This is one of my favorite Mexican Restaurants in Wichita. Food is good, always hot and consistently good. Service can go either way, just depends on who you get. Good for a large group at any time of the day.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Wichita! The food is consistently great and they offer $1.50 margaritas on Wednesday evenings (nothing better than good Mexican food and margaritas during the week:)). The steak fijitas are awesome!

When my wife and I lived in Wichita, we stumbled upon El Agave. Wonderful, excellent food. When we moved, El Agave closed their doors and moved to a new location, just a block or so south on Rock. This was our first visit since El Agave has moved. It was still just as good as we remember. My wife got a chicken chimichanga and I got a vegetarian plate of 2 bean burritos. My burritos were smothered in the cheese sauce and red sauce. I probably shouldn't have gotten the red sauce, but it was still tasty. It's better with just the cheese sauce, which is really good. My wife did enjoy her chimi, but it had a bit more veggies stuffed in it than she remembers. Still a solid Mexican food stop!

The food here is authentic, tasty, and very reasonably price. The service is first class, and everyone is so friendly

Went here for the second time ever. First time was at their previous location. I thought it was pretty good then, but this last time warranted a good review. Everything was great. It was clean, organized, and prompt. Lots of smiles, and the waitress knew the menu. My friend loved the tacos, I had a chimichanga, my other friend had tacos Al Pastor. The salsa and chips were excellent, we got numerous refills, and the food tasted excellent. I get that this is pretty much americanized Mexican food, but it tastes great and was a good value for the money. We'll definitely be back.

Great everything. I've been here multiple times and had many different items over time as well as brought large groups here. Everyone seems to fall in love with this place. Great food. Service is simple and not all over you but it's still a great place to go. Only time I've seen disappointed faces was on Holidays where everyone wants to go there at the same time. That tells you it's a great restaurant though. From time to time you get one server who doesn't fill drinks regularly. Only reason they didn't get 5 stars.

Wasn't impressed. Definitely have had better Mexican food. Service wasn't really that great

The new venue seems a little too cluttered. Looks like a sea of tables and chairs lined by booths. Chips and salsa, not the best, not the worst... Ordered the Fajita Taco Salad, received it lukewarm. Flavor was midrange, asked for no peppers, received lots of peppers. Wait staff was okay, friendly, but not too timely. Overall experience, mediocre. I'll give it another shot down the line, but honestly, it didn't impress me.

Our experience here was ok. Enormous portions, lots of options, and unique decor were the high points. We came for the margaritas, but they were definitely made from a mix, and I had a sugar headache the next morning after drinking just one of them (although, they are quite large). I had a few different enchiladas from the a la cart list, and they were good. At 9:30 (on Sunday), our waiter was very insistent that the restaurant was closed. We pointed out that the Internet says they close at 10:00. Not sure if the web is incorrect or if the waiter just wanted to clock out, but we were bummed to be hurried out so quickly, especially while other people were still dining in the restaurant.

To be fair, you can't really expect to find a 21st and Broadway-type Mexican restaurant on North Rock Rd. The best Mexican restaurants tend to be low-rent, a little dirty, and full of Mexicans - definitely not something that appeals to the families living in the upper middle class housing communities around here. But we can still do a little better than the Carlos O'Kelly and Taco Rio we currently have, and it seems that the moderate crowd populating El Agave even in its first week of business would agree. I was worried I was in for a Felipe's-like experience of blandness when I was given the complimentary chips and salsa; canned tomatoes should never be used to make a salsa. But it thankfully turned out to be the low point of the meal. I've finally come to the realization that the rice and beans served alongside every Mexican platter are ultimately useless - there's little variation from place to place, and most of the time they serve as filler to a meal that already contains a good deal of it between the chips and extra tortillas. So instead, I opted for a trio of tacos on the a la carte menu - chicken, al pastor, and carne asada. Served plainly alongside a much more competent (and fresh) complement of pico de gallo and tomatillo salsa, the chicken was moist and flavorful, the al pastor mixed things up a little with some pineapple, and the al pastor, while not my favorite, was good enough. It would be nice to have a few more a la carte items to try. While the cheap meats like ground beef, cheese, beans, and potatoes seem to be heavily pushed as the fillings for the tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, but there are other options, and I recommend you go to the trouble of seeking them out. I'm still more likely to travel elsewhere in the city for my Mexican, but for this part of the city, it's a definite step up.

My family and I recently started going to this place and we love it. Chips and salsa are good, margaritas are awesome (come in huge glasses and are very smooth), food is good, and we like Antonio as a waiter.

Food was above average, service was so so. Our waiter appeared to be the bartender so he didn't seem to have time for us. Not sure if we would go back.

Meh. The food is mediocre at best, and the service is horrible. Case in point: the restaurant was not very busy, and our server still somehow found a way to not check up on us. It took quite a long time to even get chips and salsa. The lunch menu was reasonable, and the serving sizes were definitely generous. But, as far as I'm concerned, the negatives outweigh the positives. I won't be coming back to this place any time soon.

This restaurant has great food and good drink specials. My fiance and I are from San Diego area originally and have struggles to find authentic mexican food, this is the closest we have found. Fajitas are great.

We enjoy the food and atmosphere. The service is not always great so that is the only reason they don't get 5 stars from us. The food we have tried has been wonderful. Taco salad, chimichanga, burritos, and enchiladas...guacamole is good and the rice is usually nice too. If you are a mexican food junkie, you really should try this restaurant. Love it!!! Thanks for the outstanding food. Note: their margaritas are just okay - not that great for a mexican restaurant....

This place has gone down hill in our view. The last time we went my wife, daughter, and I shared the fajitas. The next morning all three of us woke up with food poisoning. Used to like this place, but just cant stand to go back.

Chips and salsa was good. It's your typical low quality restaurant. The service was horrible. Took forever to get waited on and to have our drinks refilled. Thankfully we had a coupon or we would have been even more unhappy.

Went here the other day for an early dinner with the kiddo. She's pretty picky but seemed to do OK here. The chips and salsa were good as was the queso. Her child plate was free with my dinner so that was a bonus. The fajita nachos are an interesting idea, and tasted exactly how you would expect. The waiter wasn't overly friendly but was attentive and quick. Lots of food, not too expensive and was kid friendly so likely will be back to try something else.

Good food but service was lacking big time. Took forever for refill of drinks, and they sat us in the back all by ourselves and seemed to forget about us.

Went there after our favorite (Felipe's Northeast - Sorry Brad) was closed (early for NYE) - stopped by after a full day of air travel...we needed a Margarita and some comfort food. As with our last visit to this new location, it was unorganized, a bit dirty, slow as heck service. Eh, it's New Years Eve, but the place only had 20-25 people dining! Food was okay, no service to boast about at all - lacked warmth.....probably because the windows were leaking so much cold air! It was soundly 15+ degrees cooler than the thermostat! no silverware, food served 5 minutes apart from other diners at the table....restaurant 101 guys. The new location looks like it was thrown together in a hurry. Need to rethink the front door layout too. It's bad! In general, it's an option - but I still recommend our entire family's favorite - Felipe's!

The food was just ok - there are lots of places in town with better Mexican food. Salsa was pretty blah too. Our server wasn't very friendly and didn't act like he wanted to be there. Probably won't eat there again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
