Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

My mom loves this place. She enjoys being able to sit and eat, while watching the pictures of Greece that rotate on the TVs, while exclaiming "I've been there!". Not sure if senility is kicking in, but at least her taste in food is good. This a fast casual joint. Think Chipotle or Qdoba, but with Greek food. They offer a few combo platters, gyros, sides like soup, and salad. They also have a display case of several traditional desserts for purchase. I'm not sure where their meat comes from, but I'm assuming its one of the frozen cones found in several other types of restaurants, but it doesn't taste like it. The gyro meat is thinly sliced and comes out moist and warm. Perhaps grilled as well, but not over done. Complaints are that you can't pull tables together so it makes it hard for groups and it is a bit on the pricey side.

Oh, Mr Gyros, how we love you. We live in Denver now, but whenever we get back to KC we always go at least twice! Their tzatziki is the best around (outside of Greece or Turkey). Chicken can sometimes be dry, but when it's on, it's ON! Gyros are a must, just make sure you don't have a meeting right after, as the garlic may not delight those around you. The pastries are also tasty.

I ordered the chicken gyro salad and a fountain drink at the counter for a total of $10.03. My number was called in about three minutes. The salad consisted primarily of thin strips of processed chicken on a large bed of iceberg lettuce. The salad also included a variety of fresh veggies, a tangy dressing, and excellent pita bread. I should have ordered the daily special gyro with small Greek salad instead. The interior was clean, with Greek music playing. The service was somewhat friendly.

Been here a few more times for dinner- always consistent and delicious. There service is so fast!

I've lived in KC for 30 years now and am embarrassed that I just started going to Mr. Gyro's. What a great find! Their Greek salad is spot on and as good as their entrees. Their dressing is what makes it, along with some feta cheese. Usually when I get a entree and side I alternate eating each one. I love their salad so much that I go prison style by wrapping my arm around my plate to prevent anyone from taking any, finish it, then move on to my gyro melt. The gyro melt may not be traditional greek, but tasty nonetheless. The pita bread is the best I've ever had and the tzatziki is wonderful. I am a serious carnivore, but I could easily make a meal of the Greek salad, pita bread, and tzatziki. I find Greek people fascinating! Most countries are proud of their heritage, but Greeks take it to another level (just like My Big Fat Greek Wedding). Greek everything covering the walls and for your viewing pleasure they have tv's with Greek travel videos playing at all times. I've been wanting to go to Santorini for years, but until that happens I'll just have to go to Mr Gyro's for my Greek fix. OPA!!!

I had a gyro here, and it was very yummy. I ordered at the counter, and my food was ready quickly. It's definitely a good option for Mediterranean in the Overland Park area. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was pretty good.

I love this place. I always call my to go order in advance, and the food is always ready and hot 10 minutes later. The big bonus, it's delicious! !

Great food! I am always looking for great Greek rice and Chicken Souvlaki and this place has it! They are fast and tasty. I order it over the phone and pick it up. They were very busy and the staff was pleasant. I will be back and I would recommend.

Food is yummy- great lunch special... But seriously, does every single girl that takes your order have to be so darn unfriendly? Is it a requirement to have a nasty attitude to work here.??? Hire some pleasant people!!

Lovvvveew this place, you have to make this place your weekly or monthly usual spot. Great and healthy food, the price is not the cheapest but best gyro in town! The tzatziki sauce is awesome!!! However, the attitude of some service can be nicer. My favorites: 1) Gyro plate: fun way to make your own little pita wrap. Love it! You get way more food than the gyro wrap 2) Souvlaki is awesome. Great choice for not want gyro meat but want real cuts of meat. Be prepared, there might be a little bit of wait 3) Hummus: love the warm pita with the warm hummus! 4) Greek salad: the dressing is tangy with great feta cheese flavor. Make this your usual spot! Great alternative for fast food.

The traditional gyro with the Greek salad is the way to go. Hold the onions and this is one phenomenal lunch or dinner if you're craving gyros. I compare every gyro I eat to this establishment. This place is awesome! It's an order at the counter establishment so look at the menu ahead of time if you're not sure what to get.

Headed here for dinner tonight with my son, a friend and her kids. I was craving a gyro sandwich after missing the Greek festival this weekend. The food was fine (also ordered hummus and a spanakopita for my son), but reminded me why it had been so long since I had last visited. It's not a horrible option, but the gyro meat/tomato/onion to pita ratio seemed high (it was impossible to pick up as a sandwich!) and the hummus was a bit bland. This is somewhere I loved growing up here, but now I'm wondering if it's just because there weren't any better options (now there are). I wouldn't rush back any time soon, but I'm glad it's here.
(3)Tim R.
Dolmathes! (the little rice and beef wrapped in grape leaf things). They have some of the best! I had a standard beef/lamb Gyro which was also very good. The meat portion was generous (something I'm VERY keen on) and the atmosphere was clean and pleasant. The Baklava is on point as well. I definitely need to go back, but with the 3 items I just mentioned, Mr Gyro's is definitely a repeat restaurant.

