Overall great. The edamame was lukewarm and a bit over cooked, so we were worried at first. We ordered the rainbow, Eskimo, and dragon rolls with freshwater eel and tuna nigiri. The sushi was fresh, delicious, and expertly prepared. The rolls were smaller with more pieces vs. too big for one bite pieces. Try the Zen-Tini or Madame butterfly martini. We ordered the strawberry cheesecake dessert. AMAZING! Not too sweet, crispy, and good. They make it as a roll, deep fry it, and cut it into slices. This is our first time here. We will be back!

Service was phenomenal. The server (Mike) was at the table instantly, anticipating our needs before we even knew them. My boyfriend and I used a groupon and asked if we could have the yelp free sake shot, and the manager (thanks, Mike!) gladly obliged, giving us the free shot and what was left of the mango sake from the night before. We had the spicy octopus roll, the white tiger roll, the kamikaze roll, and the fried steak roll and each was unbelievably delicious. They were also huge with very generous portions, and worth the price. We went home with leftovers for later. They have coupons on groupon, living social, and Amazon local. Definitely worth it. Personally, we definitely plan on returning!

Sushi quality is good (not great), and prices are too high. My waitress was really kind. I'd be back, but only with a Groupon.

First time here. Had starburst roll - highly recommend. Had lettuce wraps - large serving, could easily make a meal of those alone. Wish were a little spicier, though. Had spice salmon roll - was ok, pretty small pieces. Wish had fresh wasabi..... Should have asked for lite soy sauce, not sure if had or not. Also had decent cucumber martini with mint in it. Miso soup was too salty. Sexy restaurant, enjoyed the chill electronic music. All in all, would come back.

I must rave about the management and customer service at this restaurant. We showed up 30 min late for our reservation as I mistook the time and to make things worse, it was my friends birthday. I immediately let the hostess know what had happened and she went to speak to a manager. The manager came over and told me that he would check the restaurant and get us in asap. He checked around for a few minutes and was able to get us in quickly and was so nice and respectful of our situation. Our waitress was very attentive without being invasive and was helpful in making suggestions. The sushi was quite good. It wasn't the best I've had in the area, but it was definitely tasty and fresh. The ambiance was decent but it was a bit warm in the restaurant and while drinking cocktails, we were sweating a bit. I didn't mention it to the manager bc I kept forgetting but I'm sure they would've been happy to accommodate if possible. I definitely recommend this place for a good date night out. I did 4 stars because of the discomfort of the warm restaurant and because I didn't think the sushi was the best I've had around town although it was fresh and tasty. But, the management and staff are attentive and caring and I definitely recommend checking this place out!

This restaurant is fine. The happy hour menu recently changed taking away drinks and rolls. The menu is now really limited. We were sitting for a good 8 minutes before anyone took our drink order. We were ready to order food but the server walked away so quickly we didn't have a chance. The sushi is mediocre at best. There are far better places to get sushi in the area. Skip!

Updating to 4 stars, because the Starburst roll we had tonight was amaaaaazing- plus we had wonderful service tonight from Ryan- he is lovely. The manager visited us too, and couldn't have been nicer. Our menus need some cleaning though. They were missing some words in places from peeled off sticky stuff.

The Drunken Fish website describes them as the "place to see and be seen in KC". Well, during prime dinner time there were about six tables in the place - technically I did see other people, and I guess they saw me, so it's true? Honestly, DF seems to be a little try-hard - I mean, it's an alright fusion place in a strip mall, not a NYC nightclub (DJ booth aside). The interior is nice and larger than it appears from the outside. There's a loft which would probably be nice for events, a good sized dining area/sushi bar and a small patio out front. The menu is fairly extensive with lots of options for traditional sushi/sashimi, standard and specialty rolls and a few cooked options. The person I was with isn't a huge fan of raw, so went with the peppered tuna steak which was described as "seared". It arrived almost totally raw which he wasn't thrilled about (for the record, he's okay with rare tuna, but this was truly raw) but said the overall flavor was good. I went with two rolls - the Superman and the Red Dragon. Presentation was very nice and the rolls were reasonably sized. Flavor was good, not great - I wouldn't say the fish was the freshest or the best, but it certainly wasn't bad either. Price points are rather high (my rolls were $16.50 and $13.50 respectively). Service was good (with a fair amount of the whole "chain upsell" thing) and our food arrived quickly, probably because they were fairly empty. Overall, my dinner was "a-ok".

I am writing this review after a second visit for dinner with a group of girlfriends. Our first experience was far below expectations, but the manager was kind enough to offer us a return visit to use our groupon a second time. That is truly a sign of good management, as I don't know that any of us would have returned after our first experience (except that the food was good). Our service on the second visit was outstanding; the server was friendly, knowledgable and there just when you needed him without being bothersome. We started with the lettuce wraps, which were delicious. The serving size would be more than enough for a meal, but it was a perfect starter for four people to share. We each ordered a different specialty roll, all recommended by our server based on our likes. The rolls were huge and were beautifully presented, not to mention delicious. We have one friend who doesn't eat fish, so he recommended the steak and cheese roll, which is a great twist for the less adventurous! Great atmosphere and it looks like they have a great happy hour too. We will definitely be back soon. Thanks again to the manager for listening to our concerns on our first visit and inviting us back to enjoy the true experience.

So I went to Kansas for business and I found this Place. At first I was quite skeptical about sushi in Kansas but I have to say I was impressed. I am from California where great sushi is everywhere . The food and service was great. The manager came up to us and was very attentive and asked us how our meal with. The sushi was both visually appealing and tasted great. The staff was on point. I would definitely recommend this place if your ever in KS.

I had an expired groupon I needed to use. Headed here with a friend for dinner with low expectations. The food was fine, but for the price it wasn't great. Our server was trying to really sell us on the trendy, fried rolls and appetizers. I honestly don't even remember what we had, it was that memorable. I can kind of understand now why it wasn't busier on a Friday night! won't be rushing back any time soon.

