Love this place, always have, always will. My favorites: Any of their enchiladas Their margaritas Tacos - soggy - get over it... they're amazing and meant to be that way The salsa and chips The queso Watching the Royals play on one of their many tvs It just doesn't get any better for a quick bite of Mexican food and a good dose of tequila. Not fancy, not healthy, but delightful in every way. Cheers amigos!

I have always had awesome experiences at Margarita's West; we usually dine there four times a month. The salsa and chips are plentiful, and the meals arrive promptly. They offer great daily deals (i.e. BOGO Beef Tacos on Tuesdays). The servers are friendly and hard-working; they are constantly on the move taking orders, bringing meals, refilling drinks. Everyone has different opinions on authentic Mexican cuisine, but Margarita's is my choice. Family favorites are their chicken tacos, fajitas, Durango, and tostadas.

If you like greasy, cheese covered, bland food then this is the place for you! I don't. The salsa is too sweet, even the "hot" salsa isn't hot. Their tacos come out soggy and when you pick them up, they fall apart. The puffy tacos at nearly $4 each aren't that special. The last 3 times I had the margarita dip it was cold. The chicken is dry, there is no seasoning on the beef and when I ordered the carnitas they were so greasy you could pour the liquid off the plate. My recommendation? Go across the street to Fronteras!

I had not been to this place for about six years -- It was just as amazing as I had recalled it being back then! This time I tried the #8 -- The Margarita Special. Instead of having to choose between the two cheese options that go over the burrito, our waitress offered to have each put both on the two halves. (Score!) It was AH-MAY-ZING!!! You should definitely try it. :)

Great food and service. I would definitely go again. Bartenders are cordial and polite.

This place is awful. I don't care which location you go to as I have tried the one in Liberty as well. Service is slow & my order is always wrong. I tried the steak soft taco tonight & it tasted disgusting. I didn't want to make a big deal about it in front of the friends I went with but I seriously should not have spent 9.00 on the meal. I would have had to complain if I had been with a different group as it was that bad. I will never step foot in there again & my friends won't either as they didn't seem impressed.

Mexican beer & domestic lites. Bleck! Off to a poor start. Hope the food is better than the meager selection of beers.

Some friends and I went here for a Taco Tuesday to celebrate a friend who is leaving for Denver soon. We traditionally do our Mexican business elsewhere but we hadn't tried Margaritas yet so we stopped in. The salsa and chips (rather intact half corn tortilla in crispy fashion) were good and plentiful. The cheese dip was also pretty delicious, evidenced by the fact that we went through two orders while we waited on the rest of our party to arrive. As for food, we each ordered our own entrees even though we had eaten a bunch of chips beforehand. I ended up with two cheese and onion enchiladas which they topped with their red sauce rather than their enchilada sauce because they weren't sure the enchilada sauce was gluten free. I wasn't surprised given that most other places' enchilada sauce isn't gluten free, so actually the red sauce was perfect and a bit lighter than the enchilada sauce from what I saw on other's plates. I liked the enchiladas a lot as they were cheesy and delicious. Other people at the table got tacos and cleaned their plates. My friend's taco salad was only half eaten and the quesadillas on the table were destroyed in quick fashion. Last, but not least, the margaritas were tasty. There were so many flavors. Watermelon and raspberry were our favorites. All in all, a good meal and good drinks though the service could use some work but perhaps that was just because it was incredibly busy.

I love this place! I have been going there for years. They make a few items exceptionally well. They're best items are puffy chicken or regular tacos, chicken enchiladas and margarita (white cheese) dip. I highly recommend the puffy chicken tacos. The puffy tacos are made with flour tortillas instead of corn. I am not a fan of any of their items made with ground beef. Their ground beef is bland. Not impressed with their nachos either. Fyi for you Coke drinkers, they serve Pepsi products.

Their food is good gringo tex/mex but the refried beans had a rock in them. A 1/4 inch rock that could have chipped a tooth! I took it out of my mouth and waited til the waitress came with the bill. I showed her the tooth and she picked it up, saying nonchalantly the vendor has been giving them the rocks in the beans. I was discrete and didn't want it comped. When leaving, she avoided eye contact. Left her 22% tip. Im never going in there again! Be careful chewing if you go.

Food is great, service is fast, prices are very affordable. Highly recommend the tamales, tostadas, and tacos.

I would much rather drive downtown in rush hour, than have to wait for the service at this location. The food is good, but the service is terrible! Have to wait to be greeted when you walk in, wait to be seated, wait for chips. No one is friendly! Have been there many times for love of the good, but every single time am disappointed with the service! And it wouldn't hurt them to clean the place every once and a while! Drive across the street for wayy better service and food!

Took a while to get seated (with tables open) but after we got service it was attentive. Food was tasty for tex mex. Chips and salsa are good! Try the hot salsa - good flavor and not overly spicy. Fried ice cream for the kids of course.

