I've never heard of Blue Moose until restaurant week. Their lunch menu sounded really good so, we decided to give it a try. Let me start off by saying that it seemed like they were short staffed. It seemed like it took a while to be greeted, seated, and get our food! Overall, the service was great and the food was worth the wait. We tried the following on their restaurant menu: Shrimp and grits Mixed green salad Chicken and potatoes It sounds like they have a really good brunch at a reasonable price so we'll have to come back and check that out. Hopefully, they'll have more hands on deck!

A nice, atmospheric place--and gluten free friendly too! I ordered a small Cesar salad, with a bowl of artichoke bisque. They had a mimosa special too, so why not? We splurged. Unfortunately, the artichoke bisque was way too salty, and I ended up only eating about half. Our waitress was extremely friendly and often came to check in with us.

For happy hour... this place is great. Lunch is a different story. Service is a little slow... Menu is a bit overwhelming. I had the salmon club. Really good... but really messy. My date had the strawberry spinach salad with chicken... looked really good and he enjoyed it. Had to ask for the check.

Have been here several times. (My son requests it for his bday, as he loves the chicken wrap.) I like that Blue Moose has some unique dishes that differentiate them from other bar & grills. I also appreciate that they support local BBQ like 3 pigs. Love the fried pickles - different than any others I've had, and I've made it my mission to try the fried pickles at every opportunity given to me. I've tried a variety of entrées and haven't had anything I didn't like. Oh, and the service has always been good too!

A star above Applebee's just because the service is good. Went there on a Friday evening just to have some food and cocktails. I didn't expect much from the chain. All the food was pretty warm when we got it. Nothing stood out or even tasted like it has any seasoning to it. All the cocktails were very sugary and weak so I switched to water and vodka. Walking past the bar to go to the bathroom it stunk like cologne due to all the married men, or just bro friends watching golf. Ha! Won't go back but figured I'd give it a try. I'll try any restaurant once.

I have been here twice, last night being my second time. I must say that my very first visit was the best one, and I don't think my fiancee and I will be returning here. If you are looking for a nice time with a group of your girlfriends or a date with your significant other, I suggest that you go during the week between the hours of noon and 3:30pm. Saturday nights are not a good time to go. There were a lot of older men and women there. Not a whole lot of younger people, and the wait staff was not good at all. We were seated for over five minuets before someone actually came and took our order for drinks. One person at a table adjacent to us was holding up his glass for over five minuets just to get somebody's attention!! He had to ask a busboy to get another drink! The prices are really overpriced, and their menu needs revitalization, especially in the dessert section. There isn't enough selection. As far as the hostess staff, they were not friendly and seemed to cop an attitude. I am not sure if it was because it was near ten o'clock when we went or what, but it was unacceptable. When we decided to leave, our waiter didn't come check on us for over thirty minuets. If you want a decent time, and a younger crowd I'd say stick to Coach's across the street.

Went there for happy hour with my family on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't too busy and we got seated right away. Our waitress knew the menu very well and was very friendly and attentive! I ordered the mac & cheese with bacon and it was delicious! I'm not typically a mac & cheese person but I loved it. Totally recommend it and I would definitely come back again!
(4)Matthew B.
The chicken nachos were very good! Ceased salad was good, got chicken with not sure I liked the flavor of the chicken. Fried mac and cheese was very good too!

