I just had a revelation! After reading a comment here about stinky truck drivers and my having a family allow their youngsters to run amok around a booth next to me, I've decided that one way to not have that happen again would be to delay my much needed shower until after I dine, thus disuading the inconsiderate parents from parking their brood near me. Food and service was good here. Not really impressed by the buffet offerings but I'm more of a menu person anyway.

I thought the food was terrible, my omelette was burned and the veggies were raw. The server was very friendly so that part of the visit was good.

Pretty decent diner located inside a truck stop. We stopped here for a late night dinner while on the road. This place definitely caters to the "traveler." I'm reminded by a quote from "City Slickers." "The food is hot, brown, and plenty of it." I had the chicken club and my wife had the BLT. Yeah, were fans of bacon. Well, it's a good thing because both sandwiches came with a LOT of bacon on them. The sandwiches were good and only made better by the slabs of crispy, tasty pork belly. The chicken in my sandwich was tender, juicy and had great flavor. The fries on both plates were hot, crispy......they're FRIES. I can't complain at all about the food. Service was good, friendly and prompt. What knocks the star value down, understandably, is it's in a truck stop. The atmosphere is "dive'ish" and the cleanliness is less than ...... clean. But, again, it's understandable and doesn't take away from the good food. We probably won't ever be back this way again and that's a shame...... I'm already jonesing for more of that bacon!

Don't order the country fried steak. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't $14 worth of good. It's advertised as hand breaded, but it's not. It is pretty big, but not at all worth the price tag.

You know how sometimes you choose the "hole in the wall" restaurant over the chain restaurant in the hopes that you'll have something fabulous & different? Yeah, that DIDN'T happen here. I had such high hopes as I travel across the country. It has an old fashioned feel, but the tables were dirty & the seat cushions are loose from the benches. The food was mediocre at best (i had the French toast"feast" & my beau had the Denver omelet), served to us at a lukewarm temperature. The service was bordering on horrible as our hostess Rhiann felt more cheery at other tables & I think I know why, I forget sometimes that racism still exists in America. I don't recommend it, there's an Ihop just down the road, go there.

Good food. Could be cheaper. Helpful hostess. Open 24 hrs. Nice to get gas and food like this all in one place. You can order to go. Offers breakfast all the time.

Stinky truckers, sorry guys. Buffet was over $11 and consisted of fried chicken, ham, salted shredded beef, and poached seasoned fish of some sort. Mash potatoes were powdered. Hot veggies for the evening were canned peas. Two kinds of gravy. Salad bar had a bunch of available toppings and pasta salad. Desserts were blueberry muffins, some sort of peach cobbler, cheesecake. Regular menu items used same ingredients from buffet.

I can't tell you how many cigarettes smoked or cheese sticks and coffee ingested at Grandma Max's in my 20's. There may not even be a number that high yet. We stopped through for breakfast and to bond with truckers and look at creepy dolls. Every time I come here the clientele gets better, from the lady with the prosthetic eye who would show anyone to the occasional contestant taking on the Big Max. (A four pound burger you finish in an hour.) Today I had to have the club wrap. Pretty standard, everyone in the party had some sort of Midwestern lunch. Chicken strips, a burger and my wrap. We all agreed the fries had a certain something, well done and crinkly like the fries from our past. Grandma Max's is now non-smoking but it does have all the old faves, fried egg sandwiches, an "ethnic" section of the menu including nachos and spaghetti and some decent entrees and "updated" items like sliders. It always seems to be a welcome stop on I-70, a break from the flatness of Kansas.
