I've eaten here at least 15 times and have never had a bad experience or bad food. The Mexican roll is fantastic and they do fish collar and live scallops very well. Can't recommend enough going there if you want sushi or good Japanese food in general.

Individual sushi can be a bit on the pricy side but the food was pretty good and good quality. We started with fried calamari which was pretty good. They don't use the tempura batter but they cook it with panko which leaves the calamari crispy. They gave a weird vinegar dipping sauce that I wasn't a fan of so I just got spicy mayo as a dip. Yum. For entrees, I got the chirashi which came with a good amount of sashimi on sushi rice. For $18 it was pretty good. I wish it had roe but I might be just picky. :p My bf got a rainbow roll. Pretty good.

Good sushi, great service. This is a great sushi place that also has regular Asian plates and features some Thai food too. The menu is huge but one of my favorite things about this place is that there is a picture book with all the sushi on it so you can see what the roll looks like. You are basically given a stack of menus (I think 5 - specials menu, sushi, sushi pictures, regular menu, drinks/sake). I never stray away from the obvious choices on sushi but it is quality, fresh sushi and doesn't taste old or anything. We visit this place when we're craving sushi. It's the best in the area, hands down.

Another amazing Edokko experience. Had spicy scallop (my go to) and the Tokyo kid rolls. Very good, no fresher seafood in town. Fresh wasabi is a must. Also had masago sushi, miso soup and seaweed salad. Washed down with a good green tea and Haiku sake. Good suggestion on waitress (Cindy) suggestion. Hubby had squid teriyaki. Couple with us loved the razor clam, jalapeño popper roll, and volcano roll. Love this place so much.

My boyfriend and I always have a wonderful experience here! The staff is attentive and helpful! The fish is always fresh and they have some great deals when you do a dinner for two or dinner for three or even a sashimi combo! They are always thinking up new rolls and new drinks! The space is spacious and clean! And I hear they are going to add hibachi soon!!!!

Meh. Tonkatsu was too bready (my own vocab) and almost tasted burnt. I should have gone with the ramen since that's what I was in the mood for. Service was mediocre. Not over the top good and not terrible either.

The restaurant have a huge selection of food on the menu, I spend almost 15 minutes to decide what I want to get. They have very friendly service, the waitress and the manager is very kind and always there if you need anything. However, I have to say this places is kind of expensive, I felt like the sushi is a little expensive. The combo box doesn't give you as much food as the price you paid for. But I like the way how the food is set up, it looks very attractive.

Considering we're in the midwest, this is one of the best sushi spots when you need a fix! I LOVE the guy at the sushi bar- he's kind, and very generous with portions. Fish is always fresh.

Let me tell you a secret about sushi restaurants. Always call and ask which day of the week they get fresh shipments in, then come in the night of or the following day. This is why experienced sushi foodies never eat sushi on Sundays and Mondays (Shipping companies don't run on weekends and the Fish Market is closed on Sunday so nothing ships Monday). If you have something special in mind (like fresh jumbo scallops), ask the owner to place an order for your group. Edokko gets their shipment in on Thursdays, so Thursday nights and Fridays are the best days to enjoy fresh sushi here. We ordered the combo sashimi platter, Hamachi Kama, fresh jumbo scallop sashimi, and Spanish mackerel sashimi with fried bones. All the sashimi were very fresh, the tuna was very tasty, and the Hamachi Kama (Yellow tail cheeks - pan fried) were very good. Also, ask for fresh wasabi (fresh chopped Japanese green radish - I hate the instant powder crap). Wash everything down with their house warm sake and Kirin Ichiban to complete the meal. Overall, shockingly good sashimi for a small place in Lenexa. Now the bad. I have to agree with the other Yelpers. The service here operates at a snail pace, even on a slow Thursday night with only 5 tables (3 wait staffs). This is why family business fail, it is when you hire you kids/nieces/nephew to help run your business. They usually have 0 passions and hate their jobs, running your business to the ground. I hope the owner realizes this and hire professional wait staff. It's a really nice establishment, I would hate to see it being another restaurant fail statistic. My Patient Yelpers, please give this place a shot on Thursday and Friday nights. Don't expect a fast lunch here, so dinner is best. FOOD = 4 / SERVICE = 2 / AVERAGE = 3 STARS

Update: I really do still love this restaurant, I've been several times now, and have never had a bad experience. Service is always friendly and attentive, even the water guy is friendly and funny and quick on the refills. The owner/matronly lady is very demanding of her staff to be on top of things. My favorite roll is definitely the special tuna roll. We ordered this during one of our trips, and they accidentally brought us the regular spicy tuna roll. When we pointed out

First time here today and I am very pleased. The server was so sweet, gave us plenty of attention and refilled our water often (which is nice) we ordered two Las Vegas rolls, spider roll, house salad, miso soup and crab rangoon. I was so surprised on how big the Vegas rolls were; because all the other sushi places I've been too (I've been to almost every sushi restaurant in KC) their Vegas rolls were probably 5 pieces max. But this one gave us plenty! We didn't even finish our food, boxed it up for later. Overall my experience here was great! Definitely coming back!

Went on a Sunday and there were a few people in the restaurant. Prepare for a long wait to get your order. I was offered a complimentary cup of miso soup which was needed. I was getting hungry! There is one person making sushi and people are not happy with the speed of service. Not only did I get the miso free, I was given 10% off my bill and my Tokyo Kid roll ($13 roll) free! The sushi was amazing, really well done. If I come back it will be on a lazy Sunday when I have little to do, like today:) Hire more back of house employees and I will be back more often.

I'm a huge fan of Edokko. I've been eating here since not long after they first opened. I've eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants in the KC area. Some are okay, many are terrible, and only a handful have been exceptional. This is one of them. Edokko boasts some of the freshest sushi I've tasted. They have a LOT of different rolls, and unlike some lesser sushi joints (*ahem* Drunken Fish *ahem*), they do not deep-fry 75% of their rolls... LOL Yes, there are fried rolls, but most are not. They have a great selection of sake, tasty kitchen fare (like traditional teriyaki dishes and a small, recently-added Thai menu with some killer Pad Thai). I love their weekly sushi specials promoting hard-to-find items like LIVE UNI, LIVE SCALLOPS?!, and Saikou Salmon. You'll die, but in a good way. The staff is super friendly, including the owner who almost always stops by every table when she's in (which is most of the time). The only two drawbacks to this establishment are the pricing and location. Pricewise, it is a bit more than you'll find at nearby restaurants, but I find the extra $5 or so to be worth it. The location is a drawback only because it's tucked away out of sight from 87th street, so a lot of people overlook it or just don't know it's there. If you are a sushi lover or a lover of most Asian cuisine, you should give Edokko a try!!

