Mi Ranchito Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

No more driving up north for Rancho Grande! The cilantro in the salsa is such a win. The chips are never-ending and service is pretty quick. They are always PACKED. Go for Taco Tuesday! Soft shell tacos are $1.50 and hard shell are .$.99. Yes, $.99. They don't even skimp on the meat - ahhhhmazing.

Everything I've had is really good here, but I'd recommend the fried tacos and taco salad especially. They put a lot of seasoning into their meat and that's definitely a good thing. Always has really good service. Sometimes they seat you in a way that doesn't make sense (e.g. the entire back section by the patio door was open, but said only open seating was patio...in summer heat), but there's not usually too long of a weight. They have good weekly drink specials as well.

Ask for the hot salsa with your chips!!! It's perfectly spiced and goes great with their tacos. Taco Tuesdays include $2 hard or soft shell tacos--you can choose between chicken or beef. Service has always been superb, all of the wait staff seem very friendly. They also pour decently strong drinks--I wish they had more drink specials!

I wasn't really a fan. My food was drenched in some kind of inauthentic cheese which was overpowering for the dish. This is a local chain, not a national chain, but the food wasn't any better than a Chevys. The positives were a large size menu and friendly service.

The best peach frozen Marg I've had in a while!! Great service. Super fast and good for the price. Definitely somewhere to check out if you want a quick but satisfying bite to eat! And need a marg from a long day at work! :)

My boyfriend has been raving about this place and their espinaca as long as I've known him (over a year) so I had high expectations!! When we traveled from Pittsburgh to Kansas for a wedding, we made a special stop here. Looks like your typical Mexican restaurant. The highlight for me was the dips. We had the espinaca, guacamole, salsa and avocado sauce. All so delicious. I don't think there was conversation for a solid 10 minutes as we shoved our mouths full of light, crispy chips topped high with tasty dips. I had the chicken deep fried tacos, and they were just okay. They could have used a little more flavor which I created by topping them with the salsa and avocado sauce which has a refreshing tart lime taste. My boyfriend and his dad went for the cream cheese enchiladas which is apparently their favorite item and pretty much all they order. Tasty but still outshined by the dips according to my taste buds. Service started out great but really trailed off near the end when some large and loud groups came in. We had to flag down another waiter for the bill and to-go containers because two of us were in a rush for the airport. Overall, met my expectations. Would go back and try another item from their extensive menu.

The restaurant was a little crowded due to the seating. The gluten free quesadilla was fantastic. I also had the fajita. The fajita was not the best I ever had but it was solid. The server was very helpful and friendly. The chips were at our table before we even sat down. The server also replaced our chips when we ran out without us ever asking which was nice. Each person got their own salsa dish which I have never seen before. Overall, I was very satisfied with this establishment

Always love the food at Mi Ranchito but tonight we got charged 8.75 for a chicken breast for my picky eater...no sides. Seemed excessive and manager refused to change the price. May have to make K Macho our go to for Mexican.

We are frequent fliers here. We usually come in for taco Tuesday. Can't beat 99 cent tacos but the last few times we have been disappointed. There is not as much in the tacos as before and when I asked if they had any guacamole salsa she told me no but the people seated in front of us got some and they were seated after us. Then we got the bill and when it came time to pay we waited 20 mins for her to come back and she never did so we had to ask someone else to take care of it.

I'm going to update my previous review because I think they must have been having a bad night on my last visit. More recently, the overall impression has been a little better -- food was solidly good, and the place seems a little less dirty & chaotic. Still a deafening noise level due to the overcrowded layout of the tables. They could really do with a couple fewer tables crammed into the middle, but they seem to fill them up regularly, so I guess they feel like they need the seats. I had a pretty tasty chimi last time, nicely fried without being too greasy. Ask for the hot salsa, it's way better than the mild that they put on the table by default. (I mix the two together for a nice medium-heat taste) There's usually some good nightly specials, and the margaritas are still tasty.... Not my very favorite Mexican in the area, but a nice choice to have in the neighborhood.

Pros: good food and great service Cons: cramped and loud, booths are a tight squeeze, usually a wait on weekends We like eating here because the food is very tasty and the service is usually friendly and upbeat. It seems like everyone working here is on top of their game. I haven't had anything here that I didn't like and we haven't had a bad experience. The Burrito Feliz and combo plate #6 are two of my favorites. To be clear, this is what I call "Americanized" Mexican food. Lots of cheese slathered on top of starchy burritos or enchiladas with a side of beans and rice. Other than the Chile Relleno, you're not going to find a vegetable anywhere. My minor gripes are that it's popular, so there is always a wait on the weekends. It's also a very tightly packed space, so some of the booths are a tight squeeze. It's also loud, so not a place to have a relaxing conversation with someone.

Still sitting in the restaurant to write this review because the food is just so sub par. Kind of mad i even have to pay for it. The pork was so dry it was like chewing on leather. The chicken feliz was dry and freaking nasty. Is Espinaca a midwest thing? because its just cheese and spinach, nothing to rave about. Mad i wasted my calories and cheat day on such nasty food. I will never go there again! Taco Bell has better food.

My favorite restaurant :) I go here at least once a week for lunch. The cream cheese chicken enchiladas are to die for! The chips and salsa and the Espinaca dip are very yummy as well as their daiquiris and margaritas :) you pay a small amount and get so much food! The staff is super friendly as well, and the manager is always checking up on everyone to make sure they are enjoying their visit! I am very picky with my Mexican food but everything here is delicious!

I LOVE MI RANCHITO. Drinks: The Margaritas are amazing. Ask for a strawberry mango with sugar on the rim. Appetizers: The espinaca dip is a MUST HAVE. It is insanely delicious. Entree: I always get the cream cheese chicken enchiladas with no beans and extra rice! The combination of flavors is to die for. This is a MUST VISIT place for anyone in the Kansas City area.

We've been going here since they opened. The service is fantastic and so is the food! My family is a tad finicky, they don't like tomatoes, sour cream etc. They always get our orders right and it's always delicious!

