This restaurant is the sister of Pardo's Grand Buffet Mexicano located on Southwest Blvd in KCMO. As far as I can tell, a twin sister. Pardo's is an authentic Mexican buffet. This should be stressed, as anyone entering Pardos expecting unlimited cheese drenched enchiladas and crispy tacos will be sorely disappointed. However, if you enter expecting delicious traditional dishes found in Mexican homes everywhere, you will be delighted. Much like any other buffet, you choose or are shown to your seat, and then asked what you would like to drink. Last I checked, neither this location or the one downtown serves alcohol (very disappointing). This would also be the time to request fresh hot tortillas; as I and most all other patrons only request corn tortillas, I don't know if they offer flour. Then attack the surprisingly extensive buffet. The first and smallest section is cold dishes. There is usually iceberg lettuce and various from a bottle dressings if you must have something resembling a salad, but there is usually a ceviche or two as well. Now I'll be the first to say that a healthy percentage of the time this ceviche looks a bit sketchy, but on the occasions that I've tried it, it has been rather delicious. For the most part, I skip the cold section, except for the salsas. The star is the hot food. There is always chili Colorado, typically pork, sometimes beef, stewed fork tender in a spicy red sauce, good stuff! Chile rellenos; poblano chiles stuffed with cheese, battered, and deep fried, wonderful, and a good place to start for those used to a more American style Mexican food. Whole fried tilapia, an endless supply; eat with salsa and tortillas. Beef soup, chichirones in sauce, shrimp, and several other things. Of course rice and beans. Arroz con leche for dessert (rice pudding). To be honest, I don't know exactly how much the buffet costs; but I believe its around $9. For this much down home Mexican cooking, well worth it!