Awesome chicken fajita salad was different. Not your average salad from a Mexican joint. Cheap and easy to choose from the menu. Annoying service from the front door to the table. We were sat next to the bathrooms. Not my favorite spot. Bus/water boy kept delivering water with his thumb in my cup. I couldn't believe it. I drank the water though and I didn't die. Waitress obviously took a smoke break while we were actually hoping to get our check delivered. Salsa was bland. Chips were like half taco shells that were warm and fresh yet old and stale at the same time. It's confusing I know but if you try one you will be like, yeahhhh I get it. Not a fan. Worth the try. Won't be back. There are much better mexican food restaurants.

The food was awesome! From Southern California and am very picky about my Mexican food and I am a fan of Margarita's! Only bummer was that it got SUPER cold in there (after being pretty warm when we got in), and the staff didn't seem to try to accommodate or acknowledge customers' discomfort. Not a deal breaker, just putting it out there that they might want to get the thermostat reconfigured. I'll definitely be back though (maybe with a jacket next time).

Close to where I live, good parking, good service. I've always had a great here with others no matter what time of day. The food is pretty standard "Mexican food".

  • Jen J.

Service was great, food was okay... expensive for Mexican! Almost 6$ for ONE beef enchilada off the ala carte menu! Almost every thing costs extra to add including ordering your food with the (free) salsa on top (of a chimichanga)... actual margaritas are okay, very strong with poor quality tequila, tasted like rubbing alcohol. not impressed with quality except the margarita dip which is nothing more than watered down white cheese with onions tomatoes and spinach in it. But that is like crack anyways haha! Seriously though, won't be back.

The margarita dip (cheese dip) was amazing I loved it. The service was great. The salsa tasted great to we tried hot salsa it wasn't verey spicy but had a small kick to it and tasted good I went a second time because a fammily member wanted to and I let them. I didn't want Mexican food that had a small selection of non Mexican food which is fine I'm not saying that is a bad thing it's a Mexican restraunt. I got a cheese burger and it was funny the waitress didn't know they had cheese burger ls she said that in 1 month she had never served a cheese burger and I had a brand new never opens ketchup and mustard.

Tried this location since we've been a fan of the downtown location for years. Service was fast & friendly but the food was disappointing. Very bland and didn't taste fresh. We might try it again. Maybe it was just an off day.

I tried Margaritas for the first time last week. I was absolutely blown away. First, the service was amazing. I was seated right away and my server was extremely attentive, recommended drinks and food, and was prompt on delivering food. I went during happy hour and had a strawberry mango margarita! It was fantastic. They have a cheese dip called the Margarita Dip. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get it! The deep fried chicken taco reminded me of my favorite mom and pop shops back on the west coast. It was so great to finally find food that reminded me of home. Such a great experience. I can't wait to go back!

Good food and fast, friendly service. Reasonable prices. My favorite is "The Gringo" - deep fried tacos & Mexican rice. (I get double rice instead of refried beans.) A nice bonus is the Pepsi. Most places serve it flat and watered down, but not here. We eat here a couple times a month. Would highly recommend for lunch or dinner.

There is one thing here that is a must have...well...at very least one. The one thing I have people raving about from all over the country. That one thing is Margarita dip. It's like cheese dip meets heaven. Personally, I get the burrito with it smoothered on top. Their shrimp nachos are fantastic as well. Boulevard Wheat on tap, delicious margaritas...you can't go wrong with Margarita's!

I was sad when they closed their Martin City location, but was happy when they opened this location at 79th & Quivira. It's much closer to my house. I love their tacos, and what better time to enjoy them than when they're buy one, get one free. Every Tuesday is taco Tuesday, so while my wife is enjoying her chimichanga, quesadilla, burrito, or whatever, I'm stuffing my face with delicious Margaritas tacos.

A perfect place for lunch, three people got all they wanted for lunch for under $25.00, even took some home. Chips are fresh and good, salsa is constantly refilled.

We have loved Margarita's food for many years. Great salsa, great enchiladas, great tacos...I could go on and on. Recently I called to make a reservation for 20 on a weeknight. Although they don't officially take reservations, they were willing to work with me. When our group arrived, we waited less than 5 minutes. The server was great, the food was delicious, and they even gave us separate checks. Wonderful service!

I have two words for you: Taco Tuesdays. Can't even begin to count the number of times in my younger days my family went there with some friends and enjoyed their wonderful, albeit kind of greasy, tacos. Everything on the menu is good/great, and the chips and salsa are fantastic, and I hear the Margarita's are great.

Love their beef tacos-they are quite greasy and fried, but yummy. Wonderful salsa and chips. The Southwest Blvd. location is the best!

