I love this place. I guess it's connected to Sol Azteca. I tend to always order a tamale at a Mexican restaurant because it seems like they're something that's difficult to get right. Dos Reales has delicious tamales. In the throes of morning sickness I happily ate their carne asada tacos one night. They're simple - loaded with meat and sprinkled with a hefty load of fresh cilantro on corn tortillas. They brought me some fresh lime slices to squeeze over the top and they were fantastic. White cheese dip is delicious - plain and cheesy. Fajitas are different than any I've ordered before. Everything's very caramelized - a huge pile of meat loaded with peppers and onions. More than enough to share with another. There's a particular plate I enjoy which is enormous and weird. I can't remember the name of it but it's a plate of "nachos." It has ground beef on one side, chicken on the other. Lots of cheese, guacamole, sour cream, etc but buried in the middle is a tamale. Yum - but way too big for a single meal and not so good leftover. Delicious rice but a bit on the salty side.

This place is great. I really should vote it 4 stars but I'm tired of it not being 4 average... So it gets a 5. My wife and i go here at least twice a month. If you want to be totally shocked try the burrito bravo ... It is muy grande and very tasty. Also try the verde burrito ( green chilli sauce). For great fajita style try the aculpoca bay or fajita steak tacos ... Amazing. And Tuesdays is buy one get one free tacos. Try the pork and the shrimp tacos. We always spend less than $30 here even with alcohol and we always have leftovers for the next day. We have even turned the burrito bravo into 3 meals before! Hard to beat.

I usually get the baked chimichanga, but this time I ordered the Chipolte Burrito with chicken. The second choice was way more flavorful...great sauce. Chips are OK. Go for the chunky salsa rather then the smoother version. Cheese dip is bland, so I usually mix it with the salsa. Love the giant glasses of fizzy diet coke, Decor is quirky. It is decorated in a style that looks more like it is an Americans version of Mexico rather then a true Mexico feel. However, it is very spacious and the bathrooms are very clean. Nothing really stands out on the interior. That's fine, I don't come here for atmosphere. My bigger concern is always the cleanliness of the establishment and this place feels squeaky. For what you get, it is a good value. Fast reasonable Mexican food with very efficient service. In fact, the waiter was at our table so often, that I grew suspicious. You will never have to wait for anything. It's reliable, fast and good.

My other gripe is that our waitress, while very nice forgot to put in our order of Cheese Dip and completely disappeared after she took our order. So I sat without a refill for the entire meal and ended up drinking my wifes beverage. The food was good enough for a second chance, but until then I'm sticking with my 3 stars.

I was impressed my first visit, the second, not so much. First time, ever. We are seated, our waiter brings our drinks, we order. I excuse myself for a few minutes, and when I get back, theres a huge plate of food sitting there waiting for me. I had no idea what I had ordered turned out to be the largest amount of food on their menu, for less than $10. I just thought it had a good variety of different things to try for my first visit. The plate was searing hot, and everything was delicious except for the Chile Relleno. I just didn't like the sauce on it, at all. I took one bite and set it aside. Second visit, yesterday. I ordered the #15. One Burrito, one Enchilada and a Tamale. Again, the food arrives within a matter of a few minutes of ordering. Again, a mountainous amount of food for the price. Again, searing hot plate full of what I expected to be delicious food. Instead, I got overcooked ground beef in both the Burrito and Enchilada, an overly bready pork tamale. All of which were flavorless. The person I took with me had the Burrito Azteca, she said it was absolutely wonderful. Again, hit and miss kind of place, maybe worth trying. Great prices, very fast service.

The Food at Dos Reales is really good. My favorite is going there on Tuesday for Tacos because they have a special buy one get one free. Their tacos are fantastic. The only problem I've had there is with their staff. It's happen to me three times that I've ordered something not exactly like it is on the menu and they screwed it up every time. On one instance we explained to the manager and when the food came beck it was still not what we wanted. In short, stick to the menu and you'll be fine.

Love the fresh salsa and the chips are nice and crispy. For dinner my date got a combination platter with a chicken burrito, chicken taco, and beans and rice. I got the green chicken enchiladas. Both of us cleaned our plates. I will say though that the communication barrier was really steep. I am gluten-free by way of allergy and when I asked about my dish (which I was 95% sure would be fine to eat as is) I was told the whole entree had gluten in it. I was flabbergasted and immediately concerned about everything I had already eaten that I was pretty sure was fine. I fumbled trying to find a new entree and eventually amid this a manager who spoke English walked by and I was able to ask him the GF question. He told me that everything was fine with that dish so I took him at his word and I didn't get sick, so clearly things were fine. Its just really hard to be confident when you're getting such mixed messages and I'm sure its just a language barrier deal. Nobody's fault but just a bit nerverackig for those of us with allergies trying to be conscious.