I met with a lot of people here and not surprisingly, a couple people didn't show up and didn't they tell anybody they couldn't make it. Fortunately, we were very close to the number of people who said would come and it ended up working. I was the first of the group to show up so I sat at the bar and talked to the bartender. He was a white guy with a great personality. One of the guys that were supposed to meet up came by the bar to wait with me and started up a conversation with the bartender. They really hit it off which may or may not show the bartender's personality. Anyways, we sat down at our three-tables-combined-together table. Our waiter was cool and had a sense of humor. He explained the sushi menu and anything we wanted from the kitchen would need to be written on the provided lines of the menu. I was pretty hungry so I thought I would be able to order a bunch of food. I ordered a Crab meat with Mango Roll ($10.50), a Green Devil Roll ($10.95), a Lenexa Roll ($10.25), and a Shrimp Tempura Ramen ($12.95). The Green Devil Roll and Lenexa Roll both had soybean paper instead of seaweed so I decided to try those since I don't think I've had sushi with soybean paper. The food took a very long time to come out and it was probably one hour before our food came out. We all received complimentary miso soup (nobody wanted onion soup) and soon after, we were all just waiting and waiting for our food. The waiter asked if we wanted the kitchen food first since the sushi would take another 10 minutes. We all agreed so we got our food. The Shrimp Tempura Ramen was good and the broth was tasty. It would definitely be enough to make you full but not too full. Our sushi came out soon after. I was full so I was only able to eat a few pieces of sushi. The Lenexa Roll and Green Devil Roll were both okay and I wasn't really liking the soybean paper. The Crab meat with Mango Roll was good though. The food was decent but the service was pretty slow. Be prepared to wait.

Yummmmm! This place is great. The food is awesome and I loved everything I e eaten here. It's a little hidden, but worth it. It's never busy here, which is sad. Sometimes we wait a while for our check is the only downside. Sometimes I got stuff to do and need to go!!!!!

Good quality food. Hefty price on them. Servers are very nice and understand their products very well. The owner, an elder lady, on the other hand is racist. She treat some customers ok but can be very rude sometimes. All depend on her mood. Be prepared for extremely long waiting time, not only on busy days but every single time. No wifi provided.

The food is okay, got noodle, but it was kinda too plain. Sushi was also just okay. We went for lunch, it was not busy but we did not get water refiled for the entire time. Owner seemed upset about my kid making a mess (I even apologized about it and tried to clean as much as possible, but he is only 2yr old. Kid makes mess) when we apologize for the mess, she even didn't say anything back to us, gave us an attitude. No one said thank you or anything when we left. It was a sad experience since this place was recommended by my friend.

Just like every BBQ place can't be OK Joe's and every grilled salmon can't come from the Farmhouse, every sushi place can't be the best in town. But it can definitely be A-OK and quell the craving. Edokko falls in to that perfectly fine but not fantastic 3-star range. Not anything actually bad I could say about it-- the sushi was good but not great, the service was friendly but slow, the prices were about average for KC-- but nothing spectacular either. When we're roaming the wilds of Lenexa and need sushi, I'm sure we'll drop back in. But we likely won't make a lot of date night plans ahead of time that include this as a stop.

I have eaten at Edekko at least four times in the last two years, when it was busy and not so busy. The experience has always been the same, slow service and the table is never fed at the same time. The food is solid. I can't complain about the sushi or sashimi. They also have my favorite Japanese beer, Asahi Super Dry in a big bottle. Thank God for that Asahi, because it helps me during my agonizing wait for the food. I'm not sure why they have such slow food service and I would understand if it were the holidays and they were packed to the gills. However, every time? And it seems only half the table will get their food first, while the others wait. When the rest of the food comes out, the first to eat are finished. It's not a great dining or visiting experience when that happens. Cue the crickets sounder please. I will say the owner is very personable and she even gave a seaweed packet to my sister-in-law when asked where she could buy it. The decor is nice and the place is relatively clean. If they could just hurry it up in the kitchen I would be a regular there. I do not plan on going back.

Went here on a weekend night and my goodness was it different. I usually get the take out of lunch special 3 rolls for $13, which is most often good for lunch of spicy tuna or spicy salmon and good abundance. But this experience was a bad eye opener, I will point out that the server was very good, attentive, and checking on us frequently. The sushi, however, was a different story which is what a sushi restaurant specializes in right? Well, the sushi was not good, the usual spicy tuna or salmon I get was on not as spicy as I'd hope and it maybe the fact that I have had better now, and there was too many giant chunks of jalapeño to the rolls....acting as just a filler not mixing well with the fish. The white tuna and jalapeño roll we had we each had a piece and sent it back (which they still charged, if I was the owner I wouldn't if a customer was dissatisfied). The white tuna seemed to be defrosted right before serving to us, 75% of it was cooked, with the center 25% being cooked. I would've understood if there were trying to do the "searing" effect, they masterfully failed. It did not have that searing taste and too much of the piece was cooked! And honestly it tastes like something I'd defrosted in the microwave. So despite the good service giving the 2 stars and the consideration of lunch specials, this place isn't worth it for a nice dinner out if you are a big fan of authentic sushi. Won't be back... appetite has been ruined and been spoiled by better sushi and better pricing at others places. Good authentic sushi? Stop by Niji in Olathe. Looking for sushi buffet? This place is overpriced and not much variation to specialty rolls, hit up sake lounge.

We love sushi and sashimi, and we are now going to be regular patrons of this place. Excellent choices, superb presentation, and wonderful flavors were evident with everything we ordered. We highly recommend here if you are on the Kansas side of the state line or Mint if you are on the Missouri side ... best sushi in a town better known for its bar-b-que.

Morbid curiosity sometimes draw customers back to scene of crime. Rude and angry at customer, Middle age Japanese waiter is number one jackass. Surely a relative of owner to achieve such status, he is number one reason I am hesitant to come back. Mediocre sushi at top ramen prices! Ocean have many fish, this restaurant sells oldest ones. Opportunity will never knock again. Humble family will wait another year before testing flavorless fish. When number one wife ask question about dessert flavor, waiter very rude: Hasty conclusion like hind leg of mule - kick backward. Slippery man sometimes slip in own oil. Calling manager is one way of discharging dangerous employee. Old excuse, like ancient billy goat, has whiskers. Hasty conclusion like gunpowder - easy to explode: Diarrhea eminent!

This is quite possibly the worst sushi place in KC. Usually I'm generous in my reviews but this was just not good at all. My friend and I went over here for lunch the other day. We are both well versed in sushi and often try new places when we can. We had never eaten here before and decided it would be a good place to try. When I got there it was deserted. There was only one other guy there and it was 12:00o'clock high. Not a good sign. I arrived first and was waiting on my friend while the server quickly took care of me. My friend showed up and we were looking at the kiddie menu with all the pictures. Now I'm not going to lie, I love looking at pictures of food on a menu. I think it would be cool if even the high end places would do it, but they won' t cause it's tacky. I was deliberating my choices and decided on the shrimp tempura. My friend got the eel roll and something else like the BMW roll or KC something or other. As well as some Mackerel. My tempura was almost cold and the batter wasn't light and crispy, it was heavy and flaky. His rolls were, tbh, gross. The eel roll had Salmon skin on it, which I had never seen before and the other one was just not good. We both tried to stomach it, but we didn't enjoy it. Needless to say, I was not impressed and will never go back. If you are looking for good sushi imo, go to Sushi House in Leawood.

Decided to try out Edokko since I recently moved to the 87th street area. Previously I had been frequenting Sushi Mido off of Shawnee Mission Parkway for my fix. I think 4 stars is a safe compromise between these key areas: *2 stars for wait time on food - we were there for over 2 hours from start to finish and only received half of our food to start with (an hour in). *3 stars for the service from the waiter - hit and miss, only had two servers working on a busy evening *4 stars for the interior - I loved the style of the restaurant, very classy. Not at all what I was expecting from a sushi restaurant in a strip mall in Lenexa. And they have koi at the front! *4 stars for the quality of the food - sushi rolls (Las Vegas roll - stellar, Eel roll - eh, eel was mushy...), nigiri (salmon, 2-for-1 on Thursdays), and soup (complimentary). *5 stars for the owner of the restaurant - a little old adorable lady that I wish was my grandma. She was the best part of the experience to be honest. She seated us with the menus and explained each one, asked us where we had heard about them, told us she hoped we enjoyed 'her restaurant and food', checked on us several times, and always had a big smile on. I think I will be back, definitely with time to spare, because although this was a yummy meal, it was definitely an evening affair.

