Very clean place and decent selection. The sushi bar was very good. Best hot and sour soup we have had at a Chinese buffet. We frequent many Chinese buffets and although this one is a bit smaller and has less variety, the diversity of food was good. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

I took my son there for a late lunch after the airshow. After hearing from friends and relatives about how wonderful this place was for a Chinese Buffet, I was excited to finally try it. I cannot say it was bad, but it did not meet the Chinese Buffet Nirvana hype I had heard. The Sushi was pretty good, and there was a good variety. I did enjoy the type with the Roe. The rest of the entrees were pretty typical, and just meh. I judge a Buffet like this by comparing their versions of typical Chinese American to others. The General's Chicken was rather bland, with a very sweet sauce. Not spicy or tangy at all. The Crawdads were hardly worth the effort and mess to get at the meat in the tail. Very small. I was hoping for more variety but the selections were pretty standard fare Chinese Buffet, and none of them were signature. I remember how Wei's used to have a wide variety of atypical entrees, but not here. I tried the Hot and Sour Soup and I was disappointed, as this is one of my favorite dishes.. It had a weird, almost dish disinfectant taste to it. Not hot, and I guess the chemical taste was the "sour." To sum up, the Sushi was fairly okay, but the rest was pretty typical "B-List" Chinese Buffet. I might give it another shot, but I certainly will not go out of my way to eat here in the future unless I am craving strictly Sushi.

I found it surprising that there was a Chinese Buffet at the dying Great Mall of the Great Plains area. I decided to go during my lunch break because I was craving some glutenous all you can eat Chinese, American, Sushish, Mongolian BBQ, and wait, Pho!? Yes, the previous sentence should have summed up the entire restaurant for you. They have most items you will find in Chinese buffets but there are some notable items: 1. Pho. I have only ever had Pho at a Chinese buffet back in Southern California (which ended up being closed down btw). I do have to say that it's not the best Pho out there but I am really happy that they have it! 2. Calamari (fried squid). They weren't overly battered and they were seasoned quite well. The bell peppers and onions also complimented the actual fried squid. It was probably my favorite dish there. 3. Real ice cream. Most buffets choose to go with soft serve, so I give them a big thumbs up for having real ice cream in a large tub. It reminds me of Thrifty Ice Cream from Rite-Aid. Was Rite-Aid/Thrifty even popular here in KC? The prices are very decent with lunch being about $8. They also have crab nights (all day Sundays) for $12 which I think is a bit pricey if you compare it to Joy Wok in Overland Park. All in all, I was pleased with their selection and I definitely give them another star for cleanliness. I would stay away from the Sushi though.

We have been here many times. The food is always fresh and have always had good service. By far my favorite Chinese place in the area!

I've been here several times and am impressed at the cleanliness of the place. The draw for me is the sushi - good rice rolls topped with tuna, salmon, or roe. Good stuff and they don't use tons of fake crab like some places do. I would pick their sushi over Wei's sushi any day. I was very impressed with how often they replaced food and stirred the food. I have never seen food replaced so fast at a buffet. It was replaced in order for the food to remain fresh, not replaced because they had run out. There was a lady there who was constantly bringing food out of the kitchen and keeping the buffet up to par. I am not a fan of the egg drop soup. Pretty flavorless. I added salt and pepper which made it a bit better, but still not great. The chicken for the sweet and sour chicken was very good and I was a fan of the coconut shrimp. I did not visit when they had crab legs so I cannot comment on that option. This is my new go-to Chinese place. Sauces are thickened with corn starch not flour so there are gluten-free options here.

This was our first visit and our last. The food wasn't great and both my husband and I were sick all night after eating there.

Now offering crab legs. Although not that not great. Even though busy and popular and Food brought out often, the majority of it was nearly cold. There are better but it will do if a buffet is what you need and this is close.

Food is decent and fresh. All you can eat crab legs are small but taste ok. Staff are friendly and chat with you at the table. They smile and laugh and have a lot of personality which is refreshing as most Asian restaurants the staff is all about hustle and bustle get people in and out. This seemed more relaxed and pleasant and a warm environment.

Ok, this is a Chinese buffet so my expectations weren't much. Yet, I was a bit disappointed in Happy Wok. I'm giving it 3 stars because I don't think it would be fair to give it less since it's not that different from other Chinese buffets. The night I visited, it was a little busy. The hostess gave me a number and I waited to be called. The restaurant looks nice enough inside especially considering it's near the Great Mall area which has been on life support for a while. The buffet area was a little smaller than I expected, but otherwise the place is your typical Chinese buffet restaurant. After being seated and ordering drinks, I looked around the buffet. The food looked alright although the selection was a little lacking in the main area. They do have a fairly nice sushi bar and a Hibachi grill. The desserts left a lot to be desired, but they did have a small chest freezer of ice creams. The steamed rice in the rice cooker was overdone...twice. Perhaps that should have been a sign to me. I'm not sure I've ever been to an Asian restaurant where they didn't get the rice right. I mean, that's a little hard to do compared to the rest of the food, right? The rest of the food wasn't bad although it wasn't really tasty either. I found the coconut shrimp was pretty good. I tried the Hibachi grill next. It didn't have near the ingredients I had hoped for and the quality of the ingredients was only so-so. You pick the sauce to go with your ingredients, but you don't actually make it yourself. The cook pours it on while he is cooking. Unfortunately, that meant my sauce wasn't spicy and the cook didn't use much of it so the food again wasn't all that tasty. It was a crab night (weekends) at the restaurant and I had paid the extra for that. The crabs are small. They were decent for what they were, but not really worth paying the extra. They don't make a big batch of them so you have to wait quite a while between plates of crab if you really want an all-you-can-eat experience. I only had two plates the entire time I was at the restaurant. I'm glad I paid the extra simply because the rest of the food somewhat disappointed me and I love crab. Two things that may be telling: 1. My son who tends to like Chinese buffets complained about the food and the fact that the desserts "sucked". 2. We left the restaurant hungry. So, I probably should give this restaurant 2 stars, but again, it's not that different from most Chinese buffets.
