We visit Wichita frequently and we always have to stop at Ninza. It's an unassuming little restaurant in a strip mall across from my old high school. Nothing fancy, but my favorite sushi restaurant in the US. The Ninza cakes are probably one of the best things I have ever tasted. Crab, Mozzerella....deep fried with a hint of jalapeno-yes please! The sushi rolls are huge. My husband and I can split an order of ninza cakes and the honeystone roll and be satisfied, however, we always walk out stuffed because we have to try something else. The snow coconut roll is absolutely amazing. It's doesn't feel heavy and it's not overly sweet. There's a spicy baked salmon roll that is really yummy as well-topped with a jalapeno slice and siracha. The best part is that is comes in a foil boat on fire, so the salmon cooks right in front of you. The service has always been friendly and prompt. A++++

Big fan of this place. Good service, nice atmosphere & great food. We tend to get a special roll & a few pieces of nigiri, never disappointed. It's a good spot for sushi on the west side!

Not all it's hyped up to be and a long drive to get there. We each got one large roll and one small, the small one was as good as we've eaten elsewhere but the large rolls were mediocre at best. Both had soggy seaweed making the pieces difficult to chew. We also got tempura, it was a nice selection of veggies and shrimp but the breading was too crispy compared to normal tempura, also the tempura sauce tasted like it was mostly soy sauce. Definitely won't be back.

So, having moved recently from Seattle, I have been searching for some excellent sushi without the evening out prices. So there is Sumo's, also excellent but very expensive for what you get, and there is wasabi which is very great portion sized but less expertly prepared in my opinion. Then there is Ninza which tasted so fantastic!!! Went there for lunch one afternoon, and it was so perfectly prepared and if u have ate badly cut sashimi then it can really throw you off for awhile. Like I was really impressed and after having ate at all the best Sushi places in Seattle I didn't expect that caliber of sashimi grade from Wichita. Way to go Wichita!

My friend choked on some lettuce here. True story. The trick to eating is smaller bites folks. I ate some of the miso and all the veggie sushi I could stomach. My compatriot enjoyed real sushi and salad that apparently almost killed her! For being in the middle of the country, the food was super fresh! One of the best places to go in Wichita methinks! Also, thank you to the person sitting next to us that gave my friend the Heimlich maneuver.

Best sushi in Wichita. Way better than other sushi restaurants in town. Excellent service, great flavors, and reasonable price.

A absolutly Wonderful place to dine. Fantastic knowledgable service is sure to put a smile on your face. Generously cut sashimi for starters. Great portions on their rolls with the right rice to ingredient mix. The desert here is top shelf. Just amazing. A great cold sake menu. All of this equals a awesome experiance. They also make custom rolls just ask.

So I wanted to like this place. Sure, you're in Wichita, but I expected a taaaaad more. I ordered the green salad for $2.50 which was refreshing. Yeah, it's just iceberg lettuce and a few leaves of mixed greens, but you get what you pay for. I always enjoy the creamy gingery dressings on these asian-inspired salads. My rainbow roll was filled with an artificial crab mix, which I didn't expect. I guess I didn't read closely, because my caterpillar roll was also filled with that mix. I'm just not a fan of artificial crab mix, especially in large quantities such as inside the roll. They also put a salad in the middle of the rainbow roll, which made the bottom of the roll soggy and overly salty. I like my sushi simple and clean, and I think they over thought the presentation. There was a teeny tiny amount of eel in the caterpillar roll that I couldn't taste it. I would come back again because the prices are too terrible, and the service was great - she was a doll. However, I'll try the sashimi.

The sushi was pretty good. I like Wasabi better. I thought it was kinda pricey and the sushi was not as good as other places in town. I don't think I would go back, even though it was not bad it was something I would write home about.

  • Meghan S.

The service is pleasant. The sushi is really good and fresh. It doesn't need soy sauce because the flavor of the sushi is enough. The appetizers were a little smaller than I expected, but they are delicious.

One word-- wow! Some of the best sushi in town. Great menu choices and friendly people. Prices are reasonable. Love their crunch rolls

Decent sushi in Kansas? It's true! Took my sushi loving son here after a hard loss in a basketball tournament we were in town for. Fresh fish, decent service. Very tasty. I gave it five stars based on Kansas sushi. It's no San Francisco, but hey, for the mid-west? Totally hit the spot. ;)

I mostly have their lobster rolls, and never fails. Hubby loves their sushi, the service is great.