Great Spot for a quick lunch. If you haven't experienced it yet expect a line almost out the door. Even though the line can be annoying at times i also think it is a good indication of their product. They line moves fast, the food is a good value. if you have kids, they will enjoy watching the continual loop of the Greek country side so you can almost carry on a conversation with another adult.
(4)Kelly G.
Delicious every time!!!!!!! The Greek salad is the bomb!!!!! Come here for great healthy food....
(5)Marcus W.
Ordered the gyro pita. Lots of gyro meat, nice and hot. The pita was incredible- soft and warm. Seemed very fresh to me. The tzatziki sauce was really tasty, you can tell it was freshly made in the shop. I think I paid around $5.50 for the sandwich, a good deal. They offered some great traditional mediterranean foods- chicken shwarma (pita or plate) looked pretty good too. I ordered the red pepper and traditional hummus for the table- and they were just alright. A little too dense for my tastes, seemed like pre-packaged hummus or something. You got a nice heaping with 2 fresh pitas cut up for $3.75- another great deal if only the hummus was better. The interior was very simple, lots of Greek flair. The chairs were uncomfortable, I do remember that. And the staff who took our order were a little short. They seemed to want to just get people through the line, ring up the orders, move along. They weren't really offering any suggestions, or selling their lunch specials. Oh well. Overall, it was an average experience. The pita was great, hummus not so great. Prices were fair, and the help was nonexistent. If you're in the area and craving something Greek I would at least suggest you give Mr. Gyro a try.

I apologize for the rough comment, the. Gyro is a phenomenal piece of art, I will always be there for Mr.Gyros

Having enjoyed this place for years now, I realized that I should write a review! I just crave and love their chicken plate and salad. The dressing is good enough to drink. Seriously! I regularly go in to get a large cup of dressing to enjoy salads at home. The Greek Tzatziki sauce with the pita bread is delightful, too. While I love my salad here, I have to say that over the years I have never felt that the staff is too friendly, engaging or enjoyable...matter of fact, they seem rude to me. They seem to be very focused on taking your order and being done with you. I wish I felt a little more valued as a customer.
(4)Darlene H.
We have only had the chicken plate and the gyro sandwhich but they are always consistently delicious. The salad is addicting and always fresh. Definitely our favorite Greek restaurant.
(5)Amanda W.
Fresh, good food. Staff can be a bit pushy at times, but definitely open to making their recommendations on the dishes. Definitely not a 'fast food' flavor. Tad pricey, but worth the money. Large servings, and amazing tzatziki sauce. Their greek dressing is also pretty great.
(4)Erin W.
My first time eating anywhere Greek and they did not disappoint. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I had absolutely no idea what to get and got no help from the guy at the register. I even told him it was my first time...but he said nothing. I got the gyro melt and olive hummus. The melt was good...with the sauce it was great. Still don't know what exactly I just ate but it was good. One gyro filled me up and was inexpensive. I'll be back to try some more!
(4)Susan C.
Clean. Fast. Inexpensive. Generous portions. Warm pita bread with hummus - perfection. Gets crowded right around lunch time though.
(4)Mike B.
My smokin hot wife and I love this place for lunch. The lunch special is 7.50 for a Gyro and Greek salad.. I think this a heck of deal! Oompah! As they say in Greece. This is as much food as I can handle.
(4)Christine G.
I've been to 2 of Mr Gyro's locations and love their gyros! I make a point to come here when I'm in town. I also love their pita and hummus. The pita is warm and you get a good amount for the price. More like a walk in fast(er) food service sort of restaurant but good non the less. If you're looking for good food at fair prices, come over!
(5)Hailey M.
This is my go-to place. I always get the salad-sandwich special with the gyro melt. The service is fast but not the friendliest. I never have to wait too long. The salad tastes very fresh with olives, tomatoes, cucumber, feta cheese and a delicious vinegarette. The sandwich is always hot, the meat flavorful and seasoned well. Also try their coconut baklava it's my favorite!! Great food, always a favorite
(5)April L.
Food was good! The menu was kinda limited but good, none the less. The chocolate baklava is to die for!
(4)Jennifer W.
The food is simple "fast food" style Greek. It is always fresh and delicious and we've always had good service.
(5)Thomas R.
Delicious, Freshly Prepared, and Fast. Ordered dinner to go. I definitely will make this a regular stop when I go running at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.
(5)Jeremy P.
Good greek food. More like a walk-in fast food restaurant than a sit down restaurant. Very casual atmosphere. Don't get the salad. Not so good. Great baklava! Should have ordered 2 of these.