I've been to this location several times and the food is ok, the service can sometimes be very slow but this time we were there for lunch and they were speedy! For the area, they have a great lunch special, I don't know of any other sushi restaurant in this neck of the woods where you can get 2 rolls and a salad for under $11. However, venture a bit further north to Sushi Uni in Lenexa or Sushi Mido in Shawnee and you get an even better deal and I think the sushi is better.

My husband and I came here with a groupon and found most everything to be lacking except for the taste of the cocktails. When we came in, we were behind a group of 4 that was looking to eat dinner. They were told it would be at least a 45 minute wait and they should go walk around the strip and come back or else sit at the bar. The hostess tried to persuade them to sit outside even though it had literally just stopped raining and looked about to start up again (which it did not too long after). We got up to the hostess stand and were told it would just be 1 minute to get seated. We were indeed seated quickly and saw many open tables that could have held the group of 4, not sure what was going on with that... Our waiter was incredibly slow, making infrequent stops during the meal and most of our stuff was brought by other servers. The drinks I tried were all tasty, but 10 minutes after ordering the Wonder Woman Sushi, I was told the machine that makes the wrap for it was broken. Seems like it shouldn't have taken so long to tell us this since then we had to order all over again (and wait for him to come back to take the orders of course). The sushi is very, very pricey compared to other sushi bars in the area. It was okay tasting, but I wouldn't pay $14-15 a roll without a groupon. The drinks, though tasty, were also $9-10 and I could get better for that cost at other bars not far away... The kicker was that our waiter flat out disappeared at the end of our meal. We eventually flagged down another waiter who went to look for him. A few minutes later, the new waiter told us our regular waiter was on break and that he'd be back from break soon and could get us our check then. What?? Don't you usually give your table to another server when you go on a long break? Ridiculous! I wouldn't come back with service like this and with overpriced sushi. The one roll that seemed unique (Wonder Woman) I couldn't even try, so I'll stick with other local venues for more affordable sushi and better service.

I really wish I could give Drunken Fish at least one more star. Really, I do. Because I love sushi and that's what they do. The decor is nice and our waitress was pleasant, but that was the extent of the positives about Drunken Fish. First, where the heck are the sushi chefs? This is the first time I have ever been to a sushi restaurant where you were not able to see the sushi chefs preparing the sushi. This is worrisome to me. But what's even more worrisome is that the fish was not fresh. If I'm going to consume raw fish, it had better NOT be past its prime. Our sashimi was just gross. I had to spit it out as it was simply not fit for consumption. For the price, I would have expected more. Sadly, despite the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty when we were there, the service was incredibly slow. Never again, Drunken Fish. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had in Kansas City.

Oh, where do I begin...let's see, this location looks very trendy and it was clean. Our waiter was great too. We swung by Drunken Fish after our movie during the late happy hour and it was completely empty on a Saturday night, compared to the other location which is in P&L. After sitting there, I think we figured out why.... First of all, the music was so whack! It seemed like they were trying to create this 'club' atmosphere but, it was the busboy who had their cell phone plugged into the speaker system. He played one song at least 4 times while we were there! Talk about a buzz kill lol. The music that they were playing, smh. I've never been to an establishment like DF where they played offensive uncensored music. Like seriously....and in Leawood...I was very shocked. I asked the waiter about their tasteless choice in music and he said, he gets asked about it often. Long story short, the owner is aware, it's not a kiddy establishment during the late happy hour and, there's an approved list. What idiot approved this list!? Or at least, approve this cell phone to be connected to the speaker system? Lol. The owner should be ashamed. You don't need to play offensive music to bring a crowd....and, revisit your 'approved list'. My personal opinion is that the music did not fit the crowd or location. The food was subpar. We ordered the California, shrimp tempura and Philly cheesesteak rolls. The drinks weren't anything to write home about neither. Such a a waste of time and $30. DF has 2.5 stars now. I should have came to Yelp first because it rarely lets me down :) Maybe it's time for them to take some constructive feedback from their customers and make a few changes. As far as our wait time for food it wasn't too bad but again, it was empty.

We had an awesome Groupon for this place. Had never been there before. Absolutely loved it. Had the large lobster spring rolls, house salad, white tiger rolls, starburst rolls, along with sake shots. It was an amazing meal.

Atmosphere and environment is intimate. The crab panko was unusual but nice. The sushi was fresh and tasty. I absolutely loved the octopus roll - purple tentacles/suction cups? I've had octopus rolls at other places but this one took the cake!

To set the scene: Late on a Saturday night, 6 of us walk in. Our group was a mixture of ethnicities, not that that should matter...but it does come in to play. The place was pretty empty and we were seated quickly. Our server was great throughout the visit (though she did have one accident - she reacted extremely well, and that's what's saving a star for the place), and the food was fine. I'm neither a sushi lover nor expert, and was there for the friendship, so I'll leave commentary on the food to others. What's prompting this review is the ambiance and attitude of the staff (our server excluded.) The music after 10pm is apparently "club-like." At first, we were fine with the louder than normal volume, as the songs were fun and we were dancing in our seats while we waited for the food to arrive (which, as other Yelpers have noted, takes longer than expected to arrive.) However, as the night wore on, we noticed the bartender coming over to adjust the songs being played via his phone that was connected to the speaker system. The songs headed quickly down into "offensive and explicit" territory, several of which included "motherf***er" and the n-word. As a mixed group, ALL of us were shocked, but we tried to laugh it off and let it go. More songs of similar wording followed, and finally my husband got up and politely approached the bartender with a request to change the music, as what was being played was pretty offensive (and we are not easily offended people, not by a long shot.) The bartender shrugged and said that this is what's played after 10pm. Ahhh, no. That's not okay. (Side note that I thought of when we got back in the car - this part of town has a large Jewish population. Would the local residents be fine with DF playing anti-Semitic music after 10pm? I think not.) We'd asked our server about this, and she sided with us and asked if we'd speak to the manager. We did, and his response was similar to what you'd expect from an operating manual - not at all sincere, and very much "Well, I'm sorry you were offended by it - our bartender is one of our 5-star servers, and we use Pandora for our music", as if we should be mollified by the fact a well-rated server has offended us via a beyond-poor choice of Pandora stations. He then spoke with the bartender who also came over to apologize in the manner. We asked for his name, and he gave it as "Ryan." By this point, we were all just DONE with dealing with the place, and our server (again, she was great) helped take care of our checks and so on. We asked for the number to the corporate office, and she wrote it down for us, and added the names of herself, the manager, and the bartender...who, by the way, was NOT named Ryan. Bartender had given us a false name along with his bogus apology. Seriously, you guys, it's not hard to find music that sustains your club-like intents late at night that doesn't ALSO offend your guests. And if your guests calmly express dismay at what's being played, don't blow them off with a holier-than-thou attitude and a dismissing "This is what we play here" comment. There was another family there with a small child - pretty sure the MF'er songs weren't appreciated there, either. Sorry, Drunken Fish - between the ridiculous attitudes and offensive music, your pretty plates of rolls aren't enough to bring us back. Editing to update: Drunken Fish has reached out to me with the note that they are taking this seriously and will make sure it's addressed. I'd love to hear from other late-night diners in the coming weeks that the music is no longer an issue, and that things have been resolved. Fingers are crossed they're able to make this right. :)