Very good food with awesome prices. The Alaskan roll was by far my favorite because it was fresh and tasty! The octopus salad was delicious along with the Ishiban and tempura tuna rolls! The music was nice and low key so you could talk and not shout like some places! Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and great! We will definitely come back!

Within the past four or five years Wichita has been bestowed with enough legitimate sushi restaurants that to even joke about us being in the middle of the country nowadays is an outdated cliche. Airplanes can deliver fresh fish on regular occasions; It's not a big deal anymore. With the influx of nice sushi places come with me being bereft of new things to say: the quality of the fish is top-notch and the two dudes banging out the rolls behind the bar are California-bred and pretty experienced. One of said dudes used to work at Wasabi and was going to open the west side branch, but instead he wanted to experience the pleasures of being a business owner. Luckily a combination of good food, positive press, and taking advantage of the west side's lack of sushi restaurants have so far worked out in Ninza's favor. During my visit it seemed like the sushi chefs were also having to help out the servers quite a bit; I told my initial order to the server who sat me, then I later placed an additional order of nigiri from the chef who then told the server. It all worked out in the end. Probably just something else to chalk up to the city's limited pool of experienced servers. For a newer restaurant, Ninza has done quite well for themselves. The accolades are warranted.

Way back in a strip center and looks like a hole in the wall but don't let the looks fool you! This place is a little gem in West Wichita. Try the gyoza for an app and I highly recommend the "Sexy Roll"! Chefs are awesome and staff friendly.

A great spot for sushi, and reasonably priced too. I always get the Chirashi when ever I'm there. I'd highly recommend this place.

Do yourself a favor, and get yourself to Ninza right now. This is one of the best hidden gems in Wichita located in a non-descript strip mall. I had six in my party this time. We arrived for dinner at 7:15 and were promptly sat. It was a bit humid in the building, but I chalk that up to the funky 70 degree weather in November. Everyone agreed that the main The menu is quite extensive so we had the chance to order lots of different dishes. For starters, each couple shared a seaweed salad. While you don't get the large portion size like Kanai, the salad was cool, crunchy, and very flavorful. We also tried the goyza which were crispy and very tasty. The server allowed us to try a sample of the pickled squid, which we promptly ordered. I would say the squid was my favorite started of the night! I can't even list all the different rolls we ordered. The BF and I shared the california roll, spicy salmon roll, the angel roll, and the ichiban roll. Mind blowing. The angel roll was particularily interesting because of the thin cucumber that was used in place of the seaweed for the outside of the roll. I know the others at the table ordered the sexy roll, the honey crunch (or something like that), and a few of the baked rolls. I highly doubt you could find a bad roll to order! We also had dessert, though I didn't actually try either of them. They shared the tempura banana and the fried cheesecake. The presentation for everything with the meals was impeccable. I am going to be insanely jealous when the rest of Wichita discovers this place and it becomes crazy busy. I would rank this up above wasabi and maybe even Kanai. Don't miss out on this amazing restaurant. Make sure to ask for Daniel!

Absolutely fantastic sushi for middle America. I travel to wichita about once a month and usually eat at my favorite sushi place, Kanai, on the west side. I was here on a Monday which I am usually not and Kanai is not open on Mondays so a short yelp search brings up the well reviewed Ninza. I thought what the heck. I am very glad I went and checked it out. I had a rainbow roll and Alaskan roll which both had incredibly fresh Salmon on them. The atmosphere was quite, although very few people were there. The ONLY thing I still like more about Kanai is the miso soup. Ninza's miso soup wasn't as good as Kanai's, but it still was very delicious. They're both on the west side (which is a bummer, if Ninza had opened on the east side, my wichita trips would be complete) so location isn't a factor. Price is actually a little better than Kanai's so that's definitely a plus, although I do feel Kanai's rolls are a bit bigger (however Ninza's are displayed much better). All in all, Ninza is a welcome addition to the sushi collection in Wichita and I highly recommend you give it a shot!

Bad service, small portion, BIG price tag. I was just about done with my sushi dinner when they finally give me a sauce plate. Didn't give plays for us to enjoy our apps. Spent a lot but didn't get full. We had to find a second eatery to fill up!