I'm pleasantly surprised. Chips were great, salsa was amazing, chili Verde was almost as good as I'm used to. I had a shredded beef taco on the side, it was also good. The Margarita was meh, decent. Overall I'm happy to have experienced it.

Really delicious food. Had the guacamole appetizer and carne asada quesadillas that was loaded with steak and chorizo...heaven! Their salsa was good though I could've gone a little spicier. Mom got the green enchiladas and, although she was thinking it was going to be something else, the spotless plate she left made me think she loved what she had. Our server and busser, Didra and Maritza, were phenomenal and attentive even though the place was crowded and busy. I would have given this place 5 stars. My only complaint is that we seemed to have come in the back door, which looks like the front door facing 119th street. There were several people standing there that were waiting for a table but no clear indication of a hostess stand or anyone that immediately greeted us and took our names. It's not until I decided that the whole set up was odd and I walked to the other end of the restaurant that I realized there was actually another entrance with a hostess stand...then all was right with the world again.

Honest food & Margs. Nice people. Food can be chaotic and often so can the clientele. Fairly good salsa's and good portions.

Great: sangria, salsa, espinaca dip, green salsa Not so great: long waits and crowded seating during peak hours I'm not huge on this kind of Mexican food, but I like this place in a pinch.

Bight fun fresh Mexican, great service. Great selection from small soup and salad lunch (tortilla soup with cute tasty chicken taco salad) to full sampler. Great value.

We've been eating at Mi Ranchito for more years than I can remember. Every single meal has been delicious! In Olathe, it seems that Mi Ranchito is everyone's favorite Mexican restaurant. The staff are friendly, polite and efficient. The staff & management treat customers more like guests in their home. And year after year, one will notice that in an industry with lots of turn-over in staff, these staff members stay. And the customers stay! We love Mexican food and we're very picky. They've raised their prices a little over the past 2 years, but Mi Ranchito's food, staff, & quality in both Olathe branches can not be beat by anyone else in town.

Quite good local KC chain! I stopped in for lunch with a few friends and we were all so satisfied! They give you chips and a bowl of salsa for each person which is really nice. They refill both very quickly if you run out. We started off with the cheese and spinach dip (really, really delicious) and guacamole (not bad). Most of us ordered the special which was guacamole and shrimp enchiladas which came with veggies, rice, and beans. Huge portion for the price ($11) and quite tasty! I also ordered a house margarita which was pretty good for a marg made with a mix. I would definitely go back! if I'm in the area and have a hankering for Mexican!

We were promptly seated for weekday lunch & our server was very attentive, immediately bringing drinks and taking our order. The prices are a bit high compared to other Mexican places for lunch but everything was very fresh and tasty. I love the chicken avocado salad served on a baked flour shell - I liked the healthier choice instead of the typical fried shell. The chicken was excellent and there was plenty of it for the $6.99 lunch price. Lots of fresh avocado and lettuce made for a very filling meal. My companion got the salad and tortilla soup - she really enjoyed it as well ($7.99). The Espinaca dip is a MUST as well ($3.99). We started with the dip and it was delicious on our salads as well. The chips were tasted fresh but I would have loved it they were served warm. Overall, tasty and quick lunch- a bit pricy but great for a treat every now and then!

This location as well as their other venues around town make Mi Ranchito a favorite destination on the Kansas side of the border. As others have indicated, the service is always spot on here, chips and salsa and drinks are quickly refilled when needed, and the food is always hot and tasty. The price point is awesome as well. Many of your favorites served up for under bucks and usually needing a to-go box to enjoy for a late night snack or lunch the next day. Fajitas are a little more expensive but your sizzling plate runneth over with meats and veggies. It's far from traditional, but Mi Ranchito continues to serve up quality Tex-Mex options for Johnson Countians to enjoy.

My husband and I frequent this restaurant often. The food is good. I really like the salsa! The service is hit and miss. We had great service at the bar one night and the next time we sat at the bar the service was not good at all. This has happened when sitting at a table too. Sometimes the service is awesome, other times not so much. Overall, a good place to eat. On Friday and Saturday nights from 9-11 pm you can get $2 dollar margaritas!

Delicious as always and handled our party of nine with ease. No wait at lunch but can get pretty busy on the weekends. If you like Mexican food (not true authentic Mexican) you'll love mi ranchito!

Best espanaca ever! The food is fantastic and the service is always wonderful. The chicken cream cheese enchiladas are amazing. I always order tacos with refried beans or chile rellenos...my favorite. The big plus is that they have the best horchata here and are one of a few restaurants who serve it. 100% my top Mexican restaurant in KC.

Fine, but underwhelming, given the preponderance of really decent Tex-Mex and Mexican places you could go. But if you get invited to meet people for dinner, like I did, and this is their restaurant of choice, it'll do. The good: Prompt service. LAAAARGE portions. A variety of preparations of a few different types of entrees. Unlike some other reviewers experienced, my chips were warm (and abundant). I like that they serve individual bowls of both the regular and the hot salsa. Chimichanga was indeed "lightly" fried (like a step past burrito), which makes ya feel a little less guilty than when you get one that resembles a huge eggroll... Nice waitstaff, friendly and attentive. The meh: Most of their stuff seems to be heavy on the cream and cheese sauces, and while going out for Tex-Mex isn't really something you do if you're watching your girlish figure, overall, It would be nice for variety's sake if most things weren't doused with rich sauces. I like a rich cream sauce as much as the next person, but it's nice to have options. Pretty small, narrow space for much of the restaurant, and a little tough to move around in. Nothing about it was bad, just nothing about it was amazing. Solid enough, if you're in the area and aren't needing to be wowed.

Taco Tuesdays are the reason of my existence... Their frozen mango margarita is also delicious. Combine the two and you've got yourself a Tuesday you won't remember.

Our favorite Mexican spot around town. And it happens to be not far from our home. Who would have thought a little place adjacent to a car service shop would be so great! Guy Fiery must definitely feature this is his show. The food is outstanding - super fresh with a bizzaz for sure - and more traditional Mexican than Americanized, which we appreciate. Salsa is fantastic! Our kids adore their mac & cheese. Try their Acapulco shrimp tacos. Best. Ever. Period.

