I was not impressed by the food at all I am a regular customer at Thai-riffic on Pawnee and rock so when I ate here I was very disappointed. My regular restaurant was closed so I thought I would try it out. The food was dry and the vegetables weren't cooked all the way! The flavor was very bland!! I love egg rolls and they did not have any flavor either ! Our family Got the Thai pepper steak and the chicken pad see ewe. I will not be going back to this restaurant!!

I think we're fortunate that the range between good and bad Thai food in Wichita is pretty small, and they're placed so far apart that the one you like is perhaps one that is close to where you live. Still, there are some distinctions I've noticed as I've attempted to visit them all: the better ones are in dumpy locations, they have a strong and loyal following, and - in the cases of Wichita Thai - squid and duck make appearances on the menu. Chiang Mai certainly checks all of these boxes, but it was marred by the simple fact that the meal I selected wasn't very good. The tom yum was made from a concentrate or something, because all of the seasoning had settled to the bottom by the time I cracked it open, resulting in a dish heavy on acid from the limes, but otherwise fairly one note. Pad krapow is a simple stir fry, but I was disappointed at the lack of basil in what should otherwise be a very basil-heavy dish. Spice was lacking, too, and with the same pounded bland chicken pieces that's found in all Thai restaurants, I didn't bother finishing it. Clearly my ordering was a miss, because there were far too many people in this run-down restaurant to be there for any other reason than the food.

We ordered the Sweet & Sour shrimp & certainly did not get that. The shrimp was overlooked & extremely 'fishy'. I could not eat it. We ordered $40 of food & only ate rice. So disappointed.

Great food, friendly waitstaff. Not a good location but food and price are worth it. Traditional Thai and Lao dishes. Pretty clean but nothing fancy.

Best Thai food in Wichita. I love their lunch specials you can get a soup or egg roll, a main dish, and a dessert for about $7 including tax.

I walked into an empty not terribly appealing restaurant for a take out order. The service was friendly and the food arrived promptly. The spicy thai rice that I ordered was just what I wanted - not gourmet, but it hit the spot. I'm not sure what it would be like when people are in the restaurant - or what the waiter service is like, but for take out, it's well worth it.

The best Thai restaurant in Wichita!!! Everything is amazing and very reasonably priced! I usually dine in, if not order to go about 2-4 times a month!

This place is excellent! I really enjoyed the food, and as of right now would consider this to be my favorite, reasonably priced Thai restaurant in Wichita (after Thai-riffic closed). Place isn't beautiful, but the way people described it in reviews I thought it was going to be dirty and small. It is a reasonably sized restaurant that was just fine. People are too uppity.... Ordered the Mussaman Curry, it was amazing. Pad thai wasn't the best, but still good, and the pepper steak was excellent. The lunch menu is huge and has lots of options available for less than $7/meal with large portions. They even have Khao soi on the menu!!!!!!! A true Northern Thai restaurant. The place was nearly packed on a Thursday lunch hour, so people really do like this location and it is worth the drive/time. The owner is super sweet and willing to help me order a large meal for a group meeting in terms of pricing and sizes, which I really appreciate. Extremely excited to continue eating at this place!

Love the panang curry - may not be a fancy joint but the food is great The papaya salad is another excellent spicy find!

So this isn't always my go to place when I'm craving Thai food, but it's a decent option. I would say the main reason why I've disliked going to this place recently (maybe for the past year or even more), is because it's just too hot to dine in there. They need to fix their AC or something. It really ruins my dining experience. They have fans everywhere but it doesn't really help that much. I guess I could always do take-out instead, but again, we usually think of going here as a second choice because our other restaurant options (Thai places down the street) are unexpectedly closed that day. So on a positive note, we can say that we always count on this place to be consistent with their business hours. As for the food, the Lad Nah is also consistently good. The Pad Thai is pretty good, too, but my first choice is always the Lad Nah. Normally my husband and I will share dishes, but here, we just order our own because we can each finish it all.

I ordered the Spicy Basil Beef. It was not a tasty as I remember it from the first time. It was lacking that basil flavor since I only saw two basil pieces. I doctored it up with the spice tray and their homemade hot chili oil, which made it more enjoyable. The fried rice was simple, but good. It seemed like the meat was cooked prior and then added when the food was being plated. The Pineapple Fried Rice was good with the raisins and cashews. The Pad Thai was common and a go to dish. The eggrolls had mostly cabbage and carrots, which tasted good when fresh. I enjoyed the complementary Chinese donut as a dessert. Service could have been better. It was lunch time and busy for the two waitresses.