I have had clients rave about this place, but I never ventured out here, until one night my client told me to hurry up and finish so she could take me to Drunken Fish and use her groupon....mmmk, that's a deal I couldn't pass up! It was a Wed. night, so, no this place wasn't busy. Got in and seated right away, our waiter was literally right there so no wait there. Introduced himself asked what we wanted to drink and he was off working away. We started w/ steak yakatori, which was good, kind of expensive but good. Rolls:: Starburst Roll :: Super delish Spicy Octopus Roll: It had good flavors but the octopus was kind of tough and too chewy for me and we also got the Sushi and Sashimi combo, that was really good! :) The portions are big compared most sushi places. The rice was perfect, the fish was fresh and delicious. Service was amazing, not only did our waiter, Remy, do an excellent job, but the manager came over more the once to make sure we were doing okay. They knew we were using a groupon for the get go and the treated us amazing! I will defiantly go back.

There is a bartender, 1 server and a manager waiting tables. Everyone is running around crazy. No hostess. Cold soup, cold food. Took 50 minutes to get our below average meal. Ordered sake which we didn't get. This place sucks. We had to beg for our ticket so we could leave.

If you like sushi then go for it. If you don't then go back to McDonalds fatty. This place has the best roll I've ever had. It goes by the name of Spider-Man. Soft shell crab tempera, and the size is perfect for one hungry adult. One flaw is the modern chic atmosphere. The feeling is that of an entity that has an ability to be pretentious. Though the staff doesn't follow the route to mount pious as the atmosphere did. They are knowledgable about the menu, and are very patient with novices to the raw fish scene. Great food, good service, and a club-ish feel. One tip to get beyond the negative is to go there on a nice day. Great seating on the patio that makes it almost unfair for the rest of the competition.

I wish I could give 3.5 stars, because that's really where this place is at. It gets a 4, because the groupon made this place affordable; but their pricing otherwise is too steep for a casual dining experience (think mini-splurge). The rolls were great though, the service was very good, and overall it was a very good experience.

Waited for 40 mins (half the restaurant was clear). Then waited 20 mins, once seated, for the waiter. Drink order...15 mins...then we finally got the drinks. Finished the diet coke in about 5 mins and never, ever received a refill despite asking two different people. Food order took 60 mins to get to the table..... Hello!!!!! And though we did not make a big deal about the service, people all around us were commenting to waiters and management about the poor quality of service. Terrible sushi, terrible service, terrible experience.

The restaurant is beautiful, I love the available upstairs seating and the private booths towards the front!! The BEST roll on the menu by far is the Starburst roll! The first time dining here a group of us sat at the bar and had drinks and a few rolls, the bartenders are very entertaining and knowledgeable about different shots! My second time I grabbed a more private table with just my boyfriend, our waiter was very friendly and helpful with picking out a roll that my man would enjoy (he's not a huge fan of sushi just yet) he recommended the fried philly roll and he loved it! Currently they have a Groupon for $25 and you get $50 worth of sushi! I bought one and used it two weeks ago.. I've already purchased a second one and am looking forward to going back!

Came here this past week with a co-worker and since it was early on a Tues eve, we had our pick of seats. We sat inside because it was close to 90 degrees out but this would definitely be a nice spot to meet friends for happy hour drinks outside. The decor was stylish and trendy, but I could have done without the blaring dance music and 'tude of the hostess at 6 PM on Tuesday. And, it is the only sushi restaurant I have ever been to that didn't have a Japanese chefs. That made me a little nervous, but the food coming out od the kitchen looked good so I figured what the heck. We both started with Mango Madras cocktails which are dangerously delicious and go down way too fast. For dinner we shared 4 rolls - Red Dragon, Spicy Eskimo, Mango, and Shrimp Tempura. Now I like pretty much anything and everything when it comes to sushi except rolls made with smoked salmon and cream cheese. But my co-worker loves the Spicy Eskimo, so I figured there were 3 others I could fall back on. I was skeptical but to my surprise, their version with jalapeno slices actually works and I didn't hate it. According to the waiter, they smoke their own salmon so perhaps that is the difference. I had one piece and left the rest to my companion since it was her favorite. My personal favorite was the Mango (crab, mango, avocado inside with tuna, salmon, spicy mayo and tempura flakes outside), but the Red Dragon was pretty tasty as well. I wasn't impressed with the Shrimp Tempura roll... it was just kind of blah. Overall, the sushi was pretty good, fresh - not the best I have ever had but good none the less. Our service was great - our waiter was attentive and the manager also came by a few times. I would give the food here 4 stars but between the music, the snotty hostess, and the ridiculous prices I had to knock it down to only 3 stars. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here but wouldn't be opposed to it if I was in the area or someone in my group really wanted to go.

I don't blame the staff necessarily, but we just waited, waited and waited more for below average food. If I didn't have a groupon already paid for I would have left early on. 5 minutes to be seated with less than 1/4 capacity. 35+ minute wait for entree, the whole staff seemed confused. It took 10 minutes from first table visit to see a waiter again to take order, that was after the 5 minutes after being seated. Again it was not busy at all. Me and my wife were both servers when we were younger so we're pretty forgiving. Their sushi just isn't anything special, nor is their soup. Especially considering all the waiting we did! This place is horribly managed. My family has eaten at the downtown location and had a similar experience.

