio River for a meal, and when I do, I'm looking for an adventure. Sweet Basil was just that. I visited this place with a group I orchestrate and we had some truly wonderful food. The menu is a bit confusing. This "Thai" establishment has Korean, Japanese and Chinese dishes scattered throughout the menu. I started with some edamame and for my entree went for the OOB Woon Sen which is also listed as "Ocean's Clay Pot," a seafood meal made in... you guessed it, a clay pot! It was fantastic! A number of my group mates snagged curries which looked great as well! I was hoping to get their special mango dessert but they'd run out a couple days prior. A bit disappointing. While the food was fantastic, and the service was ok... I'm giving this confusing establishment a 3/5 for a perplexing menu combination and periodically inattentive servers. Nonetheless, I think my experience may have been a one-off and do recommend checking them out.

Please see our check in details. Both of us ordered grilled beef. It came out smelling and tasting like fish. Was served on lettuce and vegetables with fish broth. Spoke with server. Nothing could be done. No offer for remake. No offer of another dish. No offer of refund. Simply astonished we paid and left, with our foul fish tasting and fish smelling beef and vegetables on the table: BOTH entrees. Will add updates when we have information to share.

So I decided to give an old standby another try. The wait staff was different so that had improved. But when they did put down my chicken pad thai, it was dark in color and that was worrisome. The only ingredient belonging to pad thai that is deep brown is tamarind. That was not the dominant flavor (nor should it be). Not sure what they are using these days but their pad thai is not going to draw me back.

Really great quality Thai place - for the food. We came in about 30 minutes before close and were reluctantly seated. It took a while for us to get our food even though we were the only patrons. All the dishes were tasty. However, one dish stood out - the Ginger fish - fried snapper fillet stir fried with fresh ginger sauce and vegetables. Definitely order this even if you don't like fish. KPI (Key Performance Indicator) ratings (1-5, 5 - best): Quality: 4 Delivery/Service: 2 Cost: 3

Had good shrimp Pad Thai here - the waitress asked how spicy I wanted it from a scale of 1-10, I played it safe and went for 5, since every place thinks of "spicy" a little differently. Could have definitely gone to at least a 7 if not 8, but of course it's easier to go hotter than try to take it away! It's tucked into a shopping center that faces away from the interstate exit, so be aware that you'll turn in toward the backside of the shopping center and drive around.

We've dined here 3 or 4 times now, and they are pretty much our go-to restaurant when in the area. Service has always been friendly, prompt and attentive. The food is very good and while nothing has knocked my socks off, everything we have tried has been quite tasty with good portion sizes and fair prices. This past visit we dined and had some leftovers. The waitress took our leftovers and boxed them which is always nice, but she also included a small container of white rice (we had finished all we were brought, and declined additional when asked if we needed more) which we didn't discover until the next day when we went to reheat things. I've been places that charge extra for rice (as well as places that charge $.03 for each packet of soy sauce) so this was a great extra touch that goes far in my book. Overall a great mom and pop place that deserves your patronage.

It's my first time here. I was really surprised by the Pad Thai and the Pineapple Fried Rice. The taste was really "Thai"! But the size of the food is not big enough:"( overall, The restaurant has a good environment as well! I will be back for delicious food!

My husband and I ended up here on Friday night after looking for somewhere new for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised on how great Sweet Basil is! It's tucked away in the Buttermilk Crossing Shopping Center, with Outback Steakhouse, KJ's, It's Just Crepes, etc. We ordered the Sweet Basil Bites for an appetizer and it was fabulous! It comes with a Spring Roll, 2 Crab Puffs and 3 Dumplings. We both ordered Pad Thai for dinner, mine with chicken and his with beef. It was absolutely amazing! This was also my 2nd Pad Thai I've had this week, and I thought this was so much better that the one I had at Banana Leaf in Mason. For a Friday night at 6:30, Sweet Basil only had 4 tables of people, but I guess for a holiday weekend, that's normal..? We loved Sweet Basil and we will be going back. I think our bill was around $40 for 2 Pad Thai, an appetizer, and two drinks so it's more affordable than you would think!

