Best burger joint in Manhattan. We tried Vista several times just to compare, but the food at Big D's is by far better - as is the friendly service. Excellent burgers. The 4-Alarm is great - they will even add some sauce to fire it up a little more if you would like. The sides are extra, but worth it. Try the Cowboy Challenge and write your name on the wall of fame. The baked potato salad is super yummy. The cherry limeade is the best I have found in town. Pepsi products are offered with free refills. Tables are offered outside, a couple of tables inside with a few bar seats. They have K-State games playing on the radio every weekend so you won't miss a play if you run out to grab a bite. Should be on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives!!!

After reading that Big D's had the best burger I tried one. Sorry, not for me. The hamburger tastes cheap and just this side of "not fresh." In this area the best burger I've found is the Angus burger at Coach's in Junction City. Try that one folks! I've eaten many there and only sent one back - it's was burned - and Coach's replaced it promptly and with a smile.

Every time I go I get the same thing so I can't speak to the whole menu: two lil D's burgers) I like the meat to bun ration better than the big D, but it is all preference! )These bad boys taste so good! But one of the best things that they will make you is a cherry limeade! Pair that with some Mac daddies as you happy slip into the best tasting diabetic coma. And will have been worth it!

Haven't had their burgers yet, but I have a friend who is obsessed with this place. The only thing I've gotten to try from them was their fried pickles, just cause when I went, I wasn't really that hungry but still wanted to try something. They were the best fried pickles I ever had! I will definitely go back with my friend for a burger soon!

A little D with grilled onions, side of beer battered fries, and whatever delicious new appetizer the owner's come up with to fulfill the inner fat kid in me. Last time I was there, deep fried gouda mac and cheese balls made me hate myself for eating every single offerred ball of deliciousness. Their burgers are simple. Their ingredients are fresh. They're always improving up on their menu based off of inspirations by the owner so there is always something new to try. If you like chocolate, give their biscuits and chocolate gravy a try on the weekends. I love this place.

Crappy hole in the wall kind of location, but the best burgers in Manhattan. Try the 4-Alarm Burger

Big D's loads you up with delicious food that is produced locally. Their meat is ground fresh daily and their ice cream comes from K-State's Call Hall. The price is reasonable for the amount of food that you get and the quality is excellent.

If you want a big burger, this is the place. They're tasty, greasy, and have lots of extras thrown in there. They're so big I had to eat mine (the Phil___something) with a fork. The sides are extra, and they're pretty expensive. Don't order the onion rings. The beer-battered fries are better. The milkshakes come in interesting flavors because they're made from K-state ice cream. These are pretty expensive too. If this place weren't so expensive for the sides I would definitely give it a 5 star. Great place for lunch and if you're looking for a heart attack. Big D was cool and asked us about our food and brought it out to us. Locals come here, so it must be good.

A little pricey but that's because the portions are huge. Great food. Wish they had a soda fountain instead of charging you big bucks for a bottle of coke or tea.

Man I love this place! I went to the opening night and from the first bite of my gigantic big D I knew that I was in love. It's true that the prices are a little high but you definitely get what you pay for. The Philo is huge and delicious, the four alarm is packed full of heat, and the cowboy is the biggest burger I've ever been able to consume. Pro: Delicious food, huge portions, friendly staff Con: Somewhat pricey (worth it), expect about a 10 minute wait.

Love this place. Used to live right behind it and stop in at least once a week. Not anymore, but I still make time to get me some Big D's. Best burger in town. Juicy and cooked to perfection. The beer-battered fries are amazing and the corn bites are to die for. Not cheap, but you're paying for some serious quality here.

Shack is definetly the right word to describe this restaurant. Although don't let the outside scare you away. Number 1 reason to go here is local restaurant with local beef. Not the best burger I've ever had, but definitely a great burger. Also enjoyed the fries, onion rings, and corn bites. Why go to Smashburger or some chain when you have this right up the road? Very limited seating inside, just enough space room for people to wait on their orders. (about a 10 minute wait). The size and not having good seating to sit down and eat is the only thing that keeps this from 5 stars.

