About Taco Bell
Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.
The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.
Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

I just made it here recently, it tasted just like Taco John's. I have a history with this chain, as my late husband made it his major food group during his life in Lawrence KS. Crispy corn tortilla beef tacos with "super hot sauce", a hot green sauce. The super hot is why you should go to Taco John's. My usual meal is a couple of regular tacos (fried corn shell, taco meat, lettuce), with super-hot sauce, potato oles (a sort of seasoned tater tot round,) and a Pepsi. It's a pretty good fast food meal. I have a soft spot for this chain, but in my biased opinion it's pretty decent for fast food. Not healthy or anything like that :) Try the super hot sauce! It helps!

Let's be honest... Its a fast food taco place. But something about this place is way better than "that other joint". Love the stuffed grilled taco...take a crunchy taco filled with beef, cheese and sour cream, then wrap it in a flour shell with a nacho cheese sauce and grill it! Mmmmm. They have a "salsa bar" where you can pick from 4-5 sauces. Its not fancy but I really do like the mild...oh and its way better from the bar vs getting the packet in the drive thru...they are not the same!

Just went through the drive through with the windows down, my daughter in the back seat. Sitting there waiting my turn I hear yelling. I look over to see the manager berating a delivery driver saying that the truck was in the way. The truck was actually pulled over out of the way where people could easily drive around. I heard the driver apologizing even though he wasn't doing anything wrong. The manager yells "I don't give a sh*t". I don't care how good the food is. I'm not patronizing any place that would treat people that way. The driver showed great restraint while dealing with that. I'm also going to call the truck driver's company and let them know what a great job he did.

As far as fast food goes, TJs is one of my guilt pleasures! Consistent food no matter what location you go to. Meat and potato burrito is the best and how can you not like potato oles? They are like little round golden pieces of heaven!

I drove 30 minutes to get to the nearest Taco John's. I hadn't been since I was a kid and all of a sudden I want a churro. Upon entering, I was greeted by two kids who were eager to help me... and waited patiently while I gawked at the menu. They take your name and let you go have a seat and then bring your food out to you. High class. I got the number six, I think. It was a grilled taco. It had shredded cheese and nacho cheese in a hard shell taco, then a tortilla wrapped around that. It was quite good. The oles came with the meal and I had one just because they were there...yum! They have french fry powdered salt on them that make them irresistible. I tried the sweet tea, was weak on tea and strong on sugar. Bleck. The churro was just as I remember it.... totally worth the drive. They even asked if I wanted it with the meal or after, so it would be hot.

I drove clear across town to get me some Taco Johns. We get there at 930 and the only lights on were the ones inside the building...so we almost drove by it. So we thought we would sit at the drive through and after waiting for about 5 min, someone finally came up to take our order. Went to the window the pay, the guy says hold on...and left us there..took our payment and didn't say thank you or anything. After waiting forever finally got our food. Got home and order was missing items. So I did call them and they did agree to send me a coupon to remburse me for what was missing. ***It's been roughly 2 weeks later and we still have yet to see any kind of coupon in the mail...so not only did the service bite the dust, they have yet to keep their word. So I guess I'll just have to wait till I visit St. Joe, MO before I ever get Taco John's again. If there was an option for zero stars I would have choosen that instead.

The few times I've eaten at Taco John's it has been just ok. The last time I was there they were running 20 minute ticket times...you can watch the time for each order on the screens in the kitchen. 20 minutes for two combo burritos is outrageous at a place like this. Perhaps the management needs to be replaced. I don't usually do reviews based on something like this, but, again, this was unbelievable.
(1)Stephanie P.
I'll need cholesterol medication soon if I eat here again. There was so much salt on everything, it was unbearable. The tacos were boring, the potato oles were greasy and over seasoned. It's just not a good restaurant. What else can I say but meh?
(2)T D.
Taco paradise: soft shell, sour cream, extra hot salsa, potato ole's with cup o cheese. Don't mess with a good thing.
(5)Scott M.
My favorite place to get Fast Food Taco's. The Potato Ole's are always one of the best items on the menu
(4)Jim L.
Love this place. Great Ole's!
(5)Kristen L.
Yup this is a Tex-Mex Fast food joint and it's got a decent taco. There's also burritos, nachos, chili, breakfast burritos and salads too. I'm a fan of the taco bravo that's a sort of double decker taco with a hard shell inside a soft shell. I'm sure it's not healthy but when I'm in the mood for it, it's tasty. I also like their potato oles dipped in sauce. They are like mini hash browns with seasoning. If you want something sweet try a churro. It's sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. But be sure to keep it out of reach of your dog. I turned my back on night and mine disappeared, not happy.
(3)Sarah B.
Potato Oles, people. That's all I gots to say.
(4)ME E.
I kept hearing people talk about how excited they were that this place was opening in Olathe. I tried it and I don't understand why people like the food It lacks flavor and is very greasy. Someone actually said they would not go the first week that they opened since the grease would not have built up the flavor needed to make the food good. Yuck!
(1)Charley B.
Oh boy. Taco John's food is great for your taste buds, but probably not the best for your body... and I'm quite okay with it. The menu is standard Mexican fast food with tacos, burritos, nachos and a few other dishes that are reasonably priced with other fast food restaurants. It's a side dish, but I was hooked by the potato oles, a small bowl of tator tots with Mexican flavor salted on them with a side of queso cheese to dip them in. Trust me, they're just as good as they sound. The location is just off of I-35 and 151st Street near the Garmin headquarters. If you're in the area and need a quick bite to eat, this is a great place to be.
(4)Josh R.
A welcome change of pace from taco bell. It's simple really, the potatoe oles are to die for.