Blue Moose is like a larger Applebees with a little more of an upscale menu. It's a sports bar with a lot of large televisions. The bar looked great so did the drinks, although we didn't have any. The food was very good. Service was excellent. It's a nice place to throw a few back after work or catch a game on the big screen.
(3)Jon P.
Unique! I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with not only the service here, but also the food.... AND.... The "Mooserita". Matt was our service and the guy was exceptional, never interrupted us, brought us drinks on time, dude killed it. Love this place and will definitely will be coming back! Highly recommend!!!!
(5)Dan G.
Wooooow. Terrible service. I'll skip the lengthy story and get to the details. Five minutes to get greeted. Was greeted by two separate servers, neither sure of which would take care of us. Ten minutes to place entree order when there was a total of six tables for three servers. Waters were not refilled once. There was no check back during the meal, or during the appetizer. From the time we ordered to the check being dropped, the server was in the back. Was not offered dessert. on the bright side the food was decent. Will not be returning. Price tag does not justify the abysmal service and disregard for the customer experience.
(2)Chrissy H.
We gone several times and had good experiences. Not much of a wait time, good food, good service, and is a good place for kids.
(4)Tyler M.
Upon arrival the hostess instantly seemed frazzled, she asked if we wanted to sit it the lounge or the bar. We told her either was fine, whatever was best for her. She ushered us to the lounge citing that we would get better service because "the bartender [was] mad at her". Okay, kinda weird but so far no major issues. We were seated in a both where we sat for a good five minutes before being greeted by a server who took our drink orders..then we were greeted by a second server who also attempted to take our drink order. We informed her our drinks were already being taken care of, so she asked a third server if he had taken our order. Strike two? We placed an appetizer order, it came out in decent time..maybe this place just got off to a rough start...placed our entree orders and waited far longer than necessary with our empty dishes from our app still stacked on the table with nearly empty drinks. Entrees arrive, everything looks and tastes pretty decent to be entirely honest. Drinks are empty...Entrees half gone...no server to be seen. She doesn't come back until we're done, didn't ask how everything was, simply says "three seperate checks?" We attempted to complain with no real response beyond "well, there's shift changes so that's probably why." Striiiiiike three. The other staff of the restaurant seemed hopelessly lost and afraid of their customers and mostly hid in the back. So if you're looking for good food, I honestly would recommend this restaurant. To go. If you're looking for a place with phenomenal service, or any service for that matter, this is not the restaurant for you.
(2)Alyssa R.
I came here for Sunday brunch and it was pretty solid for a buffet. They had very different items then I thought there would be such as breakfast quesadilla as well as Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was amazing though!! They also had mimosas and bloody Mary's for $3.50 which was nice! Another cool thing is you can fill out what exactly you want for your omelette as well as eggs Benedict. Cooking to order is nice. The reason for my 3 stars.... There wasn't much food offered for this brunch. Plus the food that was offered, only some of it was up to my taste buds standards. I was super disappointed in the cinnamon rolls! They were dry and hard to chew. That was upsetting. Another thing is the service wasn't that great. I let them know it was the first time we have visited and it took forever for us to get our drinks and for them to refill. Also when asked for suggestions he didn't have much to say.

We were in Leawood, from Saint Paul, for a visit and our hosts suggested we try Blue Moose. We called ahead and were promptly seated (on a busy Saturday night) when we got there 1/2 hour later. Impressive. We were immediately given water by out friendly and hard-working waiter. The appetizer (mac and cheese balls) was first-rate, and our dinners were excellent. Penne Rustica and Atlantic salmon. Both were very good. Wait time was minimal. We will definitely go back.
(4)Dawn C.
I really like the Moose. Being from Canada I've seen a lot of Moose heads in my day, but that Blue Moose mounted over the Fireplace is a real kick! Fabulous! Group lunch on a weekday with the office crew. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant area in a big circular table. I worried we might not hear each other that well since it was a big table and it was a busy lunch hour... but the noise level was really at a minimum and we were all quite comfortable. I ordered the fig and caramelized onion flat-bread pizza. With Prosciutto! Oh be still my happy little heart, one of my favorite combinations and on a nice crispy thin crust pizza! Delicious! I enjoyed about half of it and had to box the rest up to eat later. Love that! I was enticed to try dessert and jumped at the creme brulee. It had been ages since I've had a ramekin of the stuff. (Remember when it was all the rage?) A nice trip down memory lane. Hot crispy sugary crust over thick, delicious generously vanilla flavored creme. Spot on. What a treat! My lunch companions all had different dishes and everyone was pleased. One particularly picky eater basically redesigned his entree from the ground up and the waiter & kitchen were very accommodating. When his dish arrived he kept marveling how wonderful it was. Fantastic menu, can't wait to go back and see what else tempts me.
(4)Arayna K.
Mac and cheese with ghost pepper cheese was great. Big portion, so you can definitely split with a friend. Not a ton of craft beer on tap, but there are several. Good small plate and appetizer list.
(4)Kelly S.
Our server was very nice and he was filling in from another location! I have a weird family that has not all worked in the service industry like me so I know how pissed I would be to wait on these individuals, I won't do into details, I'll just say, some can't make decisions(it runs in the family), some are just out of date with 2014 and a few are great like me;) Anywho, our service took it all in stride and had charm, I hope our tip sufficed! (I checked)