This used to be our favorite mexican food rest. but it has gone down hill over the past year or so, the service is usually hectic and they forget about refilling your salsa or drinks often. We went there for dinner tonight and we have felt kind of ill before coming home but tonight was really bad our enchiladas were just off, tasted either like freezer burned or just BAD, and both the wife and myself got ill about an hour after eating there and both threw up.. in years past we saved our to go boxes and made Mexican omelets for B-fast but this time we just chucked them into the trash.. Also, and we ordered just plain house margs very clearly stated "house" and when the bill came discovered that they had premium listed on the check, so 2 entrees = $20, 2 margs = $21 .. kinda wasn't expecting that one..

Listen closely: MACHACA BEEF. Oh my goodness it is SO YUMMY. This place was CROWDED on a recent rainy Saturday night about 9 pm, but they got us in at a table by the kitchen. It's kind of loud, especially when it is packed, but we got service immediately and consistently throughout our meal. The manager/owner was a little lingering to a point of being a bit uncomfortable, but at least he shows pride in what he does and displays that in his attention to the customers. I didn't know what to try, so decided to a combo (#5, I think) that had a tostada, cheese enchilada and a Machaca Beef chimichanga. Well, you can keep the rest, and give me more of that chimichanga! The beef was so tender and flavorful, I could eat a mountain of it. Mom had shrimp and steak of some arrangement, it was not impressive. The shrimp were really fishy tasting and the steak was just okay, but the leftover steak seemed better the next day.

I was fortunate enough to eat at the original Mi Ranchito in Olathe on Harrison the first week they opened. I was HOOKED!!!!! I moved next door to the 119th street Olathe location and was a 3 times per week regular. The place is this good. My goodness they have perfected the art of Americanized Mexican food. I dare any of you to find a place that exceeds their customer service. Not too pushy. The staff will learn your name and preferences the more you frequent the place. Almost like your family. Now on to the good stuff...........Food! I've eaten 3/4 of the menu items. Where do I begin? Well, the common Mexican American staples of burritos, enchilada, taco's, salads, tamales, ect are top notch. Many meat nd veggie choices. All the sides you come to expect are a common staple on each plate. Plenty of regional and seafood options if you desire. Ultimately, a vast and expanding menu that you are likely to enjoy. How bout them salsa's, guacamole, dips, ect? Again, great choices. The cheese ie; Espinacco dip is to die for. Always coupons out there for free dip. They have hot nd mild salsa's. Great bean dip. All BS aside....l.lMi Ranchito's chips are the BEST I've ever had. Ever! I'm talking Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, California, Vegas, and Nebraska regions. If you think I'm over exaggerating, you'll see. They practically melt in your mouth. Thin, hot, light white corn tortilla chips. My latest favorite dish is the grilled chicken tamales. Also, ask for the street tacos not on menu or for that matter they will cook up anything you suggest not on the menu. I'm pretty sure Mi Ranchito now has 4 or 5 locations and have really taken off in recent years. Never mind the 95th street scare a couple years ago. Simply a disgruntled employee. The owner demands the very best and this didn't set well with a former employee. Overall, a great Mexican establishment in the KC Metro area. Nothing comes close in Lawrence or Topeka. Until then, I will make the 30 minute trek to Olathe for an occasional meal.

A friend and I had lunch here today and it was really good. One thing that made me go hmmmmm was that a lot of things were more expensive on the lunch menu than the regular menu, as in the Chiquito sampler on the regular menu was $7.25 on the app side but the almost identical sampler was $8.50 on the lunch menu? It came with beef nachos, two brisket taquitos, two chicken flautas, and a chicken quesadilla (sorry about the spelling), sour cream and guac. It was outstanding! So if you want a sampler order off the regular menu!! My friend had the mexican pizza off the app evening menu for $6.99 and it filled her plate. It was her first time there and she loved it. Our waiter was great, he even carded my 42 yr old friend (bigger tip? LOL) but she loved it. He kept salsa and drinks refilled, was very pleasant and prompt. A previous reviewer mentioned tight seating, but it's an old review because the seating was open and the aisles were plenty wide. I could only eat half of my sampler so asked for a box and an order of chips and salsa to go, he brought what I thought was a pretty small lunchbag size bag of chips so I asked for another one, which he brought, no questions asked..and he didn't charge me for them either! I don't know if this is the norm but I was happy. My lunch/drink cost $12 including tip. Amazing..and to top it off the Chiefs were on their TV's and won! Couldn't ask for a better lunch..and I'm munching on chips and salsa as I write this! Awesome.

While visiting KC we came here because it was fantastic in the past ...not today :-( 1 dish was room temp and it was difficult getting a drink refill. Next time we are in town I will seek a new favorite place.

I really enjoyed this place! Since moving here I've searched for a Mexican place that hit all the right notes and I finally found it. The salsa is flavorful and has the right spice to it. They also serve an avocado salsa with the chips that is fantastic! The fajitas are delicious and my friend's chimichanga came with a garlic cream cheese sauce that was ridiculously good. I'd really recommend this to anyone.

I think I've finally found a place in KC that has Horchata that rivals some of the best that I've had back in Los Angeles!!! Anyway, I should probably get to the actual review now, shouldn't I?? So here it goes: My boyfriend and I were out running errands when we got hungry and decided to stop here for lunch. It was around 1:30 or show when we stopped here for a late lunch. It was still quite busy, but we were able to be seated quickly (although not at a booth as we didn't want to wait the extra 15 minutes or so). Overall the service was good, although I think that our waiter was a bit slow, but quite friendly. I think it was still in the early stages of him working as a waiter at Mi Ranchito. The chips and salsa was pretty good - the chips were thin and quite fresh. I definitely enjoyed them. As far as the salsa, it was on the more mild side - I would have preferred if it had a bit more heat, but can't complain there. I ordered the Horchata, as I love the stuff and I hadn't (until now, obviously! :P) found one that met my standards when it comes to amazing Mexican food in Kansas City. It was amazing, the right about of sugar and cinnamon. It wasn't watered down like the previous Horchata that I've had too. Definitely worth returning to if just for the Horchata!! As far as the meal goes, we ordered the guacamole - which was yummy, but again would have preferred far more heat in it. My honey ordered the Pork Carnitas Tamales and I ordered the Mi Ranchito Sampler. The tamales were excellent, but were a little bit on the dry side. I think they could have steamed a little less and had less maza. My sampler was interested...I can say that I'm not a fan of the Pollo Feliz (chicken happy?), it definitely wasn't all that happy. It tasted like a chicken tortilla casserole. The beef taquitos were quite good, but also a bit on the dry side but the chicken flautas were yummy. Overall a decent experience and worth returning to when I next have a craving for Horchata or Mexican food.

