The atmosphere & decor is def just part of the way it's always been, not something you update! One of the best filets I've had anywhere & my boyfriend swears by the chicken fried steak. Always pleasant staff & food comes hot & fast. It's an icon in this little town & the kind of the place you remember coming to as a kid & keeping coming back.

Decided to come to Pittsburgh for dinner because I was staying in Fort Scott and wasn't much there. After reading some reviews about this place my coworker and I decided to check it out. Man were they spot on! Had the onion rings which were fantastic. The large size is enough for a family of 4, possibly more. Then had the sirloin tips and expected a small portion but when the plate came out I was trying to figure out how I was gonna eat all! I asked for steak sauce and quickly found out there was no need. Glad I made the decision to eat here. Don't pass up on this great place with great atmosphere and food.

The drive from KC is well worth our trip! Yes I agree it is outdated, needs a good dusting, & it is a little bit worn. I eat here for the food! Started with the small (but huge) order of onion rings. They were hot and fresh as usual. Went with the 14 oz sirloin tips. ($15) I added a dash of the "Jim's steak seasoning" and devoured a few pieces. I swear I could eat these without any teeth as they were so tender. I could only eat half of my loaded baked potato. Kaylee did a great job being attentive & providing great service. The food here would challenge any high end steak house in big cities.

Warning... The portions are HUGE! The onion rings were awesome but more like onion straws. The sirloin tips portion was also huge! I added onions, which was the equivalent of an entire onion! The tips are the most bang for your buck. Very tender and juicy.

This is a well known steakhouse in the SE Kansas area. It has huge Chicken Fried Steaks and is most known for their steak tips. It's a bit pricy and a line can start forming about 30 minutes before opening or more. It all depends on if it's a weekend or holiday. I have eaten there many times with my family over the years.

We walked into this place with 32 people at 9pm on Saturday night (we're in town for a baseball tournament)... And they didn't skip a beat when we showed up on the late side with a large group. Good service, very good steaks - they have an unbelievable cheeseburger - the Texas burger! The waitress and her helpers got a little flustered but they figured it out. I'd recommend this place for a large group or a family meal. It's an old school country steakhouse. Not fancy but well kept and clean.

Unfortunately I wasn't very happy with my first visit so I probably won't be returning. It smelt like a dirty shoe and the vents in the eating area were covered in dust, I never pay attention to things like that but it was really hard not to notice. Service was ok but had to wait 10 minutes on our ticket and it wasn't that busy. The Ribeye was good, texture was strange but it was cooked right. It's really important to make a welcoming and happy atmosphere and it was out dated and depressing... Dark and to quite need to try playing some music low or something.

Meat is very Good. But everything else is low budget. Fake butter, sour cream and cheese cost extra for your potato & comes in a little plastic tub. Salad is from a bag and salad dressing comes in a plastic tub. For a $25.00 dinner you expect more.

This review isn't about the food. The food is fine. The ATMOSPHERE needs HELP. The tables are only spaced 2 feet apart from each other. So you get to hear everything the other patrons are saying as well as them hearing you. Very uncomfortable. Also the songs that were being played were very strange for an old historic steak house. KISS, Bee Gees, and then John Denver. WTF? Try Sinatra or Jazz or really old country like Hank Sr. and such.

Great little old style classy restaurant with great steaks for the area and fried foods to boot, quaint little lounge/bar to chill in as well. Get the tips covered in onions and mushrooms with a basket of fries!

I'd give it 3 stars for the meat and potatoes but the rest of the experience..1. so, I averaged it to 2 stars. I went here with my boyfriend, almost 10pm..so I could see why the service wasn't "great" because everyone was wanting to go home. But, other people came in behind us and the restaruant was full! The side salad I got had a hair in it. I no longer complain about this sort of situation because it can happen to anyone. I just told the waitress and she traded it for apple sauce but I only had a few bites. Once we got the steak and baked potatos we ordered the food was pretty good. Not spectacular but, for a little steak house in Pittsburg, it was good.

I don't live here but I eat at Jim's every chance I get. It's a local secret that a local friend turned me on to. I've eaten $100+ steaks in Vegas and nothing is as good. Hands down the best steaks anywhere. They are aged steaks that will rock your taste buds. The sirloin tips are always cooked perfect with perfect flavor and oh so tender. The fillet and cheese burger are excellent too if you in the mood for those but the tips are my favorite. The onion ring appetizer is alway awesome. I can't believe that this place isn't 5 star.

My second time eating here. While the decor is seriously dated and the wait staff is reminiscent of an assisted living facility, the steak is superb! I come back every time I am in town. My favorite: bottom sirloin tips with blue cheese, onions and mushrooms. OMFG!

Come here every once in a while. Service was average at best. The tips were awesome..very tender and well flavored. One thing about this place is that you hate to ask for anything extra. If you want blue cheese dressing, they don't have it but then charge you a dollar for the crumbles. They also charge extra for anything but butter on your potato. The additional charges add up fast.

older restaurant, but the steaks are awesome. the cook cuts the steaks in the back before they cook it. the salads are cold and crisp. the tenderloin sandwich is the best thing on the menu for what you pay for, it is fabulous. everytime i come in to town i have to stop in.

Jim's has been around a long time. There is usually a long wait for a table during peak hours so we try to get in as they open. The restaurant can come off as a bit stuffy for some reason. But we never let it keep us from coming in as the food is good and the waitresses are always very nice. They say that they hand cut their steaks and thequality of the meat is very good but i wouldnt say they are great simply because i prefer a flame grilled steak and these are not. The side dishes are all fine and the onion rings are very good. I usually get a ribeye.