Great Thai food... in Kentucky...? Yep, 'tis true. If I had reviewed Sweet Basil when I first visited it, I'd probably have given it 5 stars because, believe it or not, this was my first ever foray into Thai cuisine. Yes, I lived within 40 miles of Manhattan for 18 years, lived in downtown Boston for 5 years... and it took moving to Northern Kentucky for me to give Thai a chance! I ordered pad thai for the first time in my life and fell in love. What's not to adore about peanuts, spiciness, noodles, and cilantro? My lord, this was great! You can choose how hot you want your dish, and I chose level 8 of 10. PerFECtion! I've had their sushi, too, which is just okay - the Thai is where it's at! Soonafter the first (and second) tasting of Thai at Sweet Basil, I moved to the San Francisco Bay area for 9 months and had the same cuisine and honestly enjoyed the authenticity of what CA restaurants have to offer. But, still, since returning to the NKY/Cincinnati area, Thai Basil is still some of the best Thai you can find here!

The volcano roll will keep me coming back. It's not the usual thing my husband and I order, but he decided to change it up. This is a California roll with a warm seafood topping that is yummy! Better than it sounds! LOL. The rest of the sushi we ordered was very good too, just less unique. The host can be a bit testy and overall service is mediocre at best. Just come here already in a good mood and you'll be fine.

Sweet Basil is one of the best sushi surprises I've had. I first started going here for the Thai food but quickly realized that sushi was best choice at this place. Please realize that it's not the best sushi you will find. But these are quality rolls for an affordable price. The location is a bit out of the way so there is rarely a wait for a table. The ingredients have always been fresh and the waitstaff are quick and helpful! I've helped a few friends get into sushi by visiting this restaurant. The rolls are affordable enough to order a bit more than you might normally. Whenever I'm down in Crescent Springs and looking for a bite to eat I make a point to stop by Sweet Basil and have a roll!

It's probably a good thing that I didn't review this place the first time I went or it would have gotten 1 star. The place is good, clean and the service was great. The food is pretty good, lots of options to choose from for those that are die hard Thai food fans to those that only eat Pad Thai. I had their Summer Roll as an appetizer (wonderful) and their Pad Kee Mao (tasty). I will definitely come back and try their Panang Curry (one of my favorite Thai dishes). Also, if you've never tried it, order a Thai Iced Tea. It's different and very tasty.

For a strip mall Japanese restaurant this place isn't too bad, but it isn't too great either. I found the sashimi dry and tasteless. The spicy tuna was average, with some interesting spices sprinkled on top. The service is really what needs an improvement - the waiter seemed as though he couldn't be bothered seating or waiting on my party. I might come here again, if I couldn't think of anything else in the area.

Food was great. Chicken satay for an app, Ginger fish and grilled scallops for dinner. I would definitely recommend.

Caution: This review is not for the faint of stomach. Ok. Here's the deal. Sweet Basil is usually ok. I've never been blown away by the food. The dining room is clean and the tables well set. The service is attentive, friendly and quick to make suggestions if you need help wading through the large menu. But. And this is a BIG but, there was 6 hours of vomiting following my meal. I got so very very sick after eating there the last time I'm not only not going back there, but I've sworn off eating meat for awhile. I'm not saying that you will get sick if you eat there, but the pork I ate was either not handled properly or undercooked. Either way, I was very ill and I can't give this place more than one star because of it.

I have been to Sweet Basil Thai for dinner a couple times, and have also ordered takeout for dinner once. I think the experience is much better when you dine in versus doing takeout. I felt like the portions were smaller for takeout than what you receive at dinner. But even so, when you dine in, the portions are not huge - they are just right. My husband typically gets a rice dish and I usually have chicken broccoli or the vegetable delight with chicken. This last time I had the latter, and my husband had the basil Thai fried rice. Both were so flavorful and delicious! The vegetable delight has a great variety of veggies in it - they don't rely on broccoli for "stock" or anything, and there was a great balance of carrots, broccoli, onion, baby corn, mushrooms, water chestnuts and bamboo. My husband's basil friend rice was amazing - you could really taste the basil and it was seasoned just right. This Thai restaurant measures its spiciness on a scale of 1-10, where one is basically a zero. So if you can handle a little bit of spice, start with a 2 and work your way up. Service is always great, we have never had to wait long for a table and I think the food is reasonably priced for the ingredients, flavor and portion you receive.... with the only exception being takeout where it's just a little bit of a smaller portion.

