Last tuesday around 8pm I had left a leather business binder at the restaurant and called the restaurant to verify the binder was still there. The Staff that night had verified over the phone that they had it and said they would hold it for me and even asked me for my name and phone number to put a post it note on top of the binder, and I was under the impression that i would be getting my leather business binder back that happened to have important documents and a few blank checks and credit cards stashed in the binder. I called on Thursday, called on Friday to ask about the binder and waited on hold for 10 minutes both times while they located that nights manager and they said to call back the next day, \I even stopped by on Monday night and to my astonishment, they somehow claimed to know exactly where the binder was placed , but they claim that a cleaning crew may have misplaced the binder and weren't able to track it, nor were the employees to give me the general managers contact information, but said I could leave my contact information which i left a business card and my name number and email and still have had zero contact from the management about this situation Being involved in the local business scene and involved in leadership positions with various local boards and organizations , I would never recommend this restaurant to anybody looking to hold business meetings over lunch or hold company functions in the private room next door because of the lack of professionalism and integrity from the employees of your restaurant over this situation.

We had to track down a waiter to order. I ended up getting the nachos, only to be extremely disappointed. The nachos included corn tortillas, melted cheese, chili, lettuce and tomato with a side of salsa and sour cream. The chips were extremely thin, and they put chili on the bottom of the plate, so by the time it gets to the table, the chips are completely soaked. The melted cheese was comparable to that of movie theater nacho cheese. The plate of nacho was huge, yes, but it was honestly some of the worst nachos I have consumed. I ate about 1/8th of the plate and asked the waiter to take it away from me. I went home with an unsettled stomach.

Hair in the pizza and still charged full price for replacement meals...which was a $4 basket of fries. The manager did apologize, but denied anyone in the kitchen having the same color of hair we were pulling out of the pizza.

Aww what can I say about The OP except it's like that favorite pair of jeans (just so happen to be wearing now). Even when you know you should try / wear something else, you go with makes you feel good. Being an Iowa native and UNI alum, I've grown up with this place. I've never had a bad meal here. Excellent craft beer selection, house special pizza, and a never ending supply of ranch for said pizza!! Check it out- I promise you won't be disappointed.

Gotta bring it down a notch. Let's discuss why... I have no idea what is happening with this place and service lately but it's not leaving customers very happy. I'd call myself a regular since the boyfriend drags me here on Saturdays to tune into the Iowa Hawkeye football games but the service absolutely sucks recently. Aaron no longer serves our large group (I have no clue why because he's the most social and nice guy that I've met) and we're stuck with a ditzy young girl who can't even remember to refill our drinks every once in a while. It's not like we're sitting at a table all day, not ordering food or drinks and not tipping. Majority of your tips come from good service. How hard is this concept? We should not have to go track down a server because we have not seen her in at least 15 minutes. Please don't hire a girl just based on her looks and how far down she can pull her shirt. There's obviously not much intelligence because after ordering a taco pizza our last time in and it getting to our table we asked for cheese and peppers. She looked at us with a confused look on our face and said, "Like... shredded??" No. Just one example of the things that we're not happy about. Fix this, please.

Where to start. It's hard as hell to get a drink in here, short of going behind the bar and pouring it yourself. But be careful, this place is pricey. Much pricier than what you get. Places were much cheaper in Austin, which has a natural disregard for your money. Next up, the service. My god, I said it was terrible. My friend said, can you really say it was terrible if it was non-existent? Good point my friend, good point. Food. We had some Pizza. It wasn't terrible, that's where the 2 star comes in. The pizza is serviceable. It kind of tastes like Casey's Pizza, which is awesome. I got the big one for 12.99. If I had to pay the 16.99 menu price, I'd probably have shot myself. Overall, I'll only go back to try that 1/2 Pork Sandwich they have. Otherwise, I'm going around the corner to Papa Keno's. They have better pizza, better deals, and cheaper beer.

