This place is a great little chinese buffett style restaurant. $8 gets you all you can eat with a drink. The food above average and very offerings are very typical of most buffetts. The inside is very clean and the service is good and attentive. Check it out.

I tried this over priced buffett yesterday on a whim, and realized that old school buffetts that don't do mongolian grills or sushi are a dieing breed. to top it off, they really should be a dieing breed. I'm sure the citizens of mission appreciate having a buffet this close, but there are other choices nearby that for the same price triple your options. I noticed all the chicken dishes had the same fried chicken bits in them with different sauces on top. also there were some empties on the buffet when I was there, which made me wonder what I was missing. at 1 oclock, i really expect a buffet to be fully stocked. the price did come with a drink, but i prefer water anyways, so maybe they should drop the price and take off the drink. i didn't taste anything on the buffet that stood out, it was mostly just ok, and over sauced, and those little fried chicken nuggets were a little off putting. I can't comment on the regular menu, as I had the buffett, but it's possible they have great food from a menu, i just can't say. I can say however that I won't be back. not when there's a place with sushi and mongolian grill down the street for the same price.

I'd joked that Fire Wok was my favorite restaurant for a really, really long time, even though I'd never gone. But any place with hours that absurd had to be special, right? And the hours are hilarious, right? Well. Not really. It's pretty generic buffet food. I am not a buffet person, but even friends who are weren't impressed. And seriously, guys. THE HOURS. I think they're open only 7 minutes per day every other Thursday. Or something. Pricing is OK if you plan to eat a lot. You can find coupons, which is nice. But I'm just going to have to find another favorite restaurant.

Family owned, wonderful people and of course, great food. I make a long drive often just to get my fix.

No. Overpriced and the food is awful. It's a small and dirty and I felt like it was going to fall apart. The food looked fake and tasted like cardboard. Will not be returning.

I absolutely love this little buffet style Chinese restaurant. The staff is always happy and upbeat, while maintaining the excited to serve attitude. Love the food and will be eating here again!

Now I have to admit to a certain fondness for your basic hole-in-the-wall kinda operation. The big buffets are nice for variety and all that, but these places have a certain charm. That being said, I'd still have passed this place by on its own merits: too far away from home or work, plenty of other Chinese places around, and they're not open on weekends--big mistake, in my book. Frankly, I would never have darkened the door of the place were it not for three little words: Springfield. Cashew. Chicken. Yes, Springfield expatriates the world over have a long-standing love-hate relationship with that peculiar dish: combining the mystery of the orient with the midwestern proclivity for fried meat lumps with gravy. Comfort food, people: the culinary answer to the Stockholm Syndrome. And Fire Wok has it. There's a couple other places that claim to do this particular dish in the metro area, but this one so far is the closest I've found. You've gotta have the crunchy coating on the chicken, like rogue mcnuggets. The sauce is all-important: it has to be just right. And If they don't have little diced-up bits of spring onion to sprinkle on top, well, they're just not even trying. Fortunately, all the elements come together, here: the only missing ingredient is the cashews themselves. A mysterious omission, but bring your own--you'll be fine. As for the rest of it? Well, typical small, family-run Chinese buffet. What can I say? You've had it before, you'll quite likely have it again.

i remember this place as somewhere to go when i was extremely hungry and didn't care that the buffet food didn't taste so great. Anyways, what else can you expect when general tso's chicken and crab rangoon are considered chinese food.

Fire Wok is as good as it gets when it comes to a family-owned/operated Chinese buffet. Having lived a mere 5 minutes from Fire Wok for 4 1/2 years, I'm baffled that it took me so long to dine there (4 1/2 years). Upon my first visit, I decided to partake in their buffet "take-out," where you pay a flat fee for as much food as you can cram into a container. The second, third, fourth... times that I went back, I stayed for the buffet. I have to say, Fire Wok's Egg Drop Soup is the best that I've had in a long time! They don't add things to it like some places, it's what it should be and that's it. Their other staples are present: Beef with Broccoli, Cashew Chicken, General Tsao's, Lo Mein... the list will not end - they have so many delicious items all with a slightly unique "Fire Wok" taste that will have you coming back day after day after day.... The service at a buffet is generally questionable, however at Fire Wok, the owner is present all day - everyday, she mingles with you and builds a relationship with each of her customers, whether regular or first-time. Not only is she prompt, the servers refreshing the food spend a lot of time ensuring the food is fresh and hot. Tip: be sure to check out the lunch and dinner selection if you can as they switch up the menu. I will definitely be calling myself a regular of Fire Wok!

This is the first Chinese buffet that I've been to in a while. It came highly recommended due to their authentic Springfield cashew chicken. Needless to say that while the selection was much smaller than I am used to for a buffet, the food was fresh! Served in smaller portions with frequent changes gave that "not stale" look. Food was quite delicious, though a few items on toothpicks seemed slightly overcooked. The dinner price was reasonable with drink included. I was quite full when I walked out--too full for dessert although I had a fortune cookie!