After a long drive, we showed up at 8:30 pm. The waitress told us that they won't serve us because they close at 9. Super rude !

This place is what made me love Thai food and realize Chinese is pretty much the drive thru version of asia food. Can't say enough about the place, it is a little pricey and the portions are on the small side but the food is delicious. Service has always been great. You won't be disappointed.

Sweet Basil is delicious! I have gotten carryout there quite a few times. I can't speak to the actual dining experience since I take it to go but the food is amazing. I get the Three Kings every time and its great. They give you a lot of food. My family has also had the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) and Massaman Curry. Both are wonderful. The Spring Rolls are great too and the sauce they come with is really tasty. It also should be noted that my order has never been wrong. It's always perfect and on time. It is safe to say that if we get Thai food we are going to Sweet Basil. This place is a jem. Try it out and you won't be disappointed.

Decided to break from my usual Sweet Basil routine and go to Sweet Basil for the Sushi. I ordered the Lady's Fingers combination and an extra spicy tuna roll. Since I had ordered a combination, the meal started with miso soup. This is the first time I've had Sweet Basil's miso soup, and although it wasn't outstanding, it was a good. The spicy tuna roll was good and the presentation was actually somewhat unique for such a common roll, The rainbow roll that came with the lady's fingers was also very good. The Nigiri sushi was acceptable, but nothing special. The place wasn't busy, and wait staff seemed bored. If it wasn't for that, it'd be a 4 star review. I know they can do better, I've been there when they have!

Sweet Basil, love the name for a Thai restaurant. I have eaten here several times. The service is always good, especially I order water first and there always filling it up. I tend to order the same entrees. For my appetizers I like to grilled screed chicken, which I really tender, like there side dipping sauce. Then onto the Tom Gia soup(coconut chicken soup) my favorite all time soup. For main entrees they beef panang. 1-5 I like a 3, with a little spice. Then the Pad Thai chicken. There presentation is really appealing. There portion is decent. There service is really good. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Stopped by for carry out last night, so I can't vouch for the full experience yet. However, if that was representative, I'm definitely going back. Just got pad thai & gyoza, so nothing adventurous, but it was fresh, tasty, and very reasonably priced. Plus, my carry out order came out crazyfast. An excellent first impression!

I have eaten at Sweet Basil for dinner, and liked it, but thought I'd try it for lunch for a change--I'm relatively tired of the offerings here in Covington. I checked out the lunch menu online before hand, so that I could maximize my lunch hour and not be too rushed. My server seemed to be new, asking questions about the menu to another server when she was unsure, and periods of absences where you just thought, "where did she go?" which is the only reason I gave the 4 stars. But, the food, a spring roll and Chicken Thai Pepper Garlic Sauce was wonderful. It came with soup, but I wasn't aware of that, and if it was the vegetable soup, then the new Thai place in Florence on Mall Road has it all over this soup. Rather tasteless chicken based broth with lots of celery, but not much else. A bit of cabbage here and there. Overall, rather bland. My lunch was very reasonable, perfect proportions and really good. I'll be back, but hope that by then, my server will have learned the ropes a bit more. I had to get the attention of the sushi chef to let him know I wasn't walking out without paying the check, that the money was in the folder and I needed to "go"....

Great dinner with friends. The sushi was great, the pad Thai awesome, everyone left happy. The service was spot on, we were seated right away, orders, water, etc all was good. The spice levels seemed good to me, 7 was just right. But my wife had a 5, I talked her down from a 6, and she said her lips were on fire. Now in fairness, I tasted and it was fine. But, watch out and stay south of 5 if spice isn't your thing. I can't wait to go back.

My four stars reflect the phad thai. It was scrumptious. I had a couple rolls, but didn't find a wow factor there. My server seemed rushed, overworked, and thus did not seem to be enjoying his job. The ambience was so great I forgot I was in a strip mall. I was there for a very late lunch and was told the kitchen closed at 3. Therefore I had my entree before the rolls. Not bothersome to me, but it might be to some. Overall, it was a good experience.

