Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. However, you can always satisfy your cravings for a burger by choosing Whataburger Jr. or other non-burger items from the menu.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for Diabetics:

A diabetic should resist from ordering any extra meat-based burger such as Double Meat Whataburger or Triple Meat Whataburger to limit the sodium intake and calories. Most burgers except the Whataburger Jr. are high in sodium and hence should be avoided.

Don't go here if you are looking for Barley's. Different demographic. I have not tried the food yet. What it is though is a no frills sports bar with cheap drink prices. The staff is really good there. They have some devoted patrons too! It's not a destination for me. It's where some old friends hang and so I will go up to hang with them to watch a game or someday sit in on one of their poker tournaments. I hear the poker tournaments there are the main draw!

The place is small and it is in some need of renovation. The price of the beer is not at part with the amenities. The food is very good for a bar, but I only had a burger. If vintage TV is what you like, you will be right at home. The two large screens are projector based and one is very yellow, and the other one is position in such a way that only the people right in front of it get to see it. All other TVs are too small. The service was good and friendly, but unless you are there to meet friends, I would not recomment it.

For a bar - the food is alright. The location and environment are safe and easy to find, but if you are looking to relax, escape the mudane and go some where exciting or fun - this isn't likely to satisfy what you're looking for. The food prices were a little higher than what I'd expect at a place like this, but were not horrible. If you are hungry and near this place it's not the worst place to go, but if you are looking for a great new place to try I'd pass on this place.

How neat is this place? Pretty neat. Strong, cheap drinks, fried food, and sandwiches. How neat is that?

As mentioned below, this is the same menu as Quinton's in Lawrence. The food is the draw here, but the atmosphere and service will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. I have been here a dozen or so times, most recently this season for a KU game. We were the only table there besides some regulars sitting at the bar. The waitress put the game in their projection screen, which was a headache to say the least. The projected must have not been cleaned since the 80's, so all you could see was a yellow blur. If you want a quick bite to eat to remind you of your college days in Lawrence, then it's a good spot. Don't go for a night of drinking or for a game though.

This is one of those great hidden places that everyone talks about ! Great veggie sandwhich and all the soups are off the charts ! (Better than panera . )I stopped eating meat a while back so its nice to find a place with such great options for me and my family. This place has a great feel and is a laid back environent ! I try to go as much as I can ! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable

My favorite place to be in Overland Park. Food is outstanding. Turkey Reuben is great, and I tend to order a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with bacon all the time. Oh, and the fiesta chicken salad is top notch. Recently renovated with new big flat screens and a new projector that is as clear as the HD. Free Wi-Fi also makes it handy if I want to get out of the office for a while.

Here's another one of those places with a different name in Lawrence but the same great food. Quinton's has been a Mass Street staple for more than a decade, serving great sandwiches and soup in bread bowls that keep the meat on the bones of KU students. Its sister restaurant, Gert's Grill, was originally called Quinton's too. Like big brother, Gert's is close to a college; you'll find the bar and grill right across College north of Johnson County Community College. So now that you everything down about the family tree, let's get back to what makes Gert's great: signature sandwiches like the Jayhawk and the Angel are made with thick bread and plenty of meat, cheese, vegetables and spreads. Fortunately, they come sliced in half so you don't have to handle the whole thing at once. The soups are great too. In the colder months of the year, nothing can beat a spoonful of their cheese or potato soup with a little bit of bread bowl mixed in. Gert's menu hasn't change much at all since the name change, and some remodeling a few years ago made the place twice as big to accommodate the big lunchtime and game day crowds. So whether you already like Quinton's or want to find another great place for bar food, stop by Gert's.

If they started up the fryer before 2pm this would be a 4star. And I suppose I should try other things on the menu, but I'm stuck on the turkey sandwich with avacado and alfalfa and mayo on a crossiont. It's so juciy and moist. I take it to-go, the atmosphere leaves something to be desired unless you go for the non decorated look. Staff is ready to fill your plastic cups and serve your food but make it to clear that they would rather be anywhere else but there. The regulars are friendly, and someone bought the whole place a round when they scored big on the golf video game. That was cool. Basically, a good dive good food bar

Great little place to go for some drinking, decent bar food and to catch a sporting event. You can buy beer by the pitcher, which is always nice. Every time I go here, I get Fat Tire, so I can't elaborate much on the tap selection. They also serve in plastic cups you can take with you. I've had various burgers and sandwiches, which have all been good. My two favorite meal choices have to be the ham & cheese melt or the Hawaiian burger. Fries are decent. My wife and numerous acquiantances swear by their soup served in a bread bowl. Eating soup from a dive bar is not something I plan to do in this lifetime. There are two large screens and numerous TVs for viewing. They are more than willing to switch one or multiple ones to whatever game you want, which is served up via dish. Good crowds for games between local/conference teams. Staff is awesome, but over worked. You might have to wait a bit to get attention when the place is packed, but not slow by any means.

