Been here a few times already and have never been disappointed. The portions are a good size even for someone with a bid appetite. I am a vegetarian and I have never had to have the same thing twice .. And that is saying something ! My favorite by far is the asiago and pesto ravioli! The staff is really courteous and they are very accommodating when it comes to substitutions or any other special requests. My only complain here is that there way too much oil in most of their preparation. I wish they would take it down a notch. All in all good place to come with a big group of friends or with a special someone.

Enjoyed a nice lunch. We decided to try the make your pasta which was Angel hair pasta and vodka tomato cream save topped with rosemary chicken. The helping side easily can feed 2 people and comes with salad and brad sticks. We also had penne abruzzi, again the helping size is enough for two and was very cheesy and full of goodness. Doesn't look like the prices are different between lunch and dinner...which with drinks and entree for two will hit you up for about $40. The staff were nice and welcoming and restaurant was clean. Many of the other posts say that this place is like Olive Garden, I would disagree. The only thing that is similar is that you get salad and breadsticks.

Another big group gathering and extremely disappointed with service and pace of service. Had reservation, yet breadsticks and salads were extremely slow. Only assigned one server when we should have had a least 2. Won't recommend for our group again. Smaller groups, date night be OK.

I know a lot of people love Paisano's and I'll sound like a complete corporate sellout by saying this, but...I'd rather eat at Olive Garden. The food here is mediocre at best and woefully overpriced. The atmosphere and service are nothing special. I think this place remains simply because it's local and it's the only other Italian restaurant besides OG.

It was just like Olive Garden! Great nightly specials. Very fast service!! Go check them out! The chicken piccata was drenched in oil and was chewy. The eggplant parm was just ok...

In the mood for a 15 layer lasagna? This is your place!! We dropped in for lunch while in Topeka for the day hoping to find something that didn't come out of a box or a can. We were not disappointed with the homemade sauces and friendly service! We chose from a variety of pasta and sauce choices to please our tastes, and were our tastes ever pleased!! The Alfredo sauce was creamy and cheesy, and the fresco sauce like it was picked from the garden in the back. 2 people stuffed with delicious food for under $20 including tip and enough for a small supper left over. "Best deal in town," is what our waiter kept saying - we agree.

Italian joint, similar menu to olice garden but with more flavor. We always have great service and the food is never disappointing. -1star pass on their lattes it tasted that instant cappucino crap you get at thr grocery store.

We never eat chain Italian food. Locally owned here! This place is awesome!

Food wasn't terrible, but it was certainly overpriced for the quality. The worst part was when I ordered a $4.00 latte after my meal. It looked like instant coffee and skim milk - watery and weak with little black granules (presumably from an instant coffee mix, or maybe grounds).

I liked paisanos. The food was very flavorful and the waiter was professional and seemed experienced. It's nice to have a grown, experienced person as a waiter. They know not to bother you every 5 minutes to ask you "how is everything, everything ok?" That's a big plus in my book; not having my conversations with my girlfriend be constantly interrupted. Very small issue, when we walked in for my grandmother's birthday, we didn't see anybody in the front. I finally peeked around the corner and the staff were busy conversing with each other until someone noticed me and then the hostess took a little too long to come and get us. I'd be a big apologetic if I were her but she was not at all, took her sweet time coming to seat us lol... But that's a tiny inconvenience, definitely didn't ruin our experience.

Wow! I just had a fantastic meal for less than $50 including two drinks, an app, salad and entrée!! If you don't like things smothered on mozzarella, this may not be your place, but quality, value and taste were awesome!