Went with a work function. We had reservations and things went well. The appetizers were good. The next day I went for lunch with a friend. That's when things went bad. They were understaffed and it took them 45 minutes to bring our food out. Then they messed up the order. I asked our server if they could do anything for us to make up for the lost time. He gave my buddy a free Pepsi. That's the best blue Moose could do for us. Ridiculous. I won't be back anytime soon, it's not the servers fault they were understaffed. But a manager should at least have came out and apologized to us. The sad thing about it is the managers and/ or owners will read this and do nothing about it. I challenge the owners to contact me to make up for this so I can come back and see what makes this a great place. I Work five minutes away from here and I know a lot of people at work. When they ask for a restaurant recommendation sadly I cannot give them the name blue moose.
(2)Greg O.
The four stars are mainly for the artichoke bisque. I wish I got the bigger bowl of it. It was some of the best soup I ever had. I also got the spicy chicken salad, which was very good. But that bisque, wow.
(4)Jillian C.
Drinks: chocolate martini and candy cane martini. Food: pork belly and beet salad. Everything was yummy. One complaint about the seasonal martini: sadly the "red stripe" element was done with raspberry puree which really didn't go well with the candy cane peppermint whatever flavor. Oh well, the chocolate martini sort of made up for it. I wanted a larger plate of the pork belly...way good.
(4)Chris T.
Poor customer service. We had a reservation at 6:45. But had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Then. Took over an hour just to take our order. Laslty, they held our checks for an hour just because they thought people dinned and ditch when they paid for the food at the bar. 3 hours just for a dinner is unacceptable. Wont ever go back.
(1)Heather P.
Pricey for what I got and only so-so on the flavor, to be honest. A grilled chicken wrap with sweet potato fries and my tab with tip was $17? I'm thinking Chik Fil A would have been cheaper. They did well with my special order for no cheese or dairy but that typically is not too hard of a request to meet these days. Service was extremely attentive especially for how chaotic it was in my server's section with a private party taking over the bar adjacent to her tables. She had the hardest time getting through the crowd but I can say that my water glass never ran dry. She and the fact that they have sweet potato fries saved this review for Blue Moose. I wish I could remember her name to give her proper credit but it has been too long now. Shame on me for not finishing the review when I was there. That said, for less money, I can get similar food and cheaper drinks (if I choose to drink) at Coach's across the street. They are also not high on my list but I was pretty disappointed with how ratio of quality vs expense at Blue Moose. There must be better dishes there to keep the crowds that they consistently have but I don't get it based on what I experienced.

So just went to Blue Moose for the first time ever. I was there for less than 5 minutes. I sat myself at the bar. The bartender said he would be with us in just a moment. He decided instead of greeting us it was more important to load his dirty dishes into the dish washer and clean off the dirty clothes from a past customer across the bar. He then came over too see what bfe could get us to drink ( still no hello). I asked for iced tea and many husband asked for water. The bartender proceeded go over and start making our drinks ( oh I forgot to mention he still had not washed his hands since he cleaned up the dirty dishes and area from the previous customers) so he touched the ice in my drink and my husband's drink and then he touched the fruit. So when he brought the drinks over we told him thank you but NO thank you we were going to go somewhere else because he had touched everything with his dirty hands and his response was WHATEVER! So we left. I then asked to speak too the manager. The manager came over hey name was Jodi Blackburn i explained why were we leaving she seemed very concerned. She offered to get us another server we opted not to stay this time. She said she was very sorry that that wad Not her standard. She then offered to cook the food for us if we stayed but by this point we were already turned off by the quality of service. We may give it a try again later. Not real sure at this point.

Want to love this place as it's close to home... But it misses every time on small, easy things.
(3)Bill F.
Went back a few more times - the Mac and cheese is easily the best item on the menu. Disappointed with pretty much everything else, but it's still a pretty solid place to grab a beer.
(4)Katie W.
I like going here for a beer and appetizers (fried artichoke hearts are delish!) , but someone needs to tell the management here that their host/hostess staff is terrible. Every time I have been here, there have been no less than 3 people standing around looking bored as hell and doing (seemingly) absolutely nothing (besides occasionally socializing with each other). Last time my husband and I went there, we requested to sit outside, and the kid at the front told us they were full out there. Upon trying to scope out some seating in the bar, we saw a completely empty and clean table in the middle of the patio. My only other complaints about the Blue Moose are that the bar can get pretty packed, and on nights when they have live music, it is often way too loud (especially when the only available table in the bar is right in front of the band.) The crowd is not exactly the youngest or the hippest, but it's a great spot for a laid back mid week beer with a friend or sig other, and nothing beats $2 beers on Thursdays! (and the waitstaff is really friendly and professional from what I can tell).
(3)Emily F.
I sat in the bar this time w/ a girlfriend and had to go outside because it was so loud. Its like a pick-up joint for Johnson Country middle age adults. Music was so loud and service was underwhelming as we had to ask for menus and a server. Food is good but not sure i'll make it back anytime soon. Not to mention we were outside and you can enter from the patio. THREE guys hit our table hard without any apology, it was amazing!
(3)Lauren M.
They have one of my favorite patio's in OP. It's clean, has comfy furniture and TV's. I go there on Wednesday nights with my girlfriends for 1/2 price wine night. It's a great deal and we've always had great service. Highly recommend.
(5)Dan S.
I have been here 3 times and each time I was very impressed! I have had the Mahi fish tacos, which were INCREDIBLE. The portion size is slightly small but it is on the skinny menu, so it makes since. I've gone there on Thursday night for all you can eat fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, flakey and juicy with a great batter coating. For lunch the other day I got a grilled smoked turkey pesto panini with sweet potato french fries. AWESOME. Great service, amazing food. You won't be disappointed!