I went here for the first time last night. My boyfriend and I wanted burgers and it happened to be 1/2 price burger night (Wednesday). They also had various other specials for food nights. I noticed that it said Monday is $.75 wings and Thursday was $.75 tacos. The food was good and the service was also. Was a great place to watch the game. I will be back to try some more of their menu. A few of the other reviews talked about dirty carpet but they have replaced it with laminate flooring.

Just your normal neighborhood bar and grill. Friendly service. Lots of menu items, but majority are sandwiches...and they're huge. Love the pasta salad and cottage cheese as side options!

I must admit I wasn't expecting much. But what I found was one if THE BEST hamburger I have ever had! I got the mushroom Swiss burger. They use fresh beef and a large amount I might add! It was grilled perfectly, and served on a toasted bun. If judging from the burger alone this place would be five stars. The only reason I didn't give five stars was because of two things... The two star deduction is because of the following: 1. Place is run down and they had dirty tables left over after people had already left. If the owner would take more pride in the furniture, and cleanliness this place would be packed!! Carpet is dirty, and disgusting. 2. The French fries were obviously frozen out of a bag. Why can't they take a few extra minutes and fresh cut the potatoes? I just don't get it.

Had a bogo coupon from the entertainment book and found ourselves sans kids for the evening so went over to grab a quick dinner with the hubby. Seriously, how has this place been in business for 20 years??? Upon walking into the dark, dingy strip mall location I am overwhelmed with the smell of stale frying grease. My hubby ordered a burger which he said was "fine". I ordered the smoked stackhouse. The roast beef was tough and stringy. The bread wasn't grilled or toasted so much as just "kissed" with grill marks. The cheese was barely melted. Not sure what spicy Russian mustard is but think it was the sweet and sour type flavor I was getting. The lettuce was wilted and soggy. This place has 2 things going for it. The waitress was super nice and the fries were really crispy.

Seriously, if you're looking for solid soup served in a delicious bread bowl...... With a son of bitch that's good, sandwich on the side. Pop in this little joint.

We've come here a few times to meet friends that live by Oak Park Mall. It's about half way for each of us. On Friday nights they have $2.50 wells and the pour is not light. The food here is decent but I wouldn't come here just for the food. I had the chef salad last night. Usually you have thick pieces of turkey and ham on a chef salad. This was deli meat instead. Also, there was not any avocado, which I didn't realize until later. However, it still tasted great. My husband had a Reuben and it came with a bag of potato chips - we thought it was going to be "homemade" fried chips. The Reuben was good. The best thing we have had here are the hamburgers. They are pretty good. All in all, a nice neighborhood bar. We will definitely be back.

Good food, good drinks and great happy hour specials! The service has always been friendly. If the place is crowded then the kitchen starts to slow down but the food is worth the wait.

    (4)
  • Lisa F.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. The soup was from a can. The lunchmeat was the lowest quality possible. I could only enjoy this food late at night while heavily intoxicated. Quit eating my turkey sandwich with sprouts for fear of leptospirosis.

    (1)
  • Kay L.

Ugh. Slow service. Horrible plastic-y Velveeta slop being passed off as "Wisconsin cheese soup," served in the wrong kind of bread for the bowl -- it should be a sourdough boule, not an oversized dinner roll. Looks like a fun place to go have a drink & watch a game, but the lunch service did not impress me one bit. I see reviews from friends rating it much more highly, though, so I may have to give it a second chance just on the strength of that.

  • Amanda O.

My name is Amanda. And I love Gert's Grille. It's true. Tuna & cheddar melt = amazing. Broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl = indulgent. We moved to the neighborhood a few months ago, and we've been there a ton already. The service is always great, and all the bartenders are awesome & friendly. We even got a free homemade cookie one night by chance. *YUM* My only complaint? It's not open 24/7 :)

    (5)
  • Sam C.

I've never eaten at Gert's for dinner, but it's a consistently solid lunch spot. Never too packed to slow you down, but it's always busy enough to let you know it's good. Unfortunately, they don't turn on their fryer during the day, so if you're hankering for french fries, go somewhere else. But I'd suggest you think twice before you do, as their mainstays are plenty good without fries. First, the sandwiches are great, served on thick Texas toast and with a wide variety of styles--my personal favorite is the Smoke Stack, with roast beef, smoked turkey, smoked Gouda and spicy Russian mustard. And second, they have fantastic bread bowls and soup. They are big enough for a meal in and of themselves, but if you're feeling extra hungry, you can get a bread bowl and half sandwich combo. With all the options for lunchtime out in Overland Park, it can sometimes be hard to stand out. And Gert's is certainly nothing flashy, but they are good where it counts--in speed and taste.