"Bar Food" are edible items that enhance your experience while enjoying a fermented beverage (Example: Pizza and Beer) Bar Food is something I crave occasionally and when I do The Other Place is my top choice to get my fix. My wife and I have become regulars on Sundays for football games and I have sampled a quite a few of their Bar Food items. My top picks are the taco pizza, chicken tenders and the onion rings. The taco pizza is exactly as billed and is delicious. The chicken tenders seem to be hand breaded and quality white meat. Last but not least the onion rings are the king of Bar Food, hand made, fried to perfection, piled high on a plate and served with ranch dressing. Service is always top notch as well. Never an empty beer or stomach when we visit. Our regular visits on Sundays may continue long after football season is over!

The Other Place feels like the best bar in a small town. It's got a pretty good beer selection, an expansive menu, bar games, but in the end to me it's just another sports bar. They have TV's everywhere, but unless it's an Iowa game (Other Place is an Iowa bar), there isn't a ton of sound piped in and games sort of blend into the background. I'd recommend the pizza, as I think it's what they do best here. One cool thing is that they partner with the nearby farmers' market during their summer evening markets and have beer available for you to walk around and shop with. It's pretty nice having a beer on the steps of the clock tower patio listening to some live music.

I do love this place. Partially bias being a Hawkeyes fan and their hospitality towards us Iowans. Pros: sandwiches, they are by far the best best IMO. Put it this way, for three years I've gone here for my birthday because I like their Philly Cheese Steak that much! Their fries are seasoned perfectly too. Cons: Beer selection is limited. I'm more of a craft beer guy and they lack in that department. I personally believe their signature pizzas aren't all that good. I've had a variety of them and they all seem cheaply made. Either way, great environment, great service, and go Hawks!

I have been here several times over the years, and I guess i haven't made it one of my "spots" because I don't know anyone else who really loves it. That being said, it is often the choice location for work Happy Hours, so it definitely has appeal to some! The layout is pretty expansive for the Downtown OP location. They have at least five "areas" to congregate, including the actual bar. The draft beer selection accommodates nearly any taste; I would guess 15 or 20 options. They are known for their pizza. I have also had onion rings (yummy, and I would normally never eat them), mozarella sticks (good), fried shrooms (delish!), chicken tenders (dry), and nachos (they had chili with beans on them, so not really a fan). Service is decent. This is a great place for a group of work friends. I will definitely continue to come here!

The Other Place is inching closer to a four star review. Their food continues to improve after some lackluster quality about a year to year and a half ago. Always a good place to catch a game or play some trivia. Servers are friendly and attentive. All of the offerings here are the epitome of bar food. Sandwiches, burgers, pizza, wings, etc... With their recent improvement, TOP is quickly gaining a better quality than most bar & grill establishments. Good choice of beers available and a feel good environment to enjoy.

  • Justin B.

I ordered the build a burger with lettuce, american cheese, ketchup, mustard, sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes, and onions. The bun was probably the best part. Literal perfection. Then the actual meat of the burger tasted genuine and straight off the grill. It was rather large which was great. I also got the onion rings which were also great but could use some work. A new favorite.

First, you need to know that I am from Iowa and this is an Iowa based company. I have been to every "OP" in KC and Iowa. Everything is delicious. The pizza rocks. You can't miss a game if you are at the OP. The Sunday Bloody Mary bar is delicious. If you want a great atmosphere to watch sports and hang out all day... This is the place. Try the pastas,wi gs, tenderloin, pizza. You can't make a bad decision when it cones to the OP.

Great place to watch any game you want to watch and enjoy a great pizza and nice assortment of craft beers. Staff is very nice and accommodating. Although I was not with my family, it seems a family friendly place as well.

  • Bob M.

The Other Place has a good selection of craft beers and pretty tasty pizza. We live in the neighborhood and if we want to walk to a place for some pizza and beer this is the place. The beer is cold, the food is decent and the service is friendly. The front of the bar is more of an actual restaurant and I avoid sitting up there at all costs. If I had kids the reverse would probably be true as it definitely seems more family oriented up there. I don't go here expecting anything amazing but overall a very nice neighborhood bar that I'm glad we have close. The place does get packed for Iowa games but otherwise is usually big enough to have open tables.

