About 20 years ago this was a decent little pool joint. Crowds were good, food was good and you could get a good game of pool just about any time of day. I've been through a couple of times the last 6 weeks or so - once on a Friday night and once on a Saturday night - and the old mare just ain't what she used to be. The crowd was sparse and rough - I thought the bartender was going to have to call the police on one fellow who came in the door threatening people. I think the tooth to customer ratio was around 9:1. I would not be surprised if the pool tables, furnishings, decor and carpet are the same stuff that were there 20+ years ago. The toilets were disgusting - and they're right by the kitchen ... draw your own conclusions ... Not sure I'd have a drink there again if it isn't from a bottle I watched them open in front of me. Bummer - used to be a decent little dive. Now it's a just an old, worn-out, dirty little dive. Doubt I'll be going back - Cruiser

Atmosphere gets five stars from me. Ten or eleven pool tables, lots of competitive pool players here, and lots of space. This is not exactly a dive, as it is too big and slightly too clean, but it is nice and dark. Beer selection is pretty lame if you need draft beef: several domestics and Boulevard Wheat. They do have some bottles, like Fat Tire, Guinness, Newcastle . . . all are just $3.50 regular price. That's not bad. My vodka-drinking friend got double-tall vodka sodas for $3.25? Crazy cheap! The bartender was not friendly at all. We hadn't been here before (as I mentioned to her), and the blank stare that met me was not helpful. I put my extra fat tip back in my wallet because of her crappy attitude. I will definitely come back, as it looks like the kind of place that will be a blast with friends on another night.

Ive been going to this dive for almost 30 years and tonight was my last visit.. I sat at a high top table by the bar and sat... and sat.. checked my watch as I was meeting a friend. 27 minutes later no waitress and when I flagged her down she looked terribly annoyed. The bartender looked at me several times and looked off my attempted waves for attention. I am a dive bar lover but this bar doesn't deserve the honor of the title any longer...too bad...

Decent pool bar. The tenders have always been OK and this last time the place appeared to be clean and tidy. Sunday is a great day to play pool there, which is why I go. I have never eaten there. The tables are all coin operated. They seem in good shape. a dollar a game.

Fun, semi-cheesy bar. Very, very smoky. Karaoke, pool, darts. Not bad bar food and cheap pitchers.

One of my favorite bars in KC. It's one of those places where no judgment is passed. From pool tables to dartboards and karaoke to cheap pitchers of beer there is not a better place to unwind and have a sleazy good time.

Oh Clarette Club ... you have a special place in my heart. We only go here on Saturdays for karaoke because it's wildly entertaining and the staff is great (door guy Jason is the best!). We spend an entire evening here, watching karaoke and dancing our asses off in between. My tab is always unbelievably cheap and the drinks are strong. No complaints here! This place is a total dive, but that's what makes it all the better in my opinion! You never know what kind of characters you'll see here.

A nice neighborhood bar, albeit just a BIT on the 'dive-y' side. We weren't expecting much, so as long as nobody got shot, and they put the right amount of alcohol in the drinks. The drinks were good, and even I felt fairly priced ($8 for a mixed drink and a good sized specialty shot). However, it was pretty much self service. On my way to the bathroom (which probably deserves a mention....the doors don't latch/lock very well, and you might get to see something you weren't expecting when you walk in!!), I asked a waitress if we could order drinks at our table. She referred me to another person. He brought drinks once, but the rest of the night, we were clearly on our own. I usually tip if I get my drinks at the bar, if there is a good reason our server isn't getting back to us, but there wasn't one. I tipped about half of what I usually tip. Karaoke was pretty fun, although there was a LOT of music played in between the singers. I understand wanting to make sure the show lasts all evening, but 10 minutes or more between? Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun and I met some fun people while there, and even saw someone I knew. Granted, a fight broke out near the bar at the end of the evening, but there was no gun....or at least none shown. :) A good place to karaoke, have drinks, play pool or other games, including free poker on a few nights (which I haven't yet tried). I'll be back!

I have ended quite of few evenings here attempting to play pool. It's a nice place to go and unwind. Especially since it's close to my house. If you're looking to play pool this place is it. The Clarette Club has quite a few pool tables and there usually isn't a wait to play. I believe there is league play on Tuesdays. But otherwise the table are open. The food is decent bar food. The beer prices seem fair but the Jameson is on the higher side. The bar staff and wait staff are extremely patient and nice. This past Friday night there was live music. On Saturdays there's karaoke. Plus, they do have a nice patio area for smokers too.