Best sushi i have ever ate in my life! I travel a lot so I've had sushi from all over the country and i can honestly say i have never had an experience like i had today at Ninza Sushi Bar. We ordered many different items like several different rolls, crab cakes, seaweed salad, squid salad, fruit, soup and of course....Sake! Everything was outstanding! Best sushi dinner i have ever had hands down! They have only been open for 2 months so, not a lot of people know about this place but, soon every sushi lover within 100 miles will be coming here for sushi. Food is amazing, service was 5 star, prices were reasonable. We even got a chance to meet the owner and talk a bit with the staff and i can honestly say that this is a great group of people and this place has a bright future! The owner even said they can do a lot more than sushi if you want them to make you something else thats not on the menu it's not a problem. This is exactly the type of place i love to support. It's a brand new up and coming restaurant headed by a VERY talented chef/owner and he couldn't have been a nicer and more generous guy. My co-workers and I have already agreed that we are going back again for dinner this week...well worth the 30 min drive across town. You have got to try this place!!!

Came in here last weekend. The place is in a little strip mall but when you enter doesn't look like a hole in a wall at all. The owners/chef used to work in LA moved to Wichita to help out downtown wasabi and wasabiz on north rock. They pretty much renovated the whole menu. But drama ensued and they decided to open up their own place. good move. I ordered the tuna sashimi salad. It was a very large sized salad, not like any salad that is more appetizer. Almost like hawaiian poke. I loved it very flavorful and fresh pieces of tuna. The ponzu sauce brought it all together. The boyfriend got the softshell crab roll topped with crap. The softshell crab was in season. The roll was a fried roll but delicious. I also had another roll, I don't remember what was on it but it was delcious as well. They offered us dessert we got the fried tempura banana with vanilla icecream. So good. the warmth of the fried banana with the icecream together was delectable. The service was great, only cause we were the only ones in the restaurant and it was about closing time. I'm pretty sure any other roll we get will be delicious. I want to also add that the presentation was beautiful. They slice up some daikon as garnish and it just looks fancy. they gave us a 20% discount. I'm not sure if it was because it was for their grand opening or because we were special. I'll go with the latter. Definitely go and try their rolls. They need more advertising. Super brand new I couldn't even find them on google maps yet.

Fish is usually pretty fresh (as fresh as you get for Kansas anyway). Their selection is fairly limited on their rolls but still up to par with most places. I have eaten sushi all over the world and for the location, ninza does not disappoint. Customer service is always great too! Will definitely be back here again.

A knockoff of Wasabi but not as good. Save your time and go to Wasabi instead or Kanai.

Great food! So fresh!!!! Love the people here:) The service is great, makes my day perfect! We tried the ninza cake as appetizer, it was amazing! Then we tried udon, it was not as big as an entree, but it was perfect for me and the price was only $3.95!!! What a great deal! This is my favorite place! Yummy~~~

My oh my, that was just what the doctor ordered! After two days of talking and training, this was a treat. I got the sashimi deluxe, and it was! Bonus: great miso soup, a hot salad of teens tiny squid, and a to-die-for dish of baked salmon cheek. I sat at the bar and spent a delightful evening talking with the chefs. The portions of the super-fresh sashimi were more than generous, and the varieties went beyond standard. All in all... great.

Pros: plenty of parking, very polite, very good salmon skin salad, and the sashimi deluxe was good too. Cons: the spicy baked salmon roll fell apart. The sexy roll was okay. The tempura is pretty bad and meager. Spent $80 on two people without alcohol.

Found this place on yelp when I was craving sushi and traveling through Wichita on business. Could not have been more impressed...some of the best sushi I have ever had anywhere in the US! Period! Highly recommend the Red Fantasy Roll and Squid Salad!

3.5 stars. I ordered a sashimi platter with a bowl of sushi rice. Basically, a chirashi, but I wanted to make sure they wouldn't skimp on the fish portion. If you order the 20 piece, that is going to be the best value you will likely find in ICT and the quality and cut of the fish is good. The rest of our order was not as much to my taste.

I love the variety of rolls that you can get. They have such a wide variety of choices in sushi rolls everyone can find something to enjoy. Service is always pleasant and speedy.

Great neighborhood place. Every bit as good as more expensive sushi restaurants. Try the Japanese burrito for start (or with some soup for a lunch).

Phenomenal sushi! I've had lots of sushi from a lot of places and this is great!! If I lived here this would be my go to in Wichita! Great prices and excellent staff/service. Definitely on my list to come back.

I usually like to start off with dessert so we had the tempura green tea ice cream. It was great start! Then we ordered a salmon skin salad and the spicy baked salmon roll and the red fantasy roll. The presentation was quite appealing, especially the spicy baked salmon. It was served in a foil boat surrounded by fire. The heated roll gives off quite an appetizing aroma. The service was fantastic as well. The only down side to my experience was the rowdy table next to us.

