Okay ... I haven't been to Liberal in 20 years but was looking forward to breakfast at The Pancake House again and eating one of their famous Apple Pancakes, but you know how when you're overly anticipating something it ends up disappointing? Well, I was NOT disappointed! Yum, just like I remembered!! How can small town Liberal, Ks have these amazing pancakes and you can't find them in big cities?? Stopping back in again on the way out of town for one more taste!!

Great food (pancakes were unsurprisingly delicious). Great service. Our waitress was super sweet and efficient. Great prices (breakfast for 3 was under $20). Loved this place! If you're in Liberal to need to eat here after you do the Land of Oz tour across the street.

What a great place. The staff was super friendly & never had to wait to get a refill. I tried the apple pancake which was awesome but I would consider it more of a french toast. However don't freak out when they bring it out it will deflate.

Military personnel traveling through via helicopter at the local airport. Spent the night in Liberal and had an AWESOME breakfast at Pancake House. Very old school diner and the chef has been working there for many, many years. Eggs were cooked perfectly to order and even the coffee was brewed to perfection and my cup was never below 1/4. The staff knew everyone by name in this small town, they were courteous to us "outsiders" and made us feel like locals.

I was in Liberal for work and found out about the Pancake House on Yelp. The people are friendly, the service is quick and the breakfast was good. I enjoyed an omelet with original pancakes. They have a variety of pancake flavors to chose from. It seems this is THE breakfast/brunch spot in town.

This place rocks! It's truly a hidden gem. When I'm back home, this is one of my very favorite places to grab some breakfast. Everything is delicious, but if you wanna try crepes at their finest, try them out here. This restaurant has been around forever & in this ever changing world, it's great to see a classic like the Pancake House still maintain it's high quality food & service. If you're staying in Liberal, KS or just driving through, definitely give it a try. You won't regret it!

I found myself at the Pancake house on my way down to a match in the middle of nowhere New Mexico, which rather expectedly leads one through many other places in the middle of nowhere. One such charming local was Liberal, KS. Having driven through the night, we were in the mood for some good breakfast and I was not particularly thrilled at the thought of another mcmuffin. So, I quickly pulled up my handy Yelp App and quickly searched for some culinary oasis. Pancake house appeared as that last best hope. It seemed unassuming, with a kind of 70s chic befitting of such a place. Like a temple of quarter inch faux wood paneling to the great american cafe. I took in the diversity of patrons coming from all walks of life in the small town. Some old ranchers and some young families, they all came for the egg centric menu. We asked the waitress what was best on the menu and she recommended some supreme Tex-Mex themed omelette. It was a mound of all the basic ingredients of good cafe food; bacon, cheese, onions, peppers, salsa and of course eggs. The coffee was the kind of coffee that is meant to give you a taste of coffee, but not too much strength as to keep the octogenarians happy. It was good though, which can be difficult when dealing with old people coffee. I think what strikes most about the Pancake house for a reformed hipster is its unspoilt nature. Like much of the American West, it has yet to be fully tamed. It embodies exactly what the diner was suppose to be, simple, affordable and utilitarian. You cannot find some exotic mix of smoked salmon and arugula benedict on a bed of quinoa. Nor will you find a special key to decipher what can be made v, ve or g. Everything is made with just the right amount of butter and bacon fat. So if you wish to eat a slice of americana and you happen to be in Liberal, KS, then Pancake house.

Moving on down the road to the Pancake House, located in at 640 E Pancake Blvd in Liberal - a city who pronounces themselves as some sort of pancake capital of the United States - I'll simply say that from the moment we walked in I wanted to leave - and wished more and more that we'd have ordered the full dozen at the Donut Whole. Stating up front that I really did not expect "great" things from The Pancake House, what I did hope for was good service and decent pancakes - the first inexplicably absent as our server essentially threw menus on the table before us before sauntering off and subsequently offered only the bare minimum of human interaction necessary to fulfill her duties as she hammed it up with a table of septuagenarian men at the table across the way. Moving onto the food - focusing on the options deemed "house specialties" on the store's menu - I was admittedly pleasantly surprised by my mother's $5.50 Dutch Pancake which was crispy on the edges and pillowy soft within, but my "massive" apple pancake (a pancake for which the restaurant has a 'wall of fame' praising those who finish it) was doughy, largely flavorless, and the apple almost imperceptible without the apple syrup. It was also quite small - I finished it on principle along with two buttermilk biscuits and could have easily finished another, though I'm not sure why anyone would want to...though I guess it's nice to know that my name exists in the bright lights of Liberal, Kansas for my efforts.

Breakfast is my thing I'll admit it so I waited from May to Oct before I could stop for breakfast on my way back home. Great selection (50+), super fast service and great pricing. I had buttermilk pancakes, eggs and sausage. It does not get any better than this for me. I'll be back for any meal as I could eat breakfast 3 times a day.

Outside it doesn't look like much. Inside is about the same. However, from the greeter to the waitresses, the customer service was fantastic. The food was excellent. Everything is made from scratch. Excellent value. A must if your in Liberal.

I came thru here Wed morning after dropping off a crew at Loves down the Highway, After I placed my order my dispatched called to ask that I meet my crew because they lefted something in my van. I asked the waitress to hold off on my order until I returned, She said no problem, and waited until I returned to start my order. Order was worth the cost and the wait very thankful that they waited. Looking forward to coming back when I,m in town again.

Good place overall. They do have some trouble w/ 'special orders'. We ordered something w/ EggBeaters. Apparently, they bought 'southwest' style egg beaters....each of the 3 times it came to us, we went it back because it was spicy. They were never able to figure it out. Great pancakes and down home 'breakfast' specials.

So happy to pull in off the road and find such a great place to eat. I do wish I hadn't had crepes for breakfast in Wichita, because I would have ordered that fantastic apple pancake. Keep in mind that they close at 1:00pm, at least according to the sign. No frills, no froufrou. Just good food.

I can't believe I didn't review this place a couple years ago. I was on a 5000 mile motorcycle ride and I rolled through Liberal around 10 in the morning starving. I didn't expect much in this small town, but I was blown away by the Pancake house. Bottomless coffee, a great buzz, and of course...the famous Apple Pancake. I had a great meal and a good time....and while I came in starving I left full and happy. How does it get any better than that.... And just in case you want to know what you can do in LIberal...well the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and the gang live just across the hiway.

When we walked in on a Sunday morning around 9 am we were greeted by a nice hostess who showed us to our booth. It looked like any small town café and had the wonderful smell of breakfast food in the air. We all ordered pretty much the same items, wife and I the eggs, meat, hash brown and pancake platter. I went with chocolate chip cakes and she went with the butterscotch. My son got the kids plate with choc. chip cakes, eggs and a meat. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. The pancakes weren't the prettiest I have seen, but the taste sure made me overlook that very quickly! They were some of the most tender pancakes I have had and were loaded with chips inside and also on top. My wife's cakes were very good too. Looks like we will be back in Liberal this summer and will make sure we visit again.
