Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Hubby was wanting Mexican Food and after reading the reviews -- I suggested that we try La Chinita. We got there right at 11:00 am because reviewers had mentioned how busy their lunchtime becomes. And immediately behind us, more people arrived. We both really love 'Street Tacos' and several people had mentioned the 'Al Pastor' as being awesome. I was tempted by some of the other things on the menu, but decided to stick with the tacos. We both ordered their Margaritas 'On The Rocks' and they were very good. Our Server brought us chips and 2 types of salsa. What they considered their hotter salsa, was not hot by our standards. The first basket of chips is complimentary, but additional baskets are ,50 cents and salsa is .25 cents. We decided to order the "Al Pastor' and the 'Carne Asada' street tacos -- basically to compare them. The 'Al Pastor' was far better than the 'Carne Asada' (which were lacking seasoning). Our Server was very attentive and checked on us several times. He also answered my question about what ingredients are in their 'Fideo' (which is a pasta -- much like angel hair- with garlic, onion, tomato and salt). He also brought us a "To Go' with a smile on his face -- which was nice! We definitely will be going back. I think next time, I will order one of their combo plates, so that we can try their 'Chile Rellenos', 'Tamales', 'Burritos', etc. When we paid at the register, I requested a menu -- so that I can really study it before our next visit :)

The owners are family with the owners of Cholita's. Lots of seating inside and very nice wait staff. Monterrey was huge but looked quite messy. Flavor was ok if you like that sort of thing. Large portion for $8.40 must be the draw. The street tacos were delicious. Try thewith al pastor. 3 tacos with a little guac, beans and rice for 7.40. Salsa was subpar. Hate to say it but it was bland and overly blended. Had a groupon which made it a value but would not return otherwise. Sorry Dad...

This is a tradition that will hopefully still be open for years to come. Love this place. The food and service are both great.

Extremely friendly waiter who was sure to keep our beverage glasses full at all times. The wait for the meal was extremely long for what we ordered. (30 minutes?) Decor is diner style. Everyone sat around the wall and no one sat in the middle of the restaurant. I asked for street tacos with chicken, instead of beef, and that seemed to be a shock for the waiter. I noticed few items on the menu that were chicken or fish, although there was a [small] vegetarian section. There was also a children's menu. Our chips were a bit stale, but the salsa was fine. It was the smooth blended (not chunky) kind. The guac was excellent (very chunky and flavorful). Beans could have used more garlic and cumin (but that may just be my personal preference). I judge a Mexican restaurant by its salsa and rice. Both were good, but I would not make this my destination-location for either. (I may return for the hearty guacamole.) Three of us ate together for the first time at La Chinita. Two people thought it was "okay," and one person thought his meal was "very good." I favored the friendly and good service over the food.

I've been there four times. Solid offerings of food and I always went away satisfied. I upgraded my rating to five stars...great food and service! UPDATE: 8/2015 I just read that La Chinita is opening a second location with the same menu in the square at Old Town. Not sure when, but it's on the way.

We decided to check out Chinita after a movie. Upon walking through the door, we first noticed that it's larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. While walking to the restrooms, we felt Chinita's warm and attractive interior. We decided to call it a night, as we weren't hungry after popcorn and a soda. We decided to include food with our second visit, and we experienced the same warmth, great food, great, friendly service at a price that was well worth it. We'll return again and again, and eat.

The single thing that stands out for this restaurant is the service. The staff was very friendly and service was quick. My cousin asked for a custom plate of lettuce, plain shredded chicken and a bowl of salsa to top it off (because of an uncooperative gall bladder). I thought to myself, "ohh no, here we go...", but to my surprise, she said it was no problem. We had 3 kids in our party, and I felt they were welcome and looked after nicely. The chips and salsa kept coming all night long with no hesitation. I actually prefer a chunky salsa, but I still enjoyed it. The dinner with re-fried beans, rice, soft taco and burrito was delicious. I would definitely visit again.

The service was outstanding! Loved the Street Tacos - Al Pastor. We will definitely go back! The chips are completely addicting!

Good chips and salsa, interesting margaritas. I enjoy both their burritos and their quesadillas - Mexican and American style. They allow you to do a la carte items and to substitute more beans, no rice, extra lettuce, etc. Super friendly staff and just a good all around feel. Casual business lunch times La Chinita is PACKED. Regular customer base.

I'm amazed that I haven't written a review of this place yet... My father's house is only a few blocks away, and this is one of our favorite places to grab dinner when I go for a visit. The service is always friendly and prompt, even when the place is crowded, the food is great, and portions are generous. I'm a fan of the chile rellenos, and I always have to remind myself that ONE is plenty, even for dinner. The margaritas are very tasty, though I'd prefer a bit more tequila. Last, but certainly not least, the prices are very affordable. I'm used to eating out in KC, where it's practically impossible to get a good mexican dinner for under $10 (w/o alcohol), but here, no problem!

This is my favorite restaurant in Wichita! The wait staff is amazing and very attentive. My favorite is the combination #3. I love the rice as it is very simple and perfectly Central Mexican. Additionally, I really LOVE the salsa. I am quite a wimp when it comes to spices, so I always pick the mild which is perfect for my taste. If you are into hot sauce, ask for the kitchen sauce. It is AMAZING (though a bit spicy for my taste). It has chunks of pork and hot sauce. So so good. Like another poster said, it is owned by the brother of Colits's on the West side. I like La Chinita's much better though :)

This is my favorite restaurant in Wichita! I have been going here for over 10 years! Best salsa around and I love their beef and cheese enchiladas! Friendly staff! Highly recommend!

Meh. Bland Mexican food. The steak fajitas were a joke. For twelve bucks, all I got were a few scraps of overcooked meat and a ton of vegetables. Sorry, but I expected more. Because the fajitas were one of the highest-priced items on the menu. I might as well have gotten a burrito. At least I wouldn't have been as disappointed. The chips were from a bag. Surprise. Surprise. Oddly enough though, this place was hoppin at lunchtime. I just didn't understand why though. I know there's better Mexican food joints in Wichita. I just have to find them.
