Great food and service! Will definitely be back! Chicken fried steak was just like grandma's. Cinnamon rolls were a nice touch to the end.

Not good...I was so disappointed... Service was fair at best, .mashed potatoes are instant

The Town and Country Restaurant has been around since the late 1950s, and the interior has that retro, swanky feel to it. It's like something out of the Goodfellas movie. The food is consistently good, and it is good diner fair. The dinner item that I usually always order is the 10oz prime rib, served nightly, and only $11.99. My wife enjoys the chicken fried steak, and my brother enjoys the meatloaf. Each meal comes with dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. The clientele leans toward the older side, but many families enjoy dining there as well, and it is always busy. I guess any place that has been in business that many years must be doing something right.

Honestly I would not go back. It's plain food and probably all out of a can. Or at least it taste that way. Skip it.

Horrible experience! Who ever the old man at the front register is, he really needs to work someplace that doesn't involve costomer service! He was rude, and didn't act like he wanted to be there. We told him we had a party of 10, and that one is in a wheelchair, and we need a high chair for the baby. This guy acted disgusted that we had 10 people. So he snapped at us and said that he can't sit 10 people and that it will be a long time before he can seat us. We asked approximately how long, and he snapped again, over an hour! (We were the only people that were in the waiting area). I use to love Town & Country! I put extra emphisis on "USE to". I don't think I will ever go there again as long as that character is there. And if he is the owner, then I suggest that he find somebody else to run the front and not interact with the public! I gave 2 stars! The food has always been good, but customer service goes a long way! IMO

Great old-time diner. If you're looking for fancy-schmancy...don't go here. If your coffee order includes the words skim or soy or latte or ends in -inno...don't go here. If you're looking for fancy or upscale decor or wi-fi...don't go here. On the other hand, if you're looking for good old- fashioned comfort food without pretense...definitely DO go here. This was my first time here. I arrived at 10am, sat at the bar, and ordered breakfast. Service was quick, pleasant, and down-to-earth. I had 2 eggs with chicken fried chicken, hash browns, and a biscuit with gravy. I always order my eggs fried, over-hard...because there is almost nothing that grosses me out more than egg yolk running on my plate. Lots of places end up cooking them until they bounce, which is still better to me than runny. But this place cooked them just right...no liquid, but not rubbery either. The chicken was very good, fresh, and fried in a very flavorful batter. The biscuit was very good. It's a big raised biscuit...homemade. The place was very busy at 10am on a weekday, but it's a lot bigger than it looks. From the conversation taking place around me, it was clear there are a lot of regulars. I would definitely recommend it and will stop in again when I'm in town.

We ate here at the Town & Country Restaurant 2 mornings for breakfast. Glad someone recommended this to us as it is a hidden gem. Food was clean, fresh and reasonably priced. Get there early, it's a busy spot! Staff was working hard and still friendly.
(4)CJ H.
Very good food and service. We had 2 big meals, a beer and ice tea and the bill was unbelievably cheap. The quality of the food was great also, good cuts of chicken. Meatloaf was tender and flavorful. I will be back here for sure while I'm in the area.

From 2014: Town & Country seems like a cliche. Chicken decor all over; booths from 1960s or 1970s; hearty "Amurican" menu, but do not sell it short! The portions are extremely generous. What makes that even better is that it is food you want to eat. Yes, the beans probably came out of a can, but you just don't care. My favorites are the fried chicken (of course) and gravy on turkey sandwich (memories of school lunch, only better). From 2015: A year ago, I gave Town and Country 4 stars, but then I returned this year and ordered apple pie and coffee. My carafe was half empty and no one asked me if I wanted more after it ran out from two cups. I ordered apple pie and it was freezing. It had been taken out of a cold fridge and not warmed up. Cold pie and no coffee. Not a good sign in a diner'esque restaurant. My companion fared much better than I did.