Enjoyed a new experience at Blue Moose. Since we had a great Groupon offer, we decided to try this restaurant. A nice side note is that Tuesday evenings they offer $10.00 bottle of wines. We experienced the Jargon and found it quite nice and smooth. For an appetizer we ordered the chicken quesadillas, which were outstanding. The outside texture was cooked to perfection and the side salsa and dip were fabulous. My husband ordered the shrimp & chicken curry, and he didn't offer one complaint! I think he enjoyed it greatly. I ordered the spinach and strawberry salad. Sadly, I was disappointed with the dressing. Being a big fan of salads, I was surprised. I guess that it was just a bit too sweet for me as I normally enjoy the fresh, real taste of the salad itself...just a personal taste. Now dessert was a different issue! Oh my! the chocolate torte was unbelievable! Out of this world good. Regina was our server and just as sweet as she could be. She was able to explain the e-club and Rewards club quite well. All in all, they offer many specials throughout the week, so I imagine we will be back to visit. The location is good for us. Aesthetically, the interior is very appealing; nicely and tastefully decorated.
(4)Erin W.
Good food. Beer choices are pretty good as well. Kind of an upscale bar & grill. Service was inattentive but we weren't in a hurry so we were alright. Might be back but not set on it
(3)Beth B.
My husband and I came here for dinner Friday night around 7:30. It was about a 20 minute wait, which wasn't bad. Overall, the server was very attentive, the food was OK, although overpriced, but it took a long time to get our food. The details: For drinks, I had a Moosarita (signature margarita) which was on special for $3.50, and the hubby had a bourbon and coke $4.25. These were fine. For food, I had the grilled mahi mahi tacos and hubby had a burger. The tacos were $10.99 and came with two tacos, about a cup of rice and a cup of black beans. It was good, but a bit overpriced. Hubby's burger was fine (about $10), but both of our meals tasted like they had sat for awhile. Not sure if this was the kitchen's fault or the server's fault. Food was OK, but nothing to rave about. Server was very attentive, the atmosphere was typical bar (lots of TVs) but I think this place is tryihng to be more upscale than that. We might go back for just drinks and maybe appetizers, but would probably not eat there again for dinner.
(2)Sabrina W.
been there and loved the place! amazing drink specials on thursday
(4)Katie G.
SO bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We got cake and they forgot to put the sugar in it...a separate time we got Caesar salad and it was super sweet! Worst restaurant around Overland Park! The only time I would ever be caught dead in there again would be to have a beer or soda.
(1)Justin M.
This place is confusing. It's part sports bar (lots of TVs, goofy wall decor, typical bar food menu, good beer selection). It's part up scale restaurant (great wait service, concerned management, quiet setting, upscale furnishings, high prices). The management seems confused about what they want the Moose to be. We came to watch the Jayhawks lay another beat down on the Tigers, expecting a lively atmosphere, but the place was empty. It's too bad too because it was a great place to watch a game with giant projection TVs and good food. The only alcohol special was some type of martini, so the Moose could probably draw a bigger game night crowd with some beer and food specials. Boulevard Amber on tap is great, but not for the price of a six pack. My burger exceeded my expectations, but it was a bit pricey at $8.99. Overall, I liked it here. I'm just not sure what the experience was supposed to be about. At least, we got to enjoy another blowout in the Border War. Rock Chalk!
(3)Kristin G.
My favorite dish is the chicken and shrimp curry dish. Tonight I tried the build your own Mac & Cheese - added truffle oil and pork belly. I would get it again. But curry still my favorite. Love going here on Tuesday nights for $10 bottles of certain wines.
(4)Nancy F.
It's a good deal for happy hour. Half price drinks and appetizers. We had hummas and chicken quesidillas for appetizers. We also had a lemon drop martini , black tie affair and beer. Beer selection was ok . My husband had a kc steak. We also had salads, mac and cheese and chicken tenders. It was all ok but not great. The Blue Moose off of K 10 is better.
(3)Alliey D.
In all sincere honesty, ignore the bad reviews please or you will really be missing out. My boyfriend and I have been coming here on an almost weekly basis(if not more) for almost a year now, and the service and food have always been awesome. To be specific, the fried pickles will literally make you cry because they're so good, their artichoke bisque goes great with EVERYTHING, their nachos are simple yet amazing for such a typical recipie, and the burgers are my boyfriends favorite- beating Five Guys and even SmashBurger(which I thought was impossible). You can literally order allmost anything off this menu and it will be amazing. Please ignore all the bad reviews, it is not over-priced and there is not poor service- take it from a Blue Moose lover by experience ;)