Located in strip mall off of Quivira and 75th. We stopped here because I had to make a trip to JoAnne. We were initially greeted at the door and directed to our booth. The first woman who attended to us was unfriendly and seemed to be preoccupied. She did bring us our drink order quickly and brought menus. The second woman who attended to us was much more pleasant, attentive and professional. When our orders came out, a pleasant young man delivered them but my order was incorrect and had to be sent back. I believe this was due to the fact that the first server was preoccupied about something and not paying mind to our orders. The second server was very apologetic and my order came out perfectly. I had the cazuelada and it was remarkable. A mixture of shrimp, carne asada, chicken, chorizo served with sour cream, pico, rice and beans and tortillas...it was enough for two people and I took some of it home. Not to dwell on the initial bad service, the experience turned out well and I'm sure we will be back again.

I normally have great things to say about this place! Today was a little different. It took us longer than normal to be seated. We just kinda stood there awkwardly for about 5 minutes and it seemed that no one in sight was going to come greet us for awhile. Once we were seated, I gobbled up the chips and salsa. I LOVE their salsa! Eventually I ordered the shrimp tacos, but ended up being served fish tacos. I still ate them, so I can't complain that much. Anyway, hoping for a better experience next time.

Pretty bleh. I ordered the taco, burrito, enchilada combo and all three items came sloppy in a container. I couldn't tell which was which. Bland flavor. Go to Fogones down the street.

Good service and nice atmosphere with good prices and drinks. Tacos are good but enchiladas and rellenos are sorely lacking. Sauce is more like spaghetti than enchiladas.

We met some friends here for dinner last night and had a nice experience. Our server quickly realized that the four of us had lots of catching up to do so she provided good service without hovering and gave us lots of time to talk. My wife and I each had two margaritas and, with two entrees our bill was under $34. With a nice tip, we were out the door for just under 40 bucks. Servings were large and the food was tasty.

One more star for Dos Reales. It's not your traditional mexican fare. I don't expect that and never will from this restaurant. However, it is consistently good, hot, and fast. Three things I like a lot and in that exact order too. The chunky salsa is the best. It's fresh and spicy. So I'll give them another star because I know that I can count on them to give me a solid meal every time.

Wow, I am surprised there are not more reviews for this place. I think it's the best Mexican food in town* and I eat a lot of Mexican. I actually make myself go to other places so that I don't get burnt out eating here too often. Their strength is in whatever they do to cook the meats. The chimichanga's (beef or chicken) are totally awesome. I'd also recommend their fajita tacos or a dish called the Acapulco. It's similar to fajitas beef, chicken and shrimp, but grilled, and with a slightly different sauce. I just realized this is not much of a review, but I guess I'm not good at describing awesome. Just try for yourself, you won't be disappointed. **Steve's favorite Mexican restaurants in KC (The old favorites) IN ORDER Dos Reales 5 Ponaks 4 Mannys 4 Salty Iguana 4 Margarita's 3.5 not on their level, but Mi Ranchito is pretty good too, and I go often, since it's basically next door to where I live.

I'm surprised this place only had 3 stars. I come here fairly often and always leave satisfied. The place is pretty big so we always get a seat right away. Once sat, the chips and salsa are usually pretty fast to be delivered to the table. Their salsa has a great flavor, not the disgusting marinara tasting salsa that a lot of places have. Service is usually good, but can be hit or miss. It's never been horrible service, but just something to keep in mind. I'm typically more concerned with the food anyway.. Although I usually only stick to a few items that I like, the things I do get are always fresh and tasty and always come out lickety-split fast. I typically go for the Burrito Chipolte. Awesome with the side of sour cream is comes with. They don't skimp on the chicken either, so it's quite a big portion. Rice is pretty good, and the beans are...well..beans. How good can beans be?

