Love Firebirds! Food is fantastic. Great variety. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming and very comfortable.

Loved the flourless chocolate cake! It was one of the best gluten free desserts I have had.

Service is the worst I've seen. Reservations aren't kept to time. and hostess are very snotty. First time we gave it a pass. Second time is a real issue. Never going back.

This would have been a two star review, save the whole happy hour and meal being comp'd due to the poor service. A friend and I went for happy hour. I had two martinis, both of which were good but they were so smooth I was wondering how much alcohol was really in them. Maybe the alcohol they use is just that good, but I am willing to bet it was just more juice than anything, maybe. Friend had a margarita and liked it. I ordered a salad and she had a spicy chicken pasta dish. The food was fine, but nothing overly special. Solid options though. As for the service: we sat down and someone came over to take our drink order. We then waited at least ten if not fifteen minutes for our drinks. Nobody came to check on us, not once. Happy hour was running out so I flagged someone down in order to get a second round before the pricing specials ended. Then, again, no one came back to check. We had to flag down not one, but two people, in order to get our check. And then it was comp'd by the manager. Yep, that was a smart move. Because I'll likely be back due to that nicety. But I will only go for happy hour, and I'll sit at the bar, where its bloody hard to be ignored.

If you like boring, this place is for you. It's like every other cookie cutter Leawood restaurant. Nice decor but so what. It's a rubber stamp . First, the beer list sucks. Same old same old. Not a single craft beer....not even a stout on the list. Bar waitress wAs a total ditz who really pissed me off by not transferring our order to our table.....we ordered drinks and table was ready.....all she wanted was her tip. On bright side, no one complained about their food. It was good. The. Kobe meat loaf was very good. But for crying out loud wine glass at $11 per is just nuts for house wine. Overall the place is so blah and boring it seems what so much of the Leawood crowd craves these days. Vanilla acceptable nothing. No way am I going back. Compare, the District Pour House in Waldo....so good. The triple cheese at Mcdees more exciting.

I ordered a aged ribeye. Instead I got a seared precooked prime rib cut... not the same thing. I'm never going back.

The bar is gorgeous and the food was spectacular. The salad garnish that came with our coconut shrimp was as tasty as the BLT salad we ordered. Nice attention to detail!

Heard good things about this place and took a party of 9 there on Monday evening and not impressed. Server was very attentive, but that was probably best part of evening except that Monday is half price wine night. Wife ordered chicken fried salad and was just as good as others in cheaper restaurants. I had Chili rubbed delmonico steak.... not that tender and lacked flavor but was cooked as I ordered, loaded baked potato was very dry, two people ordered Kobe meatloaf, each one tasted different, another had a turkey club, pretty boring and green tomatoes, and another nachos with bland cheese dip and store bought red White and blue chips. Overall, very overpriced and not worth it. I don't mind spending money on Good food... but this isn't it.

Went to try this restaurant again last night...Well still not impressed....it was a party of three and we each had the prime rib...the server was describing it like it was too dye for....well it wasnt....still had a lot of fat on the meat...didn't seem like it was seasoned at all....they said it was aged for a day...didn't taste like it...I'm starting to believe you all don't know how to season the food here...I get prime rib at another restaurant and is way way way better st Houston's..the price of the prime rib is not worth it...and you still have to pay for a side salad which we did one then ended up splitting it....the horseradish sauce can be a little more spicy....that's why they called it horseradish...service was okay but after we received your food and received a check up we never saw our server again...manager had to take our plates away, get us a to go boxes, brought our check and etc...

The prime rib and potatoes were excellent! Loved the fresh salads and bread as well. Waiter was great!

Love, love, love the Mahi fish taco special on Wednesday's. My boyfriend and I find ourselves there every Weds for lunch because they are so delicious and consistent - especially for being in the Midwest. We have been other times too and I have really enjoyed their ahi tuna (portion was perfect and was good quality) and he loved their Delmonico steak. Caesar salad is tasty too! Service is very quick and attentive. We love coming here for lunch!