Weary travelers Found this place on your site. Instead of the ubiquitous bar b que we had a sumptous dinner at Paisao's. Fantastic house made salad dressing and sauses. The Mediterean pasta was full of perfectly cooked seafood & vegetables in a balanced olive oil/ garlic sauce. The prices were reasonable & our server was exceptional. (Zarikia)

First time here and we were impressed. Went on a Friday night and was told to wait would be 30 to 40 minutes. Only ended up being 10 minutes which made us very happy. The waitstaff was very attentive and polite. Not just our waiter but overhearing the others relate to their customers too. Ordered the toasted ravioli appetizer and was pleased to see it was homemade. The marinara sauce was sweet and very tangy, a perfect complement to the ravioli. Dinner came with unlimited salad and breadsticks both did not disappoint. Our entrées were plentiful and fresh. I had the pesto pasta with rosemary garlic chicken breast. Also ordered a side of Sicilian meatballs. My partner had the Roman twins which was a combo of a cannelloni with sausage and manicotti. We went home very full and very happy. Will definitely be back. Tried their Lawrence location for a pizza the next day and was happy with that too.

Okay, so I love the food at Paisano's Ristorante. In terms of Italian food in Topeka no one competes. This is obvious. The service? Nearly ruins it. Hold on for the jump if you want to know more. I've never liked Olive Garden, it's too corporate and their food always tastes like it has soap in it. Johnny Carrinos (now closed) was alright but their food was just not inspired. Sometimes, a corporate restaurant just gets beat by a local in every capacity. This is one of those places. I don't know why people go anywhere else. The salad is always perfect, the breadsticks always soft and warm and the lasagna is the best I've had. The Roman Twins? I swear it is an explosion of flavors in your mouth. Come before 11:30 for half price and order two, their that good. The service, on the other hand, is below par. The fiancee and I came here for half price and got treated with half care. We kept having to tell the wait staff to run down our waitress, constantly empty soda and then there was our appetizer fiasco. DO NOT ORDER THE BRUSCHETTA. It is cold, un-flavorful and easily one of their weakest dishes. It is sub par. We ordered it and between the two of us managed to eat ONE piece. Expecting good customer service we ere hoping the waitress would ask if something was amiss, nope. She came by two or three times and we didn't touch it. We then informed her that we didn't like it, and we were returning it. She simply took the appetizer, did not apologize and then did nothing about the bill. Sure, I suppose if I ordered it I will pay full price. Just don't expect a 20% tip. This experience is not uncommon, somehow the staff is super pretentious and acts like I am annoying them with my presence. Overall, Paisano's is a must go. I just wish their staff was a little more customer service friendly. Maybe I'll just get my next order to go.

Went here for lunch with some colleagues from work and had the Marco Polo. The almond cream sauce tasted cheesy and the chicken was extremely dry while on the other hand the broccoli was nicely steamed and pasta was firm. The salad was good but the bread sticks were a little sticky rather than fluffy. Service was good and fast. Overall a decent meal but nothing to write home about.

Very disappointing. Took a visitor from CA this weekend and her meal was burned. The waiter apologized and took it away. no replacement or attempt to remove the charge from our bill. When we spoke to the manager we mentioned the woman at the table next to ours ordered the same dish and her's looked completely different, like it should look. he said he would go back to the kitchen and look at ours. That was the last we saw of him. Bad move, you just lost customers. We have too many other options and refuse to pay for bad food and unconcerned management again.

Great local operated Italian. Monday is all you can eat pasta for $9.99. Includes bottomless salad and breadsticks.

Save your money. We're new to Topeka, and were looking for a local independent Italian restaurant. Simple, right? My wife's Italian, we're from Rhode Island, so we know seafood and Italian fare, and despite some sketchy Yelp reviews, we decided to give Paisano's a shot. The decor is old, dirty and dingy, the table was wobbly, but we were hungry and had high hopes for a good meal. Calamari appetizer - inedible breaded FISH fingers that they SWORE were calamari filets! (Like WE were the idiots!) Sent them back, had a laugh, but didn't lose hope. Salad Bowl and Breadsticks - shades of Olive Garden, except that the breadsticks were doughy and not fully cooked. Definitely not scratch made, our hope was fading fast. Taste of Italy - A 1-star threesome of Veal Parmesan (heavily breaded little 2oz filet), Lasagna (a soupy hamburger, sauce and cheese mixture best eaten with a spoon) and Fettuccini Alfredo (sauce from a can!) This was a recommended entree that went mostly un-eaten. Hope is almost lost! Veal Piccata - close...but, the chef forgot to cook the veal. Was served very rare, but it boxed up nicely and made a decent lunch the next day. Shame it was served with more of the Fettuccine Alfredo (?), so it went home alone. Well, there was room for dessert, so we shared the tiramisu. A winner, finally! Bottom line, encourage someone to open a decent Italian restaurant in Topeka and put this place out of it's misery. Anyone?

