Here it is - the best of the best that this city has to offer. I've been putting off visiting Chester's, originally for my 300th review (sadly, that was only three months ago) and then planned for my 400th, but sometimes it's hard to decide on a place for dinner, so I got out my nice digs and prepared myself for a night of excess. Expecting nothing but top-notch, I think saving the restaurant built up some large expectations, not all of which were realized. Yes, Chester's is a very nice restaurant, and it creates a very high end atmosphere to match. I generally don't mind cities whose restaurants don't impose dress codes, but c'mon - it's Chester's. I saw plenty of jeans up in this joint, and when I left, I saw a guy in a full cowboy getup. Not that cowboy dress is necessarily worse than jeans - it's just perplexing why anyone would dress that way. He was rocking the hat, too. The menu attempts something that's not normally seen in the higher-end restaurants around here, which is to say that they attempt more than the simplest flavor combinations. How many times have I looked at the menu online over the months and was amazed that a restaurant in Wichita would have a carpaccio plate, or would feature a seasonal raw bar, or parpadelle and Colorado lamb ragu. Thoughtful and creative flavor combinations - who would've thought? I sat at the bar and was greeted with a bread basket containing a homemade bread and pita chips alongside hummus. Neither breads were particularly warm, and the pita chips were a bit stale, but still got the job done with a non-traditional hummus of red pepper, I think, a fair amount of rosemary, and a good hit of garlic. I appreciated Chester's doing something different. There's was both a choice and prime version of the bone-in ribeye on the menu, but I typically prefer the flavor of the former, so I ordered it medium rare. I felt a bit patronized when the bartender gave me his spiel about what exactly constitutes cooking a steak medium rare, but it sounded like it was something he's required to say, so I didn't take offense. I did notice that during his speech he referred to medium rare as an "undercooked" steak, and I don't agree with that at all. The ribeye came Frenched, creating a nice presentation, and the meat had an outstanding char from the grill - nearly borderline burnt, but it wasn't. To my surprise, it also didn't seem to be seasoned at all; there was a distinct lack of salt. It hurt what was otherwise a pretty well-cooked piece of meat. I was given the option of four different sauces for my meat, of which they were happy to give me all of them to explore. The house steak sauce was cloyingly sweet and decidedly one note. The "lemony Béarnaise sauce" was indeed lemony, but it looked like it had been sitting around for a while, because it wasn't very warm and was staring to get a little crust on top. Nevertheless, it was indeed lemony, and it was the sauce I returned to the most. The "garlicky herb pesto" seems a bit redundant to me, as both garlic and herbs are almost always included in the making of pesto (though the same can be said for lemons and Béarnaise), but there was plenty of herbal and garlic notes, though it was more like a flavored olive oil, as the oil constitued the majority of the sauce. Not reviewed was the Cognac au poivre sauce, because they forgot to bring it to me. (continued below)

We've visited Chester's twice, and have not been disappointed. For me, it hits the top three most important points: well-appointed menu, gracious service, and nice atmosphere. I (snobbishly) wish it was not in the suburbs, as that detracts a bit from the ambience for me, but the restaurant is lovely and is situated by the water. As others have pointed out, the sides are priced separately and served family style. The servers do not tell you this unless you ask, so plan with your party what you will be ordering.

A return visit. Staff was very pleasant. A very busy Saturday evening yet the hosts and managers were very calm and friendly. Pork Chops were fantastic! What the menu describes as "bread pudding" is more of a cheesy bread. For someone from Hawaii, as I am, bread pudding is more of a dessert not what Chester's considers bread pudding. All in all a very good experience and I will return when ever I am in town. As a side note, the manager was very attentive to detail even taking note of the Hawaiian brand of shirt I was wearing.

Incredible starter of pork belly sliders made with waffles and jalepeno jelly, a delicious way to begin our meal. Large portion on the pasta, malbec was light and there is a lot of staff to make sure your meal is complete. Outside seating is nice, however, if you're not a cigar fan opt for inside seating. We just love this place discovered while driving cross country in 2008. The service was so good we remembered our that waiter's name was Mason. Returning last night for our third visit we found he is now the manager. Ambiance was relaxing and has that great steak house feeling. I had the prime strip, perfectly cooked inside and out. Wine selection is also excellent. Brittany was a knowledgeable server and the hostess who took our reservation and greeted us was lovely. We actually decided to take this route home so we could once again visit Chester's.