I love this place! They have the best food and everyone is so nice! I think the salads are the best that I've EVER had!!!! I can tell you I will be back very soon!

The service was good, the food was good but it is a long way from where I live so not some place I would come to very often because of the distance. We came here for a birthday celebration. I think these places are pretty typical for suburban dining that caters to the lifestyle out here. Nothing wrong with it. It's consistent and pleasant.

Just awesome time food is great drinks are cold crab cakes are awesome the steaks are great very classic place.

Very nice place to eat. Walking into the Restaurant, the bar is right there along with the restrooms which makes a nice layout. We sat in the dining room. Waitress was new there I think. Ordered Steaks, loaded Potato, crab cakes, Mahi Mahi. Food was good, not great. Crab cakes were so-so, but the slaw they were served with was really good. Mahi Mahi was very good, just a touch under cooked. Also had the BLT salad which was good too. All in all we enjoyed the food. Would like to try a couple other items next time we stop in.

I visited this place about three times when they first opened. It instantly became one of my new favs. I loved the ambiance and look of the place. The bar is stellar and a very cool place. I loved the wine bottles everywhere. I always sat by the windows though. The food blew me away as well. I would always get the portabella sandwich, which was divine. I had not been there since early fall, so was excited when my family made reservations for my mom and brothers birthday. Now, before I continue my review, I think it is important to point out that I work at a very reputable restaurant in JOCO. We were seated at a table in the dining room, but right by the bathrooms and bar computer. I instantly did not like the feel. The lighting was weird. Like very bright. The place which was always slammed busy when I had been there before, regardless of the night, was pretty empty. It was 6:30 on a Thursday night. Our server was great, and I do not want this bad review to reflect on her in anyway. We all ordered the lobster queso, I think that's what it's called. It was very good. Others ordered beers. If our server did not deliver the drinks, another server or employee would auction them off. Big no no in my book. A server should never interrupt a conversation to find out who has what drink. I was still optimistic. I ordered the encrusted salmon. It was super yummy, I ate all of it. Throughout the dinning experience, the table was cluttered, which is a no no for me as well. Maybe I'm just spoiled, because where I work, servers are constantly, non obtrusively, manicuring the table and removing crumbs, used napkins, plates, etc. We ordered the carrot cake for dessert. It was very good, but not the best. The next morning, I was very, very sick. I have only had food poisoning once, a long time ago, but it was very clear, I had food poisoning. This was kinda the tip of the iceberg for me. Firebirds was once a place that I raved about and always wanted to go to. Now, and my family agrees, we will most likely not be returning. For the money, you can get just as good food and over the top service somewhere else. Not saying our service was bad, I just think it is not firebirds style to be non obtrusive and manicure the table. I am very disappointed. The feel was just lacking, and I can't really pin point why, it just was. Response to Firebirds: sydneyschierling@gmail.c…

My wife an I went there the second time. First time was quite ok and we thought to go there again to have a nice steak. I went for the KC strip with a glass of the house wine and my wife took a filet. Both did clearly not meet our expectation - the strip was rather chewy and the filet tasteless (both medium rare)... and the wine was just about going over, probably just a bad bottle, but still... We will not give it another chance.

The best wings in town. This is a solid place to eat and have a drink. Rating of a 3 in our opinion is not fair.
(4)Karina G.
Came here with family while we were in town for the holidays. Excellent food and service. We started with the lobster queso dip which was delicious and we had burgers for our entree. The quality of the food was great and the waiters were very attentive. Great experience! Try the double black diamond cocktail! Yum!
(5)Bob H.
Very pricy especially for lunch. Server was attentive and bread was excellent Recommend Colorado salad
(4)Nancy M.
Excellent homemade soups. Love the fresh-squeezed lemonade. Very nice decor. We recommend it.
(5)Ryan J.
Had a very snotty waitress and food wasn't good enough to give it another try. Carrot cake much better down the road at J Alexander's.