This is probably one of the best Italian places in the Topeka area. While the restaurant itself could use some good cleaning and updating, the food is generally amazing as well as the service. There was one time I was pretty disappointed in the staff because my fiance and I had ordered bruschetta as our appetizer -- It was COLD. Bruschetta should be served hot, or at least warm. My fiance stomached one piece, while I couldn't make it through even one. Our waitress did not care to ask if there was a problem when we told her she could take it away, nor was it removed from our bill. I don't feel like I should have to raise a huge stink about something like this -- If there's 6-8 slices of bruschetta on the plate and 1.5 are eaten, you should probably ask why. OK -- Now that I'm finished with that rant, I can continue with the GOOD aspects of this place. The roman twins are absolutely amazing. I love getting their sausage and tortellini (replace the original sauce with alfredo. It's delicious) and the free salad/breadsticks is always a plus. ALSO - They have an early bird special from 11:00-11:30, Monday-Friday. Early bird special entails half-off lunch entrees with the purchase of a beverage. You really can't beat that!

I've been to Paisanos years ago and remember it being pretty good. My recent visit was only so-so. The place definitely needs a good deep cleaning and a decor update. It is pretty dreary inside. The food was pretty good. I had the spinach artichoke ravioli and it was good, but nothing spectacular. The salad was decent but they put a lot of dressing on it. I did love their bread sticks. I know my companions all loved their meals as well, especially the pizza. The service is what seemed to be a bit lacking here. Our server was pretty friendly and knowledgeable, but that is where her good qualities ended. It took her a long time to greet our table and she disappeared for long periods of time during the meal. She brought incorrect items to the table. She was quite rude when we found a hair in one of our dishes (a hair we are fairly certain was hers). Also when she brought out our entrees she set down the two trays next to our table and then disappeared. Our food sat there staring at us, getting cold for several minutes, before she showed back up with drink refills for us. As a server I know hot food always takes priority. Give us our food and then worry about drinks. I'm hopping she was just having a scatter-brained off day. On a good note the manager did stop by to apologize and was very friendly and professional.

I'm going to assume we just had a poor experience here the day we went but...service and food were both awful!! Loved the ambiance! I think it was a coincidence that what we ordered was not good and our waiter was inappropriately defensive. Servers, not caring for the way our food came out is not a personal insult to you!!, Anyhow, I'll definitely go again and hope for a nicer experience. I think it's a place worth dining at for sure!! Pretty romantic vibe for a date night!!

Definitely my favorite place to get Italian food from here in Topeka. It has the beautiful interior design of a major chain restaurant but still holds a charm that says locally owned. The breadsticks are vastly superior to Olive Gardens, and on a good night I even prefer their salad. A good menu and decent prices, and the diverse beer selection factor pushes this establishment over the edge. The main dish items are good, not the best Italian I've had but still worth the trip. If you're looking for a romantic place to take a date I'd recommend here, as well as if you're looking for a local restaurant to bring your family from out of town.

