McPherson, KS - It may have been a mistake on my part to dine at a Mexican restaurant in Kansas, but the options in this town were extremely limited. Our server was very friendly, but never refilled our waters. That's always the the first strike for me. The food was edible, but low quality especially for the price. If the menu claims that the dish has crab in it, make sure it's actually crab in it and not imitation crab. For these prices the customer deserves the real thing. Also, the fake plastic cheese in the quesadilla is unacceptable! Use real cheese! I get so tired of food establishments cutting corners and ripping off their customers. Use real food, it may cost a little bit more but the customer appreciates it!

Stopped here driving from Denver to Houston. Wasn't expecting anything more than getting off the road to eat something. I ordered the Chili Verdes and it was terrific! Big chunks of pork loin smothered in a freshly made spicy tomatillo sauce. Not your typical greasy, flavorless or cheese smothered Mexican food. Don't know about anything else here, but it is worth the stop just for this dish. My waiter Cortez was great and food was served quickly.

I pretty much got what I expected from this place: a giant plate of food, a bunch of chips and salsa, and several hours of being hunger-free. It's not bad, but not the best. The chips and salsa were pretty good. I got the veggie chimichanga which had a nice variety of vegetables, but the cheese sauce hovering in and around the plate had that plastic, congealed consistency that freaks me out a little bit. Overall it's certainly not the worst Mexican I've had, and they definitely have great service. If you've been to parts of the country where you can find great, authentic Mexican food, you probably won't be too impressed, but you won't hate it.

I stopped here on the way from Denver to Arkansas. Great service! Staff goes above and beyond. Delicious food and the price is right

Although competition is lacking this is one of the best restaurants in McPherson. The food is satisfying, the bar is full, and the selection is ample. The molcajete is the best and most impressive entree on the menu.

This isn't a great Mexican restaurant. It rates because McPherson doesn't have too many restaurants, and one of their other Mexican joints (Ponchos) is possibly the worst Mexican place I've ever eaten at. La Fiesta does make good fajitas, of course I didn't think it was possible for a Mexican restaurant to screw up fajitas and keep it's doors open until I ate at Ponchos (sorry, I know this review is for La Fiesta, but I can't say enough bad things about Ponchos, and people keep eating there!). Not too long ago, La Fiesta made the biggest and best tamales I've ever had. Then they closed down for some inexplicable reason (I heard rumors but don't know why they were closed for a while). They reopened and then their tamales had the consistency and look of baby poop. Fortunately, they didn't taste like baby poop (though I can't say I'm a connoisseur of baby poop), but they weren't good either. If you want good Mexican food and are passing through McPherson, don't stop, Just keep on driving. Salina does have some good Mexican restaurants. I imagine Wichita does too but I can't say I've found any that impressed me.

I always enjoy eating here when I visit McPherson. Friendly service, diverse menu of Mexican dishes, good food. Our family is always happy to visit here and always enjoy the food. (By the way, if you remember that this used to be the Happy Chef, you're too old)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