(5)Scott B.
The Blue Moose, obviously named for the props of blue moose, seasonally adorned with xmas decorations, is a decent spot to stop in for a drink as long as this isn't your ultimate destination. The service is friendly, and atmosphere is okay, and the prices are average. Didn't eat, so no food review. Overall, this place seemed rather gimicky and overrated.
(2)Jeff L.
Braised short ribs were hearty. They could have been more tender but the spicy flavor made up for it
(4)steve f.
Wow! Awesome Bacon & Blue Cheese Burger. Thursday night "Cheap Beer" night is really fun. Good live music, fun crowd, pretty girls... all together a really fun place.
(4)Tony P.
I typically go here for drinks and appetizers on Thursdays, since they have such an awesome deal. $1.50 mostly any beers and half price appetizers. I'm pretty sure you have to be a KC Hopps card member for the $1.50 beers, but it's well worth it. They do charge you $20 up front for the card, but when you register they give you $20 in credit for next time so it pays for itself. We usually order appetizers or the small plates which have always been pretty good. The crab cakes, chipolte quesadillas, and nachos are my favorites. I've also had their ribs, which are similarly good compared to their sister restaurant Barleys. If you do plan on showing up for the specials, get there early because this place and their parking lot fills up quick!
(4)Julia F.
I was not impressed by the Blue Moose Bar and Grill. The restaurant is overly noisy and there are televisions scattered about the dining room, making conversation over dinner a near impossibility. The food was adequate, but not a great combination of flavors. The chicken tenders were among the saddest I've ever seen: small, over cooked, poorly seasoned. I had heard good things about the artichoke bisque - large size $4.99 - however, I don't think I would order it again. I was disappointing. Yet, at a significantly cheaper cost than the rest of the overpriced fare, at least my disappointment came cheaper than the other five members of our party. The service was adequate but slow. Between the unpleasant atmosphere, the boring menu, mediocre service and jarringly bad value for the disappointing food, I am unlikely to return.
(2)Aaron G.
The blue moose hanging on the wall looked as confused, dazed, and shocked as I was when I came to this place. I could not get a handle on what the theme was here. I look at the menu and there are a lot of Mediterranean options, which was cool, but then there was this big blue moose hanging on the wall with some whacked out, red vein busted, crack looking, red bull drinking, cigaweed smoking, bigga booga bad EYE BALLZ looking at me all crazy like, "What kinda weed you smokin!?!" This moose looked like he had a fight with Blueberry flavored Mr. Koolaid. I couldn't even really eat my food cause every time I took a bite, this thing was staring at me like I was next to hang on the wall. The food was okay and the service was alright. Nothing spectacular and definitely way over priced.
(2)Rachel P.
Decent service, tad overpriced, and the atmosphere is a little jarring. Nothing too special about this restaurant but I did want to mention their fried pickles - beer battered (not with cornmeal), long-sliced pickles with a delicious garlic ranch sauce. I think this menu item is common among the KC Hopps restaurants, so look for it at places like Barley's too! The crabcake sandwich is also worth a try - comes with arugula and a really good remoulade. If you're in the area and looking for something a littler better than your run-of-the-mill Chili's or Applebee's, give this place a try.
(3)Jessica H.
I've had several things from their menu and have loved them all. I love being able to build my own mac & cheese. Really enjoyed the fried pickles too! We always go on Thurs. nights for the beer special.
(5)Paul B.
Ate here on November 1. This was the first time my wife and I had eaten here in awhile but we're sure glad we came back. I had the strip steak which was just the right size and cooked exactly as requested. I usually don't order strips in a restaurant as I have gotten some with a lot of gristle but this one had none. (I normally order filets but they didn't have one on the menu, the waiter told me they will be adding one soon). My wife had chicken & shrimp curry and loved it. Service was fine and we felt their prices were right where they should be.
(4)Ed W.
Went to a dinner meeting at Blue Moose and want to report service was great no pressure always pleasant. Then the food was excellent. I just has the Italian sausage sandwich which was the best I think I can remember. The meat was cooked just right and the peppers were grilled enough for flavor without being burned. I hear that the other sausage specials are just as tasty.
(5)Philip A.
Went for lunch and tried the turkey pesto panini and it was quite good; I thought it might be a little bland but it was very tasty. I tried the cole slaw which was neither memorable nor forgettable, so it worked as a good foil to the buttery richness of the sandwich. Great lunch idea. My lunch companion tried the Mahi fish tacos and said they were very good, and they looked it.

