I have been in Wichita on business all week, and Felipe's is by far the best service I have received so far! The bartender (guy with dark hair serving Friday evening 4/17), gave exceptional service. He made sure to tell me to order whole beans for a vegetarian option since received uses lard, he was friendly, and everything came out quickly and perfectly correct. Most servers don't know or care about details like that, and it made me feel very valued as a customer. On top of the excellent service, the margarita (Sangria margarita during happy hour for $3.75), and the food (1 tostada and 1 cheese enchilada for $8.55) were fantastic. See the photos I posted. Compared with my other experiences this week, this bartender deserves a promotion for wonderful customer service!

MOST HORRIBLE MEXICAN FOOD EVER!!!! The salsa literally tasted like pizza sauce!! I ordered the carnitas and what I got was not the fried Mexican goodness that everyone loves, I got some big chunks of mystery meat that tasted almost rancid!! The waitress ( who was very nice ) gave me half off, but I still don't think it was worth the 6 bucks I paid for it! My son ordered the carne asada and it was tasteless!! The chef does know you have to marinate meat before you cook it or it just comes out super leathery, right?? No matter how much greasy veggies you put on top to disguise it, it's still cheap unflavored meat!! The refried beans had like a cup of processed cheese on top! So much it didn't even melt!! HELLO!! The cheese is usually garnish to accentuate the flavor of the beans, if you need that much cheese to cover the flavor of the beans then you should really rethink your recipe!! Actually, rethink most of your menu because my husband and I had trouble finding something that sounded appetizing on it!! That's the point of menus, you try to sell your food on it! Duh! As we were leaving we noticed several signs advertising that you had been voted the best Mexican food in Wichita, well if what you showed my family and I was the best I really would hate to see you at your worst!! Thankfully we didn't take any out of town guests to your "restaurant" how embarrassing for you, YUCK!! I gave you 1 star because I felt sorry for the waitress that had to serve your food.

After visiting Felipe's Jr. out east a few times, I was expecting a similarly good experience. I ordered the fish tacos, as I usually do at the Harry St. location, but was super disappointed with what came out of the kitchen. The fish was greasy and bland, and half-heartedly topped with some plain, shredded cabbage. No pico, no cheese, no sour cream, no additional sauce. I actually had to ask for the avocado-y sauce they were supposed to include, and even that couldn't make these tacos any better. There was no flavor and nothing exciting about them. I actually prefer my homemade fish tacos, and I am definitely not an expert at Mexican food OR cooking fish! Sorry, west Felipe's, but I won't be returning. (Although Felipe's Jr...I'll give you another chance.)

Used to be a good tex mex Americanized place but over past year been there 3 times with service and quality going downhill Don't ask for premium tequila, you don't get it Never haver their habenero and tomitillo salsas anymore They say they give you corn tortillas on certain items, they are not they are flour, don't even try to get a margarita with a unsalted rim, took us 3 times to get, than actually seen bartender pouring in cheap well tequila not called for tequila It only angers waitresses and who knows what they did to are food, they were pissed we questioned them, could not get management out to talk to, so we left and ate at a competitors place Is there new management or what has happened? Any know anyone have likewise experience ?

Last night about thirty minutes before close my friend and I went to felipes for a quick drink and conversation. Upon entering all the staff watched us walk in looking less than thrilled we asked if the bar was still opened. . Umm yea. . Was the reply we got so we showed ourselves in. We sat at the bar a couple minutes with no one coming in to get our drink order. Finally when the woman entered behind the bar I apologized "hey sorry we know you guys close in thirty we just want a quick drink" the bartender didn't acknowledge I said anything or did she make eye contact. . "What do you want to drink?" My friend and I talked for a bit and finished our drinks. We knew it was 9 when the bartender came back behind the bar with her phone out and playing music while she started cleaning up. .... great customer service. .. sorry for the inconvenience we caused we'll make sure and keep our business at the central felipes! everyone there is always super friendly!

Standard Americanized Mexican fare. Fajitas were decent. Salsa was too sweet, and the hot salsa tasted identical to the mild. Service was quick and repeated. Lunch specials were affordable and portion appropriate for price. You're not going to feel transported to Oaxaca by eating here, but it does its job for a quick in and out lunch.

My family and I ate here the night of November 30th. We eat out quite often and know good food and good service. The service was so so and the place was empty. Our waiter dissappeared while we were eating and our empty bowl was never refilled with chips. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They tasted funny and looked awful with some kind of green avocado sauce on top. After further inspection I found my enchiladas to have a mixture of chicken and pork in them. We gave this place one last try but needless to say we won't ever be coming back to Felipes. There are much better restaurants!

We were visiting family for a celebration and had a lunch here after church. Here is the breakdown: Pros: - we were seated very quickly and had our own room, which was great, especially for A Sunday lunch - the service was good. They had 2 servers working our room, very friendly - they processed payment very quickly Cons - salsa was horribly sweet and queso tasted like it was made with Valetta - my chimi changa was grilled??? It was more like a borrito - kids meal does not include a drink (it cost $2.50 for a cup of milk) - my husband had a combo plate, which included a cheese enchilada...it was horrible! Again, tasted like valvetta. - it was myself, husband, 1 year old and 3 year old and our tab was $47...OUCH, especially for Mexican food for 2 adults and no drinks! I said early the service was good. It would have been great if she would have noticed I took 2 bites of my food and my husband ate about 1/4 of his food and asked if everything was to our expectation.

I noticed that Felipe's on 119th hasn't been reviewed in a while so I figured I would submit a review after my experience last Saturday night. My husband and I got there around 7 and were greeted and seated right away. It was nice, because we thought we would have to wait being that it was a Saturday night. The waitress was young and enthusiastic and was very attentive to our needs. The chips were thin warm and crispy. Soo very good! However, the hot sauce could have been hotter, and the mild sauce tasted like a ground up tomato. We both ordered a pork burrito with chili verde over the top. I was surprised how quickly we were served our entrees. The food was OK. Just the standard Mexican food with very little spice. The portion size was large and we both walked out of there stuffed. The prices of our meals was very affordable! A definite plus in my books! The atmosphere is nice (much better than the one on W. Central) up beat, casual contemporary. You can even eat out by the water if you so please. Husband and I will definitely go back. The service, atmosphere, and food is much better than the W. Central location.

We went into Felipe's on a Sat. night. We were able to be seated right away in the bar area. Our server was great, too bad their bartenders were so hideous. I have a tendency to time certain aspects of service. We sat less than 5 ft. from the bar and it took 25 minutes to get 3 Margarita's. Our server ended up going behind the bar and making them herself. too bad the two bartenders standing back there were unable to do their job. Because they were in our line of sight them doing nothing is an observation not a theory. Stick to the 21st and Woodlawn location. They at least have service.

The food is fairly standard Mexican/American fare, but the prices are very reasonable and the service and atmosphere are top notch. There's even patio seating overlooking a pond when the weather is nice. I like the enchiladas and the margaritas and the never ending chips and salsa. I've always had good service from the young, friendly, attractive, and attentive wait staff.

I come here every time I'm in Wichita. The food isn't amazing, but the flaming cazuela's are and they keep me coming back!

A family favorite. I always get the chile relleno with beef and cheese, flour tortillas, and hot sauce. Love it!! And this newer Felipe's has quick and friendly service, lots of space, and a beautiful decor. The chips and salsa are good-we like the hot version of the salsa much better than the mild.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