I have been to the drunken fish in KC before and had an awesome experience. (It was also my 21st birthday, so the drinking possibly made that experience a bit more fun). Sad to say that after a couple drinks here today my experience was not the best. My boyfriend and I walked in around 3 on a Sunday to a pretty empty restaurant. It looked as though they had a crazy lunch because every table in the place was dirty... And that is not an exaggeration. When we were finally noticed by a rushed looking server he said "be with you in a minute" in which time he was trying to get a table cleaned for us. It took so long that we decided to just sit at the bar which was also littered with dirty glasses in every spot. When we get started with drinks the server seemed very skeptical of our ID's which was awkward. Never had someone ask me to remove my eyeglasses to see if I truly look like my picture. A little annoying. Sushi was all pretty good! We had a California, spicy tuna and spicy Eskimo roll which were all great. We also had the dumpling app and soft shell crab app which were tasty. The manager also said they had an extra spring roll if we would like it which was very nice... And super delicious. So the food was a hit but service was a miss for us. Maybe we would come back for carry out?

Took a friend who was willing to let me coach her through her very first sushi experience. I wanted something high quality and where a large variety would help us find something she would truly enjoy. Success! I loved absolutely every roll I had, even the ones with asparagus in them (I was feeling adventurous too!) and in the end my friend came away loving their unique cheese-steak roll. I'll consider that a win, and we'll keep working on finding a roll with fish that she'll love. Try the edamame, the large grain salt is a nice touch! You can't go wrong with any of their cocktails. Of particular note is their Mr Miyagi cocktail, a bright green fruity concoction with a definite sour kicker. I LOVED it. So refreshing. I did overheard the lady at a table next to me send hers back because it was so much more sour than she was expecting, so be warned if you are only mildly interested in a sour drink. Feeling in the mood for something sweet instead? The Madame Butterfly is like a raspberry desert in a martini glass. The decor in this place has got to be one of my favorite aspects, though I'm not sure I can legitimately rank it above food & cocktails! Dark red accents pop in the darkly lit and inviting space. Lots of clean Japanese lines and decor touches. Each table has a cozy little private party atmosphere. The loft area would be awesome for a small private party. LOVE this place. The staff and manager were very friendly and uniquely interested in seeing us enjoy ourselves to the fullest.

Came here this evening for restaurant week for after work dinner and drinks with my fiance. We were greeted and sat immediately and then waited.... and waited...and waited to be greeted. No one came over after a long period of time so we decided to go to the bar. Once there we realized that it was full and took our menus to the host stand. He asked what was wrong and we told him that we were never greeted. He apologized and took our menus and then just stared at us. So we told him we would dine elsewhere to which he replied "Okay". This was extremely disappointing from a customer service aspect. A slight I'm sorry let me get someone for you would have sufficed but it seemed that he was happy we were leaving. We have received better service at IHOP and would think a place like this would have higher standards.

Arrived at the restaurant at 6:15 on a Friday night and was told there would be a 30 minute wait. We were finally seated about an hour and fifteen minutes later. The wait staff was very unpleasant. It took forever for our food to arrive. Food was alright...nothing special. I wouldn't go back to that place if you gave me a free meal.

I took my sister and her husband out for dinner here while visiting. We went in around 4pm and the place was pretty much empty on a Monday night. Wish I knew they had OpenTable. Garrett, our server was not the best. He rarely checked in on us and then later a manager closed out our bill. By the way, the manager came off very cocky to us. We had to wait a long time for the food to come out. It was ridiculous. Never waited that long for sushi before. They did not have albacore. The yellowtail was not fresh and tasted super fishy, almost like mackerel. By the time we were leaving around 6pm there was a lot more people. I came here because of the groupon voucher $25 for $50 but it wasn't worth it. It may look fancy, but the food quality and service was not up to par.

We went in for an early dinner. The happy hour menu had everything on it that we were going to order off the menu. 4 amazing rolls, and 2 appetizers-$38. The food was very tasty and the wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely be back!

I'd like to title this review "Not worth the wait (and the wait was a long one)". Last night, I came to Drunken Fish with a party of 8 for a friends birthday. We had reservations for 7pm, and were promptly seated. After that point nothing else was prompt about our visit. After taking our drink orders and asking us if we needed more time to look over the menu (which of course we did, we had only been seated for about 5mins and it most people hadn't been to Drunken Fish before) our server disappeared for a good 45-50mins. Finally, the great magician/disappearing server, reappeared to take our orders which was a quick process since by this time all of us were beyond hungry and hoped that by quickly giving our orders, our food would quickly appear. Sadly, this was not the case. We waited.... and waited.... and waited... and waited... and waited... and ...well you get the point. Around 8:35 after not seeing our server at all, we found another employee/someone who looked like they could be a manager and mentioned how long we had been waiting. Shortly after this a multitude of servers appeared and rushed around our table delivering our food. Here is the kicker: the sushi wasn't even that good. I ordered a fried philly roll and a spider roll, both of which were bland. After a close to 2 hour wait from being seated to eating, I was not very pleased to pay 30.00 especially since the rolls were disappointing. No one every apologized, or offered us compensation for the bad service. I will not be returning. If you're looking for sushi with good service and good taste in Leawood, head a few more blocks down 119th and go to RA.

Typically I'm not a fan of power and light, but we went to Drunken Fish after going to a show, it was great that they serve food so late into the evening, and the sushi was great. Also, the service was incredible, we had a very personable and attentive waiter. Overall, I'd say it was the best sushi downtown, and I'd probably rank it above Kona in the plaza.

Visiting KC from Scottsdale....first time dining at Drunken fish. Steve our server was super polite and made fantastic recommendations. The bill was VERY reasonable so disregard any one with cheap skate comments about their bill. If your concerned about $$... Get your sushi from the grocery store people. Fantastic flavor, portions, best sushi we have had in a LONG LONG time. *spicy Eskimo is excellent

The worst place for dining. I feel sorry four this establishment. Kaiyo was closed so this is where we ended up. The menu was too extensive. If you want sushi, this isn't the place, and if you're looking for sushi, rolls shouldn't be the highlight. Oh wait, we are in Kansas though. I just suggest you avoid this place even if it were the last place on earth. Lettuce in salad cam wilted, the fish smelled bad and service was okay. The place was empty and no one seemed to be paying attention.