Great food and a great place to watch any game. Nice friendly people working as well. Great destination in Downtown OP!

The sandwiches are huge and really good. I had the super sub and it was so big I had left overs for lunch the next day. Hubby and 2 friends split a 14" taco pizza that had 1/2 a bag of doritos on it. It looked good except for the crust which looked a little old. The drinks are cheap I think $2.75 a pint. The service is great. Our waitress Alex was atop of everything and super friendly. Food was fast and we will be back for sure. They also have Karoke.

Downtown Overland Park has an abundance of average, typical sports bar, and The Other Place is one of them. They serve pizza, burgers and sandwiches, and have daily drink and food specials. I have been here several times throughout the years, it can be a fun place to catch a game, but nothing really stands out as being exceptional. The last time I was there it seemed like the prices had gone up, some sandwiches and burgers were around 9 - 10$. If you are looking for a place to watch sports, this would be an acceptable location, however, there are better (and cheaper!) options in the neighborhood.

    (3)
  • Steve M.

A true sports bar with many out of market games on TV. In this day and age, many bars claim to be sports bars just because they have ESPN on. At The Other Place, they actually make it a point to have as many different games on as possible while showing the local games on the larger screens. But if you really want to watch a random game, they will have it. Also the pizza here is ridiculously good, on par with the best pizza places in town that only specialize in pizza.

Love the staff, love the pizza, love the beer! Great place to watch a game, happy hour with friends and coworkers or dinner with the family. Highly recommend!

Service is great. And draft beers are cheap, esp. on a Wednesday night. We were in Christmas Day after 6 pm looking for a place to grab a bite that didn't have a drive through. Limited late night menu was available, split a taco pizza. The pizza was surprisingly tasty, the crushed tortilla chips piled high on top was a bonus. I would easily award another star if the crust had been better, this is clearly a frozen disk of some sort, at least it wasn't suffering from freezer burn.

  • Travis W.

One of my favorite places in Overland Park to grab a beer and some chicken wings. The service is always great, from my experience... and there are a ton of televisions with any game that you could possibly want. And the pizza is pretty good, as well...

The Other Place is my kind of place. I've been going here for nearly 20 years and have such fond memories. It is the only place I can think of that plays the sound of the big game (Chiefs, K-State, KU) throughout the bar AND during commercials they mute the TV sound and play music. They also have about 100 TV's so no matter where you sit you have a good view. Prices are good and they always have a few good specials. I'm a big fan of their taco pizza which has taco Doritos crunched on the top once it comes out of the oven. They serve it with a squirt bottle of hot sauce!!! Goes great with a tall, ice cold beer. All of their pizzas are good. Service is usually pretty good. Great place to hang out during a game!!

  • Raven D.

I really want to love this place because the concept is so good and the menu has a great variety of options. However, on every occasion I've been here the service has been terrible or the establishment seems very unclean. Makes me worried to continue to eat there.

    (2)
  • Zach G.

I have only been here twice, but I have enjoyed both of my experiences. Both were for KU games, so it was PACKED, and yet my service was still pretty darn good - attentive, fairly speedy (speedier than most given the crowd), always accurate both in what I ordered and what my check came out with (doesn't sound impressive but I was in a group of 10 or so with 7 different checks). The food is your typical bar food but I think the taste was slightly above average. The place itself is comfortable and fairly clean, TVs abound and are of good quality and clarity with a decent sound system, and the back patio is a nice place to get some fresh air during long games. Parking usually isn't that bad, but can get slightly annoying during those big games. If the place were closer to my house, I would be back more often for sure.

Horrible service!!! First drink my glass was dirty. Asked waitress for new glass and she tried to claim all glasses were old. Doesn't matter if old or not i could wipe sludge with my finger. Then my next drink had no alcohol in it. Waitress then ignored us and wouldn't cash us out. Wont be back

    (1)
  • Erin W.