Love this place. Best steak restaurant in Wichita. Was on a week long business trip. Looking for great steaks as we were in the mid west. Found it at Chesters. Had the 22 oz rib eye medium. Cooked to perfection. My associate had a New York strip that melted in your mouth. A must try is the chocolate bread pudding and a side of vanilla. Will be coming back for my steak fix.

Excellent food and good service. Undoubtly the best restaurant in Wichita. Recommend the 8 oz filet (not the petite), also trout is really good, ask for the garlic salad (not in the menu) , feta cheesd appetizer is awsome, shrimp cocktails are excellent, wongton pizza.. only thing that is sub par are the desserts!..once again best high end dinning in town, better than new port, yayas and certainlt better than S&S.

Amazing! I was in town from KC, where I'm spoiled with top notch steakhouses. Last night's dinner at Chester's was outstanding! First, have to give a shout out to our server, Morgan! Morgan, if you (or your boss) is reading this... Thank you! My family spent 3 hours, hundreds of dollars, and indulged in thousands of Calories at this establishment. (All totally worth it) We enjoyed the calamari, shrimp cocktail, and several cocktails to start. Our entrees included king crab legs, delicious filets, and the lamb special! (They only prepare 8 all evening, so order early!) After 2 bottles of wine, we mustered up the appetite for warm almond cake and a round of Port. Check this place out! It's worth it!!

Solid 4 stars for what we came for; the steak. Wife and I split a 22oz. Cowboy, bone in ribeye. A bit grissly and tough. I expected great at $68. Salad was good (wedge). Cream spinach very good. Wine was very good. What was five stars was our server, Matthew. A rock star as a waiter.

Are you kidding? This place is fantastic! Everything that a chophouse should be. Start with great beef and seafood prepared perfectly. Throw in a fantastic staff and a wine list that clearly was put together by people that know what's going on and you are destined to have a great dining experience.

This is by far THE classiest restaurant for dinner in Wichita. The service is exceptional, the food is mouth watering. The atmosphere just makes you want to stay and relax the entire evening away! My guests with me love the wine selection and the martini selection and quality. I know it's a bit pricey for most in Wichita, give it a try for a special occassion.

I was in town on business and saw this listed with some good reviews. Loved the location. On a little lake. Very pretty. The food was expensive and that's about all I can say about it. The steak was very fatty. It was hard to cut even with the provided steak knife. I don't know I it was supposed to be 'Kobe beef' like, but it failed. They gave me a sample of all the sauces you can choose with the steak. Likes it better plain. I also had asperegas. It was seasoned poorly and tasted very salty. The salad was probably the best, but then they put the sugary walnuts on it an they didn't go with the vinegarette. I don't think I would send anyone this way anytime soon.

Very nice place for a date. The location is awesome, being on the Waterfront. You get complimentary Hummus with a basket of different kinds of bread. Now, the Hummus is not your plain vanilla, they put sun dried tomatoes and something else in it, it's very thick in consistency, I'd rather have the plain Hummus. On my few visits here, I've had the salmon, tilapia, the steak (I don't remember what cut it was, but it was grilled to perfection), and the shrimp scampi. Very nice ambience, and yeah the dessert rocks too. I had the Creme Brulee :)

This restaurant was fantastic and just what I needed this evening. The steaks were tender enough to cut with a butter knife and tasted amazing. I got a 16oz NY Strip steak, my wife got the 12oz Filet Mignon, and my son got the Jumbo Crab Cake. Everyone was happy. They even rushed the food out for us since we had a disorderly baby in the party. I can't recommend this place enough and that's why it will be the first place to receive the coveted 5 on the Doubleday rating scale!

Good overall experience and atmosphere.. We had a handful of the appetizers including a daily special of bacon something donuts... WOW.. they are extremely good. Also had some fried calamari, french fries and something else... They just kept coming, I couldn't keep them straight. For dinner I had the pork chops.. The sauce and flavor of the meat were very good. However, the meat itself wasn't very good. It was extremely hard to cut and tough. I only ate about half of it because it was too much work to continue to cut through it. The service was great.. no complaints at all. They kept our drinks coming and the water filled as needed. We had a couple different waiters and waitresses taking care of our group... I'd imagine we were a bit of a handful, but we couldn't have been too bad :) Overall a good experience.. I'd imagine we will be back next time we are in town.

This is my favorite place. Make a reservation; it will be packed for sure. The food is amazing. The wine bar is unique. The staff know plenty about each dish. Their suggestions were spot on. Go here, but be prepared for the price--but the food, service, and atmosphere are worth it.