Well... humph my husband was the last to review this, so here is my shorter and sweeter version. Love this buffet, its not fancy shmancy, really good american chinese food, and plenty to choose from. The best hot and sour soup by far. family owned. Priced fair And yummy for my tummy baby! awe jeez i just read his review, so... sorry for the duplicate remarks ;/

Wow, totally underwhelmed. Over-priced for the selection it has, and I'm pretty sure I ate some bad chicken. You pay first, which I've never experienced at a buffet, and you don't have a choice to just drink water for free instead of paying for pop/soda.

Keep in mind this is a chinese buffet and not a gourmet restaurant, that said this place deserves the five stars. Family owned and been open in Mission for a LONG time. They prepare the food with care and the place is clean for how old the place is. They are always friendly and after showing up a few times will remember you and preferences for table or whatnot if you have one. The food is great and prices reasonable. We don't go to any other buffets in KC any more. We use to love china star but had some bad experiences there. Just try it out and enjoy a well above average Chinese buffet experience. A tip for the best experience: show up right when they open for either lunch or dinner and you won't be disappointed.

A vast array of below-average Chinese food, mostly chicken. Pretty much what you expect from a Chinese buffet (and why I don't usually eat at them). Have been here several times due to business lunches and would not willingly return. (Pine & Bamboo Garden and China Star are both nearby and have miles better food.)

Fire Wok has reinstalled my faith in All-You-Can-Eat Chinese Buffet. In the land cookie cutter homes and starbucks on every corner, finding a decent buffet is easy enough. Here in "downtown" is where it starts getting a bit tricky. Paying before you eat is one of my favorite things in the world. When I'm feelin' fat and sassy after one hour and twelve plates of food the last thing I wanna do is stand in line and pay for a meal I already regret eating and then deciding if I feel bad or not about not tipping the so called waitress. Which brings me to my next point, Fire Wok makes it very obvious they don't want your extra hard earned dough. No waitress, self serve drink station, can't beat it. Now on to the food. I can only judge the food based on the dinner rush. It was fresh, hot, and delicious, all the standards were accounted for. Crab rangoon was great, sesame chicken was actually good enough that I would have bought it as a plate itself. Ice cream was fresh belafonte and the rest of the desserts were great. Atmosphere is awesome, staff stays outta the way, lots of seats in three big rooms so you never feel cramped. All in all, a touch above oriental feast and new china tom's. I'll be headin here for cheap buffet from now on when im at home and lookin for a quick bite.

Yeah! What he said! (Rob C.) Ate here regularly a few years back when I worked in the area. It's a great palce to go spend $6.00 and eat food that's decent. If you are looking for an extraordinary experience, you need to look elsewhere. This is however, a servicable alternative to other resturants in the area. And FTR, I would definately eat here again.

This place is a hidden gem in the Shawnee-Mission area. The foods on the buffet is always fresh, hot, and delicious. And the service is always wonderful from this family-owned/run establishment.

I don't typically like buffets, but I make an exception when it comes to this one! They are the wonderful! The food is always hot, the hot & sour soup is the best! They have several selections of beef, chicken and seafood. Even have fried scallops! What they don't have is a lot of heavily fried entree dishes, (they do have a lot of fried appetizers) only about 3 (sweet & sour chicken, springfield cashew chicken and the scallops.) I love spicy dishes, and they have several to choose from. If you want a Chinese buffet, go here! It is great!

Pay first? I guess it was because the food was so bad, cold and visually unappealing. Virtually any place you choose will be better than this place.

Not great, but not terrible. Small selection and kinda pricey for quality/quanity of food. The service was friendly, but even after we presented our buy one meal get one half off the cashier didn't apply it to our meal (we didn't argue cause of the long line behind us.)

I have not been here in a long time since moving out of the area, but was glad I made the trip. This is a nice family owned Chinese buffet. They have a great selection on the buffet and the price is good. They keep items rotated and fresh and I have always enjoyed all of the offerings. Service is always friendly. They have typical buffet hours, open over lunch, close in the late afternoon and reopen for dinner.

I don't right a lot of reviews because most of the time I don't have enough to say about a place I have tried a lot of buffets all over the metro and up and down the east coast this would be the best all around I have ever been to thanks for the great lunch

Could use a little more variety, but the quality of the buffet is significantly higher than any other Chinese buffet in the area. I liked everything i tried and the staff was friendly. I'm definitely going to be back.

It's hard to give five stars to ANY buffet restaurant, so I'm going with four, but this place does a lot of things right. It's quite a drive for me to get there for lunch but I try to do it every few weeks. As other reviewers have noted, there are several fried chicken dishes on the buffet and they are very likely the same fried chicken with different sauces. Doesn't bother me at all. I'm a sucker for Springfield style cashew chicken, and they do it right here, so that's my go-to entree, but everything I've tried has been pretty tasty. The soups and appetizers are really good. I could eat a hundred of their crab rangoon, the dumplings are fantastic, and the egg rolls are better than average. Is there better Chinese food in KC? Of course there is. But I love Fire Wok and I'll be a regular as long as they keep serving fresh, unhealthy, delicious food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