I an a big fan of sushi but i am very picky about where and what i get. Drunken fish surprised me. The sushi was amazing and the staff was as well. I had the superman roll and also the spicy eskimo and they were too good for words. Also the staff knows the menu really well. Our waitress was great. She knew what everything was, was was in it, and she even knew her sake. Which i also love sake a lot. All in all i give this establishment 5 stars because they don't have 5 more to give.

I hate to write this review for Drunken Fish but it must be done. I recently purchased a Groupon and since it was close to expiring, I dined alone. It was a very cold winter day in the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle. At first they wanted to seat me at the empty bar.. not even a bartender to keep me entertained. I declined and asked for a standard table. The table was at the opening to the (small) dining area. Very cramped tables but only about half full.. so lets say 6 tables being used at the time. Every person, waiter, bus person, etc skimmed by me, bumped my jacket, etc. It was also very cold inside and I opted to keep my scarf for extra warmth until the food arrived. I had a very good waiter and the food was very good. I really do like their flavor combinations but the asking price is a bit rich without a Groupon or other discount (in my opinion.) It took extra time for my order to arrive, especially given just two rolls were ordered, neither had cooked elements and most tables had their food at this point. As I casually shivered and ate my lunch I noticed that most diners were also using their Groupon and didn't read their restrictions. This was causing some heartache for the manager and slowing everything down. I was done eating and was ready for my bill..waited 15 minutes...had my Groupon ready for the manager to scan for about another 15 minutes, at which point I was ready to just leave without a word...some random person (not my waiter or manager) finally took the code and my credit card..waited another 10 minutes (which made me nervous when people have my cc for too long) and then was finally able to leave. So what are the lessons here? - No matter how good your food may be, if the service and the atmosphere isn't conducive to a good meal, it's not going to be a good meal. - If your establishment wants to extend offers for discounts, treat the patron with as much respect and good quality service as those paying full price.

My husband and I have made this our sushi place since they put in this new location. We signed up for the rewards program and eat here fairly regularly. I'm happy to say that we have never had a bad experience! They frequently offer great Groupons for $60 worth of sushi for $35- Great deal! This Groupon gets us an appetizer, a drink, and three sushi rolls which leaves us stuffed every time. The service has always been pretty good, but tonight when we went in, it was the best yet! Our server's name was Dori (oh, the irony). She took great care of us and was there when we needed her, but kept enough of a distance for my birthday dinner to still be romantic. She's very knowledgable about the food and drink menus. Great food, clean and stylish design, good service, and yummy free birthday dessert! My only complaint is that the food has taken a bit longer than we'd like on a couple of occasions.

What an amazing experience we had this past Saturday night. The food was delivered quickly, the staff was attentive. Our server Sara was knowledgeable and made a great recommendation on the Spicy Eskimo Roll. Everyone from the host to the manager ensured our visit was great. Excellent job Drunken Fish.

Great service and wait staff- also reliably fresh tuna and salmon! Try the tuna trio sashimi, the white tuna in it is the best!

Let me just say that I'm SO excited Drunken Fish has opened up closer and closer to me! With that said, DF has the "trendy" vibe to sushi. If you want the average dim lit, stale sushi house, you will be disappointed. If you want a hopping scene with happy hour, sports on tv, and sushi to boot, you will like it. The strawberry cheesecake desert roll is enough to make my taste buds smile. And do yourself a favor and check out the bathroom while you are there (I know it sounds weird, but trust me). They have probably the coolest bathroom I've ever seen in a restaurant. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. Love this place and will most definitely be back (again and again!)

Highly recommended restaurant. The food was great and the service was excellent. I enjoy the only California roll I have ever had that had fresh row. Great happy hour deals as well.

Service was very good and relatively quick. The calamari was pretty tasty for an appetizer. The Asian lettuce wraps were average. The server was attentive and courteous.

I recently dined at this location and preferred it to the downtown location. I never dined here when it was the Thai restaurant so I'm not sure if the interior is the same as it was, but I thought the different levels to the space were pretty cool. I thought the bar area was a bit small. Since it is so small, there aren't any tables in the bar area. There are garage doors though which lead to outdoor seating. I thought our server was friendly and our food came out in a reasonable time. We started with lobster spring rolls which were huge and edamame. All of us enjoyed the sushi that we ordered. I stuck with my Starburst roll and the portion size was more than plenty. The cocktail and martini options were great and every drink I tried was delicious, but the prices were pretty steep. My favorite martini was the Fountain of Youth. It was so refreshing. I'm glad Drunken Fish opened at this location because it's a nice alternate to Ra Sushi which is across the street. I found the service here to be better than Ra and the amount of sushi for the price was better as well.

If it wasn't for there good sushi, I'd never step back. Had a server named Garrett or as I like to call him "diva Garrett". Terrible server. Took our order then within next five minutes brought us our tab? Before we got food? Lot more issues than that it's just that I'm typing on an iPad and it's not worth my time. Long story short I've been there five times and had good service once. I will be back though because I'm a dirt bag skank with a couple groupons to the place.
I would love to comment about the food, unfortunately I didn't get to try it. I was in the area for a medical appointment and saw an article about this restaurant in the waiting room. Since it was only a block away I decided to give it a try. I manage an upscale restaurant in Lawrence and consider myself a foodie. Also, having lived in Japan for six year, I am always excited to try Japanese Restaurants. I walked in the door a little before 1pm on a Wednesday. Everything looked really nice. The place was not crowded, but there were a few tables and four people at the bar. I stood by the host stand and waited patiently to be sat. A young lady noticed me and began to walk out from behind the bar. I assumed she was coming to greet me, instead she just walked away. Another server glanced in my direction, then continued about his business as if I wasn't even there. The first girl came back to the bar, glanced in my direction again, then continued to ignore me. A third server also looked over at me and, just like the others, went on doing what she was doing without acknowledging me. Finally a man came over and to seat me, but by this point it was way too late. I explained that I had been ignored by the entire waitstaff as I stood there and that this was unacceptable. He made a half-hearted attempt at apologizing, but made no offer to rectify the situation. I left, went two doors over and ate my lunch at La Bodega instead. La Bodega was fantastic. Great service and great food. I will definitely go there again and I will recommend it to others. I don't plan on giving Drunken Fish another try. I would recommend they work on first impressions. They are very important in this business.