Mediocrity seeps from the walls in this establishment. Our go-to Thai restaurant, Thia-Riffic, was closed for the holidays, so we decided to check this place out. I imagined it had to be good based on its reviews. Once again, though, the general masses have led my taste buds astray. The overall presentation leaves much to be desired. Bars on the windows, dimmly lit corridors, and an ultimately sketchy demeanor may be slightly unnerving if you forgot your concealed carry at home. I also thought it was only an oversight that the placemats were Chinese. The menu, however, serves to corroborate the restaurant's lack of authenticity. Thai food is indeed on the multichaptered menu, along with various dishes one might expect to find at the mall, or with a "oriental" street vendor. I ordered Tom Yum (Shrimp), my favorite, and my counterpart ordered Tom Yum (Chicken). Both of us were supremely disappointed. It lacked flavor and was deprived of substantive ingredients. Fluffed with nearly whole tomatoes, surely canned mushrooms, and only three shrimp, I would rather have stayed home. The stir fry my Husband ordered was dull and without flavor. My duck, although significantly delayed, was okay, looked good, and showed promise. It was only slightly overcooked, and seemed edible. The accompanying sauce, however, was not. Which unfortunately left me forcing myself to ingest dry duck. On that note, we took the bill and parted ways. This visit had been a bust and I would not reccommend this establishment.

Went to this restaurant only because this was the only one opened on a Sunday noon when we were in Wichita. Food was average and I have had much better Thai food somewhere else. They gave us Thai desert donuts for free. But I couldn't quite enjoy it. The waitress offered to give my two kids cups with lids. But they never came. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant and I probably will not come back again.

My go to place for fried rice! I would have taken a photo of it, but I devoured it before I could. The restaurant isn't in the best location & definitely isn't somewhere I'd take someone for a "nice date" (there are bars on the windows) BUT the food is on point. The pork fried rice is delicious and the servings and big and they are reasonably price. Will continue going there.

Second best Thai food in Wichita. I'm quite impressed with their menu. They had all the necessary curries, noodles and soups. When I ordered som tum, they asked "Thai or Lao style?" Now we're talking. I asked for the Lao style (which is spicier and more pungent), but with peanuts (more a Thai thing). O, and of course, sticky rice. When my dish came out, you could see bits of crab in there. They do not mess around. I don't think my dish was the most popular one at the table (we ate family style), but I thought it was incredible. As good as my favorite som tum restaurant, Thai Lao Cafe. Other dishes we ordered: Pad See Ew- Also as good as Thai Lao's with the smokey char flavor perfected. I didn't get to eat much of it, b/c others liked it, too. Pad Thai- As good or better than Thai Lao. Purist version of the recipe with not much extra with the noodles except for fresh bean sprouts. Not my top choice. Some tom yum soup- I'm just not a huge fan of kaffir leaves, but my friends enjoy this. As good as any in Thailand. Maybe even better for me, b/c the kaffir leaf flavor was a little more subdued. Duck- I think it was deep fried. There didn't appear to be much meat. My friends devoured it, but hubs said his piece was too dry. Chicken Larb- Much better than Thai Lao's. I actually enjoyed it and would've eaten more, but it was all gone. Has raw onion bits, so if that's not your thing. It's ground chicken meat, where the strongest flavor is probably the lime. Fried Rice- I didn't get much of it, so you know it was good. Our friends who come here more often say that all the fried rices are good. Mango Sticky Rice- Rice was more cooked than the regular sticky rice. Mango was perfect. Pretty solid. Very good food which is basically on par with Thai Lao, but the portions were significantly smaller and the prices were a little more expensive. For this reason, I prefer Thai Lao. However, Thai Lao's laid back way of operating makes this restaurant a very attractive alternative.

With all the Thai places in town being fairly lack luster, chiang Mai was a light at the end of the tunnel. The food is always fast And fresh. The Tom yum is probably my favorite. You are never at a lack for veggies or meat. The service is great and if you are lucky "mama" will be there to talk you through your choices. Location isn't the best but hey, great places are usually off the beaten path. I would recommend this place to everyone. It's great food at a great price. You won't be disappointed!!!
(5)Howard C.
I'd say this place and Thai Laos cafe battle for the top Thai food in Wichita. The service is done well. The atmosphere if great for a family dinner or romantic dinner. We've ordered many things on the menu, all of which are delicious. I'd recommend coming with a group of people to try more foods. I'd go back here for sure.

I went here based on coworkers love for this place. I had there pad see ew (however you spell it) wasn't that great, it was okay. But when there a second time and got one of their salad dishes recommended by the male working there and loved it!!! The dressing on it was so tasty and just the right amount of spicy for mild. An abundance of vegetables, meat, shrimp with the cellophane noodles! Makes me wanna try the rest of their salads there!

