We all know Wichita is a test market for many fast food restaurants - not only for established brands to try new products (Wendy's), but sometimes even new franchises. How's Hots and Brats doing these days? And we all remember quashing Bossa Grill's entry into the U.S. market a few years ago. It seems the next serious contender for franchising has come by Bud E. Roosters. How do we know they're serious? Visit the slick website - you'll see franchise information right there in the navigation bar. They even have a corporate office downtown. A lot of money went into this. On paper, it shouldn't seem like a difficult concept: nothing but lots and lots of chicken fingers. Maybe a chicken sandwich, too, but that's it. You can order meals from three to one hundred of these chicken fingers, along with your choice of six of their sauces, ranging from chicken staples (buffalo sauce, honey mustard) to some more interesting options ('Rooster sauce', country gravy). I tried the rooster sauce with my three piece meal. Would I like it spicy for an extra $.49? Yes I would. The meal also comes with Texas toast - not sure why, but these types of chicken restaurants like to include Texas toast - and "hand cut" fries. Why did I put quotes around "hand cut"? Continue reading to find out! The website says they marinate the chicken, and I can believe that - there was a nice sharp buttermilk flavor in the white meat. The spicy component was also applied before the breading was added, which I appreciated. The problem arose with the breading itself. It shouldn't be that difficult - fried foods are staples of the fast food industry, and many of them have long had the concept of frying down to a science in order to produce the wonderful golden brown crunchy exterior we all crave. Chicken fingers are pretty much just mini fried chickens, with us trading the pleasures of the dark meat for the convenience of not having to worry about eating around any bones. I'm not entirely sure where Bud E. Rosters went wrong - the breading looked as perfect as their promo pictures on their website, but biting into it revealed there to be no texture and little flavor. I am legitimately puzzled at how they were able to achieve such fine coloring with such poor texture. Unfortunately, this is the defining part of the chicken finger, and as such, I was severely disappointed. The Rooster sauce was a majority mayo and maybe a little bit of ketchup or something. But mostly mayo. The fries were hand cut somewhere, but tasted pretty frozen to me. They were dusted with some special seasoning to make them palatable. The Texas toast was not sampled, because I don't have time for that. Bud E. Roosters is taking a serious attempt at jumpstarting a legitimate franchise operation, and they've put enough capital into it to make you believe there's more than one location in a strip mall on the west side. The product hinges on the quality of the chicken coming out of that fryer; with a lackluster breading, it's hard to see their business expanding very far.

Decent chicken. I realized that every time I went in there, the chicken would taste differently than it did before. Also, too often the fries were cold even when I'm the only customer in the restaurant. How does that happen? I'll still go in there maybe but if the fries are cold, I will send it back.

Very good chicken! I ordered the combo meals for the kids and I had the spicy chicken strips. The strips in all three meals were large cuts, moist, and tender. The kids had leftovers and filled up on the amount they had eaten. The staff was friendly and service was excellent. We will be back!

I eat here often. The chicken is fresh, never frozen. The food quality is exceptional. The mashed potatoes are so good you can eat them as a meal. Give this a try you will enjoy it.

I've heard great reviews about this place so today for lunch I decided to see what the hype was about. Sadly, it didn't deliver as expected. By no means is this a bad review, the meal was still enjoyable but I don't think it ranks up in the top after trying three menu items: chicken nuggets, chicken fingers and the chicken sandwich. My boys are picky eaters and yet loved the nuggets. I managed to sneak one in and wasn't too impressed. The meat itself is waaay better than anywhere else you'll get some like mcds or Wendy's but the breading fell pretty short. Same pretty much went for the chicken fingers but more meat compensated a bit for it. They were more enjoyable. The chicken sandwich I had high hopes for. Its pretty much just two chicken fingers on a bun with cheese lettuce and tomatoes if you want. Where I was disappointed is that I didn't expect pickles. There were half a dozen pickle slices on the bottom bun I was not expecting and the roll was saturated with their juice (note I hate pickles worth a passion) if I got it without them then I'm sure the experience would have been better. The French fries fall way short. Very bland and not worth a glance, next time I'll have to try the mashed potatoes. Even adding Freddy's seasoning couldn't salvage them.

Good thick chicken strips, fast friendly service, we'll be back! Their mashed potatoes were home made too, which was a pleasant surprise.

I was excited about a restaurant specializing in chicken strips, nuggets, etc opening up, besides chick fil a. On my first (and only) visit i had a 3 piece strip meal that was pretty bland. Nothing stood out to me about it and I've definitely had better elsewhere. I might possibly give them another chance in the future but im not expecting it to be any better.