Happy hour was a great experience! My party of 4 shared several items off the HH menu. Most notably, the White Tiger and Starburst roll were delicious! The Starburst roll was wrapped in soy paper instead of the traditional seaweed which was a nice change. The Wonder Woman roll was also tasty with fresh tuna, sprouts, cucumbers and no rice for a lite bite. Service was spot on, and I enjoyed the overall ambiance.

Very disappointed. Made a reservation for lunch since it is KC Restaurant Week. We stood at the hostess table for about 5 minutes, even though the Manager and waiter saw us, but just continued to talk. We were seated with regular menus, and I asked for the Restaurant Week menu. Manager said he would get them. After waiting 7 more minutes without being waited on or getting the menus we walked out. Also floors were very sticky and glasses were stuck to the table.

Alright - So I took a fair few days before I decided to write this, just to make sure I was being completely fair. I'll start off that I have been to every Drunken Fish at least once. I was completely excited to find this one was opening, just a few short minutes from where I live. I have come to the conclusion that service as well as food, is typically hit or miss. My most recent visit will be the one I review. We had Allen as a server. Seemed like a nice enough guy - but probably had a couple too many tables then he could handle. We ordered an appetizer (the lobster/rangoon type thing) - 40 minnutes later, it had not arrived. It wasnt until I asked him about them, that he returned with them. The plate was scorching hot from sitting under the heat lap, and they were just plain mush. They had been back there for a while. All this time, we had also been looking for a drink refill/reorder. I asked a different waiter to get the manager to come by. The manager was definitely the saving grace of this place. I asked him what the ticket times were running on their appetizers. - I have been a server, I realize that the server isnt necessarily to blame for issues like this sometimes - but he dodged the question. He realized that there had been a massive issue in the speediness, and quality of our meal. Juan the manager definitely took care of us. Bringing us out a new, fresh appetizer, even buying everyone at our table of 4 a round of drinks (which I told him was not necessary, he did it anyway) - I wasnt looking for free food/drinks, I just didnt want to pay for an appetizer that was... gross. Allens service never really got much better - Juan definitely is a manager for a reason though. It is him, and only him that would bring me back to this place another time.

I have tried drunken fish 3 times. I am just not impressed. The sushi is not flavorful and always tastes like it has been sitting out for a while. I have also tried their stir fry and that was also bland. Service is also slow here. You tend to sit and wait even when the restaurant is more than half empty. I will stick with RA sushi.

No more Drunken Fish. The sushi is subpar, the wait staff is horrible, it took us to complete our sushi dinner from start to finish waiting up to 30 min between sushi rolls. Then, after getting an incorrect bill, we were suspicious that our credit card account would get charged correctly so we immediately checked the next day and bingo - they over charged !! I confronted management after discovering and they had all kinds of excuses and said a manager would be calling. No call. No more Drunken Fish.

Amazing drinks and sushi, but very slow service! Plan on being here for at least two hours because your waiter will come by every 35 minutes. It was frustrating having to flag down the waiter every time we needed something basic; I have been here a few times and this was the case. Shrimp fried rice wasn't that great; bland.

Thank goodness the food was decent! Our service upon walking in the door was awful. I made a reservation for 730 on a Saturday night; they were decently busy, but nothing super crazy. Once we checked in for our reservation, we were told it would be at least 10 minutes before we could be seated because the other group was taking too long. Luckily, we were seated pretty quickly. Once at our table though, it took quite awhile for anyone to come out with water. Our server arrived awhile later after we had already decided what we were going to order and gave us some excuse about why it took so long for him to get to our table. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and food at the same time. Our appetizers came out pretty quickly--the lobster rolls, which were very good--and our drinks came out some time after our appetizer did. Twice while eating our appetizer, two different servers came by to deliver food to us. We tried to tell them that it didn't look like what we'd ordered, but they insisted on putting it on our table, only to realize that it wasn't, in fact, our food. Then we saw them place the food that was on our table on another nearby table....(isn't that a health code violation??) Anyway, our food finally came and it was very good. One of the girls in our group though, didn't get her soup/salad until after we were done eating and no one ever asked if we wanted any additional drinks. It was SO loud where we were sitting that we were pretty much ready to leave anyway... Overall, not the best experience at the Drunken Fish. Luckily we had groupons that helped pay for our meal, otherwise I would be mad about the amount of money that was spent on dinner with the service lacking as much as it did.

The food was pretty good, but the service--ugh!! Granted, it was a busy Saturday night, but.... We had made a reservation, but our table wasn't ready. It took 20 min for a server to talk to us. Drinks came at the same time as our food. One person ordered a chicken dish, but her soup and salad came after she finished her meal. Everyone was quick to give excuses instead of just trying to make it better. I don't care if you got triple sat, or if a bartender missed his shift or if you aren't the one that can ring in an order- just tell me you'll take care of it and then do your best to fix it. Also, we were given meals for two other tables, and then watched them deliver the food to the right customer. Isn't it a health code violation to let us breathe all over someone else's meal?

I've came in two times and both times I've gotten good service but food was not great. I had the lobster rolls and they were salty and very small. Did not enjoy the lobster rolls. I also had the calamari salad and it had a weird flavor. It was not tasty at all.

I can see there have been improvements! The service was highly professional and attentive but not overly so. Restrooms and dining room were clean and well presented. Food was WAY better; fish was fresh and flavorful. Great work!