I felt robbed. I don't mind paying $40 for a good steak, but it was bland and unseasoned. It was missing that "wow" factor that I've gotten at more reasonably priced steak houses like Granite City or Longhorn's. My wife agreed. Also, service was slow. People rave about the hummus ... it was bland bland bland. As a matter of fact, all the food needed major salt. The atmosphere was very nice though .... however, we'll never go back.

Chester's has become my #1 favorite place to eat and hang out in Wichita. Every time I go there I meet new people and have a great time. I am a fan of sitting at the bar, ordering up some wine, getting a few small plates, and enjoying the conversation. The food is top notch, the service is unparalleled, and the bar is the best.

I would like to give 4 stars but backing it off because of one thing - keep reading. This is a nice steakhouse much like the other nice steakhouses in the country. Bar area has great ambiance. Like many others, the acoustics are not so good so just know that you are not going to have a nice intimate dinner. Great for groups - that's just what we did. The food is excellent and the chef took care of us because my friend goes there quite often (that always helps, right?) However, when it came to the bill, we were quite surprised ours was much higher than everyone elses.....we both had a salad (one wedge, one mozzerella and tomato), split an entree, one dessert and 2 glasses of wine.... Well the wine was one of the drink specials they had for the evening. Turns out it was $25 a glass - yes you read this correct. $25 a glass... Now I have been to many nice places and never was their "special" an outrageous price such as this. Yes it was good but would have been nice of the waitress to tell us this came at a high price. Shame on us for not asking. Back to the food - the tomato salad was excellent. The wedge salad was small and the dressing too vinegary. Usually a wedge comes with a blue cheese dressing so hubby was disappointed. The salmon entree was delicious. We ordered 2 extra sides because the waitress told us they were small....I would like to know what her definition of large is then... you can totally share the sides - we wasted food because we only ate half of each. Now the dessert...being a cheesecake fan, we ordered the Lemoncello Cheesecake - nice and refreshing. A definate must if you have room or even if you don't!

I was led to believe this was an upscale joint and looked forward to a great meal. Nothing drastic, just everything a notch or two below where it could be. Mainly the steaks. Ours were ok but at this price point should have been excellent. Service was just ok and hurried. No jest ire was made by management or the kitchen towards my dinning companions birthday? I'm afraid Chester's would die a slow death in Dallas where this level restaurant excells. I'm a Wichita resident now and will have to keep searching.

Wow! A place in Wichita that could possibly rival El Gaucho in Seattle, at least as far as food goes. Chester's is a little more subdued, though. It's all dark wood finish and low light. This was a great dining experience, made all the better by our server, who was a wonderful young woman that knew the menu and specials hands down. I went with a center cut filet that literally melted in my mouth. Our side assortment included roasted corn & wild mushrooms, superb. I had a glass of Paso Creek Zinfandel ... what else could compliment a juicy filet but a California zin? Chester's is a great dining experience, a real treat.

Overall service and food preparation/presentation was spot on as always, it's just too bad that Chesters stopped using Creekstone Beef for their steaks. They used to be very tender and well worth the hefty price tag. This time the ribeye was not tender or flavorful at all. My wife and I dined here once for a birthday meal. Let me say that this restaurant is one of the only upscale restaurants in town, and the atmosphere and service was very good, definitely not the best in the country, but probably one of the top 3 or 4 in Wichita. The food: I ordered the (overpriced at $43) Prime New York Strip Steak. I ordered it medium rare. It was served to me as a medium to almost medium well. I almost expect this from lower end steakhouses, but not for $43! These prices rival higher end steakhouses such as Del Frisco's, but in this case the quality was not at that level. The steak was not really seasoned that much as far as I could tell. This really was a poorly executed steak overall and at a very high price. The Yukon gold potato dish we ordered was indeed delicious. My wife ordered a lobster bisque soup. She categorically disliked it and did not finish it. I tried it and noticed that it did have a metallic and earthy pungent taste to it, as if it were full of white truffle oil (a faux pas according to Gordon Ramsey). We did let the server know we didn't like it, but they did not seem to care. In my opinion there are better places to get a good steak in Wichita and all are much less expensive. But there are not many places with an equivalent atmosphere. I give this restaurant 3 stars.

Not sure what the big deal is or why this place is so expensive. The food is mediocre...actually, the steaks are downright disappointing. I've been twice now and was disappointed both times. My money would be better spent buying cheap meat from Walmart and murdering it on my grill at home. Minus the atmosphere, cheaters is just an overpriced, over rated restaurant.