Love this Mexican (Tex-Mex) place. The service is great, from the wait staff attentiveness to the speed your food comes out. However, as someone else mentioned, they fill up your chips so often that you will probably have to refuse a chip refill if you want to consume any of your meal. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable. The salsa is not spicy, but you can ask for the hot stuff. The chips are thin and homemade.

    (4)
  • David H.

I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but this venue was pretty good and very reasonable. Large portions, food was served hot and tasty. Service was excellent. Go their on their specialty days such as Margarita Tuesday. They do have great margaritas and Mexican beer on draught. My veggie quesadilla was very good stuffed with beans and fresh vegetables. The chips and salsas are made there and very good.

I think this is a pretty good local chain. I've eaten at the one on 119th and the one on 95th. It is almost always busy. The food is pretty good and a lot better than some of the other Mexican local restaurants. It is what it is. It's not upscale Mexican or even that unique, but if we're talking chains I prefer Mi Ranchito and Jose Peppers over any other chains in the area. I'm a very big fan of salsa so I would never recommend anywhere that didn't have good, fresh salsa. I think the salsa at Mi Ranchito is pretty good. It's very close to my house so I end up satisfying my Mexican cravings here. Their burritos are good and my fiance always ends up getting the sampler. Margaritas are GOOD!!

Ordered Fajita which is supposed to come sizzling but it was kind of cold. I am a big fan of Mexican food, I think food here lacks authenticity. Two stars for service but for food I won't give even one.Overall, a bad experience.

  • Joel H.

Food was good, not great. However, It was also very cheap, so you get is a lot of bang for your buck. My family always goes there for $0.99 tacos (they offer those on Tuesdays). Their espanaca dip is delicious, and by printing a coupon off of their site, you can get it for free if you are ordering an entree. They also serve you free chips and salsa from the moment you sit down. So, basically, you get a lot of good food for your money.

  • Zach G.

I live near this Mi Ranchito, so I have been there several times. I have always been happy with the food and the service. Prices are very fair for what you get, and I feel like it has better choices than most of the other Mexican places in KC. As the staff told me, nothing is really authentic...but that's the case with most places around here unless you go to a real Mexican neighborhood! Considering that (I love the authentic stuff), it's solid food that I return for time and time again. I do love to do carry out though, because the waits can be long for a table. Even on Wednesday nights, if the weather is nice, you can wait 15 minutes for a table. Stroll up to the bar, place your order, get a Negra Modelo and kick your feet up for a few minutes.

I have to say I'm pretty surprised that others have rated this place as high as they have. I went for my second time today (lunch) and was as unimpressed as the first time. Biggest issue for me: SOMETHING smelling like a dirty rag - most likely my table after being wiped with a towel that's been used way too many times and not properly rinsed. I can usually move on from these things - and I did - but it wafted it's way back to my nostrils about every 3 minutes. Our waiter, Johnathan, was very good. He was prompt in taking our order and asked all the right questions. And when he forgot my sour cream, he came back with it and an apology. All I ask when someone makes a mistake is that they acknowledge it and correct the error. Exactly what he did...and that was great. Prices are decent and the food was definitely hot! So much so you better watch any bare skin that might touch it as you WILL burn yourself. They did warn us of it...so that was good. The food is just ok. Nothing to rave about. It's edible but I can't say I have had anything that wow'd me. My deep fried taco tasted more like it had been sauteed in grease, not deep fried at a high temp for the proper crispiness. It was that tough/soggy texture... And as so many places have - the standard microwave rice and beans. Left them on the plate. The chips made up for it though...good stuff! And finally, Johnathan brought me a to-go cup with my soda in it. Nice touch but unfortunately I won't be frequenting this place.

Had dinner here around 5:30 on a Saturday evening. It was busy, but there was parking and immediate seating. The decor is nice and the service very friendly. LOTS of waitstaff! I went with my usual order of chiles rellenos, as they're something I like that's complicated and messy to make at home. These were tasty, but not "authentic." The chiles were nice and fresh, and stuffed with cheese, but were covered in a combination of tomato and cheese sauces. That's rather over-gilding the lily! The refried beans were good, but I didn't care for the Mexican rice as much. But I knew Mi Ranchito isn't the most "authentic" place around. I just happened to be passing by, and didn't feel like driving farther. The chips are thin and crispy, the salsa was fresh-tasting but not spicy, and they keep your basket and water glass filled. This location is open until 10:00 p.m. and until 11:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, so you can have a late dinner if you want one.

OMG, We went to this place for Cinco De Mayo and boy was it yummy. The salsa was to die for (very flavorful). My whole family each ordered the guacamole and shrimp enchiladas (not sure if this is a regular but they sounded yummy) boy were they delicious!! It was really crowded due to the holiday but the service was fantastic! and our waiter was fantastic! I highly recommend this place!

Great Mexican food! Love there Espinaca dip and margaritas. They could use more seating it is always crowded.

I love this place, the food is so fresh, I love the cream cheese chicken enchiladas, their espinaca dip, the Piña colada are amazing, and the salsa is wonderful too. The prices are great and the portions are quite big. I go here all the time with my family and friends. My only recommendation is that if you go here to go at an off time because it gets very crowded around dinner and lunch.

