The list of restaurants near 66227 is expanding! Great lunch deals and yummy salsa - doesn't taste at all like the normal salsa in a jar from your mainstream Mexican restaurants. Even during peak lunch hour, this place doesn't get crowded - not sure why if it's because people don't know about it or because people don't like it? Either way, it's good for me.

I am a huge mexican food fan, and I am pretty picky when it comes to choosing the places to eat at,and I was NOT disappointed with Xtapa! My boyfriend and I had a great experience would recommend this place to anyone!

Great food, great prices! Clean restaurant. Nice bar and friendly staff. Right off of k-7 and Johnson dr. Fresh salsa. Their chimichangas and burritos are the best. This restaurant doesn't get very busy even during peak times. Lots of connected booth/table seating for large groups.

Not happy. My family and I went here for dinner. We left after having chips and salsa (the salsa had a foreign non-food object in it). When we informed the wait staff and manager they made no attempts to rectify the situation. We were disappointed in the lack of customer service or concern for cleanliness.

I have tried to eat here several times. Unfortunately the service has been slow and food is ok. They are very nice but not a place I would go back to again.

Let me first start with the positives. Their chips and salsa along with their queso was pretty good. I love chips & salsa and so I that made my trip bearable. Now for the bad.....the service was terrible to say the least and the carne asada burrito was a culinary nightmare! I may give this place one more try just to make sure it wasn't a fluke

Don't confuse this one for the Ixtapa up by the KC Airport. It's not the same company. That said, it's not bad either. If I'm in the area and am hungry, this is my stop. But I won't go out of my way again to go there. Good service, clean, reasonable prices.

Seriously, can we get a descent Mexican restaurant in West Shawnee?! Or any non-bland food out here. Sorry, Ixtapa just isn't worth it.

We've been to Ixtapa several times and have always enjoyed it. We've had great service and the food was good. My gf always has several special request due to dietary restrictions and they did a great job with our orders.

Everything was solidly average. Mediocre service and food but, then again, there are very few food options in Western Shawnee so it's to be expected.

Clean restaurant, chips and salsa good, food was very bland and did not have much flavor. Ordered the burrito and tostada and enchiladas, all were very bland like there was no seasonings used.

We did take out so this is based off food only. Cheese dip was probably the best thing out of our entire meal. With that being said the cheese dip was average. Salsa tasted like a can of tomatoes. We took one taste and threw it to the side. We each got a beef/chicken tostada. The shells were of course soggy when we got it home but managed to salvage it. The beef had no flavor. The chicken were in huge chunks and DRY!

Oh boy. Having grown up in San Diego, I know Mexican food done right. Ixtapa does not even come close. If I were to write this review based on the decor and the friendly staff, I would give Ixtapa five stars. But the food does not measure up. I ordered a chile relleno and a cheese enchilada. The chile relleno was not battered like it is supposed to be. It looked and tasted like it had just been dipped in scrambled eggs & fried. The enchilada sauce and beans tasted canned, and the tortillas were probably the ones you buy at the grocery store (it is NOT hard to make your own tortillas). I guess what I'm trying to say is, I could easily have made the meal at home with a can opener and a hot pan. Sorry Ixtapa.

This place is TERRIBLE. It is over priced & easily the WORST Mexican food that I have ever had. STAY AWAY!

Had a Groupon for this joint so we fired up the Caddy and blew out to the Far West. I put on the GPS and God Love It All...we got lost. To be honest though, I must admit, I think it was operator-error (my fault). Once we got our bearings, we found the restaurant nestled in one of those typically suburban shopping areas on the other side of a round-about. First, the service was very good. We were met at the door immediately and ushered to a booth. A young man came and greeted us with a smile and took our drink order and left us some chips and salsa. We looked over the menu and I ordered Camarones a la crema. My companion had a couple of tacos and an enchilada. We didn't have to wait a long time and it was nice and quiet on a Sunday afternoon so we got to relax a bit, munch on some chips and sip our softdrinks. The camarones (shrimp) were cooked in a sour cream-like sauce. I think this is called crema fresca. I liked the flavor but I found the shrimp to be slightly undercooked. That gives me the heeby-jeebies. But, I did manage to polish most of it off. My companion said, "where do these places buy their meat?" He didn't care for the texture or flavor of the taco meat (ground beef). He said it was dull. The beans and rice were good. We did have some guacamole and it was VERY good with nice chunks of avacado and seasoned just right. Really enjoyed that. Awright kidz! Don't care for the location. Too far away from where we live but People in DeSoto gotta eat Mexican food too. So, that's not a bona fide issue. The service was impeccable. Friendly and Attentive. Nice people. The food...I've had better and closer to where I live. We just went out there because of the Groupon. However, we are out that way off and on so it's not to say I would never eat there again. That's absolutely not true. It's just that there are so many better places...well, it's probably not going to happen any time soon.

We eat here on a regular basis. Jessie is the owner...he is always very happy and accommodating. The margaritas are fabulous, the white cheese dip is my favorite & the entrees are always fresh. If you don't like something, they will take it back with a smile and help you find something else.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