We had a Groupon to try this place out. You could practically point out the people who were there with Groupons because the rest of the people looked as though they didn't belong in the midwest at all, which on the right night could be fun. The atmosphere is very "metro" with upbeat music. Anyway, we ordered the lettuce wraps, they were good. But, even after the appetizer came I realized the waiter STILL hadn't taken our order. My tea was empty. I've already been in the place 35 min and my dinner order hasn't been taken. We were there on a Tuesday night so it was not busy at all! They finally took our order, and we waited another 30 min for the food to arrive. That's a full hour to receive your main dish. We had stir fry and it was cold in the middle, but the taste was good. It took another 20 min to get our check after asking for it. We were there for 2 hours total. The tables around us that were drinking lots of expensive cocktails seemed to get all of the attention, yeah I get it--big tabs, big tips. Maybe if I would've been drinking more than ice tea, I wouldn't have minded sitting at my table for 2 hours.

Stopped in for a quick bite before work. Since it wasn't that busy, I asked if we could be out of there in 45 min. Hostess and server told us definitely. We ordered 3 small rolls. Waited and waited...finally received the sushi by the time we told her we needed to be out of there. We ordered the rolls off of the lunch special menu (which looks like a happy hour menu w/ discounted prices), so we were thinking they were going to be normal size rolls at a lower price. Nope, they were the smallest sushi rolls I have ever seen, not even worth the price we paid. Quality was decent, service was ok. Acoustics are not good. It wasn't even busy and hubby and I could barely hear each other.

A friend and I went there for lunch today and had such a great experience! We ordered miso soup, beef & scallion appetizer, Red Dragon and White Tiger rolls and they were all excellent! My friend was running a bit behind and the manager took her soup back to keep it warm for her - what a nice gesture! Our server was good as well. We'll come back to try their happy hours.

We purchased a groupon for this restaurant and thought '25$ for 50$ worth of sushi? Surely, 50$ worth of food will be quite a lot!' We were wrong. Rolls are Drunken Fish are very tiny and extremely expensive. We ordered a spicy octopus roll ($6), 2 veggie rolls ($16), and a mango roll ($14.50), along with a veggie noodle stir fry ($10). All of the rolls looked beautiful; the veggie roll and spicy octopus rolls were presented with sprouts sticking out from the sides and the mango roll had a spicy mayo drizzle--however, the rolls tasted watered down and bland. The noodle bowl came with about 5 big mouthfuls of noodles. We both left still feeling hungry after spending 50$. The wait for the food to come out took 30-40 minutes, and the restaurant was fairly empty. There were 3 sushi chefs and many, many waiters. With the taste and wait of the food, we don't ever plan to come back. The manager had to come to scan our groupon; the price total without tax was right under 50$ so they didn't slide my card. When I asked the waiter how we could tip if the manager didn't slide our card, she said 'don't even worry about tipping me.' When a waiter who has done a great job waiting tells you not to tip, you know something is wrong...

One of the most disappointing dining experiences in Kansas City. When we sat down, no one came to our table for 10+ minutes. The service was slow throughout. The sushi was such poor quality that some pieces were uneatable. When we told the server that the fish was bad, he did nothing about it. He didn't apologize or offer to to take it off the bill. The drinks from the bar were overpriced and way too sweet. It clearly is an establishment trying to appeal to young rich Leawood singles but it was a waste of our time and money.

Waitress drops glass, doesn't offer to pick it up....(guess that's the customer's job). Table was sticky and unclean, waitress doesn't pour my beer correctly and literally wipes the excess foam off the glass with her FINGERS!!!!! EPIC FAIL!!! The food portions were kid sized and the food itself was as average as you'd get anywhere in my opinion....but what takes the cake is the Frat party atmosphere. With bartenders shouting all night, people thought there was an altercation going on every few minutes. All we wanted to do is eat out...not go to some college drinking game frat party masking itself as a restaurant. To top things off, our server didn't even confirm how we intended to split our bill between two cards and chucked the bill folders back on our table after she swiped the cards....I'd guess this place is in need of REAL managers that train properly and maintain order as opposed to this circus there running here. Should've went to PF Chang's

I must say, I was very disappointed with Drunken Fish. The food was overpriced for the servings, The rolls had more rice than fish and the seaweed wrap tasted stale. The most bland sushi rolls I have ever had. Our server was immature and temperamental. I will stick with "Sake" or "Haru's" in Olathe, and RA in Leawood. Will not be returning.

This food here is phenomenal. I've had sushi on the coast too. This stacks up against the best of them. This is my me and my wife's favorite place since it's opening. It's a very cool atmosphere to be in. The servers are generally pretty good and the wait time is always reasonable. They have a good happy hour and a fair rewards program. I really like this place.

Food was great! Had the starburst roll and the pot stickers. Service was terrible. Waited 45 minutes just to order and then it took another 20 minutes to receive our appetizer. We had to wait about 30 minutes to pay. We were there about 2 hours and spent about 15 minutes actually eating.

This was based on dining in at both the one located downtown and the one located in Leawood. The food was mediocre at best and the service on both occasions was extremely slow! I decided to give the Leawood location a second chance and went there with my husband and another couple on a weekday night so it was not busy at all, but from what I hear the weekends are dead as well. It took our server who looked like a knock-off Katy Perry 20 minutes to just come over and bring us water. I had to actually get up and grab another staff member to have them go get our waitress which then took another 10 minutes to just get her to come over so she could go get our check which was messed up and had to be redone by her manager. If you are wanting AUTHENTIC sushi this is NOT the place to go! The food was some what bland and I have never heard or been to a sushi place where they put mayo in their sushi! Gross!! The food was big in presentation but low in taste. If you are looking for a real sushi restaurant check out Sakura on 75th and Nieman. Unfortunately I bought 2 livingsocials to this place and cant get a refund! I guess xmas gifts these will be.