We wont return and would not recommend it. I would guess they will close in a year or two once the word gets out. It appears all the work went into the furniture and design instead of the food. Menu is boring with no inspiration. Bland with things like iceberg lettuce in the salads, boring burgers, and high than expected prices. One guest with me did not touch a burger and the server took it away without a word. Another picked at a steak salad. Server was mainly speaking with other servers instead of being attentive to guest needs. Some like the Spinach queso appetizer but that was all the good we could find in here. Too many choices for this type of spend with below average food.

If you're in the area and are trying to accommodate a group with varied tastes and appetites I do think this place would be a safe bet. However if you're looking for a "special" dining experience I can't say Firebirds rises to the occasion. Among the offerings tried in our group was the steak au poivre, meatloaf and onion rings. The steak was tasty, pretty reasonably priced though it all looked a little lonely on the exceedingly large plate accompanied by only mashed potatoes. Meatloaf was oversalted though the mushrooms were excellent. Onion rings were a standout...crispy with a superior ranch dip. Service was friendly enough, attentive, but I will say one of my greatest service pet peeves was rankled. We were a group of women, all over 40 (one over 70) but our 30-something server repeatedly referred to us as "girls." I understand the dilemma, especially in this day and age where people tend to, for better or worse, err on the side of informality but gotta say I think it's a mistake. I prefer to be treated with respect rather than ingratiation. A smile, eye contact and "ladies" would honestly have been just fine. It may be a fine point but lack of mastery can set an experience apart in the negative.

This is the hot new place in south Overland Park. Love the deco. It was very busy and very noisy. I joined a group at the bar and they were way ahead of me if you know what I mean. The bartender was very attentive and drinks were good. I ordered the ahi tuna appetizer - it came just seared and the sauce was excellent. I think this is must try again.

We had dinner at Firebirds last night and thought it was great! My husband got the salmon and raved about it. I got a salad with wood fired shrimp, as I was trying to go healthy (until dessert). It was delicious. I don't normally get all excited about salads, but this one was really tasty. And the highlight of the meal was the Big Daddy's Chocolate Cake. OMG. Seriously haven't stopped thinking about it. We will be back.

We eat out quite a bit - Trezo Mare, Capital Grill, Piropos, Story but mostly up North. At the recommendation from a friend, we tried Firebirds for the first time last night. We were told that the burgers were very good and that was an understatement! They were tremendous. The lobster queso appetizer was gone so fast I only had a couple of bites but it was a must-have. The Kobe meatloaf was outstanding! The lemonade, the atmosphere, the food was just great but what really made the dinner was the service from Collin. He was knowledgable, attentive, brought good energy and made us feel like we were his only table (maybe we were, I don't know). My 13 yr old made several comments like "he's one of the nicest waiters ever". Not only was he the nicest but he was definitely the best waiter we had in 2014!!! Would recommend this place all day! can't wait to go back and try the filet with blue cheese

Any place with a solid patio will have my attention. It is a very nice atmosphere and casually fancy. I'm not going to lie, it is on the pricier side but what I have ordered, was good. They a nice happy hour that starts at 4pm. I'll go back. I do recommend getting there early for happy hour, it does fill up fast.
(3)Janet B.
I agree with Dan. Worst hostess ever. Rude and defensive. Obviously this happened before! Last time for me too. I have eaten before and really wasn't that impressed but thought I would give it another try. Changed my mind!

I love this restaurant. Great service, atmosphere, service, food, drink and overall experience.