This is the wife and my "go-to" Mexican place. The food has always been quality Mexican fare. The service here is exceptional. And, as is often the case in a Mexican style restaurant, the food comes out quickly. We eat out, often, and this is the only place where, without a doubt, a manager will stop by the table and ask if everything was great....and we have always been able to respond with a positively YES answer. Management that cares....tasty food....reasonable pricing...all combine to say that if you are looking for a Mexican style dining experience, then this should be on your list of "must visit" places. (I rate this, $ (cheap) because I do not usually go for those $10+ combo plates at ANY Mexican restaurant....just too much food for me....but, if you like that sort of thing, they certainly can deliver on that, too!)

Another fine example of Kansas City Microwave Mexican. Bottom line: the food here sucks, and so does the service, except for the manager. Skip this place and drive directly to Dos Reales or Sol Azteca unless your idea of a burrito is ground beef in a flour wrap, drenched in velveeta cheese. If so, this is your place. I was lulled into thinking this might be good by the number of illegal-looking immigrants around the kitchen, and the predominantly latin staff. But, it was not to be. 2 star - Chimichanga. "lightly fried" translates to undercooked, doughy, bleh 2 star - Carnitas Chili Verde. Bland, small, dry chucks. Hope this was an off night guys, cause your pork Chili Verde sucks. 2.5 star salsa. I like chunks. This is pureed. About as runny as the queso. 2 star - service. Where to start? I had to: - Rummage up my own silverware and napkins - Get myself water to drink - Go find someone to take our food orders 30 minutes after ordering appetizers - Keep finding a manager to find us a waiter to wait on us There were a whole bunch of folks standing around in staff uniform chatting and giggling the whole time we were NOT getting serviced. It wasn't cheap, either. Sorry, you won't be getting another dime out of me Mi Rachita.

We go here quite often, before heading over to smallcakes ; ) The service is always pretty good. Yummy chips and salsa, and of course espinaca(sp?) dip is a house favorite! I usually get the cream cheese chicken enchiladas which are fantastic, but I tried a veggie burrito once. While I do love Mi Ranchito like nobody's business, that veggie burrito was just disgusting. I love me some fruits and veggies, but I don't like HUGE stalks of broccoli in my food. Yeah, it was the ENTIRE thing, and there was like five or six of them in my five or six inch burrito. Ick! But other than that, great place!

I've eaten here three times (against my will) on three different celebratory family occasions (in which I had no say in restaurant choice). Each visit was more disappointing than the previous. From here on out I am publicly proclaiming, "No on Mi Ranchito". This place is always packed out so there is a high wait probability (waiting for good Mexican is one thing, waiting for bad Mexican food such as this adds insult to injury). The restaurant is too small/cramped and getting to and from your table is an exercise in Frogger. The overabundant wait staff hurriedly moving about delivering food and taking orders makes you feel like an inconvenience should you get in their way or take too long to decide. I can't recall what menu items I have ordered (repression), but I vividly remember feeling like my dish had sat under a heat lamp for 6 hours, only eating enough to satiate my hunger, and refusing a to-go box. On one occasion, my tortilla soup actually tasted fishy. I would have sent it back, but it still would have been disgusting sans fish flavor. Dinner prices are also rather exorbitant (for their signature dishes) when compared to similar Mexican restaurants. If you are looking for decent Mexican in this area, do yourself a solid and go a few miles SW of here to Chapala . The prices are better, the service is friendlier, and the food is exponentially better.

This place has amazing service, great cheese dip and margaritas that hit the spot. I can't say the same about the food. I'm just not a fan. I've had three different meals and they all fell short of my expectations. I really wanted to like this place but it just doesn't do it for me. The meals weren't particularly tasty, they were bland.

The Espinaca Dip rocks. The food is both great tasting and a great value. My wife and I go here whenever we can. That said, I don't like the other locations as much.

Just like most of the Mexican restaurants in the KC area, the food is average. We went during lunch on Cinco de Mayo, they had $2 margaritas which was pretty awesome but the food was bland. The "spicier" salsa was even mild. Unfortunately, the kitchen lost our order and we had to wait over 45 min for our meals. The manger was apologetic and comped our meal. Mistakes happen, it was just irritating especially since one of our party was on their lunch break. Despite the efforts to make up for their error, the food just wasn't worth giving it another try. I won't be back and the search continues for worthwhile Mexican food in KC.

Typical mexican fare, but the real attraction is the speed and efficiency of service. Even on the most packed nights, I've never had to wait long for a table or food. There is a full service bar here and the serving portions for dinner are very generous. Split a plate with a pal if you aren't looking to go into a food coma.

The girlfriend and I have been to this Mi Ranchito's several times. The last time I went I was disappointed in the slow service but this time the service was great. The food was okay. I strayed from my usual cream cheese enchiladas to try the combo. I won't do that again.

My husband and I tried Mi Ranchito while visiting family in Lenexa. I'm in Omaha now, but I was born and raised in Lenexa. I love my Don Chilitos and my Salty Iguana, but I've heard SO much about this place I had to check it out. We weren't disappointed. We arrived around 11 on a Sunday AM. The service was awesome ... at times maybe almost too much. But I always had a full iced tea and chips to eat. You know what they say about a gift horse! The inside is super cute. It's dark with a lot of terra cotta and lanterns on the ceiling. There's a small bar, adequate tequila selection. Small patio out front. The chips were fresh and the salsa was tasty! I really enjoyed them. There was a sign on our table ... text FREEDIP (or something) to a number and get FREE DIP. What?!? So I did. And I showed the waiter. He brought me FREE DIP. A $7 value. White cheese with spinach and some peppers. It was fantastic. I ordered a combo .... a sampler of some kind. The rice was fluffy with good flavor. The re-fried beans were bacony with a lot of whole pinto beans ... which I love. The guac was whatever. Pretty run of the mill. The flautas and whatnot were great. The best thing .... and I have no idea what it was called ... was a square of fried flour tortilla with shredded chicken and cheese inside. It was covered by a creamy cheese sauce. It was unbelievable. Buyer beware. My husband's combo was big ... a burrito, enchilada, taco. What he didn't realize is that all were filled with the same shredded beef. Which resulted in different dishes that all tasted alike. Know what I mean?! Bottom line: Cute atmosphere. Killer chips and salsa. Addictive cheese sauce and solid food. We'll be back next time we're in KC!