We started with the appetizer platter. The egg rolls were awesome (and I am a very picky egg roll eater). The crab rangoon was delicious and was very flavorful. The fried shimp were pounded flat then fried - pretty good. My husband liked the fresh spring rolls, and there were also some fried dumpling like things that were delicious. In the center of the platter there was a really delicious sauce!!!!! The only thing we didn't really care for in the platter was a shrimp patty (Tod mun). I had the pad thai and after trying pad thai's all over Wichita, I vote this as the best in town. Flavorful, well seasoned, and moist. The raw bean sprouts are a bit odd but I mixed them in the pad thai and enjoyed the crunch. My husband had the Gaeng Dang Red Curry. The portion size was big and I liked the sauce. However, this dish had cooked thai basil in it that was very strong tasting and not something I would try again. He liked it after eating around the basil! Most of the dishes are around $7 or $8 for dinner which seemed very reasonable for the portion size (especially with the buy one get one coupon!).

People who need ambience to enjoy your food: don't come here, there is none. Thai Tradition is for you. People who want real Thai food and don't care if there are bars on the windows: Woo-hoo, you've found it. S. Hillside is home to some of the more interesting aspects of Wichita, as it has a run-down out-of-business amusement park, a long-forgotten neighborhood with a long history (Planeview), more QTs in a five-mile radius than perhaps any other part of town (and that's a mouthful, there), one of the taller bluffs in the city that may have given the road its name, and several of the best Thai and Laotian restaurants and groceries around. Oh, and it is terribly run-down and scuzzy. So keep driving almost as far south as you can go on Hillside and you get to the little pawn-shop and nail-salon-type strip mall that includes Chiang Mai. Named for the largest city in Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai means "new city." Yeah, ironic, I know. The food sometimes takes a bit longer to arrive but it is always good, good. Try the Kang Han Lay curry, a yellow curry with onions and ginger...bursting with the layered flavors of a great curry. Pad thai is as you'd expect, spicy tofu basil curry what you'd expect, but can you get chicken larb or spicy basil squid or fish kua tiem prig thai (fried tilapia chunks in a super-intense chili sauce) at Thai Tradition? Well, no. But you can at Chiang Mai--along with a beautiful view from between the bars.

This place has several menu items I could recommend but I want to encourage your own exploration. Lots of seating. Great lunch space. Gets a little warm in the summer. Little rough around the edges but I have enjoyed every meal and experience.
(4)Mikael D.
The wait time takes forever here and food was cold when we got them. I drove all the way there because I heard how good they are but turned out it was not worth the drive at all. One reason I could think about going back is because it's cheap but uh no that's not what I'm going for.

This is the best thai restaurant I have eaten at in Wichita hands down. My friend and I shared several dishes. The mussman curry was served medium hot with the chicken in a bowl. The rice was seperately served on the plate. The chicken was tender and the curry was a nice blend of seasoning that was not too heavy. The rice was soft and moist. This was the best dish of the three we had. The next was the tofu curry which was thai hot with a plate of tofu squares that are fried in a curry sauce with onions, red and green bell peppers, and bamboo. The rice was also served on the same plate. The final dish was the pad thai again Thai hot. This was also better than I've had because the noodles were soft and the spices were not over done. The portions were very good for the lunch menu. They also served complimentary dessert of doughnuts which were shaped like small muffins. The service was nice and pleasant. I would highly recommend coming here for Thai cuisine in Wichita.
(5)Brett S.
The best pad Thai an pad kee mowe in town. As a former resident of Los Angeles, I would put them up against anything Little Thailand has to offer.
(5)Meagan L.
Initially we went to Thai House however it was closed. The owners there were cleaning up and suggested we go to Chiang Mai. We went and definately will go back. It is off the beaten path however well worth the trip. We ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. It was outstanding and nicely priced. Nice portions also.

Chiang Mai is in a weird part of town, in a weird strip mall, and has a weird atmosphere (cluttered front desk and kitchen - you'd think they would pick up what the public could see). But the food more than makes up for all of this. I usually order the veggie pad thai with tofu, you can't go wrong with any of the pad thais (or curries from what I hear). I like being asked if egg is okay in a vegetarian dish, and the option to personalize the spice strength. I come here with co-workers a lot (it's close to work for me) and have never heard a complaint about the food. Ever. In fact, people rave about the food so much that one co-worker who hadn't been before, said she felt like she'd been missing out on a huge secret. And really, you are, if you haven't been. If you work at Spirit/Boeing/Cessna/McConnell, it's a very short drive for a fast and tasty lunch. In the hot summer months their air conditioner seems to struggle, that's the only other thing I'd note about this place.

The food was okay but the filthy condition of the restaurant will keep me from returning. Too many other great Thai choices in Wichita to patronize a dirty establishment.