Pizza is awesome. Chicken fingers are awesome. Pizza takes a bit to cook but that's to be expected. If there's a game on prepare yourself to have a crowd if there's a spot to sit.

Had a business function in their private room, tasted the pizza---delicious. Thick crust, lots of cheese. Didn't have the taco pizza available. Wings were tasty, too. Guinness on tap! How do they get the beer to the top of the glass without spilling it???

  • Jacob H.

Decent chicken fingers. Not such a great beer selection. The staff is friendly though.

Typical bar food, minus potato skins - which my nephew was super disappointed about. However, they did do a special order of french fries made up like potato skins so I give them kudos on customer service. They serve pepsi products which makes me very happy :-) My daughter and I shared an appetizer sampler -- fried goodness including chicken fingers, onion rings, fried cheese and mushrooms -- all were yummy. We also shared a small chicken alfredo pizza which was very good. I really like their crust. Great place to hang out and watch a game. Plus in the summer would be nice to go and place some back yard games on the back patio while having a beer.

  • Brandon S.

This place has great pizza. The Cheese goes for miles. Just beware, they use CANNED mushrooms. My only complaint! If you make such an amazing pizza use fresh mushrooms, I'm not a fan of a mushroom that is slippery. Beer prices are good and they always have NFL on so I can watch out of market games.

After a couple hours of walking around downtown Overland Park, the five of us ducked into the "back alley" for lunch at the only place that appeared open on a Sunday afternoon. It's a sports bar and it looks like it's been handed down a couple generations. It also looks like it's one of the places men would visit and frequent. The five of us settled and ordered. The server took a while getting to us initially but when the order was placed, it came rather quickly. I ended up with the nachos with everything on it and chicken. It was good. Not one of those unhealthy jobs with globs of oil sliding all over the place, but properly healthy. It was so healthy that the taste wasn't quite right -- like they forgot some ingredients. So, not mind blowing, but very edible. It was washed down with a lemonade and we were out of there about $50 later (with tip). Not bad for five people and one beer.

If you are from Iowa, then this is your type of bar, if you're not, then it's just any other JoCo drinking establishment. For the most part, the customers are regulars, or they just don't want to squeeze in Maloney's down the street. Their food is better than average bar food, but pizza is the specialty. It's not by any means going to knock your sox off, but it's surprisingly good. The sandwiches are what you expect, I like the chicken philly myself. As most have mentioned here, the service is definitely lacking. The bartenders are generally unfriendly and the servers take forever to do most things. Best bet is to sit and the bar. This place says it's a sports bar, which it is, but the TV's here need some serious updating. They have a couple projection screens which should be replaced by large flat screens. They also have an abundance of small TV's that seem pointless since you would have to leave your seat to stand closer to them to see anything going on. Go there on weekends for people watching, a beer, and pizza, but don't make it an all night venture.

    (3)
  • Josh S.

I went to The Other Place for the first time this past weekend and had a great experience! There is a fun vibe and plenty of TV's to keep up with the games going on. The pizzas we ordered were pretty good, they had a solid selection of drinks, and the staff was friendly. In particular, our waiter made sure our group of 8 had a great time and always checked in with us. Great service!

    (5)
  • V. M.

Waitresses are fairly cute for being girls with tattoos. Seriously, enough is enough. Tattoos are for bikers and sailers not young ladies serving your food. Sorry, pet peeve. And now...On with the review. Drinks are cold and everyone is very friendly. If you get pizza, forget the crust. Just have them throw your favorite toppings in a carry out box and eat them with the cardboard, you'll never know the difference. How can they have such great meats, vegetables and sauce yet, awful crust? It's just one of the mysteries of life I guess.

    (3)
  • Rich K.