This location is new in outer Overland Park. I gave it a try last night after going to a movie in town. The parking lot was crowded, but after 10:00 p.m. the dining area was empty. The bar and outside patio were full, though. After 10:00 p.m. they switch to a small late-hours menu that's basically pizza. I ordered the Classic and it was a nice pepperoni, sausage and cheese pizza on a crispy thin crust. There was also a Chicken Pesto pizza and a Thai-One-On version that looked like they might be worth trying. They have Guinness on draft, along with several Boulevard choices, which is a point in their favor! Also, they stay open fairly late, serving until midnight or 1:00 a.m., which is worth knowing here in the outer burbs! The friendly server said that they're going to start serving weekend brunch in September. I wish they'd have a somewhat more extensive menu for latecomers -- burgers, at least. It's not far from where I live, so I'll give it another try during regular hours and report back on the food then. As for the reviewer who found their salad far too salty, it should have been sent back. I know this is the Midwest and we're "nice," but there's no excuse to put up with something you find inedible. But hopefully things will shake down soon and this will be a nice local addition to the choices in suburbia, especially for something after normal suburban dining hours! (BTW, other places I've found out here that serve late-ish are TGI Friday's in Oak Park Mall -- kitchen open 'til 1:00 a.m. -- and Houlihan's, which has a small plates menu later in the evening.) Lunch update: I went in for a late lunch, around 4:00 p.m. Once again the bar and patio were crowded. The dining area began filling up as it got closer to 5:00. I ordered the fish and chips, which I hadn't had in a while. The fish was crispily battered, and moist and flaky on the inside. The chips were a little limp, but tasty. The fish was served with tartar sauce, but they had malt vinegar available for authentically dousing the fish and the chips, British style. My very friendly waitperson kept my coffee cup constantly refilled. The hostess talked me into having dessert -- one of their monthly specials, a lemon-lime cheesecake. It was amazingly dense and quite good, but it could have been more tart for my taste. (You can hardly get too tart for my taste, but that's another story.) On the bill they wrote an invitation to come for brunch, staring in mid-September. All in all this seems like a friendly, convivial place that's a nice addition to the neighborhood.

