This IS one of the few AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurants in Wichita. I've never had a bad dish or item there and have been eating there for over 5 years. Their homemade tortillas are always hot and fresh. The rotisserie chicken is the best in town and they use it in their chicken items. Their hot salsa (not the red medium salsa) is also the best homemade salsa with fresh roasted chiles. Those of you who are giving this restaurant very low ratings and bad reviews obviously do not know what authentic Mexican food tastes like. You are entitled to your opinions, but maybe you should go back to Taco Bell or On The Border and get your fake, Tex-Mex food.

Nastiest food I have ever ate I had a friend who use to work there told me whatever they didn't sell they reheat it for the next day and the next day till its gone owners are not friendly very rude and it's mostly family that works there I'm surprised it's still open just thinking about it makes my stomach turn

Have to agree with a previous Reviewer -- the staff was not receptive to 'Gringos'. We walked in and sat ourselves. The tables were in need of service. There was an open bowl of seasoning mix that we watched people dipping their hands into. The Tapatio Sauce bottles were messy and the waitress never bothered to refill our drinks. We chose to order rather than try their buffet, because a group of guys were taking tastes with their fingers. Won't be going back.

It's clear from its imperfections that this is authentic Mexican, and probably as good as it gets in Wichita, though it's buffet items reveal the restaurant is a far cry away from perfection. Mexican cuisine is not something that's often offered in buffet form, though Los Reyes gives their best effort at it, choosing submerged items like menudo, guisado, and borracho beans, and those items were as good as they can get, the guisado tender and succulent, and an layered tortilla dish that tasted just fine after getting a lasagna treatment under the heat lamps and sneeze guards. Other things didn't fare so well, like the enchiladas, whose sauce looked too crusty to try, and the tamales, which were quite gummy. Still, the logistics of the buffet were outshadowed by the cooking prowess of the restaurant, featuring plenty of complex flavors and a nice handling of spice - not so much as to overwhelm, but enough to make its presence known. And of course the homemade tortillas are delightful enough to warrant taking a dozen or two home for a couple of bucks. Los Reyes' food is some of the best Mexican I've had in Wichita, but I think their choice to use a buffet hurts them a bit. Do yourself a favor and order off the menu, and make sure you get some fresh corn tortillas.

Hey, Gringos, this is one of the few places in the ICT that makes their own tortillas (to my knowledge, anyway. Please let me know the others!). This is the real deal. Stick with the very good chicken and things homemade like tamales--they're excellent. The rest of the menu is pretty weak. But I go here often just to feed the crave of a real tortilla with some cared-about home cookin' in it. You should too.

I often refer people to Rostizeria. This is a restaurant that uses fresh, homemade tortillas, has an authentic buffet, and is always full at lunchtime with workers from Mexico taking a lunch break. The roasted chicken quarter and fresh warm tortillas are my favorite. No spice, No cheese. All good and simple. Jukebox with Mexican tunes is fun too. My only complaint is that the owners don't really bother to know who you are if you frequent their establishment regularly and aren't Mexican. I expected more warmth. Occasionally the jukebox or TV are very loud. I have noticed a sign out front (in Spanish) for family suppers: a couple of roasted chickens, so many tortillas, etc. I haven't tried it yet, but it is sure to be good.

If this is the best Mexican food in Wichita, you should move. My husband and I both had awful times in the bathroom after eating at this place. The meat is cheap, and you can taste it. The ratio of lard to masa in the tamales was totally messed up. There is so much fat in this food. Tortillas aren't that difficult to make. Just stay home and make them yourself.

We heard an ad for the restaurant while driving around in Wichita, and upon hearing their buffet not only featured authentic dishes, but that their tortillas were handmade, as well, we had no choice but to check them out. The fact that menudo and mole were on their buffet impressed the hell out of me. You're usually hard-pressed to find those on the menu of most Mexican restaurants. Everything we tried was tasty and fresh, and my wife, son, and I all knocked out three plates of food apiece, in addition to dessert. Were we Wichita residents, we'd be there every Sunday afternoon. At $7.99, this buffet is a steal. Authentic Mexican is hard to come by, and for those sick of Tex-Mex fare that's drenched in cheese, this is your nirvana.

We had a restaurant.com $25 discount certificate and the three of us still spent $9 each for our meal. Without the certificate, we would have never even found this place. Loud, gaudy colors fit for mainstreet Mexico...we all agreed that we wouldn't even give the restaurant a second glance without the discount certificate. From the street this place has the marketing look of a used car lot....faded whiteboard with magic marker "specials" The food was wonderful. The restaurant is clean. The service staff is mediocre, so I had to save up my requests for refills of tea, additional paper napkins when good spicey food makes my nose run and more chips. The "salsa" with the chips when you first sit down is watery...plenty hot like I want it, but little substance. One of my friends requested a milder salsa and we got a bowl of tomato sauce with cilantro. Two of us went over to see the buffet and it didn't look as bad as some reviewers report. My friend even got some desert from the buffet and built a cake with vanilla pudding and pineapple sauce and raved about it. All three of us ordered various fajita entrees. Again, the food was great. Yes, great. We talked among ourselves and agreed that this was a great meal. With Connie's just a few blocks away, we asked ourselves if we would come back, and we agreed that Connie's is where we would continue to go.

Had the half chicken, It was delicious. Highly recommend it. Home made tortillas were also good. Ingredients tasted fresh and poultry was cooked to absolute perfection. Environment is typical of many Hispanic restaurants in the area but that shouldn't hold you back from trying their awesome menu items. Did not try the buffet so I can't say how that was, i highly recommend ordering from the menu!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