This would be a great place if the food was good. My medium rare steak was very tough and burnt on the outside. The restaurant smells great because they use mesquite wood to grill the meat but the meat is very low quality and tough. The salad was just iceberg lettuce with your choose of dressing. For two people, our bill came to $25, so it is very inexpensive but not worth the effort unless you're just looking for something to fill you up.
(2)Dave E.
Great little place to get a bite. Enjoyed the breakfast for the first time. Loved the fact they still have a diner counter as well as nice seating. Brings back memories of eating at the diner counter when I was young. Great staff, very friendly. Definitely a worth wild stop
(4)Tim J.
Great breakfast experience. Was with family and was seated right away food was out quickly and everything was cooked to perfection. I love this place and will eat here any time I'm on the west side and am hungry.
(4)Dj D.
Not a good experience. They are open until 9pm and stop service at 8:55. They should really stop service at 8:30 so they can be out by 9pm which was apparent what they wanted to do. The waitress wanted to know what we wanted to order. Gave her our order which was 2 ribeyes and a filet dinner. Our salads were brought out and this 50 year old guy in a red shirt was running around and snatching plates as soon as they were empty. Our Steaks were out in 10 minutes. At this point the guy in the red shirt was standing by the front door staring at us and shaking his head. We called the waitress to the table and told her we were feeling unwelcomed, rushed and what the 50 guy was doing. She told us not to worry he was only a bus boy. My friend is a personal director and expressed that the bus person represents the business and its not good business practice. She said that she would have him talked to and asked how we wanted our check handled. I can tell you that from 8:55 to 9:31 we had our order taken, served a salad,a steak dinner, paid at the counter and was walking out the door. Other friends had told me how great this place was and the food was good. This was my first and last time to come here. We were made to feel unwelcome and rushed out the door. They should have just told us the kitchen was closed and we would have found someplace else to eat.

Continuing on my quest to give Yelp users my expert opinion on food joints ( I have been eating for the past 46 years)I have visited, today Town & Country was in my sights for breakfast. I ordered up the ham, peppers, onions and cheese skillet topped with two fried eggs over easy. From the first bite I could taste the home cooking and freshness of the veggies. The potatoes where cooked just right and it put a smile on my face. The skillet came with biscuit & gravy and they perfectly complimented the meal. Judging from all the locals here this is the breakfast joint to come to if your in Wichita! Happy Eating!
(4)Ronnie m.
Walk in at 10:55 a.m. and was told breakfast was over at 11:00 a.m. the waitress would not take our order till 11:01 and said it was to late for breakfast. we walked out.

We're so preoccupied with eating food that's cooked "like Mom used to make," but if you grew up anywhere from the 50's to today, chances are what Mom used to make came from a can, a freezer, or out of a microwave. So in that respect, the green beans I ate at Town & Country were indeed like Mom used to make - soft, flavorless, and in no way fresh. I ordered the chicken fried steak because it was the first thing listed on the menu and they looked like they were proud of it. Poorly fried, the crust didn't provide much texture, and that's even before the thick sludge of country gravy was plopped on top of it. The home fries were unique - slices of potatoes cooked in the style of hashbrowns. Also in the style of many hashbrowns, the interior was undercooked, and the entirety was underseasoned. If there is one saving grace to Town and Country, it's the steaks. I can only speak to mine - which was fork tender - but it's easy to see how so many other reviewers speak well of that cast iron wood-fired grill you can see them working from the outside of the building. I had a beef vegetable soup to start my meal, and the fresh vegetables cobbled together there gave me hopes of a homestyle meal that the entree couldn't provide. Another of the generic family restaurants along Kellogg on the west side, I can certainly recommend Town and Country over Solo's, but that's not exactly a glowing endorsement.
(2)Alexis R.
Hard to beat this place for down-home cooking. Their lunch specials are ridiculous - salad, entree with sides and cinnamon rolls all for under $7. Very tasty chicken friend steaks and chicken fingers mean this place isn't for vegetarians or those on a diet. Their cottage fries are really crispy and amazing dipped in cream gravy. Their veggie dishes are typical of home-style places with sweet carrots and limp green beans with bacon. I think I love this place so much because it harkens back to my childhood when I'd come here with my grandma and parents, and I don't think the prices or interior have changes since then (though they've done a great job with upkeep and everything looks well maintained). Amazing pie selection too -all homemade with about 12 different offerings every day.
(4)Kate B.
T&C is a classic.. Most folks are in there 60s, 70s, or 80s but there is a reason - it is very good home cooking. The chicken strip dinners are so good and taste fresh and juicy. I also like the Town & Country salad that is simple but with chicken strips cut up on top. You cannot beat the prime rib! I challenge anyone to name a better place to have a juicy prime rib for a very reasonable price. We always order extra au jus. The ranch dressing is made with buttermilk and it's so good... The restaurant is not flashy and it never will be. But if you want to have great fried catfish, prime rib, or chicken strips for a good price - try it. Meals are served with dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls (no frosting). If Glenda is working, recommend asking for her secton. She is great and has worked there for years.
(4)Torin A.
Time capsule. This is a GREAT old greasy spoon, if thats what you're looking for. Really good gravy that you can have put on most anything you order. I LOVE the chicken strips. I usually get a steak to go along with the chicken strips. Staff is always fun.
(5)David C.
I first ate here when I was 6 years old on Sunday afternoons with my grandparents. Each time I'm in Wichita I eat at this great restaurant. Prices are great. Prime rib dinner for under $12. Try the onion rings they are fantastic.