Their pizza is pretty good. Their service is pretty bad. It took nearly 30 minutes for our server to arrive at our table with drinks. To be honest, I did order something amazingly complex and difficult from the bar: a beer. Perhaps their bartender was unfamiliar with this exotic drink, so he had to place several long distance phone calls to various economically unstable foreign countries, begging to learn the coveted, arcane secrets of "making beer come out of a tap." After we finally placed our food order, the server walked 10 feet away, stopped, and immediately returned. She asked us, "what did you order again?" I replied, "a pepperoni pizza." Again, this may be my fault for requesting such obscure items. If I ever return here, I'll simplify things by ordering "a drink" and "a food."

Great pizza and cold beer. What is better than that. There is always a game on TV and the game room in the back has plenty of space.

Joe is right, crinkle cut is the way to BE! I've been to this location a handful of times and the Olathe location once or twice. The menu is pretty huge for a bar and grill and there's definitely something for everyone, even a picky vegetarian. The toasted veggie sub (mmm...toasty) and California quesadillas (mmm...California-y) are my top picks. The pizza is tasty, moreso than I'd usually expect from a place like this. OH. And for a really disgustingly unhealthy and tasty starter, the fried mushrooms are pretty amazing. During basketball season I came here a few times to watch the 'Hawks and while it seems like a billion TVs exploded on the wall, their small size made it kind of annoying. I personally think they should spring for some larger, nicer flatscreens or something to make watching games better. I'd certainly consider them more often if this were the case. Service is what it is. Sometimes good, sometimes mediocre, most of the times not too smart but no horrible service. All in all, let's go with 3.5 stars.

  • Joe H.

I really enjoy the pizza at The Other Place. The dough is yeasty & delicious, the sauce is tangy & wonderful, the cheese is plentiful (bordering on too much), and the toppings are tasty. This pizza is best enjoyed while as hot and fresh out of the oven as possible. I think this is partially due to the copious amounts of cheese that starts to set up after a while, but I am by no means saying it turns to shiat after 15 minutes so don't get me wrong. I don't generally stray from the pizza, but I did once get the burrito special. I found it far too bland for my tastes, but what can you expect from a pizza/pub. Their sandwiches look really good, and a friend I've gone with several times almost always gets a sandwich and says they are awesome. I will say there has been an occasion or two that I would call a miss on my order, but most of the time it is a hit right out of the park. Overall, I recommend trying The Other Place when you're in the mood for a tasty pizza pie (or something else. Hell, check the menu)

  • Kelly L.

Top five foods on the menu: #1) pizza is de-lic-ious! like none you've ever tasted--(taco pizza?yes!) #2) seasoned fries and chicken finger basket!! #3) bloody mary bar. #4) best honey mustard, ranch and buffalo sauces ever made #5) sub sandwiches to make your mouth water This is my happy place. :) absolutely the best pizza EVER-(melty, cheesy goodness), trivia, yumm-o bloody mary's and the best appetizers and chicken fingers I've ever tasted. simple sports bar in old OP but ridiculously good food, cool atmosphere, nice location. My happy place :) I give it four stars because wait staff is often moody and the nachos suck, and I sir, am a nacho kina' girl.....

More of a bar than restaurant. LOTS of TVs. Go there for the drinkin' and sports watchin'. Food ordered: cheese sticks, burger, beers and pizza. None of it was bad. Food came out hot and beer was cold. It reminded me of the stuff I used to eat in college at Fred P. Otts. If that's what you like, then you're golden. (the husband was a-ok with this place, but he's a bigger fan of drinking and sports watchin' than me)

I have fond feelings for the OP considering the first one is in Cedar Falls where I attended college. Always fun. Good pizza, a lot of wannabe drinkers, lot of kids early on.

Good sports bar ... Flat screens all over. Pizza is pretty good. Menu is bar food, and they do a pretty solid job. If you are an Iowa (Hawkeyes) fan ... this is the place to go to watch the game.

  • Jess N.

It's a sports bar, with sports bar food. The staff is okay, nothing to cheer about. Their specials never seem to work for me when I am there. The only reason I go here is because my favorite sports bar is too packed so this is our back-up. My husband likes it, probably because of the big TVs. It is in a great location, with good parking too.