Why is it that they think singles don't get bread as part of the meal like couples and groups? - this is the 2nd place in two days that failed to bring bread to my table - why should I have to ask for it? I see bread going to table after table Steak Med rare? Can you say raw ! Sent it back for re-cook Disappointed as both the Chandler AZ and Memphis locations were wonderful 3 stars cause mgr made it right
(3)Rob F.
Great new restaurant. We started with the lobster spinach queso. Moved to the BLT salad next. For the main entree, went with the Delmonico steak. Very good all around. Very nice atmosphere. Definitely will go back.
(5)Stephanie D.
We have never had anything but a good experience when dining at Firebirds. The food and drinks are excellent. The service has always been great and the staff has always been knowledgeable.
(5)Derek N.
Good decor and great service. Went for a birthday and they brought a card signed by the staff. Nice touch! The steak was over seasoned (salty) and the meatloaf was salty. Could be better than average if they get the seasoning right.
(3)Lindsey G.
The restaurant had a very young fun vibe. While the decor is on point the food is really lacking. The bread they serve prior to the meal is great but it stops there. I ordered the overpriced burger and it was so salty I only had 2 bites. You would think the waiter would notice I didn't even eat my burger and try to fix the problem, but he didn't care. It is an overpriced eatery. I won't be going back.

Great Happy Hour, but get there early, tables fill quickly! Had a wonderfully fun meal with a group of girlfriends. Wait staff and management were excellent and eager to please. This was my second visit, love the Colorado Chicken Salad. Will definitely be coming back!

Just the worst experience ever!!!!!! I have dined at the Firebird's in Memphis on several occasions and had an outstanding experience, but this new location has a lot to be desired. I travel to Kansas twice a month and decided to try out this new location. As I have already stated above bad move. I went to the bar to have dinner, but to even get acknowledge took an effort by the staff behind the bar. I was finally asked if I want a drink after about 15 minutes. Of course, the first one was incorrect. I sat there and had my drink and never was asked if I needed anything or if I even wanted dinner the entire time. I knew then to pay my bill and head across the street to Nick and Jakes where they know how to take care of their customers. Need to avoid if possible.

First time for dinner 9/15/14. After sitting at table for approx. 10 minutes, we had to go back to hostess stand to and have them find someone to come wait on us. Ordered wine. Ordered crab cakes. Crab cakes were. Mushy and barely luke warm. Ordered their BLT salad. Was good but server never brought us bread like on other tables that had their salad. We ordered a ribeye and 16 oz. prime rib both medium rare. Both came out extremely rare. i've had plenty of great prime ribs and this one was dried out all around the edges as if it had been cooked a day or two before then warmed up, but it wasn't hardly even warm. Both our loaded baked potatoes were almost cold. No kidding, almost cold. We finally asked our server for some bread and she brought it along with some hard cold butter which is not what you want with soft bread. . For a $105 dinner for 2 people(before tip), we both said would not come back to this restaurant. Service was not what it should be for an upscale restaurant and the food was nothing to rave about.
(1)Max B.
Not impressed. Sat quickly party of seven. Drink order was taken and took twenty minutes to deliver. After another twenty minutes waiter asked for refills and app order. Ordered the chicken quesadilla and the seafood nachos. After another thirty minutes delivered. OK. Pedestrian. Ordered several more drinks with several mix ups / sent back. Main entrees arrived after a forty five minute wait. Most ordered steaks which everyone seemed pleased with. One salmon order that was also good. Another person ordered a cheeseburger that was delivered without any condiments. We asked for condiments upon delivery and waitress never returned. After ten minutes, flagged down another waitress who delivered so that coworker could eat. Wine after dinner was exceptional with the waiter informed and attentive. Bottom line: it's a chain ( Applebee's ) charging top shelf pricing for the decor. Staff is overworked and distant. There are better options.

Went to lunch with my mom and we shared the french dip sandwich and our bill was $25!!! I had water and mom had a tea. Seriously, that is insane. And it was just so-so. If you want a great french dip go to J. Alexanders or Houstons. The price will be about the same but the it will be soooooo worth it!
(2)Susan W.
Haven't been disappointed yet! Have had dinner with couples & lunch with girlfriends and always good and large portions! Excellent service, delicious and many choices. Definitely a recommendation -nice atmosphere.