Okay so I know in one of my previous reviews of Wichita businesses I say that I'm trying to eat healthy on this trip, but I have to go to work early tomorrow morning (5AM) so I didn't feel like cooking. I've also ran about 15 miles the last 2 days, so I felt like I deserve a break. I decided to check out Chesters's Chophouse, because it is near my hotel and had decent ratings on Yelp (14 reviews is a lot for a Wichita Restaurant...LOL). Service: The service was great! I was promptly seated when I walked in. Bread, Pita Chips, Hummus, and water quickly followed. Throughout dinner the wait staff constantly checked to make sure everything was fine. They also went above and beyond to refill drinks, offer more bread, bring out the various sauces for my steak. All these things were done without any request from me. Food: The food was good. The bread and pita chips were served with hummus. They were quite tasty. In addition to that I also ordered Mixed Field Green Salad - This is mixed green salad served with walnuts, vinegarette dressing, and apples. This salad was OK. I think the dressing was a little on the sweet side, especially because the walnuts are candied. I think the dressing should be a little more tart to complement the sweetness of the walnuts. Choice Bone In Ribeye - The steak was very good. Cooked very well. I ordered it medium rare. It cooked a little too rarely for my liking, but I'd rather have it undercooked than over cooked. It was very delicious. A nice char on the outside and red on the inside. The steak can be served with three sauces (a butter pesto, peppercorn sauce, and a lemon bearnaise). Of the three I preferred the peppercorn. The bearnaise was also good, but it seemed a little too thick, as if it had been sitting there. It did taste good though. King crab Mac n Cheese - The King Crab Mac and Cheese was excellent. It was the best part of the meal. The Mac and Cheese is topped with huge chunks of fresh King Crabs legs. It is a generous portion-enough for about 2 or 3 people. At $12 this is a great deal! Chester's was a great restaurant. It is far better than I had expected. It offered a nice little treat in the middle of my long 2 week business trip. Although, I did end up above per diem, but it was worth it!

For the price, you can do much better. The duck confit was inedible. The fries have a weird cinammon flavor. Everyone's steaks were disappointing. We will not be back. The wine list was full of unknowns as well.

Spot on! Fabulous food. Beautifully appointed. Attentive service. Pretty much sums it up. Usually I find this end of classy restaurant a bit stuffy, not so at Chester's. The steaks are cooked to your specification to a tee. The sides are family style and very good in all we tried. Super place for a nice evening out.

After living for her almost a year a girlfriend invited me out for dinner and drinks at Chesters. I had never been there and had only heard rumors of how expensive it was. We started off with drinks and an appetizer. I had several different kinds of Martinis. Teddy Bear was delicious and tasted like it didnt have much alchohol in it. Disappointing for me. A very dirty filthy Martini which was also very tasty but lacked much needed spirits. At $8 a pop, I expected more OOMPH. We started off with the Spicy BBQ calamari. Presentation was pretty cool but the taste of calamari and BBQ was not a good combination but it looked really cool. My friend had a steak. I'm not a big steak gal so I didnt pay attention to what cut she got, all I know was that it was a whopping $32. I opted for a ceasar salad. Not to be let down, we went straight for the Creme Brule Trio which was amazing!!! Its like the heavens opened up and I heard the sound of harps and angels singing. The most delicious creme brule I have ever had. Ours flavors were mint, strawberry (my favorite) and I think chocolate? Absolutely saved the whole thing. I'd say that I would actually return here, if only for the brule.

We went to celebrate Father's Day 2013. I ordered the clam chowder which was made to order. This was no big pot of clam chowder plopped in a bowl, nope, this stuff was made fresh every time and it showed! It was, by far, the best clam chowder I've ever had! It had smoky bacon, and was so silk and creamy I didn't know what to do! You have to try it! I can't wait to go back! Everything else was great too, including the service. Amazing!

First time to this place based on a recommendation. We had my birthday party of 13 & found the seating inadequate. They placed us at the front of the house in a major traffic path, not good when u get a surprise visit from my son in the Military. The food well not impressed at all. You pay separate for each item $62 for a steak $6 for a baked potato etc all for average tasting good. The ONLY GOOD THING was our waitress Tonya who did a great job! We will NEVER go back!

I can't say enough good things about Chester's. It's a culinary highlight of the state. Service is top notch. The bartenders are phenomenal. The menu is well balanced and Chef Lane's flavors are spot on. Be ready to drop some cash, but it will be worth every penny. Always check out the specials, as they change constantly and I think this is where the chef regularly hits the nail on the head. The steaks are always cooked to perfection. Sides are amazing. The wine list is cork dork drool worthy. Did I mention that the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and there's a brilliant patio that overlooks a tiny lake? Must I really go on?

