Jose Peppers was better than I remember. Perhaps I ordered something odd last time I was here because today my food was delicious. Our server's name was Sarah (with an H, ew. (Jimmy Fallon reference)), and she was perfectly delightful. We started with espinaca and salsa. The espinaca was typical, but the salsa was delicious. It seemed to have bits of deliciousness (avacado, pineapple, I'm not exactly sure) in it. I ordered the Corona shrimp tacos, which were even more impressive than the salsa. The beer battered shrimp was perfectly cooked and the presentation was colorful and looked delicious. I ate every bite. The only very small issue I had was when the manager came and interrupted our conversation after we finished to check on us. While I know this practice is pretty typical of a manager to do, he literally popped up midsentence and interrupted us. He was very young and couldn't have been managing for very long, so I let it slide. Overall I was very pleased with our visit, even though I forgot to use our espinaca coupon, which is why we were there in the first place!!

We were looking for a place to have a company lunch and we walked in and were seated right away. That was very good for 20 people. They were not busy on this weekday right at noon, which is bad for them i suppose. Everyone seemed to like their food. I had the Pork tamales. It was spicy like the menu said and it was very good. I didn't care for the rice and beams that came with it too much though. Not bad, just nothing special. The chips and salsa were good, but we had to share the salsa between every 4 people or so. They did offer everyone a refill of their pop or tea to go which was nice.

Food is okay, but with all the authentic Mexican restaurants in town I don't think I'll go here very often. This is chain food texmex.

First time visiting as we drove through. Decent food, generous portions but salsa had a hair in it. Manager came by to apologize but did nothing except bring new salsa. Not that you expect to comp drinks which we only had tea and water but seriously when a mistake is made like this, comping something can go a longways.

I have tried this place a couple of times. I have also visited chain in Kansas City area...by far the store in Wichita is worst of all. Food is awful and service is not good!

My boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick lunch and we were not expecting anything great. We were greeted very quickly and the waiter told us the queso was on special for .99 cents. O' yeah bring it on! Queso was very tasty. I got the shrimp tacos and my bf got the pollo magnifico. Two thumbs up. We will be back to try some margaritas.

Really bland and really bad. I have been here a few times over the years with family who wanted to go. The food is flavorless and covered with shredded non-Mexican cheeses. The salsa is not bad for having a strong canned tomato flavor. The meats are dry and unseasoned. Especially the chicken which tastes boiled and is dry as I have ever had. The service has generally been pretty good but tonight we had a server who was pretty bad. She had to come back three times to confirm and double check part of our order. She then brought out one person's meal but not the other three and said simply that the one entree had been put in by itself because of her double checking she did on the other entrees and that everyone else's food would be out in a few minutes. The rest of the order came out almost 10 minutes later forcing the person to wait to eat. She never apologized or even seemed to understand that everyone's entrees should generally come out together. On top of that there were no drink refills or checking in with us on our meals. Poor service all around. Consistently abysmal food and inconsistent service. I hope I never go back.

We were informed yesterday that all steak is marinated in beer that only the black beans are actually pork free and that the red sauce contains lard as well. This has always been a favorite of ours and everyone there knows us and our diet restrictions, so of course we are completely disappointed.

The best chicken fajitas we have had in a long time. Service was wonderful. Don't hesitate to stop here..you won't regret it.

I tried the sample platter. It was really nothing special. Mini chimis, mini tostados, mini tacos and two large pieces of poco pollo magnico. The chicken was lean and seasoned with salt and black pepper... that along with the other ingredients and flavors gave this place an On The Border type of taste profile. The service was terrific. I would come back just to try items with chipotle cream or jalapeno cream sauce.

Tequila lime chicken was well more than what I was expecting! I ordered it with no cheese to experience all the flavor it may have in store and it was packed with more than I was expecting. My wife ordered chicken avocado enchilada's. It was just alright. I just retired On the Border from my list of Mexican chain restaurants.

My wife and I have spent way too much money here. You might say this is our second home, and we live on the west side of town. Both Jose peppers offer the same menu and drinks, but we prefer the layout of the east location and the staff have not changed much over the last few years which is nice when we get to know them. Mike the manager always treats us and every patron first class, and we even had our rehearsal dinner in the great outside patio area. We love the food, drinks, and espinaca. It is more Texmex, and it's not an expensive joint, but we really enjoy it. Some people have said the food is bland, and I'm no food expert so I won't try and convince you otherwise but for us the food is good and the staff make it a great place to go. We sit at the bar because it is a large open surface that has great views of the different tv screens, and the bartenders are always on top of us making sure we are taken care of. I could go on forever but I'm gonna just suggest you go check it out. Go during a slower time at least your first time do you can take it all in. If it's just two of you, sit at the bar. Enjoy!!