Delicious sushi ! You can't go wrong here , crab appetizer was out of this world . Seaweed salad is a must try . I prefer my kiddos not eat anything raw so we ordered the baked sushi for them . GO ... You won't regret it !

Excellent Sushi! To those that are new to the sushi experience, the staff is very patient and explains the differences between the meanings and offers suggestions on what to try. I am a fan of their Rainbow Roll and the Fire Dragon Roll! I have never had a bad experience and the food is always delicious and fresh. The atmosphere is somewhat "lackluster" but the food is wonderful. Sometimes we order to-go and take it home to eat and it's still great! The prices can't be beat either! Favorite on the West side of town!

What a great sushi restaurant. Our previous favorite closed down unfortunately; but I think we have found it's replacement. The staff were very friendly and attentive. And the food, it was amazing. The Honey Stone roll was our favorite this time, but I can't wait to try all of the others.

Do you think you can't get amazing sushi in Wichita? Think again! This place was worth driving to and the service was exceptional. The woman on the phone even got me special gluten free soy sauce when I told her I can't have the regular kind. I will be returning! They use REAL lobster and real ingredients, it's very obvious compared to other places in the area. Try this place!

Best sushi FOR THE PRICE in Wichita. Kanai is better, but Ninza is cheaper and better than Wasabi. This place does have plenty of tempura rolls and other dishes for your non sushi friends :)

Good menu great service. If only they would serve chirashi in a bowl or box instead of a big flat plate, it would be perfect.

Excellent food, good atmosphere despite its location. The menu had more items than expected. There is much more that we would like to try. We suggest that you try the Ninza Cakes!

Tried this a few times now and it is my new favorite sushi place! Staff is very friendly and the food is super fresh. Have sampled the sashimi, sushi, udon, and many apps! All amazing. The salad dressing is definitely a great change in the sushi business!

Amazing. We've had 4 of the classic rolls, the Honey Stone roll, and the sashimi platter and everything was fresh and fabulous. So glad to have this close by!

  • Bill T.

Holy crap, that was good! I had miso soup and the chirashi sushi, which was served with a bit of seaweed salad. It was some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. Friendly and attentive staff. For an unassuming strip mall joint, it's just ridiculous how good it is.

Came in here a couple of months ago. Since then Ninza has become a weekly destination for our family. My 3 year old and 5 year old kids love the Spiderman with a little bit of extra Eel Sauce and than proceed to follow that up by devouring an entire Baked Scallop Mozzarella roll. In the past 6 visits we have tried at least 15-20 different rolls and are yet to find one we don't enjoy.

Not bad foo, terrible service, and has anyone got chunks of tofu in their miso soup? I've been there 5 times and never had tofu or seaweed in my miso? Just broth and a few green onions, not up to par on miso

My wife and I live only minutes away from this place. Have been coming here about twice a month since it opened. Great little sushi bar and the staff is always polite and helpful. Food is fantastic and the price is just right. Give it a try and it will end up on your favorite list.

Took the honey there for a late lunch last week and I must say...YUM YUM YUM! The atmosphere is quiet, the decor nice. It was not crowed at all as we went around 2:00. The minute we walked in the door we were greeted with smiles. Sushi was fresh and plates were decorated beautifully. Honey had the Udon soup for an appetizer I had a garden salad. Loved the smokey taste of the dressing and he finished every last drop of the soup! I do agree with last review that this is definitely a "hidden gem" in the Wichita Sushi scene. Will be going back often!

My husband and I are from Denver (& Los Angles) but we are moving to Maize KS. We thought we would not be able to find Sushi as good as Denver and LA. We were in KS closing on our new house and looked up on Yelp to try to find any sushi places. We were near Ninza and thought it looked hip by the pictures and menu on Yelp. So to our surprise, the sushi was fantastic! Better than many Denver & L.A. Sushi places. We love baked sushi and they have lots to choose from. Their rolls were very creativity designed and tasted so very good! The staff couldn't be nicer and the sushi chefs (from LA) were so up beat and fun to talk to. Prices were comparable to our hometown favorites. We are so relieved to find a new "date night" place for us in our new community.

I was traveling through from out of town and stopped in. I was very impressed with the sushi. Everything tasted fresh and amazing. Hands down the best sushi I've had in Wichita. And the service was excellent too. The map directions take you into the neighborhood behind this place. They are actually located off of 13th St in the strip mall. I would definitely recommend.

This was a great find. This is one of the best sushi places I've ever eaten at. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was superb. The portions were way more than at any other sushi restaurant I've eaten at. I will definitely be a regular.