    (3)
  • Zach G.

Each time I go to Gert's, I end up liking it a bit more. It's really an awesome place to grab a few drinks and relax. It is almost always quiet, even on weekend nights, and the bartenders are usually really, really friendly. Prices are great, even on drinks that are not on special. My experiences with the mixed drinks is that they tend to be poured quite liberally, making the prices even better. I still have not tried the food, but I definitely recommend this place for a few drinks. That being said, it's more in the direction of a dive bar than most Johnson County bars. Note, it is NOT a dive bar, but it's closer to that then most other places in JoCo. Only complaint would be the TVs. I don't see me visiting here often for any big games. There are several, but they are pretty small. The one big projection screen is dark and not very clear.

I came back to Gerts Grille (because it's awesome) and had the half soup, half sandwich combo. The T.A.C. just might be my favorite and the chilli is perfect for a chilly day!

I was in this shopping center just across College Blvd. from JCCC to pick up a prescription. Decided to check out Gert's Grille, which I'd seen often but never visited 'til now. It was mid-afternoon and empty. It looks like your typical suburban dive/sports bar -- no decor to speak of, lots of high tops for sitting around and booths along the wall. Beer selection was not impressive, although they did have a couple of decent beers on tap. There's a big sandwich menu and I ordered their Reuben, which was favorably mentioned by another Yelper. The sandwich is very generous -- served on a darkish, thick-cut rye bread that's actually kind of soft. The filling was plentiful and tasty, and the crinkle-cut skinny fries were hot, crispy and good. It all went down nicely with some Blue Moon. Service was friendly. Not a place I'd make a pilgrimage to, but it's reasonably close to where I live and I shop in that center often so I'll undoubtedly be back.

Good place for sandwich and soup. Reasonably sure the bread is homemade.. and very good. Place is fairly busy at lunch, the non descript strip mall location seems underwhelming, but its worth a try.

  • Matt M.

Every sandwich on the menu is amazing! But I have a thing for Texas toast.

  • April C.

I love this place. The sandwiches are all delicious, as are the melts. I highly recommend ordering a sandwich/soup or melt/soup combo. The soups taste homemade, with scrumptious selections like creamy potato bacon and Wisconsin cheddar cheese. All of the soups are served in a bread bowl, so eating the warm, soup-remnant heavy bread after you finish the soup is an almost heavenly experience. For a half melt, soup, and side, the meal is approximately $8. The only downside to my visit was the wobbly seat and slighty torn up decor. Everything else was just right!

  • Ryan K.

My wife and I go here for lunch here at least once a month, and we have always been satisfied. The food is always consistent, drink and food prices are more than fair, and so far, we've always had great (actually outstanding) service from the bar and dining staff. We both work in the industry, and both of us nitpick certain things, that most wouldn't. Everything is virtually tip-top. Staff is properly trained, the chefs obviously know what they're doing, and Gert's has a nice flow to it. I would give them a 5/5, but the only thing I had with them; it doesn't really feel like a bar and grill to me. I am a bartender, and I just don't see it like a bar. I definitely see how it can be done. All the resources are there, but I feel they aren't utilized. Now, this is a very small complaint, but I feel that this place could really REALLY be a nice spot to grab a few cocktails and watch the game. Nothing to deter you from checking Gert's out, because this is an awesome, locally owned, and friendly place to try out.

The best little place you're never been!! Great food, great atmosphere, fast and friendly service. This place lives and dies by the sandwich and bread bowl soup combo. Sandwich Recommendations: Reuben, Philly, Chicken Salad (add bacon) Soup Recommendations: Potato Bacon (every day) Tomato Basil (seasonal). I prefer the highly underrated Fiesta Chicken Salad. It's very good and pretty dang healthy. Prices are great and there are always daily drink specials. I love Gerts!!

  • Alicia H.

I have frequented this place quite a bit for lunch because it's near where I work. I've luckily had pretty decent service in the past because I've known one of the servers in the past. This place can get quite a rush over during the work day lunch. But that isn't always the case. I recommend parking and walking inside to get a quick lay of the land because you can't tell by the parking lot. It generally is full because of the multiple businesses in the strip mall and it's located near a grocery store. In terms of what to get, it's been stated several times that if you have been to Quinton's in Lawrence you will know this menu. If your not familiar with it or are just looking to try something new, my recommendations are the CAB, the Angel or the Aloha Chicken. For a special treat that will make you feel like a kid again, check out the Grill PB&J or the Grilled Cheese. They also have soups. If it happens tomato soup is available, I'll get that with half a grilled cheese every time ... except for in the summer. I think eating hot soup in the summer is weird.