Always delicious and our top favorite Mexican food restaurant in the Wichita area. It is the only place that comes close to the Tex Mex I grew up with in Houston, TX. Make sure to get some Espinaca!

We went Fri. night for the first time. The chips were very good, but the serving size for the con queso (tasty) was very small. My wife had the chicken enchilada and said mine taste better than theirs do. My chicken chimi was pretty crispy, decent flavor & good cheese sauce (requested). Everything seemed a bit too salty for both our taste. From what our guests said, the fish tacos were excellent. Attentive service, pretty high noise level though- it was hard to hear the other people at our table. Don't plan on going back.

Went to Jose Peppers this evening and had a great meal! I had the Jose Peppers sampler platter which consisted of 2 pollo magnificos (all-white chicken rolled in a flour tortilla, lightly fried and topped with jalapeño cream cheese, monterey jack & cheddar cheese, then baked.), 2 mini chimis, 2 mini tacos, and 2 mini tostados. Needless to say, there was no way I could eat that much food in one sitting so I got a to-go box and can enjoy it again tomorrow! The servers name was Theron. He was really nice and very educated about the specials they were having. He was very efficient. When I asked for a to-go box, he asked if I had saved room for desert-I said "No way Jose"! lol Had a great time!!

Service was good, food was super hot and for how much I like standard tex mex (not my favorite) it was adequately delicious. This is my only complaint based on preference.... WAY TOO MUCH CHEESE. Next time I will ask for light or no cheese in the avocado chicken enchiladas I ordered. Overall good experience.

Not bad for a Mexican chain restaurant. A little carried away with the melted cheese. I prefer hole in the wall Mexican food...

I have had a great experience all three times I have gone here. they did a great job transforming the old BG Bolton's space. The staff is very friendly, the food is all phenomenal, it is fast, family friendly, affordable, and I thoroughly enjoy myself when there. I have had a number of things there but their special chicken dish is out of this world (if you like cheese). Good margaritas as well.

Same amount of stars as dollars I gave for tip. I feel I'm being generous. No wait at the door, which was great since the wife and I weren't looking for a long night out. However, upon being immediately seated and given the complimentary bottle of hand sanitizer, chips, and salsa, we didn't see anyone looking to serve us until we looked for them after waiting politely for 10 minutes. Finally, after a server with a keen eye that was clearly from a completely different section noticed me looking for our server - any server, he took our full order and was understanding and apologetic of the situation. We got our drinks, our mandatory espinaca, and our entrees very quickly. I'm from KC, and the food is just how I remember it being up there. Decent Tex-Mex. I do really like their New Mexico Red Chile sauce. This would warrant more stars had the server that was originally supposed to be taking care of us been helpful at all. She finally showed up to refill my wife's tea and barely got a full sentence out in the process, let alone her name. She refilled my wife's drink one more time before we left (without word), then asked if we needed a box and returned with the check. I emphasized on the ticket that the $2 tip was for the server that actually took our order, and left back to our hotel to write a review on Yelp for the first time.

When you first sit down (like any other mexican restaurant) they give you some chips and a cup of salsa. The chips are thin ( which is my preference) and perfectly salted and the salsa is really pretty good. The menu has great choices. I had the "A," pollo something or other. It was all white chicken in a fried flour tortilla covered in cheese and a jalapeno sour cream sauce served with rice and beans. Everything was good, not incredible, but I would eat there again. The waitress was on top of everything and always made sure we were okay and our drinks were full.