Really not very good Mexican Food. The menu is extensive, but nothing special. Salsa taste like it is out of a jar. My husband asked for a little more heat. I think they diced up some Serrano or jalapeño peppers which made it a little more bareable. Don't expect anything special.

Don't eat at MiRanchito if your concerned with Health Code, and cleanliness. This is a very dirty chain. Most of there locations are old run down buildings that are falling apart, and gross. I have a friend in the Health Dept. The stories she tells are scary. Mice in there 119 location, repeated critical's, cockroaches. The kitchen staff has know idea what heallth codes are. Nor do they care. I wouldn't take my family there if it was free.

Mi Ranchito is an old stand-by, although I prefer the location out south (on Harrison in Olathe), I do like the shiny newer spot on 119th Street. By-the-by, I hear that the Harrison location will soon be torn down in lieu of a new space with expanded parking. My husband and I snuck out for lunch on Wednesday, March 28 and, as always, left satisfied. As with most Mexican restaurants, at Mi Ranchito you start with a big basket of chips and limitless salsa. The salsa is probably what sold this restaurant to me - I think they have one of the top three salsas in Kansas City. And their staff is generous with the salsa and chip refills. Almost every time I go to Mi Ranchito I have to order the Bravo Burrito. It is absolutely stuffed full of all things I love: mostly meat - steak and chicken and shrimp, oh my! It also has a few onions and peppers included in the package and comes with avocado on top, just enough to make your mom feel like you're getting your veggies. Drenched with queso, the burrito is the perfect Mexican food. The plate is complete with generous portions of beans and rice. I never leave this place hungry or thirsty - the staff takes EXCELLENT care of their clientele (in all the locations I've been to including the two mentioned in this review as well as the 95th Street location in Overland Park). They also serve delicious margaritas, but I wasn't able to partake this time since I was going back to work for the afternoon. Will I go back? Regularly.

FOODIES STAY AWAY....THE RATING IS A SHAM..... holy cow, this place is terrible. In most cases, when I see a four star or higher rating for a restaurant, I typically know that I am going to have a good or great experience. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH MI RANCHITO. Yes I am typing in caps because it needs to be yelled from the roof tops. There are so many other better Mexican food restaurants to eat at nearby, including Taco Bell, that I am surprised this place stays open. I would assume the same mass crowd that visits this establishment, and has subsequently found Yelp and rated this place, also swears by Outback Steakhouse, Denny's, and Pizza Hut. We went there on Friday night as we were passing thru Olathe and saw the ratings and thought, we should give it a try as we have not been there before. Oddly enough, the place was packed and we had to wait about 30 minutes. Fortunately, the weather was nice enough we could wait outside without melting. Not only was the place packed, but it is a compact restaurant in that there are so many tables in the place it is hard not only for the customers to navigate the tiny aisles but i cannot imagine how the staff must move thru. it is a complete mess. The place is horribly dirty and one look into the kitchen on our way to the table I saw food waste over flowing from the trash cans onto the soaking wet floor, boxes and other filth scattered everywhere. Bus stations were a horrible mess and packed with servers and bus attendants. The service was fine and about what you would expect from this type of place. Friendly and attentive but clueless about the menu or how anything is prepared. They are simply order takers and drink and salsa fillers. So for the food, I can assure you this was the worst part and considering how negative the experience had been leading up to the food, just think for a minute how terrible this is going to be. I ordered the special which was crab and shrimp enchiladas and let me just say, there was a reason it was the special. Apparently the seafood which they placed within the tortillas was about to spoil and needed to either be sold or tossed in the trash. They chose to sell it. I don;t think i have ever in my life had a terrible seafood enchilada until now. The sauce covering the supposed enchiladas was this pasty floury cheesy mix with absolute zero taste. This was covering the near rotted fishy tasting shrimp and crab stuffing which other than this strong fish odor taste had zero flavor. The rice was flavorless and i did not even try the beans in fear that mixed with the near spoiled seafood, i would wind up visiting the ER with some awful mix of food poisoning and explosive gas. The chips were not even remotely warm and to say they were room temp may be pushing it. The salsa was horrendous and with little flavor and absolutely no heat, i mean not even a little minor tingle on the tongue, nothing...tomato juice is spicier than the salsa at this restaurant. I think they must just bulk order this stuff from Heinz Ketchup. My son stated he found a shrimp in the salsa. He was happy but I was alarmed. All my wife could say about her burrito with fajita steak, was that it was quite possibly not only the worst Mexican food she had ever had but stated it might be some of the worst food she has ever tasted. Of course the kids (8,9, and 10) thought it was good but they also love Mc Donalds. it is a very safe bet that i will never return to this restaurant or any others of its locations. Why should I? We live and dine in a town with many fine Mexican Food Restaurants, and this is hands down the worst one and there are some pretty bad ones. If a gun was held to my head to choose between this place and Taco Bell, Taco Bell wins every time with their fake meat and all. But like many of terrible restaurants, they can packs the place to the gills because of the price and lack of refined taste buds. Yes, it is cheap. We fed all five of us, we drank water, for $35.00 not including the tip. Folks, this was not a "the chef was having an off night" type of review here. this is for real. it is not a goof foodies restaurant and if you have any amount of foodie in you, you will steer clear of this place.

Was visiting family in Kansas City and have been hearing about this new Mexican chain. Pro: The best Tex Mex I've ever had in the Kansas City area. Con: I couldn't stop staring at the people around me shoveling food into their mouths... and how much food they were piling in. Pro: The service was impeccable - when glasses were half-full, the server was already replacing your drink. Con: Only Pepsi products. Pro: The food came out piping-hot, tasted fresh and right off the grill, had an amazing taste. As you may not, all the "cons" are subjective - totally not the restaurant's fault, only my personal preference and experience. Altogether, I would definitely bring people who love Mexican to this restaurant. Their idea of spicy is right-on and the queso blanco hath floweth. A great taste which disguises the fact that it's actually a chain restaurant. ENJOY!