Ive lived in Wichita 5 months now and have been pleasantly surprised at the numerous diners and the quality of food in town. So when I found Town and Country, I thought id be walking into another average environment with acceptable food. Instead I ws trasported back in time with the wonderful Faux wood grain table tops and black leather (nautty hide) booths. The waitresses are great and most seem to have been there since opening in 1958. I had the lunch chicked fried, mashed potatoes, salad and roll. It was very good for a blue plate special and Ill go back soon. I recommend you check it out soon.

Comfort food close to the airport. When I first walked in, I couldn't help but notice the patrons consisted largely of social security recipients. This is usually a sign that the food will be bland and mushy. The service is good and the food is plentiful. I ordered the lunch size prime rib with baked potato and corn. Everyone also gets cinnamon rolls with every meal too. The food was pretty good, not great. Since my expectations were quite low, I was suprised to have a pretty good meal. The decor of the place reminded me of some of the places I've been to in Northern Wisconsin. Very outdated and pretty grubby.
(3)Jim K.
Wow, this place was excellent! Good portions of food, warm rolls and a cinnamon roll to boot. Fried chicken was some of the best I have had anywhere.
(5)Hillary C.
I love these places! Great home cooking. A total local hangout for the seniors, which I love. Wonderful breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Super prices! A flash back to yesteryear!!!
(5)Brad D.
Outdated decor Dirty Comfort Food My uncle use to take me there when I was younger. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. I don't enjoy comfort food thats fried and dipped and flavord with fat. Sorry T & C, although some people enjoy your artery clogging dishes, I think I will pass and recommend others to do the same. NEXT

Fed my family of 4 on a Saturday night and was back on the road in 1 hour. Staff was great and even though I spilled my drink they took great care of us. Lady brought me a cup with a lid and a bib and said she would be watching me. She was great! Steaks were tender and had great flavor. The cinnamon rolls in the bottom of the bread basket was a cool surprise. Since every thing was so good we didn't have room for the pies that were up at the front counter. They looked gooood!
(5)Ericka L.
I ordered a very delicious vegetable omelet that was filled with a creamy cheese sauce (similar to queso in consistency) and was as big as my head! My sides were home fries and biscuits and gravy. I liked both side dishes but the gravy on my biscuits was a little bland. I also ordered chocolate milk and orange juice. My order total was only $10! Now I am a full and happy camper with change to spare in my wallet. Overall, I enjoyed eating here and would like to eat here again on my next visit to Wichita.

This place reminds me of a small town cafe. The food was good and reasonably priced.

This is one of the places I had been meaning to try, but never got around to eat until now. When I walked in I was reminded of some old style truck stops on the many roadtrips that my family had taken. I walked though the coffee shop and into the dining room. My best description would be that the place looked like a farmers idea of high class (not a bad thing). The staff was extremely nice and attentive. This is where I have some problems, the food. I got the lunch special chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn (clasic). Almost as soon as I ordered, the food was at my table, which normally is a good thing, but the quickness only told me that my food was under a heat lamp. It wasn't bad food, just not great food. And I really wanted to love this place based on the look of the place and the staff.
(3)Quinn H.
If you haven't eaten here, then you don't know what amazing fried chicken tastes like. The chicken strip dinner is my favorite and here's why: for under $10 you get chicken (duh), your choice of potato (get pan fries or I'll hit you in the mouth), vegetable (okra, or else!) and soup or salad. Don't get too carried away with the rolls or cracker baskets or you have no hope of finishing this delicious meal.
(5)Howard C.
mediocre food. I've had far better. The prices are reasonable.
(2)Josh W.
I've never had one bad meal here. The service isn't the best and the owners come off rude a lot of times. The food makes up for it though. Great chicken fried steak and homestyle fried chicken. Surprisingly the steak and prime rib is pretty good too. I use to eat here all the time when I lived near it and I truly miss it. Great place for good old fashioned comfort food.