I had heard bad things about Jose Peppers (too much goopy sauce, couldn't find the enchilada under the cheese, too salty) and good things (the dip is fabulous, mmmm love Jose Peppers - can't wait to eat there again) My daughter and I went there yesterday evening to try it for ourselves. Both of our overall opinion.. bland and let's not go back again. We started with the chips & salsa which were very good. Salsa was tasty and chips were warm & thin/light/crispy. We also ordered a plate of chicken nachoes to share. They were very good too. Their quacamole is very good. For our entrees, she had BEEF TACOS, which came with black beans, rice and a dab of a cornmeal mush. She said the food tasted bland, she didn;t try the cornmeal. I had the MAHI FISH TACO'S that came with the same sides. First of all I could smell the fish when it came out.. to me that means it's not that fresh. I don;t like a fishy smell. Upon tasting them they also were very bland. The beans and rice were ok, also bland and I tried the cornmeal mush and it simply tasted like raw cornmeal dough. I have had similar cornmeal at other Mexican restaurants and I usually love it and want more but then again, it is usually cooked! A friend said he went there and his first experience was not that great but he went back and loved it the second time. I had heard the "dip" was sooo good but there were 3 to choose from and I didn;t know which one people were talking about. Same friend said their spinach dip is one that is so good. Maaaaaybe I'll try again sometime, don;t know. The foos should not be so bland.. the menu descriptions made it sound like everything was going to be spicey! Not true!

This restaurant is located on the FAR east side of Wichita next to the 13th Street Warren Theatre. The customer service was OUTSTANDING!!! Our waitress was quick and checked on our drinks regularly. We found a hair in our salsa. A long one. So that was kind of gross but it happens. The waitress handled it and in the mean time the manager came to the table to apologize. We hardly ever complain at restaurants but when we do we are never rude about it but the server/manager usually takes an attitude with us for whatever reason so we REALLY appreciated the way they responded to our complaint. The food was decent but not anything incredible but it was cheap for a sit-down Mexican restaurant and the staff was so friendly that we will probably go again if we're in the area. They also have a lot of TV's that seemed evenly divided between sports and news channels. I thought I'd add that just incase it was important to someone.

On verge of a 4th star.....maybe one more visit will put me over the edge. Not usually a fan of chains. But it is difficult to entirely avoid them. Good experience at the Overland Park location quite some time ago and the group felt it was worth giving a try in Wichita. When the wait is shorter than they initially told us - that was a good start. The chips and salsa were what we remembered -- although we argued there was a change in the salsa. Still good, just different (maybe). Now for the service....she was young and was probably new and she was making a sincere effort and very friendly. Effort and friendliness make for a good experience. The food was as good as we recalled. No complaints. The Tequila Shrimp Tacos were great! Big compliment since we are so far from any shrimping boats! If anyone ever finds another restaurant serving that corn masa side, speak up. We have dined at many chain and authentic mexican restaurants and don't recall finding this any where else. If you have not already done so, give the black beans a try. A good alternative to the refried beans. In short, when driving upon a Jose Pepper's and there is a slight desire that Mexican food might fullfill, stop and give them a try. I highly doubt you will be disappointed, and likely to say you would return.

The chips are to die for, even without any sauce or cheese. They sell queso really cheap if you order an entree, which of course you probably planned on doing anyway. The service is good. The entire place is filled with booths...no tables and chairs, which I think is brilliant. Most people prefer a booth. Some of the menu items which contain cream cheese can be a bit too rich, bland and ... cream-cheesy? LOL. I like that you can replace the rice and beans with a side of roast veggies (which were darn tasty). I think they also offer a fruit option. Great for those of us trying to steer clear of the carb overload.

Chips and salsa are the best around. Food was very good. I like that you can get a fruit plate with it rather than beans and rice or potatoes. Nice decor. Attentive wait staff. Music would be a nice addition.

i love this place!! my family goes weekly. ill agree its not like going to mexico and getting mexican food but then again how many mexican resturants around here are THAT great?! none compare to this place in my opinion ESPECIALLY for the price. me my boyfriend and our three kids..only two can actually eat the food one is a baby..but we can all go there and eat for under $35 with alcohol purchase. thats a hell of a deal to me. their espinacha sauce the cheese dip..DELICIOIUS! i get the chicken chimi with that instead of the red sauce!! SOOOO GOOOD! i dont eat the little mushy stuff on the side of every dish beacuse it looks yucky but my son likes it. if you do have room for dessert...try the chimi with the raspberry white chocolate drizzle ITS TO DIE FOR!!! omg i love that! the chips are perfect ..crispy thin and always hot..and the salsa is AMAZING! i would reccomend this place to ANYONE AND EVERYONE..and i do all the time. its soo good and cheap! and the service there is one of kind! my first experience there the waitress was the reason we decided to come back! the food was great but her service is what made the ultimate experience for us. she was nice, conversated with us, suggested good foods that we might like, boxed my food for me and wrote a very sweet message on the top of the box! ...she went above and beyond!! and every experience ive had there has been of top quality since!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