This place had it's hit and misses. Service was fast. Maybe too fast. Roomie ordered carne asada tacos. Tortillas could of use a little more heat so they wouldn't break apart. I got nacho supreme minus sour cream. It had almost burnt chips and more beans than anything. They get an A for the salsa and F for the tomato sauce (do people really request this?). When I asked for more, I was brought both again. Even though you could clearly see which one was getting eaten. The Horchata was wonderful. I may come back just for cups to go. I felt the food was over priced and way too big of portions. When will American restaurants stop with the humongous plates? Half a bill and half a plate would have been just fine. "Someone hand me a kiddie menu..."

I am a regular at this place. My wife and I go here typically at least once a week. Service is usually pretty great with gaps here and there but consistently good. Their cheese sauce is always great to start the meal off. Taco Tuesday is fantastic if you want cheap but delicious food. Their meals are great tasting and big portions, as well well priced. My favorite is the fish tacos. On a side note the restaurant itself is nice and is made out to have fun feel with a large fountain inside. They also have a side room that would be great for a large group although I have never used it, many times I have seen people there enjoying themselves. One of my favorites.

My wife craves Mexican food! She could eat it every day if she could. We were out and about looking at houses when my wife says, 'We *have* to get Mexican food today.' I came across this gem when looking for Mexican in the area and we were not disappointed. The first thing I noticed about DOS Reales is the space. Maybe it was because they had the doors open to seat people outside due to the nice weather, but this place felt open and spacious. I liked it! We were sat quickly and got our menus and chips and salsa. The chips were served warm, which is a bonus. There were two salsas served. I asked the server which was the spicier one. She said that they weren't really spicy to her, but the chunkier one had chunks of jalapeno, so that might be it. She was correct in that the chunkier salsa was the spicy. My wife stuck with the smoother salsa, which was good. I even tried it. Not too shabby. Of course, we had to order the cheese sauce, which was superb! Cheesy with a little bite. Very nice. For our entrees, she got the chicken chimichanga, her usual test meal. I went waaay off my normal and got pollo con mole. Both were excellent! The chicken was really good. The beans were tasty and my wife liked the rice. There was more on the plate than we could eat. 2 chimis on the plate for my wife and lots of chicken smothered in mole sauce on mine. Good food and filling. My only ding, but not costing a star, was that when we were done, it took a while for the server to come by. It was a slow Sunday afternoon and she and another server were sitting in a booth chatting. I had to make eye contact with her to let her know we were ready for boxes and the ticket. This wasn't bad enough to sour me on this place. Excellent place! One worth revisiting to try more items on the menu.

I love Dos Reales. Servers are always gracious and helpful. . .always. The food? Well, I can always find something with salsa verde here, unlike some other Mexican places. They have great lunch specials and daily margarita specials. I prefer this location over the other based on overall environment. This one is more spacious and has fancier decor. Primarily, this one has fountains and the other one doesn't. This particular day I brought my daughter to celebrate her 21st birthday. I uploaded a video.

Not my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant, not the worst either. It has gotten better over the last couple of years. My favorite dishes include Enchiladas Rancheras, Carnitas, & Habanera. The chips and salsa are wonderful! Thin chips and two kinds of salsa (chunky medium and smooth mild.) Sadly there is no hot salsa. They have good guac, and their cheese dip is pretty good as well. In the Spring and Summer, they have an "open air" seating area that is half in, half outside. Interesting.

Really good. I love this place and It is my go to mexican resturant. Chips and salsa are the best, always fresh. The service is outstanding I've been many times and always had attentive waitstaff. I really like the shrimp tacos, they are always well prepared and reasonably priced for shrimp in kansas. You can expect good portions here, not the cheapest place around (by no means expensive) but it is the best value for your money. Also, I know that this company is involved in the local community, which for me is a huge plus.

Dos Reales has a permanent spot in my heart. The food is consistently great - especially the tacos on Taco Tuesday. It's basically a dollar a taco for dinner. Way better than anything you can find anywhere else! So far, the nachos are my favorite thing I have gotten here. They are simply authentic and a little bit divine. On top of that, the service is always warm, friendly and fast. The also serve up some great margaritas! Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