Mi Ranchito is one of the lunchtime favorites for my office. Our service has always been good, and we've rarely had to wait for a table. Be warned, while this food is delicious, it is a bit heavy, so if you have an important afternoon meeting, you may consider eating somewhere else. Don't want to be caught napping in the boardroom. Their espinaca dip is excellent, be on the lookout for free coupons, they seem to be in the paper all the time.

  • Kev L.

Not to love this place is to confess you need to get your taste buds repaired. As with all of their other locations, the food is serious and it packs a punch. Carne Asada Platillo with shrimp is one of my favorite dishes besides the usual steak fajitas. You should ask for corn tortillas on the side (not only do they taste better, but they are better for you). The margaritas here are absolutely strong. And if you aren't careful, you could be in need of a designated driver fairly quickly. The espinaca dip is by far the best cheese dip in the metro area. I mean it's not even close. And for anyone to suggest this place is pricey is blasphemy. In the last two years they have actually had to raise prices by $1 to $2 per plate due to produce rising in cost. And even then their prices now are extremely competitive. If you can't afford to eat here, you probably need to go home and boil a pack of ramen noodles anyway.

I fly out to Kansas every month or so to spend time with my girlfriend, and hitting Mi Ranchito is a "must" every trip. This past weekend was my first visit to this particular location, and it did not let me down in any aspect. The service was incredible; friendly, courteous, prompt yet not overly-rushed. I will say that it didn't seem like it was full blown rush hour, but the restaurant was fairly busy and only had a few minutes of wait time for a table. Food came out sizzling hot, something that a LOT of establishments out here in Southern California could learn from. The quality of the meal was top notch, everything tasted incredible and nothing was out of place. Prices with them NEVER disappoint- in fact, dollar for dollar, they have a better value than most mexican restaurants my way west. Everything else lent toward a top rate visit for me; clean booths, sanitary restroom, no gnarly smells wandering around the place (lol!), and super accomodating staffers. Can't wait til my next visit!! Yummm...

We live very close to this location and eat here or carry out several times per month. Nearly everything we've had has been really good, and my only complaint is that it can be a bit pricey. If the average dish were $3-$4 cheaper we'd probably eat here twice per week. Also, you may want to call ahead... peak times every day can be pretty busy and result in a wait. Some of our favorites include anything with seasoned chicken (not grilled) and the Carne Asada tacos (insanely good).

Not sure why people continue to call this Mexican food, when it is probably one of the more Tex-Mex places in town. I frequent this place because when most of my friends mention Mexican, they are talking about this place. The service is hit and miss, sometimes food comes out quickly and then other times it seems like your order got lost in the shuffle. This place is always super busy and it is probably a good indication that the chips are super addicting. The problem is exactly that, the chips never go empty, and when you ask not to have them filled again, some other person comes by and gives you a fresh batch of hot, crispy, salty, delicious tortillas. By the time your food comes, you are full of chips and salsa. If you can restrain yourself and actually taste the food, most dishes are sub par and lacking real flavor. Also the point to bring your foot super hot from the oven that melts the cheese makes the plates ridiculous to handle. Even 20 minutes later when you try to pack up what no human should be able to consume after all the chips, the plates are still too hot to handle. So careful if you bring kids along. They have a large menu, and a couple of the dishes are better than other places. They do have great tamales, but there are plenty of better Mexican places around.

I love this place. I eat here at least 3 times a month. At least. Sometimes, I find the staff to be a little rude. More interested in themselves than the customer walking in the door. But the food makes me forgive their lack of manners. As for the service, well, there are a few servers I would not want to have serve me again, but most of the time the service is average to a little above average. Their espinaca is the best around. And the place is always hopping, so go early or expect a wait.

  • Kristin D.

I am really surprised at how many stars this restaurant has. First off the wait and staff are horribly slow. Secondly, I have no idea how this is considered good Mexican. I went here hesitantly after some debate and wish I hadn't. Our drinks weren't delivered on time, the guacamole was brown and salty and the food was bad. For the amount of people in there i'd think the food would be fresh, especially the guacamole, but apparently people in Kansas don't eat guac. I ordered the chicken avocado salad and the whole thing was warm like it sat out for at least 20 minutes before it being delivered...and the only thing I can say about the rest of our 8 person group was that no one finished their food. So if you're looking for good food, I suggest Chipotle on 119th street...far less money and much better.

Great food, fast service, large booths for seating larger families. The Mi Ranchito sampler is very large for sharing and has a great selection of a chicken burrito with jalapeno cream cheese topping, some flautas and taquitos as well. Each of the dishes I have tried have been excellent and everything is reasonably priced.

    (4)
  • Green D.

Some of the best Mexican I've ever had! Standouts are the machaca, shrimp tacos, and house special fajitas. For the price you can't beat it as you can eat 2-3x on one dinner portion. The only thing I didn't like here was the carne asada quesadillas. (Note however, that recently some health code violations have surfaced for another location of this chain. Caveat emptor)

Two Mi Ranchitos is certainly better than one. After my first visit to the Shawnee location, I was ready to hit this larger version over in Olathe. This is a popular place and expect it to be hopping on a weekend evening. It was about a 20 minute wait but people kept coming in swarms even with floodlike downpours. And apparently they make rockin' margaritas because I saw yellowish fishbowls everywhere! The front and back entrances are completely out of whack as most know. You'd probably expect to enter from 119th, like we did. You start feeling pretty stupid once you're welcomed by tables of people all eating away and you're stuck walking through everyone to the front of the house. Staring with their staple of chips and salsa, my coupon pal Lindsay also scored us a free Spinach Dip appetizer that was pretty tasty. It's a hell of a way to start an evening of Mexican indulgence. My tastebuds were singing when I got a taste of my veggie quesadilla - filled with broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers and black beans. It was delicious and I couldn't resist asking for a box to take my last two triangles home. I highly recommend it. Our waitress was simple adorable and sweet as honey. She constantly was checking on us and her demeanor couldn't have any more endearing. I think she even was pleasantly surprised by me speaking a little Spanish here and there for her amusement. I'll be seeing you Mi Ranchito again. Third time is a charm.