This place is really laid back and I've had some really good conversations with complete strangers who range from a large variety of ages and different life backgrounds. It's really chill and I love that!!! Don't take a date there though. Go to Lucky brewgrille first then go here for karaoke. It's got a lot of pool tables too if your into that.

My first time here was the other night for a birthday party and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the pool room and the amount of tables they had. This place is clean, bright, and the service is great. Our server was attending to about 20 pool tables besides our party and we received great service the entire night. The drinks were strong and the beer was cold. This place has great parking and is easy to get in and out of. Overall very impressive. I would give this place 5 stars but for a pool hall I would have expected that the tables would be rented out instead of being pay per game and a buck a game is a little steep if you want to play for a couple hours but a great place non the less.

A good place to get a cheap drink or two. If you're looking for something more, go around the building to the Lucky Brewgrille. Different environment, but different prices as well.

I have to say, I had the best experience at the Clarette last night. I wish I had gotten the bartender's name because he was amazing. He knew my name after my first order (the place was packed and I couldn't believe he'd payed attention) and he continued to call me by name and take care of me like no other bartender has. The atmosphere was fun, the people are all laid back and friendly, the karaoke was a blast and the dancing afterword was so fun!! Check this place out!

The following is excerpted from the KC Beer Blog ( kcbeerblog.blogspot.com/… ). I had no idea what to expect from the Clarette Club in Mission. I've been passing by there for months now on my way home from Batson's. Judging by the name, I could imagine the Clarette Club was some sort of wine or jazz bar. From the demographics of Mission, I thought it might be some sort of dive bar like The Stables. The point is, I thought it could have been anything, I've never heard anyone speak of it and I've never heard anyone actually going there. The Clarette Club is on the back side of the Mission Mart, across Martway from the Mission Bowl. I made my way over after I picked up some vino from Batson's. The first thing I noticed on my way in were signs proclaiming the Clarette Club a smoking establishment. I'll bet that scares away the do-gooders. I walked in and was greeted by the Clarette's most loyal customer, smoke, the sweet smell of freedom. Once again I was going to be in a bar where I was the only one not smoking. Amazingly for 4:45 in the afternoon, the bar area was full. I had to sit on the back side of the horseshoe shaped bar in an area that could be called "no man's land". I was amazed at the size of the place. Eleven or so pool tables, several video games and 5 or so dartboards made up the back end of the bar. Of all the things I've imagined the Clarette Club, a pool hall was not one of them. I know one thing the Clarette Club is not, a beer paradise. I had the wonderful selection of 4 beers on tap; Bud Light, Miller Lite, Boulevard Wheat and something atrocious. I asked the bartender when he finally got to no man's land what the special of the day was. Boulevard bottles for $2.75 was the answer. Not much of a special in my book, but I went with a Boulevard Pale Ale. He grabbed the bottle and placed it in front of me sans glass. I asked for a glass and got a quizzical stare for a split second and voila he just appeased the snob and grabbed me a glass. I had to pour my beer myself, but what he hell, I can do some pouring. The crowd was a pretty average one overall. I would say, the average person in the bar was a little over 40. It's tough for me to tell age with smokers. For a room full of 40 year olds, I would expect a little better bar talk than problems with lawn mowing and lawn services, but that is what I was treated to. I was not really into the place and drank my beer pretty quickly so I could leave. I understand from the number of pool tables and such that the Clarette is probably big for pool leagues and dart leagues. I've never been a schedule type of person so I've never been in any kind of dart league or anything. I'm not really into playing games in bars, though I love darts, I prefer to just sit and discuss the topics of the day. I saw several signs for the karaoke night on Saturdays. I would say the Clarette is the Mission equivalent to Boomer's in the Northland. They have better shirts at the Clarette. My bartender was wearing a shirt that said "Have a sleazy good time". They also have a shirt that says "We're so politically incorrect, we stink". I appreciate a bar that will goes out on a limb and advertises they don't want the do-gooders spending money in their establishment. I imagine that if Mission ever passes a smoking ban then the Clarette's days are numbered. But for now, they should advertise a little more about their proximity to the cities of Kansas City and Overland Park and reap the benefits of freedom until October 1 when the Mission smoking ban goes into effect.

Been going here longer than forever! Used to be a regular before I was 21. It was a private club then, stayed open until 3 am, and as long as you had a "club card", you were in; after you waited in line! I remember when they did bar pizza, pickled eggs and sausages, and cheap liquor drinks. Live bands, dancing, and the worst bathrooms ever. Can't tell you how many times I've been smacked in the ass by the door to the bathrooms! 27 years later.....pool tables, Karaoke, food and drinks costing $8? Hmmmmm....really???? Once a dive always a dive~! Hope it never changes!