Nothing spectacular I've had better burgers. It's not bad but it's not 5 star worthy. Pros Service is great and they're really friendly. Beer batter fries are good and they give you a large order Cons To me for what you get the burger is overpriced They charge for mayo? And charge for a lot of items you would think would be included taking a $6 burger up to $9 or $10

Not many people know Big D's served breakfast on Fri and Sat but they had the best Biscuits and Gravy I have ever eaten. Yes, I am using the past tense. Unfortunately it was such a well kept secret, he will stop serving breakfast at the end of this month (May, 2015) due to lack of interest.RIP B&G! I vote to add it to the regular menu.

Visiting MHK from NYC. Relative Told me that this place has one if the best burgers they ever tasted. Got the Big D's burger, it was okay the meat was more on the dry side. The onion ring came out dark which means they used old oil. Overall an okay place.

I just discovered Big D's several months ago after continually seeking opinions from locals on the best burger in town over the past two years of living in Manhattan. It's not Vista Burger, that's for sure! :-( Went there once and never returned. Someone mentioned this place to me and though I used to live nearby, I never thought of stopping by as it didn't appear open. I finally tried it on their recommendation and was not disappointed. Burgers here are made fresh to order and are large with tasty beef. First time out, I got the regular burger and it was too much for this shorty. Second time around, I got the slider and was satisfied. The fries are battered and extra crispy shoestring style, which is unique. One order easily covers two people, if not more. Each time my husband and I leave a bunch in the basket despite sharing. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. My only issue with this place is that during the winter months, it's really a take out joint. There 's only two tables inside so if anyone is in there, it's too crowded. One table straddles the bathroom. During warmer months, there's seating outdoors, so much more pleasant even if it's on a busy road. When you're craving a nice juicy burger 'n fries that goes beyond typical fast food, this is the place to eat it in Manhattan.

The price is far too high. Paying $10+ for a 2/3lb burger and not getting fries is bad enough, but when there wasn't even the option of purchasing fries. The burger was good, but I can get "good" anywhere.

Finally had the chance to stop in for a meal today, and a meal it was. I ordered the Cowboy burger was three patties and 4 alarm toppings with beer battered fries enough for two, and a blueberry cheesecake malt! The place has a cool little theme. The young man that took my order was very professional and made a great meal for me! Would definitely return. I agree the food is a little expensive, but for quality and quantity it's on par where it should be. Price is no issue.

Hands down best place EVER. If I didn't live in junction city i'd probably eat here everyday ! The owner is down to earth and knows how to cook up some of the best burgers and fries. It's super fresh and sooo yummy ! Before I move I'm doing the Big D's Challenge .

I've lived about 5 blocks from this place for 3 years and I only was recently introduced to their burgers. They are by far the best burger in town. Pricing is a little higher than what you might expect but for the amount of food you get it's worth it! The staff is very nice as well. If you order in person they make it there on the spot so expect to wait about 10 minutes, however you can call in and order and it's usually ready within 10 to 15 minutes so you can pick it up right at the counter. Highly recommended!

I think the other reviews drastically overshoot the quality of these burgers. Although I don't think there is any place in town that makes an "outstanding" burger...Willies in Manhattan is the best I have had so far...this place is pretty good. The buns are by far the best part of the burger. The meat is greasy and toppings a are low quality; for example canned jalepenos...after a night of partying this place would hit the spot but I would not recommend it to anyone who would go there sober! Very friendly wait staff.

Customize your burger with an egg, onion rings, fried mushrooms and pickles. Great local food to order.

Old style shack diner but with great food and quick service. Might be a little hard to find but well worth it. Use all KS beef and dairy products. If you get bacon on the burger they chop the bacon up instead of strips.

This is the place for the best burger in Manhattan. Fresh ingredients, excellent beef taste and great fries and other sides. Even though this is a burger shack, the service is outstanding.