Excellent food, prompt service, great deal lunch special. The food is good and the prices are very reasonable. Well worth a shot.
(4)Wenday L.
My favorite dishes are the Yaam Woon Sen and Issan Laab, because I'm more of a veggies and noodles type. Their mango and sticky rice is also yummy nummy! In my opinion, this is a great place for some flavorful Thai food. I'm by no means a Thai food expert but I've been to many Thai places around town. This is so far one of the best places I've been to.
(5)Kris S.
Based on all the good reviews here at yelp, I tried out Chiang Mai today. The mauve pink decor and faux flowers were not as off-putting as one might anticipate, but the children's crayon scribbles and the clutter on and behind the cashier's counter made me wonder about how sanitary the restaurant was. I had the Chicken Larb, sticky rice and some green tea. The sticky rice was from the bottom of the pot and dried out and hard, and the salad that came with the meal was yellowed. The chicken larb itself was ok, but they didn't bother to chop up the mint and the cilantro so there were huge stalks and stems in the way. The service was ok, the restaurant ok, the food was ok. But for a $10+ lunch I was not impressed.
(2)Jarrod S.
The place was not clean. My spring roll was luke warm. The pork Pad Thai was very good I'd give the entree' it 4 stars, but the rest only 2 stars.
(3)Matt K.
I've visited Chiang MAI three times now and all three times have not been disappointed. The service is great, very attentive. While I haven't strayed from Larb Gai as far as what I've choose...I've sampled other dishes from those I've went to. The food is very delicious and worth the trip. I've had the fresh spring rolls as an appetizer and they are superb. I don't worry to much about the ambiance (which to me is more than adequate), the food is what makes me go back to a restaurant more than anything. I just can't break the habit of only ordering the Larb...but it's my favorite Thai dish! To me Chiang MAI is off the beaten path...but worth the trip, so if your looking for some good Thai food and your in near the area, its worth going to!
(4)Darla A.
Best Kan Lay Curry I've ever had! The egg rolls are wonderful, not greasy. It is my favorite Thai place in town! The service is excellent. Everything I've ordered has been fresh and yummy and I go there a lot!
(4)G C.
Went there for lunch take out for Pad Thai, food is pretty authentic but the raw bean sprout on the side doesn't look too fresh. I'd stick with the cooked food there. It's family owned I believe. I'd definitely come back for more take out =)
(4)Sarah G.
Ooooh Red Curry Chicken (mild)...where have you been all my life? Chiang Mai is a diamond in the rough. Located off south Hillside, in a strip mall. The atmosphere is dated with traditional Asian-style-restaurant wall coverings. But what the ambiance lacks in appearance, the food makes up for. The lunch specials are excellent. All entrees come with soup, salad, or egg roll. Entrees can also be created to fit your spicy needs (mild, medium, hot, or ....Thai Hot). I've enjoyed the Pad Thai with Chicken, Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken (not as sweet as you would think), and the Red Curry with Chicken. (Do you see a pattern here?) The Red Curry with Chicken is amazing. There are pronounced tastes of red curry (duh), coconut milk, and basil. I have tried to recreate such a taste and have failed, horribly. Presented like a soup with a side of rice, it's perfect on a cold day. The waiting staff are very polite and have come to know me (and my co-workers) well. Prices are excellent, especially when considering the amount of food provided. Every lunch without Red Curry (Chicken) is like an eternity. Thank you Red Curry (Chicken), See you next time.

This is the place to go for authentic Thai food. The pad thai is perfect here. The noodles are tender and everything is fresh -- topped with crushed peanuts and crunchy fresh bean sprouts. The Pad See Ewe is also tender and the sauce is just right. The papaya has crushed baby crabs and fresh thai chilies, similar to what you would find at a street vendor in Thailand. I haven't tried the crispy duck, but I've heard it was amazing -- something to try during my next visit! Also, the owner is an adorable Thai lady who will remember you and your orders if you're a regular customer like myself. This place has the hole-in-the-wall feeling, but the food definitely makes up for the ambiance.
(5)Cairrie Diem N.
I love their lunch specials which are quite affordable. I love their shrimp pad thai and their pineapple fried rice. Their mango with sweet sticky rice was awesome. I've had thai food in other states, and I must say their food is pretty authentic. I always come back to this place. I love the quiet atmosphere and short wait time for a table.
(4)William L.
Went here for dinner with a coworker. It is a nice quiet place and the service was very good. We were the first ones in the place and it took a while for them to bring us our food but it was very good. I ordered Ginger Beef with med. spicy and I think next time I'll make it mild. My friend is Asian and he ordered spicy, and loved it. Im getting to old for the hot stuff. We ordered ice tea and they brought a extra container each, plus also refilled it. I needed the cold tea to cool off my mouth. I enjoyed the food and will most likely go back soon.