First off, I wish I could give this a 4 1/2 stars, and not have to choose between 4 and 5. For what T&C is (a classic diner/grill/steakhouse), it does it very well and quite affordably. And now that smoking has been banned from restaurants across Kansas (and I'm NOT anti-tobacco, it's just that previously T&C tended to get really smoky during busy hours), it's a great place to take the family. As for today, it was the wife and I out for lunch together. We fortunately arrived just ahead of the lunch rush, and were seated immediately. Drinks were ordered, food was ordered, and I had just enough time to finish my dinner salad before the food arrived (LOVE the blue cheese dressing, with huge chunks of cheese!). The wife ordered a 1/2 lb grilled hamburger with jalapenos and cheese with a side of fries. The burger was to the "done" side, but still retaining plenty of juice and beefy goodness. Because she's trying to slim down, she only was able to finish about a third of the burger. The fries are standard "steak fries" and were hot and crisp. My weakness has always been prime rib, and the lunch cut was a bargain at only $7.99, which included a choice of potato and two sides - a baked potato, the aforementioned salad, and some standard green beans with some added bacon and onion. Accompanying all dinners are fresh-baked dinner rolls and the T&C famous cinnamon rolls, which are just sweet enough to finish a dinner off without overloading yourself. I split mine with the wife. I wish I wasn't trying to watch my diet, because the selection of pies ordered at the table across from ours looked really good. They seem to have quite a selection of pies, but I never save room for them after the cinnamon roll. Oh, and have to mention the waitresses - they all seem to be someone's Mom or Grandma, and they'll treat you like they've been serving you for years. In all the years I've eaten here (and it's been a year or two since I last visited), I've only had one "service event" that was less than satisfactory (our waitress went off shift, and her replacement never bothered to check on us.) But overall, the food, the service, the atmosphere is consistent, and there's a reason this place has had a line out the door since 1957.
(4)William L.
Love eating here, its one of the old local places you need to try. They are always busy and don't take reservations and you will normally have a short wait. I love their 12oz KC strip steaks which are cooked out in the open for you to watch. My wife order a 8 oz steak special and it was not so good, tough, but she always has to have it well done too which could have been part of it. My steak is always cooked the way I request and tender. I also love the assortment of bread and cinnamon rolls they bring. My only complaint of the place is the host or sitter. He is not the warm friendly type. When he leads you to your table you better not be slow, he will loose you. He then puts the menu on the table and walks away and hardly ever says a word or smiles. He must be the owner for he has been there ever time we have ever been over the last 12 years. LOL that long and I never seen him smile. The waitress are always great tho... I do love this place for my steak will keep going back for them...
(4)John M.
Last time I ate here was in 1990. Not as good as I remembered. The rolls are awesome. The prime rib was disappointing flavor-wise, albeit easier than roasting my own. This restaurant has a dismal decor. Service was friendly enough, and not glacially slow. Would go back if the people I were with wanted to come, but wouldn't suggest it on my own.
(3)Laurie B.
We had dinner there May 26. One problem with this restaurant was we didn't have room for all the food. The portions are very large, and we couldn't take leftovers with us because we were traveling. Another thing we noticed was the lack of salt in anything. For example, the sauce on my husband's ribs was good, but the meat underneath the sauce with tasteless and a little dry. I swear I am not a heavy salt user, but even I noticed it was missing.
(3)Barbara E.
I have been to Town and County many times in the past and knew it was a good place to eat. Well, I went there Mother's Day for dinner and it is better than ever. If you want good home cooked food or a great steak, then this is the place to go. The service is good and the prices are good. They get busy so go early and you may still have to wait for a table but it is worth it. Once you are seated it doesn't take long to get your food.
