I went back to Backstage Cafe and things were MUCH better. I had a spicy chicken wrap and onion chips. The chicken wrap had a hand made spicy garlic sauce on it that was amazeballs! The onion chips were hand battered and crispy. Maria has some mad skills in the kitchen. I highly recommend getting there when she's cooking. I think she handles the kitchen during the daytime Tue-Fri.

Awesome venue and bar. Live music. Drinks. Eats. Make friends with the locals. Food is above average for a bar and draft selection is pretty legit. Listen to punk rock while you drink and have a good time! They also do an open night mic for new and aspiring musicians.

I had a burger and fries and was actually quite impressed with both. Great value for the money and better quality than some chains and higher end places that rely on atmosphere and reputation to bring people in. The beer selection was satisfactory for a dive bar, with a few craft beers on tap, one being local. Service was fast and friendly. I was going there to see a friend of a friend's band play, and read the reviews on Yelp before going. When I saw a review mention that smoking was permitted, I was really hoping that was outdated information, as the review was old. Alas, it is still a smoking bar. So I wouldn't consider going here to grab a bite or a beer just on a whim as I otherwise would if it were smoke free. Going smoke free would add two stars to my rating.

This place serves up pretty standard bar food. My burger was good, though there was no point in asking me how I'd like it done. I asked for medium rare, but it was done. Still, it was quite tasty. The chili, and we were warned, is good and it is spicy! My partner enjoyed it. It was much too hot for me, but I don't like spicy food, so no problem there. The location is great. It's right next door to the Madison Theater, so Backstage Cafe would be the perfect place to stop before a show... except for one thing - smoking. Backstage Cafe is a bar in Kentucky and smoking is a-okay. What this means is people that don't smoke pretty much don't come here and everyone that come here does. It was unbearable, but we were stuck. We hadn't eaten and the show would be starting soon. Service was slow, which just made dealing with the smoke more torturous. It's great that smokers have a place they can go to enjoy a drink, some nice food, company and a pack or two of smokes, but this place is not likely to be an enjoyable experience for someone that doesn't smoke. We won't be back.

For what it is, a dive bar, it's pretty good. Decent bar food, good basic selection of beers and very friendly staff. They put up no fuss about splitting a check! Nice place to get something to eat before a show at the Madison Theatre!

This is one of my favorite places to eat and drink. There in nothing bad on the menu, especially the buffalo chicken wrap. I could even make a meal out of their appitizers. The drink prices are very affordable, so you can sit and enjoy your evening all night. The staff is friendly and always go the extra step to make your experience a good one. And on Wed the free eukure tourements are the best. Super jukebox. If you are going to a show next store, this place should be your first stop.