I love the atmosphere here. Large restaurant with brightly colored walls, Mexico-style decor and an indoor fountain. The service is friendly and fast and they always have great specials. Margaritas are tasty too! Have had the regular queso, spinach dip, and ay chihuahua, all great. My husband always gets the burrito bravo, which he loves. A friend gets steak fajitas, also good. I have had the enchiladas suizas - not my favorite. Too cheesy (I never even though that was possible?!) but the pound of melted queso on top of the strong Swiss cheese flavor was too much. Guadalajara Special was ok if you like lots of fried food. Tamale and nachos were good, deep fried flautas were too bland and over-fried. Tacos de carne asada are awesome - love the fresh flavor of corn tortillas, cilantro and onion. My go-to favorite is the Habanera - roasted pulled pork cooked with green peppers, onions, and tomatoes topped with cheese sauce and served fajita style with tortillas. AWESOME and perfect flavor combo! Pork is good enough to eat all by itself. Rice and beans here are both good and come with most meals. I find it hilarious that they have a menu section titled "Healthy Salads." Judging from the descriptions, they are not healthy whatsoever as they come served in a fried tortilla shell. But I am sure they are just as tasty as all the other food here. Whenever I am craving Mexican, this is the spot!

This place can be hit or miss. Food is typically always good. Portions are large. Prices are good. Retried beans seem to be very runny. I do not care for their carnitas. Cheese queso is pretty good. Salsa is great! Service can be very relaxed so do not go there is you need to be somewhere. On more than one occasion I have had to hunt down someone to get my ticket and pay. This place is "just okay, decent food but cheap"

How dare they call themselves "Authentic Mexican Food"? When I ordered a Guacamole appetizer, and they brought me store pre-packaged guacamole??? And it was $4. The tacos stunk of old oil and the carne asada had an awful flavor. I asked if they had a hotter salsa than what they usually serve, and the waiter was kind enough to go to the kitchen to whip a really hot salsa (very good by the way), so that was a plus. The food is over priced, I'd had a bad experience at that place before so I decided to write a review this time, I hope they either change their name to just "Dos Reales" and drop the "authentic Mexican food", or they step it up a bit and get their act together or I don't see how this place will succeed selling pre packaged guacamole.

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in the Kansas City area. I was really hungry so the menu was overwhelming-is that a bad thing? I ordered the lunch beef fajitas and every bit of it was amazing. Fresh ingredients and no cheap cheese melted all over everything like so many "Mexican" places. My husband had some combo, he ate every bite but that means nothing, sorry, he eats every bite everywhere. Even the chips they gave us as a starter were great and the chunky salsa was delicious. Thanks for a great lunch, we'll be back next time we are down in that area.

Dos Reales is a solid choice for Johnson County Mexican food. I came here a couple nights ago - my first time back in a couple years after my stint in Florida. The food was great - I had the Chile Verde Burrito and left with plenty of leftovers. They also have daily specials, and I had the night's Johanna Margarita. The drink had tamarindo for a sweeter, citrusy taste, and was rimmed with chili salt. Delicious. Our server was pleasant and helpful, and our food came quickly. My only complaint is that they only have two salsas with the pre-meal chips: chunky and smooth. Neither is hot enough, but I did get my fix from the Habanero hot sauce on the table.

This place is my 2nd favorite Mexican joint in KC. I've only been there for lunch but every time the service has been quick and the food really good. Judging by how busy it has been every time I have been there it seems most would agree.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

My family and I visit Dos Reales frequently. Prices are good, and the food is great. Their white cheesedip- queso- is incredible. We order it every time we go- usually multiple bowls. My favorite menu item is the camarones al mojo de ajo, which is basically garlic shrimp served with rice and avocado slices. We've been going to Dos Reales for years, and I'd say 95% of our experiences have been good. The service is decent; not incredible, but almost all the servers do a great job. The price range and wide selection on the menu are two wonderful features- even someone as picky as I am can find something to love on the menu. If you go, get the queso as an appetizer! Even if you hate the entrées, you'll keep coming back for the queso.

Great service! Came here for dinner and had the carne asada tacos and they were delicious. The service was great we had multiple servers get us refills, I will definitely be making a trip back here!

Their service was friendly and fast. Their mango daiquiris are very delicious. Good value for your money.

I love their chips and salsa, especially the chunky salsa. I've tried many different dishes and they have all been delicious! We keep coming back!!!

Obsessed with this place. Dont think I have ever had anything bad here. And I am not the kind of person to go there once and think I am qualified to write a review on it. Ive been coming here since they have opened!

It's hard to beat Taco Tuesday's. Consistantly tasty and 2 people can eat for under $20 including a beer. Love their guacamole.

Great food, nice ambiance, and good price. I recommend the fajitas for two - excellent deal.

Chicken enchiladas with pablano sauce was very complex and interesting. My oldest son had the Habanero, pork with cheese sauce and liked it a lot.

Good food, but lunch menus are overpriced. It should be $5 to 7 for this amount of food.