Oh my goodness! I have such a happy belly and mouth. The Suzuki made my mouth sing and the special Solano roll was as fresh as the California town it shares a name with....actually, MUCH fresher. We enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch and were not feeling the need to hurry. I wouldn't say the service was slow...but it was SUPER friendly. We sat ar the bar and enjoyed conversation qith the sushi chef AND the proprietress. Well done, great sushi in Kansas...it CAN be done!

Edokko has some mighty tasty sushi. I've been there at least a couple of dozen times over the years and have never been disappointed with the sushi. In fact, they're my favorite place for sushi in Kansas City. There are some things that are skippable in my opinion, including pretty much all of their appetizers and their dinner salad is pathetic. But you don't go to a sushi place for this stuff, anyway, right? My favorite roll is the Tokyo Kid Roll. The Nigiri is wonderful as well and they give generous portions. They also give you a complimentary bowl of miso soup, but it's not always offered by the servers. Lately, I have had to ask for it. Some drawbacks? They do charge $2 per person for green tea and it's usually pretty weak. I tend to order it in the winter, anyway, because I like something warm to drink with my cold sushi. They bring one pot for the whole table and don't replenish it, so if you have a table of 4, you pay $8 for a pot, but if you're by yourself, you pay $2 for a pot. Seems a bit silly to me. Also, the service here has really dropped off lately. The hubby and I have eaten here twice in the last 3 weeks and have been utterly disappointed with the service both times. We had the same waitperson on both occasions and she was simply a mess lacking in organization, customer service skills and knowledge about the food she is serving. During the earlier of the latest two visits, we waited for 45 minutes for an appetizer. By then, we were chewing each other's arms off and flagged down the waitress asking her if it might possibly be ready. She looked flustered and ran around in a few circles seemingly confused and unable to focus before retrieving our very cold appetizer. Not once did she apologize for the delay...she just plopped it in front of us and quickly left. No plates were given for our appetizers, so we ate straight from the serving plate. We were so grateful to have food at that point that we gulped it down quickly while awaiting our sushi. The sushi took another 20 minutes to arrive and we had to flag down the host and ask him if we might have plates for our sushi. Of course, it's really difficult to enjoy one's food when completely ravenous so when the bill arrives, you feel you've been cheated. The interior is nice. Very simply decorated with an Asian theme. The seating appears to be mostly booths which allows for comfortable intimate dining. It always appears very clean and well-maintained. So Edokko gets a 4 from me, but probably doesn't deserve a 4, because the service has been atrocious lately. I'm being a bit generous because the sushi is good and the service hasn't always been so terrible. We'll try Edokko a couple more times for sure because the sushi is generally worth putting up with bad service, but if we continue to get bad service, you can bet that we'll start frequenting other sushi restaurants more frequently.

The best place for sushi in Midwest, and I have been to my fair share in an attempt to find the best blend of value and fresh fish. Their serving sizes are always generous and this is one place where it pays off to experiment trying new rolls. They have monthly specials which are usually incredible, and they keep them on hand so if you like one you can order it year round. I'm not a huge fan of any of their Japanese cuisine though, it usually feels like it's missing that extra oomph. However, they are hands-down the best place for sushi around, which deserves 5 stars.

WOW! I think I may have found my favorite sushi spot in KC (well....Lenexa, KS if you want to be more specific)....bold words, I know, but let me tell you why.....So I actually purchased a Groupon for here (and now I wish I bought 3 more!!) for $40 worth of Japanese food. First off, everyone was so nice and welcoming when we first got there! It was really great and made us feel really comfortable. We asked our waiter for recommendations because we are sushi and sashimi lovers!! He suggested the Sushi and Sashimi Combo for 2 ($50!!!!) but it was sooooo worth it with the Groupon. First came 2 house special rolls....the Dragon Roll and the Spicy Spider roll (8 pieces each). Both were tasty, but honestly, neither of them really blew my mind. I've had similar rolls like these in the past.....Seattle would win over them. But the sashimi platter was fantastic! We had 18 pieces of fresh, thick cuts of fish.....it was awesome! This is how sashimi should be served! We had 9 varieties of fish....Salmon, shrimp, tuna, white salmon, shrimp....and 4 others but I forget :(. My favorites were the salmon and the white salmon....the white salmon was amazing and just melted in your mouth! I saw another table order a Tekka (tuna) don, which is just lots of tuna sashimi over a bed of warm rice and it looked awesome! Next time I will definitely get the Spicy Tekka or the Sake (salmon) don. The only bad thing about this place was that the green tea did not come with our meal, which they did not tell us.....It was $2 per person!! Usually at other sushi bars/restaurants, the tea is free so that you actually taste the different flavors of sashimi. Pros: - Wonderful service that was very friendly and helpful - Restaurant is designed to look like a Japanese Tea House and waiters are dressed in traditional Japanese garb....a little cheesy, but if people have never seen this before it would be entertaining - thick cuts of sashimi and it was definitely very filling!! Cons: - Green tea is a rip off here....at most sushi places, tea comes free.....but here it costs $2 per person!!! Why I gave it a 4..... This may beat out Kato as my fave KC sushi place.....service was great and everyone was really friendly! The sashimi tasted very fresh for the MidWest and I loved how they were thick cuts....this is how it is suppose to be people! I wish other sushi restaurants in KC would pick up on this! I love Edokko and I want to come back....it is far from where I live and I dinged them a star because of that and because of what a rip off the green tea was!! Really........$2 per person for green tea?? Wish you could have told us and I would have said no!!

I'm from California and we have some VERY good sushi restaurants here...but i travel a lot and I always have to try a sushi bar no matter what city I am in. I was extremely surprised to find Edokko and never would have thought Kansas City had good sushi!? The service is slow, so if you're in a hurry go elsewhere, but the grade of sushi is wonderful. They have a good selection of rolls and their quality of sashimi is top notch. I just began writing reviews and will only comment on the places I want kept around =)

Each time we go to Edokko, the service gets worse! The last visit has forced me to write a review. We went in on a Saturday afternoon. It took awhile for our waiter to come to the table. I asked him about one of the specials written on the board and his description was "lobster with some veggies". Hmm ok, we will try it anyways. Then I asked for extra avocado because my 1 yr old loves it. He tells me that he can't ring it up because there is no option for just avocado. Was not aware that a few pieces of avocado was that big of a deal because everywhere else we go they have given us almost half an avocado! After we finished our order, he said "the lobster is not the same roll like you order..." So I ask what's the difference then? "I TOLD YOU ALREADY!!" I look at my boyfriend thinking did this guy really just get mad at me because I didn't understand his wonderful description?!? I gave it 2 stars because the food is pretty good...just wish the service matched!