I'm a Wichita resident and finally went to Chester's for the first time on Wednesday, March 28 - party of 5. I have to say I really wasn't that impressed. The side dishes were better than the steaks or chops. The steaks were cooked as requested but they were not all that tender. The chops had great flavor but again, were just average on the tender/juicy scale. For me, the menu prices are too high for the quality of food served. Service was better than average but not exceptional.

Overpriced. My steak was good, but this is not on the same level as Shula's, Morton's or any of the other top notch streak houses. The one bright spot was the creme brûlée trio for dessert.

Ordered the prime NY strip at market price of $46. Asked for medium rare and ended up with medium well with one side charred badly. When I pointed this out to the server she reprimanded me for not knowing that they sear the steaks with wood coal. Fine except for the fact that my two dining companions ordered the same thing and theirs was cooked properly. Overly salted appetizers and side items rounded out this disappointing meal.

My husband and I enjoyed our visit. They give you some delicious complimentary flatbread and hummus which is kind of funny for an upscale restaurant, but this is Wichita and we enjoyed it very much! We also each had a field green salad, a petite bistro filet (which comes with green beans), a glass of Shiraz, and dessert (limoncello cheesecake and chocolate cake). The tab came to $100 before tip which I thought was pretty reasonable. They do have some pricey options, but I think there is a good range of options. The service was excellent from start to finish. Everyone was very friendly and not at all pretentious. I also really enjoyed the decor-lots of dark wood and mica lighting. The chairs were super comfortable. All of the food was good, with one exception. The filets were decent quality, not Capitol Grille, but still very good. They were cooked perfectly and came with a nice sauce. The travesty was the bizarre topping! It is supposed to be some kind of blue cheese topping, but it has only the tiniest hint of blue cheese. It looks very unappealing and has the worst texture. I don't know how to explain it other than to say it has the texture of raw unsweetened cookie dough or a thick roux. It really tastes like flour with some butter, garlic and a tiny bit of blue cheese. I make a blue cheese butter with some shallots, parsley, and a bit of garlic to put over grilled steak, so maybe I was just expecting something more like that. Still, they really should consider changing their blue cheese topping because it is truly awful in every way. Still, it did not ruin our visit, I just took it off and enjoyed the sauce. Everything else was quite enjoyable and we intend to return!

Excellent food Impeccable Service My favorite of top-notch restaurants in Wichita, Kansas. I try to steer clear of dairy products and red meats and this place allows me to do just that. Cibola's seems limited in my dietary needs and Italian places love cheeses, so as far as that goes, this takes the trophy. I have a friend that works here, but my review is unbiased. I have been here half a dozen times and my friend was only able to wait on me twice. This individual has been with them since they opened or close to it and if you get the opportunity to have this person, your experience will be over the top to say the least. As for the other waiters and waitresses I have encountered, they seem to be moving you through your meal fairly quickly. I usually go out to eat later than most, usually, 830-9pm, but at a nice restaurant, I should be given the time to eat my starter, main entree and finish my wine and of course conversation. Overall though, I enjoy wining and dining alike in this establishment and for Wichita, it is quite the treat.

Excellent dining in Wichita. My first time at Chester's wasn't what I expected, but my wife and I gave it a second chance and it didn't disappoint us. Great service and good selection of food. I like how everything is a la carte, gives you freedom of mix and match main courses and sides. I recommend trying the Oysters and the baby Yukon potatoes.

One of the top places for Wichita. Ranks right up there with the better steak houses in Chicago, NY, Omaha and KC. Well trained and experienced wait staff that simply keeps the experience at the top. Dined on a busy holiday weekend. Never rushed, never hinted at turning our table. Bottom line......we will return without hesitation.

Why Chester's has fewer than a full 4.5 stars is beyond me...but maybe it is really, as I previously suggested, that Kansand lack...a certain...erm...palate. It's not that I've had a steak at Chester's but there are certain cuts of beef that are naturally more naturally delicious than others, and require no seasoning. That said, the french fries at Chester's are beyond delicious. A plate of these $6 shoestring fries will fill you with starchy goodness. They're perfectly crunchy, not greasy, and elegant when dipped in the bean-hummus spread. Careful though, your waiter might get annoyed at your persistent requests for more hummus, but no bread.

Had dinner with some wonderful company tonight. Steak was cooked just I liked it. The roasted corn and mushroom and mushroom side dish was very delicious too. Great food, great service! No complaints!