The Other Place is a bar located in old Overland Park. Don't be fooled by its low-key sign or store front, this bar is huge inside and offers a rowdy stomping ground for University of IOWA fans. The bar itself is big enough, and to ad on to it there is a back patio and recently expanded side bar room with its own pool tables, karaoke stage and patio. I could not believe the size of this seemingly petite bar. The next step was the menu; filled with pretty typical bar food, The Other Place's menu offered some extra features. From gourmet pizza to (what I was told was) a famous grilled cheese sandwich. I'm not one to turn down cheese of any fashion, especially that of the grilled nature. I ordered the grilled cheese, and I'm glad I did. It was a trip back to my childhood kitchen, where my mom made grilled cheese- but it tasted completely different and there was karaoke blasting in my ear from ten feet away. None-the-less, the food was delicious and the service was attentive. The atmosphere may be this bars signature draw. I'm told that during the IOWA/IOWA State game the bar is a packed house of rivalry and fun- I have yet to see it for myself, but I plan on going back to check it out (and maybe rendezvous with another grilled cheese in the process)!

Solid place. Plenty of TVs to watch the games, and as bar food goes it's good stuff. We found the service to be quick and friendly. It isn't in our immediate neighborhood, so not sure we'll be back regularly. But it's certainly a place to consider when in that area.

  • Jamie C.

Everyone raves about their pizza but I'm not that big of a fan. Their subs are good though and they offer a Farmer's Market salad that's pretty decent for a bar. The set up is OK for watching a game but not great by any means. Old school tube TVs line the walls but most are so high that it can put a crick in your neck if you aren't careful. We've tried the OP on Sunday's to watch the NFL but there really isn't a good spot that allows you to see 4 or 5 games all at once. It works for Monday night though when there is just one game on at a time. They typically have "big" beers on special for a good price on Saturday and Sunday's they feature a build your own bloody marry bar which is always a good time.

Really fun sports bar with a good selection of appetizers and pizza. Usually have decent drink specials. Fun spot to watch the big game.

If you love a good old-fashioned sports bar in a nice downtown area setting, this is your pad. A number of beers on tap, TONS of TVs with mutiple sports games on and a good-sized place with lots of seats or standing room. (even though it appears very small from the street view.) Decent prices, very friendly servers Probably the only thing I'd say against the place is not all the food is the greatest, but their pizza and sub sandwiches alone more than anchor the menu. Next time you've got a sports event to watch, this is your place.

  • Joe H.

I've been to this downtown OP bar on many occassions. This is the winter compliment to Maloney's right down the street because the Other Place is overflowing with inside seating but no patio to speak of. We would generally gather here to catch some college basketball action. They have TVs everywhere. I can't remember if they have one or two large screens, but there are enough smaller moniters strung across the entire place that you can see one with the game you want. The food is pretty good. I generally stick with the sandwiches and their crinkle cut fries. Crinkle cut are the superior race of fries. I've only had the pizza once, and my friends ordered a taco pizza, which are completely filthy in my book. So I won't pass judgement on the pizza, just avoid the taco. Decent selection of beers on tap, although I usually stick with Boulevard or New Belgium selections since they don't have a huge selection. I'll even stoop to drinking the large mugs of the domestics when they have specials going on, because they price the stuff to move. I never really cared for the non-smoking seating because it felt like you were shunned to the corner, but that has likely changed with the smoking ban. The old smoking section was all hightop tables though, so we always tried to avoid those if we planned on staying awhile in order to not get a shelf put into our asses. The music can be annoyingly loud here if there's not a game on. What's really annoying is when they turn on the music during commercials of games. It sometimes takes a few minutes to regain your hearing when you go from comfortable game commentary to Chumbawumba cranked up to 11. Sweet job, DJ Douche. The Other Place originated in Iowa and is a notorious Iowa State bar. If you are not a Cyclone, avoid this place at all costs when there is a game scheduled.

run of the mill sports bar, about what you'd expect for bar food. I did have a nice California quesadilla - which was pretty good and rather unique. No pitchers of beer, which is a bummer for groups. The pizzas looked really good, but I've never been in the mood for one when I've been there.