Last night I had a life changing experience, for I dined at Edokko. I may never be the same. This is hands down the best sushi in KC. If it's not, please correct me, because I CAN NOT imagine it getting any better than this. Better than Jun's, Nara, Sukkura, Kyoto, Sushi Gin, Kona (duh)..etc. We met the lovely owner, Ann, who visited our table throughout the evening to check up on us. She shared with us that they make all of their sauces from scratch to avoid undesirable and often unnecessary ingredients. We were offered complimentary soup and it was just fine. I'm not a huge fan of miso, but if you give it to me for free I will gladly indulge. If you are new to Sushi, this may or may not be a good place to have your first experience. They have a fantastic menu that describes the sushi and provides a picture of what the item looks like, they even have a picture drink menu . This would be a great way for a newbie to experience sushi, or for a regular to branch out. On the other hand, once you eat at Edokko you will be spoiled, and ruined for any other sushi venture. The rolls at Edokko are huge, and the attention to details is apparent. The rice is cooked to perfection. The sake bombs were debilitating and the sashimi were delectable. My palette was singing praises all night long. We shared too much food for two people. We had the Green Devil Roll, a Philly roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a spicy tuna roll. We also ordered salmon, smoked salmon and tuna sashimi. It was WAY too much food, but we enjoyed every last morsel. My personal favorite was the Green Devil Roll. On top of the fantastic service and outstanding food, this restaurant is very clean. The only unfavorable feedback I have is that about 30 minutes passed from the time we placed our order to receiving it. In hindsight, it was most definitely worth the wait, but at the time I was starting to wonder.... I can't say enough about this unassuming Sushi restaurant in Lenexa. It was absolutely fabulous!

I was in last night for dinner with my sister. It was late and during the week, the place was maybe a quarter full. It's a really big restaurant and it was very clean. Our server, seems like his name was Will, was friendly and attentive. I LOVE that they have a picture menu, it really made ordering the sushi easy and fun. We made our selections and the food came out in a timely manner. Everything was fresh tasting, colorful and delicious. Our favorite was a roll with mango and tempura shrimp. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The bill came, we had mentioned at the beginning that we had a Groupon, and Will was very nice about it, he handled it professionally. (MANY times I feel like I get the second-class treatment when I use a Groupon or Restaurant.com GC, this was absolutely NOT The case at Edokko). I look forward to going back!

Oy, so not a fan here. I came here a couple weeks ago because I was hankering for some Japanese and I don't know enough about the area so I randomly picked one. We ordered mussels which, took longer than our actual course. But I could see the sushi chef in the back essential swiping a large scoop of mayo and popping it in a toaster oven. How off-putting! Needless to say, it did not taste so well. My tempura ramen was rather bland and the broth (which is the same broth as the tempura dipping sauce!!!) was filled with noodles, only. No vegetables or anything else. Yikes. My husband got the tonkatsu which was ok, and a bit dry. All in all not a very good experience. ...

I was rather surprised when I read some of the negative reviews as I've never had that experience at Edokko before. The service has always been solid and the sushi consistent. I love to hit this place up when I have a groupon or restaurant.com certificate. Makes the sushi too good of a deal to pass up. The white tuna is by far my fave, a must order every trip.

1st thing if you order hot tea the tea kettle is cast iron and HEAVY. I swear it is 10 pounds when full. It was also big enough for 4 cups of tea. Yummy. Ordering is easy. Write down how many rolls you want of which kind. If you want something off the regular menu just write it in on the lines provided. Waiters were very nice and the bartender was a little odd. He kept making samples of drinks and food and only offering them to one table that was behind me, after ease dropping found out they were friends and he was trying new stuff out on them. Kind of rude not to offer others, but whatever. The eels roll was magnificent, the California roll was ok and the pork dumplings were very good. Only thing I didn't like was all the 20 something year old kids talking really loud about how they hate their McJobs and how they want to try all the special drinks on the menu and how exotic the drinks are. I was probably just there at the wrong time and should try going back later in the evening instead of right after work. The food was varied and I would like to go back and try more. The atmosphere was just a little off for me and I will blame that on all the Gap/Build-a-bear Employees that were there talking way to loud. It clashed with what should have been a quite sushi bar.

Headed to Edokko with a big group of people a few weekends ago, maybe 12 or 14 (cocktails clouded my counting skills). The bartender was surprising an older caucasian gentleman, but he had a great personality and poured the drinks strong. No need to settle up here, he transferred the drinks to our table when it was ready. The menu is pretty extensive and even a child could order sushi here since there are pictures of each piece next to it's description. After some debate, we all ordered a few rolls to share. Here is where it got dicey, it took over an hour to get all the food out. If you wanted another drink, that was 20 minutes. The restaurant was semi busy, but nothing that would qualify the server to be in the "weeds." Overall, not a bad spot. It's really open, lacks authenticity, but the food is decent.

The food was great and the staff was as nice as can be. Sushi is my favorite food and I can be picky. This was super fresh, very tasty and authentic. The real wasabi was a treat and they always have great specials. I recommend this to anyone who loves good sushi.

I have been to this restaurant at least 10 times in the past 9 months and each experience is worse than the last. I am sincerely disappointed with the slow service and sushi. It took an hour from the time I entered the place to when I left for lunch...at 1:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. Two other tables were seated so the place was almost empty. I sat at the sushi bar and saw the server two times. First time to take my order, second to give me a check and clear my plate. When I asked for salad instead of soup, she had to ponder the possibility and finally I told her onion soup would be fine. By onion soup, this means some broth with a sliver of fried onion and a mushroom. The sushi was WARM and the rice was soggy and undercooked (I don't know how that is possible). The sushi chef took forever and I seriously hope I don't get some kind of tapeworm from the warm fish. I don't know what has changed over the past several months but I must say I won't be going back in a long time, if ever. Best of luck to those who enjoy the mediocre service, sushi, and hour long lunch service.

This place has really good food with generous portions. The service was a little slow but they got two large tables when we arrived. The food was worth the wait. Get the green lantern drink! It is to die for!

The best sushi ever! The owner Annie is always so generous and offers us new things to try. They have the best drinks and their sushi rolls are so creative. The atmosphere is authentic and artistic its so beautiful to be in you totally lose track of time! On top of all that it has been the most affordable sushi for the quality we have found to date.

The food here was DISAPPOINTING!!!! I don't get the rave reviews. I had the Tuna Nigiri, which was eh....okay, and the sweet potato roll, which was suprisingly good. For the main dinner, I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Ramen.....It was BLAND, I tell you, BLAND!!!! I literally almost poured all the soy sauce in their little container just to have some taste. Ugh!!!! My fiance wanted Ramen with some broth and chicken but of course they can't do that cause it's not on their menu. Who would've thought it would be hard to make Ramen with broth and add chicken to it!!!! I've been to other Japanese restaurants and there is such a thing as chicken Ramen and it's not the instant kind. Anyways, since he couldn't have what he wanted he ordered the Yaki Ramen with chicken, which should be called Yucky. He barely ate. I noticed there were a few choice comments about the service. I definitely agree about the service being bad. The service took to long and you had to keep bobbing your head up and down to kind of let people know that you're ready or needing something. We left unsatisfied and paid the bill. We ended up eating at Waffle House just to satisfy the hunger. :(

First trip to Edokko was for a solo lunch on a weekday. Chose to sit at the sushi bar and received excellent service as well as interesting conversation with one of the sushi chefs. Ordered miso soup (gratis!) and the two rolls for $8.50 lunch special. I selected the spicy tuna roll and the eel roll. Both were eight pieces. Both were excellent, and I couldn't pick a favorite if you made me. I finished my plate but certainly didn't need to. Definitely shareable for a lunch w/ soup. Great experience, not a single complaint, I'll be back.

I really hope this sushi place makes it. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the sushi is awesome! It never seems very crowded when I go in there, so thats why I'm writing this review... Get over there, people!!