This review is surprising me too. Look Margarita's is pretty good Mexican food for the Gringos. I think most people would agree with that statement. It's a solid 3 stars and this location is convenient for me and yet I still don't frequent this place because there are so many other great Mexican places. What I am here to talk about is the breakfast. Apparently, only available at this location. Not sure when it started but it was a pleasant surprise. I locked onto the Mexican Omelet. Because I love Southwest style or Mexican Omelets and I have had a lot of them. Most of the time on the road and most of the time they are at best, average. Not this Omelet here. I absolutely loved the golden perfection of the Egg in the Omelet. Normally you get a light fluffly Omelet right? That's how I get them and how I make them. But the Golden Egg Omelet with the Chorizo was fantastic. I am going to go back again and again to try it and hopefully I will figure out how to make it myself! Seriously, the breakfast is worth trying there based on this experience. Oh and they had a Formula One race on the television there. I'm a Formula One nut and had never walked into any bar in the US with a Formula One race on the television. Of course this race was broadcast on Fox this time and not Speed. So just a coincidence I suppose. Go for the Breakfast on Sundays!

Always the same...GOOD! I like consistency. Knowing that you can go 2 or 3 times a month and it will always be good is one of the best things about any restaurant. Love the tacos and the giant burrito that's covered in cheese sauce. Sad that the Martin City location is gone but, it's worth the drive to Lenexa.

Wow, I'd been by Margarita's several times and there were always a lot of cars in the lot. Once I stopped in and it was so crowded I decided to go somewhere else. I expected something at least decent. Plus, several years ago now, I'd been to the one on SW Blvd and remember it being pretty good. What a disappointment. A friend and I went in for lunch, and I have to say it was pretty bad. I opted for the $5.99 mini-chimi lunch special. I was a little worried about just how mini this chimi was going to be but saw that it was usually $6.89 on the al a carte menu so I figured it coudnt be too small. It came with rice and a drink. If you want beans $2.39 more. Sour cream you say? $0.89. Diced onions? $0.59. Onions, yes. I should have taken the upcharges as a bad sign but sill, I went on. Well, I guess I should have asked the waitress about the size of the chimi after all. It came out and was literally about 4 large bites with a mound of rice that wasn't even as good as something out of a Rice-a-Roni box. Later I heard the waitress explain to the table behind us that the mini-chimi on the a la carte menu was actually full size, but that the one with the lunch special was indeed mini. Oh well. It didn't matter anyway because the flavor wasn't very good either. Needless to say, I don't plan on returning to Margarita's anytime soon. I'd much rather go to Fontera's across the street or Mi Ranchito anytime.

I have been here for dinner before, and I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican food, but I didn't think this was one of the few exceptions that make me rethink my Mexican food-aversion, and those restaurants are out there. I went with husband and in-laws for BREAKFAST this morning. I love breakfast food. When I wake up at 11, I still want breakfast, not lunch. I like breakfast that you couldn't confuse for lunch. So it was not my choice to go here. I was not impressed with the selection of food for breakfast. They open at 9am, but everything was more of a savory, quite filling variety. Look at the menu yourself, but not wanting actual Mexican food for breakfast, my only choice was to get pancakes. I could also get an egg off the a la carte menu, which I did. Service wasn't great either. I think if my in-laws want to go to breakfast again THERE, I'll just get "sick", rather than sit through such a mediocre breakfast again. Tortillas are NOT a substitute for toast. But if you are still interested, apparently on the first Sunday of the month, it's buy one get one free for breakfast.

Pretty decent Amexican food. If that's what you're looking, this place will get the job done.

This restaurant has moved out of the dungeon on Johnson Drive and now sits where a Hardees used to. Okay, I think it was Freddie's Mexican Restaurant or something like that between Hardees and Margaritas. Here's the deal, I don't really think that Margaritas is that awesome or anything, but it's pretty consistently good. Their Queso dip will always remind me of my childhood. And it's pretty delicious. They have these crispy chicken tacos that are delicious, and, were probably my first foray into Mexican food besides Taco Bell and Taco Via. So Margaritas, sentimental favorite. They now offer fish tacos. Which, believe it or not are pretty decent. Blackened tilapia and mango salsa. Also, they now offer authentic mexican tacos with soft corn tortillas, cilantro and onion. Haven't had them, but I imagine they are pretty okay. I think the location change is a really great improvement. The dungeon, where this location used to be, always seemed not quite clean. Or sanitary. And kind of seemed like a fire hazard. And, oh oops, they actually had a fire there once. Kind of scary. This new location is bright and airy, and features a patio which is where I am sure I will spend a couple of nights this summer sipping on some margaritas.

Good quality chips and salsa for appetizers. Chips are light and fresh. The hot salsa was pretty good. The server was slow in getting us refills. I got a mini-chimichanga with beef. It was alright. Nothing great but nothing to complain about either. I added some fried jalapeno to it which made it better. An extra 90c for sour cream is a little steep, and they didn't give me that much really.

This Margarita's Location has closed and relocated to Quivera and 78th or so. The food is always great at Margarita's, and the kitchen is usually willing to make adjustments to ingredients even though a lot of it comes pre-made (eg. no onions in an enchilada). The new location is larger than it's previous one, and is better for larger groups.

Best Gringo Mexican in KC hands down. Both their mild and hot salsas are great. Tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, tostadas, are all mouthwatering My favorite combo is the Baja with queso blanco added to the side. SW Blvd location is the best, but the Johnson Drive location is a close 2nd.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