This is my family's go-to place if we want something a little upscale but still affordable and easy. It's conveniently located and has easy parking. It's a tiny little place, and we usually make reservations to help avoid a wait as they can get pretty busy, especially on the weekends. The atmosphere is cozy and nice, but at times it can feel a little crowded. But like I said, it's a step above a conventional restaurant but is still someplace that you can get a good meal for 2 for under $50. Great for date night or to celebrate something special. I'm not a sushi person, so I can't comment on that, but they have a scallop dish that is to die for! Everything I've ever gotten has been delicious, and I like that their "spiciness scale" is actually accurate. I mean, if you order a 5 expect a bit of a kick and a 0 will leave you with no heat. They also have fabulous appetizers and there has never been a time when we didn't order their crab rangoon. So good! So, if you are looking for some great Thai food, or just want to spice up your Friday night, I would definitely recommend a trip to Sweet Basil!

I've been to several Thai places in the area and this one is my favorite so far. The dining room is nice, the staff are normally friendly and attentive and their food tastes delicious! My husband loves their Pad Thai and I think their Thai Hot Basil Fried Rice with chicken is to die for! Oh, don't miss out on their spring rolls or gyoza. Yummers!

By far the best Thai restaurant in NKY, especially for the value. All except the vegetable soup is excellent, but hey it's included in the $5.95 lunch so it's hard to complain too much. This would be an easy 5 star recommendation if it weren't for the servers who seem to be frequently pissed off or severely frazzled.

Alright I'm kind of torn on this one. They're not terrible and maybe this is the best there is out here? But they're sure not perfect. I tried the eggplant stir fry and the sushi sampler with five pieces of nigiri. I'll start with the sushi. I understand that this place has both thai food and sushi. I do not however understand how you could possibly contemplate using the same rice for both types of food. This is NOT sushi rice people!! That would require rice wine vinegar. This was plain old white rice with fish slapped on top. The fish wasn't bad or anything. It didn't make me sick. It didn't smell off. It just wasn't super flavorful. So all in all, for sushi, I'd have to say 2 stars absolute max. You just should never serve raw fish on rice like that. Ugh...almost leaning towards one star... Now for the thai part. This was actually pretty good. I ordered spicy level 15 because I was nervous that it wouldn't be spicy enough. It was. Not like, killer, start sweating, inedible heat or anything but it definitely was spicy. One thing I should mention here - the eggplant really doesn't need to be breaded and deep fried. That sort of takes away the fun of the eggplant in my opinion. It's usually my favorite dish so I was happy to see it on there, but it definitely didn't taste like I'm used to it tasting. Just because of the breading - everything else was pretty decent. Overall, I'd say that was four stars but really, that's sticking to the 'I'm in Kentucky' scale of things. So grand total (math time folks) I'd say three stars. I didn't dine in so I can't comment on service.

The food is really good here. Good for small parties, but bad for large groups. When I went with my wife we had a great experience. However, when I went recently with a large group (12 people) we had a pretty terrible experience. The food was still good but it took our waitress about 30 minutes to even take our order and then it took another hour until we all got our food. We arrived at 7:00 and didn't get our food until 8:30. I believe they also messed up the spice level of some of the orders. Several people from our party commented that the food was way too spicy. They asked for level 2 out of 10 and the food seemed much too spicy for a level 2. My brother ordered level 7 and it didn't taste much more spicy than the level 2 that my mom ordered. Still, the food was very good. I had sushi and enjoyed it thoroughly.

This is the best restaurant for Thai cuisine and sushi in the Cincinnati area! Far better than Teak and Lemongrass, Sweet Basil offers a friendly atmosphere with high-quality, freshly-made Thai dishes that are absolutely delicious. Pad See Ew, Pad Kee Mao, Pepper Garlic, and Duck Curry are among my favorites. The sushi bar is excellent, and extremely fresh. The owner is the sushi chef, and will offer up great conversation while you sit at the sushi bar. There are some very tasty rolls on the menu. My favorites include New York (tuna, spicy mayo, avocado, and tempura flakes), Mona Lisa (smoked salmon, avocado, crab, spicy sauce, kiwi, and sweet sauce), and the Crazy Horse (smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado, all tempura-fried and served warm). This restaurant is highly recommended! My husband and I go at least once a week - look for us at the sushi bar!

Been here a couple times. The pineapple fried rice wasn't very tasty. And the Pad Thai was suppose to come with green onion and bean spouts but I didn't see any in the dish. The noodes were basically angel hair and I was expecting medium-width ones.