I've been to Edokko a few times now and this review will attempt to address what they are calling their "lunch buffet" first off, if you're going for a buffet, this is one to stay away from. it has just a few items on it and for 10 bucks you can do much better at a place like Wei's or China Garden. I was expecting Sushi on the buffett, but unfortunately all they had were california rolls and spicey tuna rolls and that's it. you can order sushi at the regular price though they do have 2 rolls for 8 bucks as a lunch special. this is still one of my absolute favorite places to go for sushi, but if you're looking for a buffett, i'd stay away from Edokko.

Fell upon this place while craving sushi. Every place that we went was closed until we found Edokko. My buddy and I were surprised to learn that they have all you can eat sushi on Sundays for 24.95 including drink which is a great deal. The meal comes with soup and salad and you are allowed to eat from the Maki roll menu. Best spicy tuna I have had in a long time. I had three other rolls including the Las Vegas Roll which was amazing but very filling. The service was good as well, they were always checking to see if we were doing ok. I will for sure come back.

Out in the far flung burbs, but a decent place to get sushi in land-locked KC. We came here because of the Groupon, and we'll definitely come back. More on that later. The staff here was by far the best part of the experience. We started out by looking at the drink menu, which has a great retro-Asian American feel to it with beverages like the Singapore Sling, just to give an example. The menu did not have Chuhai though, which is my (and my husband's) favorite Japanese drink. Our server hadn't heard of it (it's shochu, soda and syrup, crazy popular in Japan), so the owner came over and chatted with us about how she could personally make one just for us. The gesture was fantastic, but we opted for beer instead. The restaurant was a bit busy, but when it took a long time for our order our server brought us complimentary Miso Soup and then complimentary Crab Rangoon. The later isn't something I ever saw in my two years of living in Japan, but it was free and they were trying to make us happy. Cool. The decor was quaint, what I might call Japanese-inspired, but without being too corny. The sushi was pretty good. The nigiri (raw fish on rice) was what I would call average for the Midwest, but the maki (rolls) were quite creative and tasty, and some of them were authentically Japanese. I will never understand why Americans like to put avocado in their sushi, but I'm willing to overlook it because I know that it's pretty standard in the U.S. The prices were pretty good, for about $45 we had one beer each, two orders of nigiri and three orders of rolls, an order of edamame, plus all the free stuff. We had intended to use our Groupon, but when we told the server this (prior to him bringing the check) he told us that we couldn't use it because we ordered the two for one sushi. Turns out that the nigiri we ordered were on special but we didn't realize it and they didn't inform us until we went to pay. So, we received eight pieces of nigiri when we ordered four. Honestly, we didn't even think anything of it with all the other complimentary things, so we were a bit surprised when they told us we couldn't use our Groupon. We had already decided that we wanted to come back as the service was so great and because we liked the sushi, so we just decided to save the Groupon for next time. They have an all you can eat sushi on Sunday for $25 (select items only) which would be a good option for folks craving masses of sushi. Definitely worth a stop on the Japanese-restaurant circuit of the KC area.

This is a solid Japanese restaurant and I would return if I was in the area, but I was expecting so much more from some of the reviews. Perhaps dinner is a different experience from lunch but, all in all, it was the definition of 3 stars - OK.

Travelling again!! So I hit a sushi place everytime. This is some of the best sushi I've ever had. Really. Fresh is the key element, and it was all fresh. I recomend the Kansas Roll. Sooooo Gooood!!!! (and for all you 'roll' people. don't use the soy sauce, it does ruin the taste.)

I come to Eudokko to eat cheap sushi. The food is ok but not even close to great. The staff had treated us like we are a hassel and it smells like raw sewage. If I am looking for cheap this is the place to go. For good sushi it's Juns all the way!

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. I am a sushi junkie. If it were the last thing on earth, I'd be one happy camper. And if it came from here - I'd have sworn I'd died and gone to heaven. This is only the second time eating here, but it's really becoming my favorite. We sat at the bar, and were lucky enough to be in front of the owner. She's truly a gem in her own right. Her attention to detail, the way she shared little nuggets of info, she really was interested in making us feel welcome. Their rolls are HUMONGOUS! We ordered 4, but 2 would have been plenty. She uses a higher-quality rice than most places and it's quite evident. You don't have that bloated "rice-coma" feeling afterwards. Another nice touch is that some of the rolls are wrapped in soy paper. It keeps the roll moist and isn't as tough as nori can be. If you wind up with leftovers, the soy paper-wrapped rolls fare much better. Last time I ate there, I was amazed at how well the sushi tasted the next day. Hubby had tempura ramen, and they always deliver the tempura on the side - so no mushy! And you get a TON! Big plus. We told her that is was refreshing to see a woman making sushi - traditionally it's always been men. She told us that the new trend coming out of Japan is more and more women are now becoming sushi chefs. It attracts the men. (Makes sense.) Thursdays are 2-for-1 nigiri and sashimi, and Sundays is all you can eat for $25 (2 roll at a time request). We will definitely be back. The place is clean, the staff is VERY friendly, the sushi is outstanding ... You need to check this hidden gem out!

Compared to other sushi and noodle spots in KC, Edokko gets three stars. Compared to Japanese spots in LA or San Diego? More like one star. So, bear in mind that my expectations here in the Midwest are definitely, shall we say, "adjusted." Kaiyo is really the only place that does much better, but Edokko is comparable to many other Japanese restaurants in the area. What do these mediocre places have in common? Lots and lots of maki rolls, and the rice is NOT seasoned, which irritates me to no end. Sushi shari should taste mildly of vinegar, and be a little salty, a little sweet. Here it is bland, bland, bland, and sometimes not even remotely warm. That blandness pretty much carries through many of the dishes on the menu, too. I understand from the owner that she's been through several recipes trying to tweak her broth in the noodle bowls to customers' tastes. It's a shame, because I start to wonder what her original recipe was? I feel for her trying to cook Japanese food to the Midwestern palate. But, I can't help but suspect that the menu has been so dumbed down here that the food has suffered. I admire her attempt to make Japanese food approachable to Lenexa, KS. It's an admirable aim and I'd bet her heart is in the right place. Lovely, spacious restaurant. Weak service except at the sushi bar, where it's far better than at booths or tables. You can do better, Edokko.

Insanely overpriced, they were advertising all-you-can-eat sushi for $30... that's a deal? Our server was rude. We had to ask multiple times for water. The sushi was good but it is much better at Yokohama in Lawrence for much less. Drunken Fish in P&L is out of the way but way more affordable in a better environment.

We will NEVER go back because of the service and the food wasn't that great. We were seated and our waitress Didn't show up for 7 minutes. When she did she said she would be back and disappeared for 10 more minutes. Mind you they were NOT busy. When she finally came back we ordered our food and I asked for a diet coke. When she brought us our soup she still didn't bring me my drink. She came back to clear our soup bowls away and still no diet coke. Finally when our sushi came I had to ask her again for my diet coke. I ordered baked mussels which is my favorite so I try it every where I go but I never got it because she forgot to put my order in. We ordered 6 rolls and only got 5 because they overlooked my huge pen mark for the yellow tail. The las Vegas roll was the worst I've ever had anywhere. The smoked salmon roll was blah, no smoke flavor. The Mexican roll was ok, had more Jalepeno then anything else. Shrimp tempura was decent. Probably the best thing we ate there. Philadelphia was also decent. I don't think anyone can mess that up. Miso soup was the most disgusting I've ever had! The broth was so cloudy! They put seaweed in it so it tasted like I was eating a bowl of fish sauce! If you've had fish sauce before you know that's disgusting to eat straight fish sauce!