I really like their spinach salad that they have here among some other things that are on their menu. Every Thursday they have a good happy hour that gets pretty busy and includes specials on a decent selection of import and craft beer. The crowd here seems to be a little older (I would guess aged 30-40), but regardless I still have a good time meeting friends for some appetizers and drinks here.
(4)Charles R.
Tried brunch with three friends today. "Chef's Frittata" pretty good. "Breakfast potatoes" great. Another person at the table liked their grilled breakfast sandwich. Service attentive and pleasant. Sunday morning business was steady. I don't understand the "middle-aged" vibe another reviewer was complaining about. If you don't like eating with adults, go play outside.

Pizza was good but the beer was expensive and the service was ok at best. Thursday's are when you need to go for cheap beers.

I have been to the 71st St Blue Moose and had a great experience so I assumed this would be the same, but that was not true. I went with two others for Restaurant Week, but ended up skipping the Restaurant Week menu because it was pretty pricy for the amount of food they offered. Which at a $15 lunch that really isn't much food. It seemed most of the issues were in the kitchen. The service was good and the manager made everything right at the end of the meal, but I was already done with me meal by the time my friend's food even got to the table and the other diner who ordered a hamburger received an overcooked burger. All tasted just OK, but don't assume you know when it will come out and that the entrees will be served together or as you have specified. I will stick to the 71st St location.
(2)Jeremy S.
Ordered Fish and Chips. Wish I had gotten something else. It was extremely fishy tasting, and watery. Got the German Chocolate cake, it was supposed to be the desert special of the month. It was a bit on the dry side. If I go back, I will never order any of this again.
(2)Gregg R.
Blue Moose Bar and Grill always looks packed, but I realize it's mainly for the drink & app crowd in the bar. We had very little wait for dinner although the parking lot was completely full. I'm not sure why this place appears popular--I see it as an average restaurant. Inside the food was average--just your typical KC Hopps restaurant. Service was average. It was a "who's who" inside--lots of familiar faces from the business world, a sports personality and the neighborhood. All said--it was an average experience and I will probably not head back anytime soon.
(3)Stephanie L.
This is a nice place to meet up friends and get some drinks. The outdoor patio is a very small place so, if you want a seat, you'd do better if you were there early to get dinner as well. Here is where you can find bar food, sports, and beer (It's not a hardcore sports bar though).

You know the stereotype of Johnson County residents? SUV driving folks who pop the collar on their pink polo while heading to the golf course or their soul-less corporate job from their bland McMansion? Well, if you want to prove this stereotype true, spend a Friday evening at the Blue Moose. Our evening started with possibly the crankiest hostess I have ever encountered. When we went to arrange the high chair with our infant in between us and out of the aisle she made a snarky comment about not blocking the servers as they came out with food. Why was this necessary? We were already in the process of moving him and attempting to be polite and unobtrusive. I don't expect everyone to love my kid, but there is also no reason to snap at people who happened to bring along a well behaved and quiet kiddo. Not the greatest tone to start your meal with. Our server seemed to be a newbie, so I'll give him some slack for not getting our drinks quickly, not being super knowledgeable about the menu, or not always being terribly attentive. What I can not forgive is that it took nearly five minutes after we got our food to get flatware. He claimed that there weren't any prepared rolls of flatware, which is believable, but I don't understand what took him so long to roll two napkins with some knives and forks. I didn't really need it rolled, I needed to start eating my food. And about the food... the Crab Cake Sandwich was quite tasty. I liked the tangy arugula combined with the spices of the crab cake and the sauce. The fries were ok, but nothing spectacular. The Fish and Chips was mediocre at best, but the tartar sauce seemed to be made in house. We ate outside, which was nice, but the interior seemed loud and crowded with middle aged suburban types out on amateurs night. I should have listened to the other Yelp reviewers, but the crowded parking lot, appealing outdoor seating, and cute mascot appealed to me too much. I might try to give this place another shot, but with their prices being relatively high for mediocre food and a mind-numbing crowd it'll be a long while before I make my way back.

I went on a Monday night with family, less people. Service was friendly, our drinks were filled in a timely fashion. I ordered the Chicken arugula salad. The arugula was very strong. I ordered the salad dressing on the side, normally I don't use it but since it was so strong I used it. I thought the chicken salad was tasty. It would have been nice if it came with a side of fruit or even cornbread as I still felt hungry afterwards. My cousins ordered a chicken curry dish and also a pasta dish, they said both were tasty. Their kids had the corndog bits and a chicken dish that came with a cookie and a spoonful of ice cream on top, they both seemed happy with their meals, especially their free dessert. There is actually a blue moose inside, it's kind of fun. On the outside it looks like a dive, but inside fun for the kiddos very much the family setting. Besides all the negative reviews, I thought the food was good.

Slow service, average quality food and above average prices equate to not again...

My husband and I live close to the Blue Moose so we have been there often. The first couple of times, we had no complaints. The past three times going there have been nightmares. Each time we waited almost an hour to receive our food after we placed our order. Once of those times 2 out of 3 meals were cold. Another time, I ordered a filet mignon and my husband ordered the short ribs. His arrived and mine took another 30 minutes to get to the table. Upon arrival, my steak was raw when I ordered it medium well. They made me a new one but by that time, we had it put in a to go container since it was getting so late. Wait staff is ok but management needs to figure something out quick. The times I have been there, we've noticed many other tables waiting a very long to receive their food as well. After trying to give them another chance to redeem themselves, we were sadly disappointed. We will not be returning.