My standby Italian place in Topeka, although both food and service can be somewhat spotty. Some nights the wait staff bugs you by checking on you too much. Other times, you can't find a waiter when you need one. But love the Sinatra tunes, the quiet booths and a great place for a romantic dinner. The foods is usually good, sometimes excellent. I wasn't that impressed with their pizzas, but their lasagna and baked mostecolli is tasty. I usually order something not on their regular menu, which is linquine with pesto and topped with Italian sausage. Some nights it is great, with fresh pesto, tasty olive oil and toasted pine nuts. Other nights the pesto is swimming in oil, the basil not noticeable and the pine nuts either not present or processed into oblivion. Their salad is usually great, but I find their breadsticks a little to salty for my liking. All in all, not a bad place, though I haven't been to Olive Garden enough to compare (I detest chains and like to support the home-town places).

Not the best Italian restaurant that I have been to. Like one of the other reviewers had mentioned, this place is sort of like going to Olive Garden, but not as good as they are. To start with, their menu selection was great if you wanted to eat pasta or pizza. But if you are trying to eat light, and have a healthy meal, then you are going to have a tough time finding anything on the menu. The only non-pasta/pizza dish that was on the menu was the grilled Salmon which came with a side of vegetables. Since I wasn't very hungry, I went with the soup and salad combo. They had 2 soups on the menu, the special of the day which was the chicken tortellini soup, and the usual minestrone soup. I went with the minestrone soup which was tasty, but it seemed to be lacking something. I also felt that the salad was a little bland as well. The dressing just didn't seem to have that kick that I usually get from the other Italian restaurants. The service was good, we were greeted by the waiter when we sat down, he took our order, and the food arrived a short period later. Only complaint I had was that the waiter did not keep tabs on our table regularly, and I had to wait for him to come by so that I could get my cup refilled, or get a refill on my bowl of soup. Prices seemed a little high, but not too extreme. My soup and salad with a soda ran about $11. Overall, the place was good, but I would not put it at the top of my list if I were to go out for Italian again.

The one word I think best describes Paisano's is consistent. I've eaten in both the Lawrence and Topeka locations and the food and service are always good but never great. But in this instance, it's fine because I don't expect much from the place. I consider it an independent version of Olive Garden. My chief complaint about the place is that they nickel and dime you when you split a meal and by forcing all at a table to chip in to cover the cost of the family-style salad, even if you really and truly won't be eating it.

Good God. I hate to say this, but Olive Garden has a better grasp on Italian food. Every dish that came to our table was smothered in cheese. Just like in Italy...right, moron?

We ate Paisano's recently for a special occasion, and really came away somewhat ambivalent. The food was not bad. It was actually pretty good, but the service was poor at best. We ordered a bottle of wine, and when the server brought it to the table, it was in two glasses. I pointed out that we had ordered a bottle of wine, and the server's response was that 2 glasses is a bottle. I begged to differ, and she brought out an empty bottle and held up the wine glass and said, "see, the wine glass is about half the size of the bottle. For the record the wine bottle was not the wine we ordered. After this exchange, the server sent another person to the table to drop off the check. I understand we are not at a 5 star restaurant, but most restaurants that are not out to screw the customer bring the bottle to the table, then pour it. I don't know if we got the wine we paid for, but it would be good practice to actually show the customer the bottle being opened and poured.

Everything was excellent, their salads are first rate, and their freshly baked bread sticks are the best I've ever eaten, EXCEPT: we ordered the calamari fritta appetizer and it was some kind of faux calamari, not the real thing, not even shaped like the real thing and it wasn't crispy. This needs to be re-thought.

I recently discovered this restaurant while in Topeka on business. It is some of the best I have had. If manners weren't important the guests would lick the bowls. Yum, yum one of my favorites!!

Excellent meal had on New Year's day. The place was dead as would be expected on this day, except for our group and another large group. Everyone's food was very good. Mine was excellent. I had a baked Mostacolli which was probably the best i have ever had, though it could use a little more seasoning. My wife had asiago and spinach ravioli, which she said was very good as well. Paisano's provides large dinner salads for your table to share as well as unlimited breadsticks. Both of these are excellent. The house wine was not very good, I should have had a nicer variety. The service was excellent. If I am in Topeka again and want Italian, i will certainly consider Paisano's.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