What a gem of a place Edokko is, great product and a great place for lunch. The tuna and eel is very fresh here and the sushi rice is done the proper way. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar for the fastest service, I would give this place five stars but the service just isn't up to par at all. The owner is a very pleasant person to deal with and she always makes you feel at home. Thursday is buy one get one roll free and Sunday is all you can eat rolls can't beat those deals. I will be back soon and often.

After dining at Edokko this evening I have to say I was extremely disappointed. I have eaten there before at the sushi bar and was satisfied, but was at a table right behind the sushi bar tonight. We were quoted a ten minute wait which seemed reasonable, and although we waited over twenty minutes to be seated, I didn't think it was a big deal. It was, after all, a Friday evening. My table of three ordered drinks and an appetizer of mussels right away and were ready for a fun evening. Our server seemed friendly, although not extremely knowledgeable about specific sushi rolls, and we were told that our order of mussels would be out in fifteen minutes. Over an hour and a half later, we still did not have any mussles, despite inquiring about them at about the forty five minute mark. We waited over twenty minutes for our second round of drinks (wine). The sushi was good, not great, and after asking about the status of our order we were blatantly ignored by our server. We were not provided individual small plates to separate our sushi rolls out, and had to ask each time a water glass needed to be refilled. I understand that restaurants can get busy and that servers can have many tables to handle, but I was actually offended by the lack of courtesy shown tonight.

Right now you can get $50 worth of gift cards (2 $25 cards) for only $25! shopping.netsuite.com/s.… This place is better than Kona, RA, and Nara. They have a great early bird special on sushi from 4:00 - 6:00 - it's lunch prices. Their sushi menu is about 5 pages because it's a full color picture guide - perfect for beginners! The freshest sushi in KC at reasonable prices. They can accommodate food allergies too (gluten free friendly!). * I wish I could remember the name of the roll I get (they don't have their sushi rolls listed on their website). It was recommended to me by a regular there, and I crave it constantly now. It's on the backpage of the menu and is full of different kinds of seafood - maybe wrapped in radish paper?? - it's unique, but so delicious!

Great rolls and have a wide variety to choose from. I've personally tried the tempura vegetable roll, avocado roll, and sweet potato rolls. They have good soups and seaweed salad as well. Highly recommend this place!

My husband and I used to live and work within 2 miles of Edokko, so when we came across it, we were very excited that we didn't have to go far for a quick-sushi-fix! They have great pricing, delicious sushi rolls, and even a picture menu that describes the ingredients in each dish/roll. Several times that we've gone in the past couple years, the wait time has been a little long before we got our food. But all in all, we will keep going back to Edokko - and actually don't eat at any other japanese restaurant in KC!

A friend recommended Edokko to me well over a year ago, and today was the first time I visited. I took my daughter for her eighteenth birthday; she loves sushi. I am glad I read some reviews first, as this prepared me for the slow service. We went for lunch, and two servers were waiting on probably twenty customers. We decided on the maki lunch special which was three rolls for $11.50. Not bad! I ordered spicy tuna and spicy salmon, and my daughter ordered some kind of shrimp tempura and eel. We had crab rangoon to begin, and this was the best part of it, in my opinion. I tasted real crab, and the consistency was smooth. Utterly delicious!! The rolls I ordered left me a little disappointed. They were dry and had tempura flakes in them. Not my favorite. My daughter loved her entire meal, though. Overall, Edokko did not live up to my expectations. Believe it or not, I will still choose Kona's maki over this place. The prices here are definitely right, and I would return if I craved sushi and did not want to fight the Kona crowd. I am underwhelmed, though.

Went here a couple weeks ago with a friend so that he could expose me to the wonders of sushi. I thought all of it was great. The service was great and the price wasn't bad either, about what I expected to spend. Got two rolls for under $9 then spent a little extra on the ale cart to try some other kinds. I only rate it 4 out of 5 because of my inexperience with the cuisine. After trying more the rating may go up or down (but probably up).

Just dont go immediately after groupon release. Waited a month and tried again...this time was seated right away and the food was good. Best deal is the udon tempura. Bowl of noodle soup and a ton of tempura. Service was ok, place was clean.

The sushi was great, and you will be surprised by the size of the sushi. I've been to many sushi restaurants, and at some restaurants you only get a small sliver of raw fish on top a huge piece of rice. Not at Edokko, you get a large piece of fish that at some restaurants equals three orders. I was very impressed with the food, the fresh sushi, and the taste. It's been awhile since I had such great sushi. Try Edokko, you won't be disappointed. I'll definitely be going back for more.

I think it's hard to find a purest sushi restaurant in kc. One that's not a fusion japanese, nor a tepenyaki mix. This place is quality. Used to be a chinese restaurant. Decor is clean and well made. Mostly booths with wooden chairs. My friends and I sat at the sushi bar, my standard for sushi restaurants is to sit at the bar during the first time, to check out the skillz of the chefs and to see other food that comes out. We only ordered a few sushi, which were good fresh and in an extensive list of pretty common sushi rolls, with a few ones I haven't seen. I didn't want to venture too far out with sushi, we had pretty typical fare, shrimp tempura, kansas, and a soybean paper one. We did see a delicious king crab spider roll. It looked fabulous, with cucumber on the outside. The man who ate it said it was delicious as well. The chef prepared a delicious crunchy crab and seaweed salad as an appetizer. We also had some hot food off the menu. The fried pork, donkasu, was very good. Meat was not over cooked and very juicy. Baked bass appetizer was on asparagus, very good. Juicy and not bland. It seemed big enough for an entree. But the main reason for the venture was to taste their tempura ice cream. My favorite, but very rare to find in kc. Nikkos used to carry it, but haven't since the 90s. And the only restaurant I know that has it, is Thai Orchard, which was okay. This one was okay. Good if you've never had it before. But not as crunchy as I liked... fell a little apart... and ice cream was a little too solid. But as a craving fix, it was really good. And it had good sauces they put on it. Unique. Next time with no whipped cream, though. Overall, this place is a real jem. Next to the KC Kabob, which is also a really good restaurant... Seriously, Lenexa is drawing some really fabulous food of all different kinds.

Been here for both sushi and cuisine. Very good on both counts, lots of variety with the sushi and the entrees were fantastic. Easily the best Japanese restaurant around.

Japanese cuisine is absolutely my favorite, I have a soft spot for sushi. It's tough living in the Midwest and getting good, high quality seafood but Edokko is the place to go. Their sushi is fantastic, beautiful on presentation, creative, and delicious. Brings back good memories of eating sushi in Japan. Occasionally the waiters are slow to get orders out but it's all worth it once you get your sushi. I can't highly recommend the other dishes, they tend to be simply good and not much else. The tempura sauce seems a bit watery, the soba noodles don't seem cut or cooked properly, the tonkatsu just doesn't seem like tonkatsu should be. If you're up for an Americanized version of Japanese food but authentic, delicious and fresh sushi, check Edokko out. It's worth it.