I love Greek food and Mr Gyro's on 135th is my favorite in Johnson County. I usually get the grilled chicken dinner and it is enough for two meals. Their homemade warm pitas are amazing and the salad is huge and delicious. The strips of chicken breast are succulent and grilled to perfection. The dolmadas plate is also excellent. You order at the counter and get a ticket with a number to go get your food when it's ready. It's casua with a nice clean casual decor and even my pre-teens enjoy going there. There is ample parking and it's right on 135th Street off Antioch so easy to get to.
(5)Jen D.
I enjoy Mr. Gyro's for a quick bite to eat over lunch hour. Or lunch 30 minutes in my case. The gyros are tasty and the hummus and pita are also good. My favorite dish is the Greek Salad with grilled chicken. It.is.so .good! The salad dressing here is delicious. I would eat salad every day if it came from Mr. Gyro's. Hey, maybe they could sponsor me and I could be like Jared from Subway??? What do you think? I would be happy to be their spokeswoman. Anyway... if you are in the neighborhood, do try Mr. Gyro's. They can get pretty busy during lunch hour, so if you have limited time I suggest you arrive before noon.

I feel in love with gyros down in Florida, and was exstatic when I found this place. I love love love this restaurant. They have an amazing greek salad. It is always very fresh tasting and full of flavor. Their gyro is also to die for. I love the flavor of the meat. It is so juicy and delicious, and when you add that tzaziki sauce. This meal will feel you up and yet keep you wanting more. I will warn during lunch it can get very busy but they are very good at gettting your food to you in a timely mannner.
(5)Laurel S.
Great gyro sandwiches, very good sauce, hummus seems like store bought - not worth it.
(4)Aimee W.
This is actually the first Mr. Gyro place I went to. I didn't go to the one on Metcalf until later. But I stopped by there last night before I headed to a friend's with our feast! Delicious. It was pretty busy and order taker later speedy and accurate. They had a hummus special so I got an order of that for my friend. We both got the gyro sandwiches and I got the side salad. Delicious. As always. Service was fast and pleasant. Portions were generous and delicious, salad was crisp and delightful. I assume the hummus was good - he didn't share and I think I caught him licking the container! Anyway, I actually like this location better. It is closer to my house, it isn't as busy, and I think the space is larger and so it is less crowded. Now, I haven't been here during lunch so maybe it gets slam packed there too but I think cause it was my first time with Mr. Gyro - it holds a special place for me. :) YUM! okaybye

Quick. Tasty. Cheap. Friendly service. I'd go back.
(4)Debbie G.
Let me start by saying there's nothing wrong with this place, it's clean, the staff is quick and efficient, the food is fresh and generous. So why did I give it just 3 stars? Because some of the key dishes aren't that flavorful. The grilled chicken (strips and souvlaki) is cooked nicely, but it's missing lemon and garlic. The salads are also fine, but the dressing needs a lot more acid. I wil say that the tzatziki is good as is the pita. I'm not a fan of the hummous but hummous is a personal thing - everyone makes it differently and there's no right way. I like mine with a lot of garlic and lemon and very smooth. My Gyro's is smooth but it's mild with good chickpea and tahini (?) flavor. This isn't a bad review - maybe Mr. Gyro just isn't my thing.

Expensive food with not expensive flavor!
(3)Michael H.
Well, it's a chain which is what I was afraid of...lol. Having said that, I gave it 4 out if 5 stars if compared to other "fast casual food joints" like Chipotle. I got the lunch special: gyro & a cup of their lemon chicken soup, a piece of baklava & a water all for just over $12. The gyro was better then the ones you might get in a mall food court. The soup had a bit too much lemon in it. The baklava was made with honey flavored simple syrup & LOTS of it. Like, it was dripping with dimple syrup & hard to eat, lol. But not enough of the nut filling. I'm commonly heard saying you can NEVER put too much cinnamon in anything, but somehow they did, lol. I won't be getting the soup or the baklava again. But if you are in a pinch & looking for an alternative to a fast food burger joint, I would definitely suggest coming here. Also if you simply MUST have a gyro or some dolmades & can't make it to a locally owned/family run greek restaurant, then I'd recommend this place. For the quality & the price, which was a bit high, I won't be a regular. But I'm sure I'll come back every once in a while. The food was hot, fresh & came out fast! The employees were very friendly & helpful and the place was very clean! But if I were Greek, I'd probably HATE this place! Imagine if McDonald's opened up a Greek restaurant. Complete with cheesy decor, blue & white everything & a large tv showing old pics of the Greek islands, lmao! I'm Mexican and I HATE Chipotle's btw....
(4)Ben S.
Cheap, delicious gyros and no frills. It's greek...so they lack in decor and frills...but man the meat is stupid delicious. I don't think I've ever ordered anything other than their gyro. No need to do anything else, its too damn good.
(4)Tori C.
I have always gotten the gyro and find it to be pretty good comparatively. I wish they had more portion and pricing options available.
(4)Tania M.
This is a chain Greek restaurant. Nothing was that great here and I would say it was mediocre for most Middle Eastern and Greek restaurants that I have visited. I disliked the pita bread and thought it tasted stale, the salad dressing was not that tasty, and overall everything tasted bland, including the gyro meat. I do like the atmosphere and I think that the restaurant is decorated tastefully and nicely, however, decor alone will not sway me to visit again.
(3)Nancy F.
They have the best greek in Johnson County! The chicken , beef and gyro meat is higher quality than comparable greek restaurants in the metro. The sandwiches and salads are very fresh. The ice tea is brewed not instant.