I'm still trying to get the salt taste out of my mouth. I actually like the Blue Moose in Prairie Village; they have a good Sunday brunch and artichoke bisque. This new location, however, did not impress me. I actually looked at the menu description online again after I ate the Herb Roasted Veggie Salad with Goat Cheese. Sounds delicious right? It was okay, but I think they spilled a pound of salt seasoning on mine. Or the menu just failed to mention anything about ingesting your week's worth of sodium intake at lunch. I'm still dehydrated 6 hours later!

I go to Blue Moose about three times a month, always on Tuesdays, always for $10 bottles of wine. The food is incredibly mediocre--the best thing I've found is the gyro wrap (pay extra for grilled chicken) with the sweet potato fries. All of their food is a little inconsistent, though. I'd say the wrap is good about 80% of the time. The spinach dip was really good one night. But the next time I had it, it was watery and cold. The sesame chicken was odd. The hummus is pretty good, but extremely overpriced. Although, most of their food is very pricey. I don't think you can order anything for under $8 or $9. I've tried three different desserts, all of which tasted like they had been defrosted from the Costco freezer (and not in a good way). I agree with Scott M. that the cheesecake crust was very dense and tough. So, almost every week, my friends and I meet up for wine night. We sit in the bar and share a couple $10 bottles of wine. We try to eat the food, then we complain amongst ourselves...but we keep going back for that Tuesday night wine special! I'm hoping when Coach's opens across the street that either (1) Blue Moose steps up it's game on the food side or (2) Coach's offers a weekly wine special.

My friend and I went out to lunch at the Blue Moose on January 27, 2012. I was going to order the appetizer size of the shrimp and chicken curry and then remembered that that was what I had ordered the only other time I'd been there and had been very disappointed with it. Our waiter had commented then that that definitely wasn't one of their better choices. I decided to try the fish tacos on the low cal menu. I've had these at many places and always been pleased. My friend ordered the chicken pesto campanelle from the low cal menu. I mistakenly thought my tacos were $7.99. I think that must have been the price of the curry. We were both very disappointed with our meals. Her chicken was dry, she had a miniscule portion of pasta. My 2 tacos were incredibly small and I had about a tablespoon each of beans, salsa, etc. It was pitiful. We understood that when we ordered from the low cal menu we would be getting smaller portions but this was REALLY small. We questioned the server about the portion and he agreed that it was very small. He was a nice guy. What else could he say? We were still hungry so decided to order a chocolate torte to split for dessert .The server said not to order the mini desserts, they were just too small. This was marginal at best. We should have just skipped it since our main dishes were so poor. When I got the bill I saw that my tacos (2 3 inch tacos) were $10.99! My bill (not including my friend's meal) came to right around $18 with tip after we split the cost of the torte. This was such a incredibly bad value. I would NEVER eat there again. There are so many great places in OP to go for lunch or dinner and this is not one of them. And just so you know, this is the first review of a restaurant that I have ever written. It was that bad. But... our server was courteous.

(4)Heather P.
(2)Lauren M.

We gone several times and had good experiences. Not much of a wait time, good food, good service, and is a good place for kids.
(4)Christie F.
(5)Shawn H.
(2)Chris T.
(1)Tyler M.

Mac and cheese with ghost pepper cheese was great. Big portion, so you can definitely split with a friend. Not a ton of craft beer on tap, but there are several. Good small plate and appetizer list.

Good food. Beer choices are pretty good as well. Kind of an upscale bar & grill. Service was inattentive but we weren't in a hurry so we were alright. Might be back but not set on it

(3)Andrew L.
(4)Maggie C.
(3)Pam T.
(3)Matthew B.
The chicken nachos were very good! Ceased salad was good, got chicken with not sure I liked the flavor of the chicken. Fried mac and cheese was very good too!
(5)Shawn H.
(5)Alisa S.
For happy hour... this place is great. Lunch is a different story. Service is a little slow... Menu is a bit overwhelming. I had the salmon club. Really good... but really messy. My date had the strawberry spinach salad with chicken... looked really good and he enjoyed it. Had to ask for the check.
(3)Christie F.
(4)Dan G.
(2)Gina M.
(4)Chrissy H.

(4)Julie S.
(2)Jillian C.

Good food. Beer choices are pretty good as well. Kind of an upscale bar & grill. Service was inattentive but we weren't in a hurry so we were alright. Might be back but not set on it

(4)Chris O.
Pizza was good but the beer was expensive and the service was ok at best. Thursday's are when you need to go for cheap beers.
(3)Bethanie W.

(2)Sarah S.

Slow service and just average food ...last time I go here

(3)Andrew L.