Only because I found the little old lady that owns this place to be absolutely adorable do I feel horrible giving this disaster of an eatery a bad rating. Honestly, I hate to even give it one star. Let's start with the service. Um, is there anyone working the front counter? Or anywhere in the restaurant for that matter? I decided to try this place because it was being spotlighted as a local Groupon. I never stray from my all time favorite sushi joint so the discount helped me to do so. Upon arriving around 1 pm on a Friday afternoon it was starting to quiet down with the last of the lunch crowd lingering. My husband and I stood at the entrance for about 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. Finally after waiting patiently, we were escorted to a booth where we waited for another 20 minutes before anyone came by to deliver water and ask if there was anything we would like to drink or as an appetizer. All the while we watched as the table across from us grew antsy as their lunch break was quickly diminishing in time and they needed to get a move on to punch the good ole time card back in. I overhead one lady repeatedly comment on the lack of service and attention throughout their whole meal and how she would never make the same mistake to return for another meal. Finally an oblivious young man delivered their check and quickly vanished into thin air. A few moments later a young lady without a clue came by to collect the money and credit cards and quickly became overwhelmed when she saw their was 5 separate checks and methods of payment. Clearly not the brightest bulb in the bunch. After several long minutes, she returned frazzled and dispersed each persons bill of course giving each of them to the wrong person. All in all, service is a far cry from decent. It doesn't even rank worthy of a word in the dictionary. Yes, it was that bad. Ok maybe one word....non-existent. Finally, after watching the nearby tables fiasco unfold, the little old lady that owns the place came by to take our orders. She was sweet and helpful. Their menu is not great and I had to request a sushi menu to get a description of each item. The paper order form just listed the names with no description of what each item is. Yes, I know the basic stuff and then some but many places vary as to their ingredients and do change it up a but to make their items unique to them, especially their specialty rolls. I like to know what I'm about to ingest. Sorry, just part of who I am. Onward, we got our food and it did take quite some time. It wasn't that busy and it felt as though the people sitting at the sushi bar were the only ones relevant to the sushi chefs. Hello, McFly! We exist on this side of the restaurant too! The sushi was ok, not my favorite. The rice was a little dry and almost seemed as if it were a day old. The wasabi was not green and therefore remained untouched. I asked for a side of spicy mayo and it was ok. My husband had bento and ate about 2 bites and was done. And this man will eat just about anything leaving me to be the picky one. The chicken was chewy and the ginger dressing on his salad was a brown color and very bland and runny. The rice in his bento box was also dry. We didn't eat at least half of our meal and had to flag someone down to bring us our check. We finally paid and signed on the dotted line only to walk away hoping we didn't end up with a bad case of food poisoning. I don't know what all the rage is for this place or if maybe we just happened to catch it at its worst the two times we were there but I wouldn't even dare a person to venture near this place, let alone sit down and eat a meal here. Sorry guys, enter at your own risk!

I love the sushi here. It has become our go-to place because our experiences have been so good. We love the picture guide that shows you what each of the different rolls look like. They always have daily specials, so there are new rolls to try each time we go. The lady who owns the place is also REALLY friendly and approachable. We love going here. Now I just need to convince my husband to sit at the sushi bar. Oh and the crab rangoon is really tasty too.

First of all let me say if the service was half as good as the owner's attitude and positive energy this place may be 5 stars. The sushi has been wonderful. Some of the rolls are a little over priced but over all great sushi and saki. The soup tastes like water and my favorite salad with the ginger dressing is horrible. I wish those two would improve bc I love them so much. The worst part is the service it makes me so sad. Its happened both times we went there. Its slow they forget orders, sushi, drinks, tabs and both times has taken more than 45 minutes. Once one of the servers snapped at me. I love the owner but let me beg for her to please get a little more help to better serve her guests.

Edokko has some of the best sushi I've had around the KC Metro area. It was hard not to pre-judge this place as the restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall in Lenexa, however I ventured in as a model in a photo shoot for the Pitch's food critique section. I was greeted with a friendly face and great hospitality, along with a fabulous spread of food. I cannot remember all that I tried, but I left very satisfied and definitely planned on returning for my birthday...... Because on top of it all, there is a private room for karaoke and it's free to reserve.

The self-proclaimed sushi snobs on Yelp have declared this one of the top sushi spots in Kansas City. Speaking as someone who has had top-notch omakase in New York and Tokyo, I would have to agree that this is the best you can find in KC. I don't base that opinion on their selection of crazy rolls either. It's not a coincidence that the highest quality sushi restaurants in big cities don't have an exhausting array of rolls. If the fish is fresh, it's delicious without the aid of avocado or spicy mayo. But the people love them some crazy rolls, so Edokko delivers. But the freshness here is just good enough to order a proper sashimi set. The service is nice, but I got the impression much of the staff is not Japanese. This is not a problem, but I found it odd that I had to explain to the server the difference between otoro and chutoro--two types of fatty tuna. Japanese people know this. I'm happy that someone at Edokko knows what he or she is doing because the fish is legit, even if the staff knowledge is below par. The only other sushi spot in KC that serves such high quality fish is Sushi House in Leawood. But they're much more expensive, so this is worth a try if you're serious about sushi.

Went there for my birthday because I had a Groupon. We had a spider roll, green tea, green lantern rum/pineapple drink, sushi for two, two soups and tempura cheesecake. Everything was good or very good. It was more food than we should've eaten. I would've been happy eating several pieces less. The wait staff was fast and friendly. I enjoyed the photo menus although I'm not new to sushi. Our bill was $71 with tax.

I used to live in Los Angeles, and ate sushi all over LA. Edokko rates as good as anything I've had in little Tokyo or anywhere. Delicious, fresh, and generous portions of fish. However, their fried Tonkatsu cutlet or Hibachi grilled food is excellent as well. But, I especially love the look and feel of the restaurant, as its traditional Japanese, but with a hip elegant casual feel to it. Staff is fun and friendly too.

My husband and I love this place. The best sushi we have had in a long time. They do need to work on their service though. We took my in laws there because we loved it so much and received horrible service which has never happened before. I was bummed my in laws first experience was not so good, the food was great though. Very clean place and fun to go to for dinner. However we wanted sushi last Saturday for lunch and they were closed. We walked into a dark place and were confused when a guy sleeping in a booth popped up and said they were closed. We will give it a try again because the food was so good.

Went on a Groupon, was very pleased with the service and the food. Will go back again. Nice place inside, service was good.

Me and my friend went there for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered some nigri sushi and some sushi rolls. The quality of the fish is by far the best in KC. My friend ordered a bento box. It was a typical bento box in a japanese restaurant just like anywhere in the US, teriyaki, california roll, some dumplings and some fruit. Nothing to call home about. But the food did taste good and they were all beautifully presented in the box. It was the little thing that made this meal stand out. They have a separate lunch menu and we also checked out their more extensive dinner menu before we left. I think we will definitely come back to try dinner some time later. It is hard to find some good sushi in KC.

Great place to eat especially on Sundays with their special. Very unassuming just stumbled upon it. Best sushi I have had in KC.

Sushi was great- server could not get our drink orders correct. He brought a Pina Colada instead of a Sake Margarita, and a J & B and diet coke rather than the Jim Beam and diet coke that was ordered... Seems he got a little flustered with the rush... Great special on Sunday night for all you can eat sushi.... we will be back.

Nice atmosphere. They were very accommodating even though we arrived late for lunch. They've got a good lunch special so you can get two or three rolls for pretty cheap.

