I'm from California and nothing can beat Mexican food over there. But I thought this place wasn't all too bad. It wasn't the best, but it sure hit my cravings. I wouldn't mind coming here again. The service was great. The waiter was very friendly and polite.

Poor, careless and confused service paired with over seasoned over cooked sub standard food, not a good combination. My nephew decided he wanted cheesecake empanadas after the check arrived (our server never asked if we wanted dessert or anything else) and 20 minutes later (after asking twice when dessert was coming) a different server brought fried ice cream. We told her we ordered the empanadas, she came back with our original server who said, here's your fried ice cream. We explained again that this was not what we ordered and said never mind as I had already paid our check. The second server came back and asked if we had already paid--she thought we had paid for the dessert, but never offered a refund. I really don't want to give even one star, not worth the money or the time.

It's not a bad place. Although a couple of years ago I would have rated them five stars instead of three. It's gone down in quality the last couple of years but is still worth it for now.

Never impressed. I've only gone there 3 times, and my friends or my boyfriend and I are like "this doesn't taste very good... " service is always good though, and we always make sure to tip well, but seriously. They need to get it together with maybe their cooks, or food, or something. It neeeeeds improvement.

The service was very friendly, attentive and helpful. Unfortunately, the food fell short. The burger I got was soggy, greasy and tasted bad.

Not very good at all. My daughter's french fries were over seasoned, soggy, and luke warm. The fajita chicken meat had good flavor, but was overcooked. And for $12.99 the fajitas were a rip off since they didn't even come with rice or beans. We won't be back.

Upon entering the restaurant around 2:00 in the afternoon and going up to the bar area to get my takeout order, there were TWO employees dawdling around close by, incessantly talking to one another WHILE I waited and waited AND WAITED up at the bar for someone to give me my takeout order. They literally SAW me look up AT my takeout bag and wouldn't even come over to help me pay for my takeout food. I was angry, to say the least! They didn't EVEN ask me "can I help you with anything?" or even say "let me go get ANOTHER employee for you". A third employee up near the bar, when seeing me approaching the bar, walked over to the far side of the bar and didn't even come around to ask if I needed help with anything, either. Basically, I must've had some sort of sign on my forehead that said "please don't come over and help me pay for my takeout order. Please just keep standing there dawdling all the time while I, the customer, get angrier and angrier while waiting for my darn order!" Finally, I had to go OVER to the 3rd employee by the bar and somewhat irritatingly proclaim "ahem, can SOMEONE please help me with my takeout order, please?" and she tried to say "sorry, I didn't see you there". AS IF! She was the one who had originally seen me walk up to the bar and walked way OFF to the side, pretending to be doing something else (for whatever reason). FINALLY, I was able to get my takeout order and pay for it and go home. A process that should've only theoretically took 5 minutes since my food order was sitting right up on top of the bar and the employees themselves saw it and saw me looking AT it! However, my bad experience didn't stop there. When I opened up the styrofoam container preparing for what I THOUGHT was going to be a delicious meal, the fries weren't seasoned properly and were COLD and GROSS. And this happened TWO consecutive times in a row when I ordered takeout from there. The burrito and enchilada tasted okay but the taco tasted sub par. The taco shell easily fell apart and some of the tomatoes on my taco were old tasting. There were also no tortilla strips placed in the taco, as is supposed to be standard when one is eating IN the restaurant. (Why cheap out on toppings just because someone gets takeout and doesn't dine IN? That's wrong!) However, after the sub par food, I dug in to the chips and salsa, hoping, no, PRAYING, that atleast the chips and salsa would be good and to my WONDEROUS surprise, they were! In fact, the chips tasted EVEN BETTER than usual, as did the salsa! (They must've gotten a different type of chips or something.....cause I like the new chips SO MUCH better than the old ones they used to have). Nevertheless, am never, EVER, EVER again ordering any meals from there, dine in OR takeout. Because 2 bad experiences in a row leaves me too traumatized to try the meals there for a 3rd time, especially considering Carlos is kind've expensive, as it is. In fact, I'm gonna start checking out some other local Mexican places that provide better customer service and better food because what I experienced was ridiculous! Because when I walk into a joint, I want to IMMEDIATELY feel welcomed there and asked if I need help with anything. (The hostess was about the ONLY friendly soul I saw in there that day, quite honestly! But alas, it's not HER job to get my takeout order taken care of, it's the employees on the inside part of the restaurant's job, which is why I didn't just pop out there and ask HER to take care of my order!!) Here's my advice to any and all future diners or future take-outERS.....check the food before you leave! If the fries are cold, have them make you new fries. And if employees ignore you, take out your smartphone and start RECORDING them ignoring you (which unfortunately, I should'Ve done in this case!)

Carlos O'Kelly's is a chain of Mexican food restaurants. This seems to be one of their better places (much better than Topeka). The food is about what you could expect from a chain Mexican place. But it is pretty good, although a true Mexican place would be a lot better. The atmosphere is quite noisy though. I especially hated being seated near a family with two kids who were yelling a lot.

Have ate there since this posting and once again the food and service is spot on, if you order the chimichanga meal that you can make your self basicly it is great. thanks once again

Like any other chain restaurant but the food is good for Mexican. Staff is always running around and busy. Located inside the mall, probably the best choice for fresh food.

I have friends and family who love this place, but I have yet to figure out why. I have never been impressed by the food and the some what limited selection of Mexican food on the menu.

The best chips and salsa ever! That is why I keep going here. I have been here at least 8 times. Some of the food is probably not authentic Mexican, but it's all good. I enjoy eating good food, regardless of where it's from.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