Watch out, Jose! Another local Mexican place is giving you a run for your money. I've seen several Mi Ranchito locations, but only tried the one on 119th. It's busy at lunch and dinner, and once you try the food you see why. Some especialidades, like their pollo platter and jalisco chimichanga, have enticed me to try something different every time, and everything's been good enough to order again. Olathe seems to have the same problem as Shawnee, which is plenty of chain restaurants but a short supply of good local and ethnic restaurants. Mi Ranchito is a welcome exception to the rule. And now that I've checked out their web site and learned there's a Shawnee location not too far from me, I'm looking forward to trying that one too.

This place can get crazy busy. Love the food, espinaca dip is amazing. Great wait staff, have never waited long for food although we try to go before they get busy. Yes prob not traditional Mexican but it is good. Comparable to Jose peppers.

All I can say is ORALE! This place blows away the competition bar-none. There is no place like it for authentic Mexican food. I have been to several other so-called "authentic" joints but this one tops them all. The one thing I really like about this place is they have call ahead seating and you will need it on any given night because the place is always packed. I am going to make a couple of recommendations for people who are afraid to choose something other than a chimichanga. If you like steak, then get the Carne Asada platillo w/corn tortillas (healthier than flour). *it usually comes with a red sauce, but you can tell them to hold it. The sauce is usually underneath on the plate itself and is very light. *** if you like steak but don't want a meal then try the Carne Asada tacos or the steak fajita nachos*** If you like fish, then may I recommend the fish tacos (lunch or dinner) it comes w/black beans so you should ask for refried if you don't like black beans. VERY VERY YUMMY IN MY TUMMY... crap I am hungry now. Now here is one that I rarely see gringos order (and that's okay ;) but I recommend: Chile Verde Pork Platter (that's right I said Pork) and it is super duper tasty. You will not be disappointed and if you cannot fathom eating pork, then down it w/a house margarita or you can be like the most interesting man in the world and get a DOS XX on tap. Next thing you know you will be the most interesting person at your table.

I went here on a Sunday lunch. The food was okay, probably 3 1/2 stars. I can't complain about the service either. What really drops this place is its extremely crowded, uncomfortable, and noisy. Twice during lunch they sang some birthday song loudly which was really annoying. I will give credit for the manager on duty as he really got into the singing, but I just really hate that. It really has the look of a chain place.

I'm sorry to say I just really don't like Mi Ranchito. They and Jose Peppers have several of the same menu items, but from the margaritas, espinaca dip to the main menu choices, Jose Peppers is just so much better. I go with family and friends who do like it and it took well over a handful of times before I found a dish that I could finally somewhat enjoy eating. Just not my thing I guess.

Good and heavy Mexican food. The veggies are crisp in the fajita and the pico de gallo is good. The salsa is excellent and plentiful. I've been here twice and have not had any food complaints. But the service, the two times that I have been, I have noticed that I become invisible. They always ask my boyfriend how was everything, if he needs anything else, or ask him," how was everything?" Even if I respond before him, they still have to hear it from him. Both times I have paid and he was given the receipt. Everything food wise is terrific here, I have not been to a better Mexican place around, no meat in my veggies, but the service... I can't help but feel a little slighted.

I'm a Mi Ranchito regular--the quality of their food is consistent and the staff is friendly. Like others have mentioned, it took a visit or two to figure out the entrance is 'round back. I'd highly recommend calling ahead... you can rarely walk in without at least a short wait. The main reason I go to Mi Ranchito is for the margarita's. Unlike another joint in town that has a 2-for-1 margarita "special" (offered all day, every day) that's basically a dash of lime juice in a glass full of ice, Mi Ranchito's margaritas deliver some kick... they're really good. I took one star off because the placement of some of their tables suck. The worst one is a two-top located between the kitchen and the fake entrance... they should really do away with the table and make more room for the first timers to stand while they try to figure out the door situation.

I love mi ranchito!!! we just came from here and another deliscious meal was eaten!!! the reason that they got 4 stars was because they have ginormous portions so we split a meal, when we got our bill they charged $1 to spilt the meal! No biggie just wish they would have told us! Like seriously a $1 to use an extra plate!! the food is always good and of course we will be back!!!

The food prices seem a little higher than the OG locations on Metcalf, even though the food is just as spectacular. This new location feels much cleaner compared to the other locations. There seems to be a war among my co-workers about which location is better "Olathe or Old OP". Even though the food tastes identical, I vote for downtown OP as the best location, just because it was my "gateway" location into Mi Ranchito. I think the answer to the question would be which do you prefer - "new building" or "rustic charm".

I have enjoyed this restaurant since it opened; however, I was disappointed in my visit today. The food was tasty (cream cheese chicken enchiladas) as always, but the portions are getting very skimpy while the price isn't ($10.25). There was barely a single layer of black beans. There was less rice than usual. The white cream cheese sauce that was supposed to top the enchiladas was almost not there. The enchiladas themselves used to be amply stuffed so that I could take one home for the next meal. Today there was very little filling, so I ate both of them and wasn't full. The scoop of what I think is polenta has gotten so tiny it almost doesn't exist. Such cutting corners and offering such tiny portions at high prices makes going to this restaurant out of my budget.

Mi Ranchito is one of the best Mexican restaurants that I've been. The service was excellent. The food was great. I went for lunch last week with hubby and coworkers. We were seated right away and the server brought up the drinks immediately. I asked for the spicy salsa but it was not spicy enough for me. So I confirmed it with the server if that's the spicy one. He said yes and asked if it's not spicy enough. I told him yes and didn't expect anything extra. Couple of minutes later, he walked up with a bigger bowl of salsa and asked me to try if I like it. I was sold right there on the spot. When a restaurant would go out its way to make its customer happy, that has to be a good one. The special made salsa was hot and tastey. The food was really nice too. Everyone was happy with their selections and I definately will go back there.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