Very mediocre dining experience. Although the place was empty at 5pm on a Sat night, we were ushered upstairs to an empty industrial-style eating area with exposed ventilation ducts and cold air blasting on us throughout the meal. The table was rickety and very small for 4 people and over $150 worth of sushi and plates. Not sure why we were seated there, as the rest of the floor was empty. The edamame was well-cooked, not overly salty and served quickly, but very small portion. We then waited 3/4 of an hour for our appetizers - crispy lobster egg rolls and tempura-style calamari. The accompanying sauces were disappointing and tasted like they were out of a jar, in fact the waitress told us one was mayonnaise and hot sauce. From then on, things continued to snowball downhill. We waited and waited again for our main courses and sushi, and again the restaurant was mostly empty. My son's udon noodles were bland and tasteless. The sashimi plate had decent sized portions but chewy tuna. No low sodium soy sauce. Nigiri rice was good. Rolls - ordered three signature rolls - nothing spectacular. Starburst lacked flavor. eel was okay, even the spicy tuna disappointed as it was not that spicy. Green tea was from a bag and cold despite multiple requests to the server to get it heated up. Our server was friendly, but very slow. The other servers/water servers kept apologizing for being new. The repetitive, techno music wore on us after all the waiting. We won't be back. Try RA or Kaiyo instead.

Wow-- what a horrible experience all around. This is based on 3 visits each to both the downtown and Leawood locations. We love sushi, Asian fusion, and generally cool places, but have to give up on Drunken Fish. We like going out in Power and Light, and One Nineteen (aka Town Center Crossing) is our neighborhood, so we really wanted to like this place. We loved its predecessor ,Fo Thai. But the service is so bad, including unresponsive and juvenile management, the food so average, unimaginative, and overpriced, that we're done. The first three reviews here sound like they were written by employees. For sushi downtown or Leawood, Nara or RA Sushi are better. If you're set on One Nineteen, try La Bodega next door. We hope when Drunken Fish folds they'll put in another sushi or Asian fusion-- something like Budakkan would be fun.

Went to The Drunken Fish last night for the first time ever! Had high expectations since I Love Sushi and this is a new restaurant in Leewood with a lovely patio setting next to flowers and fountains. Great location and outdoor ambiance! However, the service was painfully slow, and the food was only fair at best. Took over 30 mins just to get a drink, after we ordered it. Took about 2 hours total for us to finish dinner, and there was just the 2 of us. The salad dressing on the house salad was more like saw dust, think they forgot to add the liquid component. The mizo soup was not so great either. The Teriyaki steak with rice, not what I expected and was a disappointment. The strawberry cheesecake dessert was served as a sushi roll and fried. It was less than appetizing. On the other hand, I thought the Superman Roll was awesome, but my husband thought it was bland. Was really hoping this place would Rock, because I Love Sushi! May give it one more try again, and hope for a more experienced (quicker) server, and will only order the Sushi rolls next time.

(4)Melissa F.
Skip!
(2)Karen P.

This place is great. The ambiance is casual and eclectic, with a modern feel. The food is great, and very well prepared. Wait staff looks sharp. No complaints. Highly recommended.

(2)Jojo W.
The food was great!! The staff were very professional in spite of a full house and only 2 waiters available... Would definitely go back there.
(5)Casey C.
Sushi was great, service was fast. Family friendly before 7. Try the soft shell crab appetizer for sure. Had a great meal, thank you!

(2)Jessica W.
We had an awesome Groupon for this place. Had never been there before. Absolutely loved it. Had the large lobster spring rolls, house salad, white tiger rolls, starburst rolls, along with sake shots. It was an amazing meal.
(4)Alena L.

(4)Sara J.

(4)Brandon D.
I wish I could give 3.5 stars, because that's really where this place is at. It gets a 4, because the groupon made this place affordable; but their pricing otherwise is too steep for a casual dining experience (think mini-splurge). The rolls were great though, the service was very good, and overall it was a very good experience.
(4)Lashaun G.
After being seated service was great. Are waiter checked on us for our entire stay. Very pleased with are evening. Plus was able to see the baseball game. Go Royals
(4)Katie H.
(1)Jason L.
Just order the Philly steak roll, and the cheese steak roll and you will be really happy.
(4)Kolbie J.

I love this place. Definitely get the starburst and fried philly roll. Keenan was our server and very helpful. Prompt service and management was also attentive. The lunch specials are very affordable.

Drunken fish was impressive as always! Consistently good food and service. Allen was an excellent bartender and took great care of us. Would recommend to any of our friends and family!!

Munsok and his crew have done it again. What a beautiful establishment. The food is phenomenal. Best shrimp tempura I have ever had and the martinis are great. I highly recommend if you are in Leawood, KS to stop by.

(1)Scott B.
(1)Essie P.
(1)amy k.

(2)Ben B.
(4)Sarah W.
(5)Violet T.
(1)Daniel H.

(4)Courtney B.
Poor wait staff... Took over 90 min to get our sushi... And the manages was unapologetic
(2)Jason S.
(4)Anna B.
Great service and wait staff- also reliably fresh tuna and salmon! Try the tuna trio sashimi, the white tuna in it is the best!
(5)Erin W.
(4)Chris D.
Highly recommended restaurant. The food was great and the service was excellent. I enjoy the only California roll I have ever had that had fresh row. Great happy hour deals as well.
(5)Kim V.

The décor and ambiance was really nice. I wish the host wouldn't have sat us all together in one section while the rest of the restaurant was empty. The people next to us were so loud we couldn't even enjoy conversation. We started with the lobster roll, not a fan. We also had the rainbow roll, crunchy roll, and spider man roll. The rainbow roll was my favorite. The other two were lackluster and/or so loosely rolled I couldn't use chopsticks-it just fell apart. Our server was nice. Might go back, but would rather try some other places first.

Great staff and food. Friendly and knowledgable waiter. Good was fresh and well presented.

We had a great time. High quality sushi with a great ambience. Allen was great behind the bar and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Will be coming back!

Great sushi awesome happy hour!

(2)Christie G.

Sushi was ok. Not great. Service slow. We were here to try a new place in town after buying a Groupon recently. The fried banana dessert was bigger disappointment.
(2)Minh L.
(5)Benjamin J.
If you like Sushi you probably shouldn't go here. It's like an Applebees, etc but for Japanese food.
(2)Sofie C.
Had a great time at this location. Don't like going down to Power and Light, and this place was worth driving south. The food was tasty and the service was excellent. I didn't have an empty glass all night! Jason took good care of us.

My friend and I had dinner and drinks here last night and we loved it! Great Sushi, fun environment and yummy drinks! I am so happy to have you here!!

(2)Keaton W.
(4)Michael A.