Before I begin- I would like to state that I'm a true Sushi lover- More importantly I've had Sushi from some of the most well known places in the U.S. (Sushi-Ann, Gari, and Nobu of Manhattan --- Oya, Oishii of Boston) not to mention in Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, and Busan. How does Edokko compare? The size of the Sushi was comparable to those names above- The fan shape of the Sake was pretty balanced, however the cut of the fish was off. The shape and color of my Ebi was very dissappointing. Perhaps it wasn't fresh, perhaps it was light above the bar (which I looked up to check) - but I never seen Ebi look like that. To make the post short and readable------ out of all the Sushi restaurants I've been (in KS/MO) Edokko is definitely my favorite. The service was excellent and the owner was very pleasant. She asked what I thought of her Chefs - I told her, of all the places I've been to locally, her's was the best....just that, the rice was too compacted, air did not breathed through, and the shape did not crumble by a gentle push from my tounge. I believe the Chef may have crushed the rice too hard in sacrifice for the shape. Anyways thanks for reading--- and please if you find other great Sushi restaurants send me a note! P.S. if you consider Sushi House in Overland Park to actually serve Sushi--- Please do not make any recommendations to me....Thanks :)

Had such a wonderful experience sitting at the sushi bar with Bui, our own personal sushi chef (at least that's how he made us feel)!! The sushi was fabulous and the warmth of the personnel was outstanding! I will be visiting Bui again soon!

Great KC sushi that rivals Jun's. Very friendly, albeit sometimes slow service. Far better at creating fresmaki than mixing their selection of specialty drinks.

ok! i dont know what everyone's talking about, i had dinner there last night because everyone seemed to be raving about it....not worth it!! we ordered the sushi rolls and nigri, the temperature of the rice was off, the seaweed was too thick..the nigri was alright,oh, and by the way, some of the edamame peas were kinda blackened ..eww...i didnt complain to the manager because my husband feels uncomfortable in these situations, besides the staff seemed really sweet and clueless.. so we just smiled and left...

Ok, I realize this owner tries real hard and all that based on my experience and all of the reviews. However, this review is written as a favor to the owner as constructive criticism and is based on my experience and not written as a bias sympathy review. My bad experience starts with being greeted at the front door after standing there for 2 minutes. Also, I should mention that this was fathers day. We got greeted by a bigger Caucasian guy that had a t-shirt and gym shorts on. They should have kept this guy locked up in the back in a highly secured area. We could tell they were crowded and that everyone was in the weeds. We prob should have walked out then and there and tried it again another time. However, we had a good feeling we knew what we were in for and thought we would have the tolerance for our food to simply last a little longer before we got served it. So then we order. Our order was simple. My dad and i ordered the sushi and sashimi for 2, my mom ordered veg. and shrimp tempura order, and then we got two seaweed salads and two miso soups. So while we waited for about 45 minutes for our food we could hear them apologize to us and other customers numerous times. We saw a table next to us have to return an entree because it was wrong. And then we saw the owner give out a couple free crab rangoons while apologizing for the lengthy delays. Then our food came out. They got my moms order wrong, giving her a roll instead of the appetizer order of tempura. The sushi LOOKED alright. However the rolls were poorly rolled and came apart and ended up being a mess. The sashimi had some different pieces on there that I would have liked to know what I was ordering before I got it. A couple pieces still had some skin on it and were simply pieces that I did not know what it was. I am not saying that that is bad or anything. I just would have liked either the waitress to tell us what all came with it or better yet a more detailed description on the menu that at least stated the names of the fish. In conclusion, I think that this place needs to work on perfection dramatically as well as being more professional. I realize that this is not a chain, so my tolerance for these type of ownerships are usually VERY REASONABLE. Staff should not be saying "sorry" to customers every 5 minutes even if there is something wrong. At that point it becomes excessive and it just makes it more known to customers just how bad things really are. The sushi sashimi combo should obv be more detailed in the menu description. Wrong orders should be fixed or discounted regardless if the customer says it is fine. Of course my mom said "it was fine," after we were witnessing how hard of a time they were having and waited 45 min to get our food. Our waters went too long without getting filled. I think delegation was misdelegated. Everyone was just doing everything and were all over the place. The sushi chefs need to learn how to roll better sushi quicker. The sushi chef should not be on the phone while rolling sushi with a whole restaurant full of people. Dear owner- you should just have every one of your staff read this review because they really let you down and you have every reason to be angry at them. They need to reallly look out for your best interest. I understand that this night was a large crowd for this place, however there were still empty tables and it was fathers day and should have been more prepared being that it wasnt simply just some random day. I will never be able to try your place again as there were just too many things that were wrong. GOOD LUCK

(4)Yanda A.
(2)Steve S.
Uni shooters - yes!!
(5)Chinatsu V.

(3)Kimberly B.
Exceeded my expectations. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The sushi was exceptional. Will definitely stop by again when I'm in the area.
(4)Dustin H.
The service is some of the best I have ever received. Food was amazing. Seriously a hidden treasure.

(2)Cordero J.
Nice little place with good service. Food has been fresh and on point every single time. It's pretty dead in there during the week dint msg that scare you off.
(4)Rei C.
(2)Jesse E.
(5)Rachelle A.
Only 3 tables had people and we had the slowest service I have ever experienced anywhere.
(1)Todoroki S.
(2)Melissa C.
Food is great. Service varies from slow to maddening! Been in four times and have waited an average of 45 min per visit from order to arrival of sushi. Make sure you have time to wait!
(3)Fike D.

(4)Ben B.
(5)Jordan C.
Great service, love the picture menus, quiet atmosphere and they offer pick-up for us busy parents!

Best sushi in Johnson county. We come here all the time. The food is always good and fresh. We have waited longer than expected at times but that just gives us more time to enjoy some warm saki.

Edokko has good food at a fair price. Great alternative to cooking on a weeknight. Very slow service though. 15 minutes means atleast 30 minutes

(3)Jonathan L.

(4)Malinda M.
(5)Anne M.

(5)Eliza C.
I really hope this sushi place makes it. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the sushi is awesome! It never seems very crowded when I go in there, so thats why I'm writing this review... Get over there, people!!
(4)Brent K.
(3)Eric D.
have only had carry-out, so I can't attest to waiter service. however, the food is very fresh tasting. bartender help is very friendly and inviting. quality is consistently good.

(3)Aaron J H.
(5)Beth K.
I come to Eudokko to eat cheap sushi. The food is ok but not even close to great. The staff had treated us like we are a hassel and it smells like raw sewage. If I am looking for cheap this is the place to go. For good sushi it's Juns all the way!
(2)Dea L.

(3)Ashley M.
(2)AhnaBelle Vee T.
(1)Dan D.
(4)Huyen L.
Decor - Very Nice. Bathroom - Cool & Clean Service - Excellent Food - Awesome. Sushi - I had was so good and it's a little bit pricey but I think it's worth it. I had the shrimp tempura, tuna & avocado & smoked salmon. Yum!
(5)Leonard V.
Great local place. Menu offers some unique items you cannot find anywhere else. Friendly, great service. The Super White Tuna was excellent, Green Devil Roll was yummy. I will definitely be back.

(5)Alyssa S.
Great rolls and have a wide variety to choose from. I've personally tried the tempura vegetable roll, avocado roll, and sweet potato rolls. They have good soups and seaweed salad as well. Highly recommend this place!
(5)Dana W.
(4)Rose L.
(3)Lucas M.
(4)Jay E.
Just dont go immediately after groupon release. Waited a month and tried again...this time was seated right away and the food was good. Best deal is the udon tempura. Bowl of noodle soup and a ton of tempura. Service was ok, place was clean.
(3)Rembrant X.
(5)Erin P.
We like it. Nice atmosphere. A little quiet but great for a date night. Best sushi in western JOCO.
(4)Diana K.
(4)John B.
Been here for both sushi and cuisine. Very good on both counts, lots of variety with the sushi and the entrees were fantastic. Easily the best Japanese restaurant around.
(5)Elizabeth G.
(4)Brooke A.

GOOD LUCK

Another great sushi location in Kansas City. Very good portion sizes and reasonable prices for good quality sushi.