    (3)
  • Jen B.

Some of the better pizza in KC, including an anything but low-fat Blue cheese/chicken wing pizza that was surprisingly delicious. The sandwiches are alright, but the pizza is the star at The Other Place. Almost as many TV's as seats in quaint downtown OP. A great place to watch a game or just grab a beer.

Great place to watch an Iowa game if you are in the KC area and the atmosphere is a huge reason. U of Iowa fans get rowdy, especially during Iowa/ISU games. There are various OPs in Iowa, too, so natives flock here for games. The food is good and fairly priced. Great pizza, great chicken sandwich. The TVs are a little small and outdated, but that is an easy fix. Looking for more Iowa Natives to review this bar, though.

This was origninally posted at the KC Beer Blog ( kcbeerblog.blogspot.com/… ) The easiest joke in the world is saying "let's go to the Other Place" to someone who doesn't know Overland Park. Those words always get you a follow up question, which I guess is what is intended. The Other Place is nestled in the firetrap downtown Overland Park and it has nearly everything you would want in a bar. It is missing a red headed bearded bartender (to the best of my knowledge), but they make up for it by having a great menu and great beer selection. I'm always reminded of the great ice storm of 2002 when most of KC was shut down for at least one evening. I didn't have electricity nor did anyone else living north of downtown Overland Park, of course my neighborhood more closely resembled a forest so power outages were not too uncommon. When I got home from work and found no electricity I hopped in the car and drove 3 miles per hour south where they didn't get it as bad. About an hour later (unfortunately only about 25 blocks) I saw lights in downtown OP, I was saved, The Other Place was open. I was so worried I was only going to be offered electricity at Chili's or McDonald's or some other horrible place. The bad news was, everyone else in town was also at The Other Place. The Other Place is pretty big and the walls are covered in TVs. I remember that night I watched quite a bit of Michael Jordan playing with the Wizards, perhaps the only time I ever saw that sight, it was not impressive. I also remember the great taps they had for a 5 degree evening. Newcastle on tap, in my mind, is a sign of class. Guinness on tap is expected as is at least 2 of the Boulevard brothers. But to also have Sam Adams and a couple of New Belgiums gives the discerning beer drinker such as myself many great choices and only a couple of bad ones, the Bud brothers. On this night I went with heavy English, the Newcastle - Guinness tag team. I also had myself a pizza, thinking that I had at least a dinner and a lunch the next day (my city survival skills are legendary). Pizzas are great at The OP, not as good as Papa Keno's down the street, but good enough . I've never had a bad meal at the OP, the hot sausage sandwich (which is the greatest name in the world for a sandwich) is good as is the pork tenderloin sandwich (I really don't have a cholesterol problem). Sandwiches and burgers may get the nod on an evening where you're looking for good fries because they have good seasoned crinkle fries. Ice storm night also brought out the single ladies. In atypical OP fashion the girls were flying solo and not in packs and if you had electricity you were going to have company for the evening. Like I said, I had no electricity, but I was wondering if I could go get a room at the White Haven, it was only a couple of blocks away and with the wonderful work the road crews were doing, the drive would only take 10 minutes. No chance of getting a room with electricity anywhere in town on this night. So I guarded my coveted spot at the bar (I always like to sit by the taps, there's something poetic about watching the birth of a new pint of beer) and nursed a couple of drinks until it was time to make the long trek home. Every time I've been back I've felt unfulfilled, though I'm sure it's no fault of The Other Place, I'm convinced it's because of that cold night in 2002 when I went home alone to a cold dark home not knowing when I would feel the gentle heat of electricity.

I think I keep coming back because of the insane amount of tv's scattered around the place. The food is ok, the beer specials are great and it is a pretty friendly environment for children. Great place to watch any sporting event.
