This is what defines the best of Mexican food to me as I have been raised in Wichita and have eaten here since I was at least 10 yrs old when I fell in love with their flour fried beef tacos. Now that I'm in my late 40's, I've converted to their pork chili verde. The jr special with chili verde is something I dream about. In the 25 years that I lived away from Wichita I never missed a meal here while home visiting. I've been living back in town for 4 yrs now & have visited all the other locations and none compare to this location. It's my happy place.

Solid Mexican food with fresh ingredients. The chips and salsa are top notch and the service is excellent.

Have loved this place for years. The other locations, not so much, but the food here is consistently great!!

I've always loved Felipe's! I couldn't wait to eat there again after being away from Kansas for a few years and this was the closest one to my house. Just as I would expect, delicious! I especially love their salsa, it is made perfectly with a mild and a hot. Friendly staff, great food and great margaritas!

The food was good! The service was absolutely horrible! The hostess was very rude. Ran out of chips and drinks twice. Had to ask for napkins! They have Girl Scouts setup in the restaurant going around to the table trying to sell cookies!! The last thing I want at a dinner is someone trying to come up to us selling things!

Sorry, but I admit upfront that I am biased. I have been a fan of Felipe's for over 30 years. They are a family run restaurant that offers tasty American Mexican food fare. Others have done a much better descriptive narrative of the menu items, so I'll just invite you to give them a try.

Felipe's Jr. offers groupons and other discount coupons pretty regularly - and I would suggest buying them! They offer great drink specials, even on weekend nights, and their food is delicious. My husband usually goes for the chorizo something or other, and he always enjoys it. I like the fish tacos. I'm not sure if they offer these at all the Felipe's in town, since this one is "Jr." but probably. I also have tried the corn patties topped with beans and such, but I can't remember what they're called. Sopas? Anyway, everything I've had here has always been great. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, especially when you're first seated. The salsa isn't my favorite when it comes to Mexican restaurants, but the hot one is pretty good. Those are my only complaints!

I'm new to Wichita and I try a new restaurant every weekend. I chose Filipe's based on its 4 star Yelp review and was really disappointed in the food and the service. When I arrived, the restaurant was completely empty, no guests or staff in sight. When a waitress finally spotted me, she took about 5 minutes to end her cell phone conversation (she was planning her night out with the girls) before she approached me. I'm a very patient person, so this didn't bother so much, but her cold irritated demeanor toward my presence, wasn't exactly the reaction I was looking for. I was seated and ordered my drink, then the waitress disappeared for 15 minutes before she returned to take my food order. I received my food very quickly, in less than ten minutes, but it wasn't quite what I ordered. I politely informed the waitress that it was incorrect and she proceeded to argue with me that that's how I ordered it. I felt defeated so I ate my plain, sauceless, boring enchiladas that did nothing for my taste buds, and plenty to my digestive system (this morning has been brutal). My waitress was so horribly rude from the moment she seated me to the moment she threw my check on the table without saying a word. In a nutshell, I paid $25 for the worst service I've received in quite some time and for bland food that I didn't even order to begin with. I always like to find a positive in every experience though, and with that being said, my margarita was excellent!

We've been regulars for at least 20 yrs. Last year moved out of state can't wait to get back for more of my favorite Felipe's #1. Deep fried flour taco, beef tostada, & cheese enchilada . No one makes these dishes like Felipe's! The dip (get the hot) is the best I have ever had. The service is great too! I wear the servers out ordering " more hot sausa" Chase it down with a Cadillac margarita.

OMG!! This is another place that has delicious fried tacos!!! The salsa is very tasty and so are the sides of beans and rice (don't always like this at most restaurants). I highly recommend this place. I was sorry to read how Christine C. was so poorly treated. Hopefully the owner stops treating customers like this..maybe he was just having a rotten day and took it out on her..who knows..

The margaritas and fish tacos were off the hook. Also loved the chips and hot salsa.

This is my families go to Mexican restaurant. It's been a staple of our Friday night outs for years and we usually make it at least once a month (sometimes more). I usually stick to two dishes whenever I go, so it's either the Chorizo con Huezos or the Carnita's...though I've strayed from those two regulars a few times and ordered Fajitas or the Mexican special. I have yet to get a bad dish. I have never seen anything below good service...and 99% of the time the service is top-notched! The wait staff is is very attentive and keeps the drink/chip refills coming. We are usually sat in a appropriate amount of time, and usually do not have to wait more than 10 minutes when they are busy. The owner is friendly to us and everyone else I've seen him interact with. I'm actually thinking that there is more to the story that Christine C isn't willing to share...maybe she was the one that was having a bad day, what with all her "friends" standing her up for dinner. One things for sure I think if I was her i'd at least choose better friends..If you invite 20 some people (who say they will show) and you end up only having 3 people there...then there is something wrong one someone's part. I do find it hilarious how one can say they've eaten at this restaurant and the others in the Felipe's family...yet base their sole review on one incident. How about including the other times you've ate at Felipe's? I'd put money on that this single "incident" is either very much blown out of proportion and most likely was just a rant from someone that got her feelings hurt by her "friends" standing her up.

I have eaten at this Felipe's and others around Wichita. Their food is very good, drinks good, chips & salsa yummy! I am giving this location a 1 star rating because of the rude way we were treated by the owner. How you are treated when spending money at a business is just as important as the food itself when reviewing. I am moving from Wichita at the end of this month. A group of people were going to get together for a going away night out. We weren't sure how many people exactly were going to show but a good number of them said they were planning on it. My friend reserved a table for 20. Turns out just three of us were there! We were having drinks, chips & salsa. After about an hour past the reservation time, we were just about to tell them well, we guess no one else is coming. At that same time the owner comes over and starts angrily saying why did we reserve so many seats and it is just 3 of us??!! It is an hour past your reservation time and you are holding up these seats and I am losing money!! I turned to him and said how were we to know they were not going to show up? They said they would be coming! It's not OUR fault they didn't! He is grabbing the silverware and bowls of salsa. He says the reservation was made just at 5pm, how would you not know they were not coming??!! Because they TOLD us they were!! He leaves and shortly after the waitress comes back over and asks if we'd like to order. I say NO! We WERE really looking forward to eating here but after being yelled at by the owner for something we had no control over, absolutely not! I said the owner especially should not be yelling at his customers! That he was not losing business because there was no one waiting at the door, everyone who came is was seated. We finished our drinks, paid the bill and went next door to the Port of Wichita and ate there. They have very good food by the way! I will never go back to this Felipe's location again!

We are not from the area, so maybe Wichita's idea of decent Mexican food is different than ours, because it was busy and we overheard people saying they liked it but we did not. The mild salsa tasted like marinera sauce (hot salsa was ok). Our food came out in less than 5 minutes on a Saturday night with a full dining room (there is such a thing as too fast) which made it clear our food was plated up off a buffet in the back. The food was luke warm. This was one of the only mexican restaurants that do not have hot plates (if you are serving from a buffet in the back like alot of mexican restaurants do, at least put my plate in the oven). Food all tasted bland like prepackaged meats. My wife had the ground beef tacos and the ground beef had the texture of ground beef put in a food processor until a near powder. Our server was average. Overall, nothing about our experience was good. We were dining with a Groupon, so I do not know if we were treated differently than the other guests, but we couldn't help but wonder the whole time how this place managed to get any business.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
