801 Chophouse is a jewel! A gracious hostess welcomed us and though we did not have a reservation, she seated us at a lovely, quiet table by the window. We enjoyed the decorative fire pit glow across the street. Our server was quick and attentive- the best. The martinis are excellent. Great wine list. The steaks and pork chops, delicious. The green beans are served with a generous portion of bacon. We were too full to try their tempting desserts, so we all enjoyed dessert cocktails. We look forward to our next visit.

Where to begin! As part of the Mother's Day weekend we went to 801 Chophouse in Leawood. I have been to steakhouses throughout the world and 801 Chophouse is in the top five of all time. Although it makes #2 in the KC area for me, it was a perfect evening and the food, wine, atmosphere and waitstaff were tremendous. We were seated by the maître d' and we we commenting about the beautiful wine cellar at the entrance of the restaurant; he mentioned he was a master sommelier, and even better yet our waiter was also a sommelier! The wine list is vast and wonderful. The only downsize is the prices on wine seem even pricier than other high end restaurants with a similar list. The highlight aside from the food was our waiter Christo - he was knowledgeable, friendly and truly the epitome of a professional; he as integral to our dining experience - truly one of the best servers we have had in 20 years. He is an old school restaurant professional all should strive to emulate. The music was a combination of 30's - 40's music - the perfect ambiance. We had steak tartar and seared Ahi tuna appetizers. The steak tartar had capers and some light seasoning mixed in, grilled breads, pickled red onions and stone ground mustard made for a very impressive start. The chef also sent out an amuse-bouche of tuna tartar that was fantastic. Skipped salads as to focus on the meal. My wife had the 8oz filet that was so amazingly tender yet was flavorful. It was simply perfect. There was an option for a bone in flilet which really you do not see often, but it was a full 16 oz and she decided to pass. (One came out it it looked out of this world!) She also had the roasted Brussels sprouts which were frankly "meh". A seasonal special was local morel mushrooms which were tremendous! I had the Shellfish Pan Roast which included Scallops, Shrimp Crab legs and 1/2 lobster in a butter-white wine sauce, simple mouth watering. The only misstep were the shrimp were a bit overdone; everything else - perfect. We also had hash-browns which were very good, Christo ensured we knew the portions size of the sides, and ensured we ordered full or half orders accordingly. Small details such as that are so important. As we were nearing the end of dinner, Christo stated that of we were thinking of dessert there were some souffles on the menu and they would take 18 minutes if we would be thinking of dessert; we were not buy again love that attention to detail Once we were done, we sat and enjoyed after dinner drinks; the culmination of the evening came with my wife getting a tour of the Wine Cellar and a personal explanation of some of the wines in the cellar. Our anniversary is coming up next week and although we do not normally "back to back' restaurants, we will be going back to 801 Chophouse. It is a fantastic over all experience.

I don't live in KC but was meeting 2 people who do. They had not eaten here but heard it was good. Well, it was great and they will return. We dined here on a Friday night and were served by Nick and Jade. They were friendly, fun, and extremely knowledgable of the wines and the menu. My guests had several "special requests" and all of them were met with "no problem". The salads were crisp and fresh, the entries were grilled perfectly, the sides were huge and delicious, and the dessert was to die for. If this were located at home (on St. Simons Island) I would eat there twice a week.

One of the best steaks I've ever had. A couple of friends and I went here this past weekend. Each of us had nothing but good things to say about the experience. All three of our steaks were cooked exactly how we asked and the appetizer and sides were fantastic. We even tried the bone marrow, and while I don't think I'd get it again, I'm glad we tried it. The service was far above average, and the ambience was good as well. I think our server was Joni, and there wasn't a constructive complaint I could think to make regarding her service. The only downside about this place is the price, but this is one of the few steak places I've been where I haven't left thinking, I could cook a steak as good or better than that.

I don't normally order beef when I go out to eat...I got the special (mostly because it had mashed potatoes and asparagus) which was a filet. It was the BEST filet I have ever, ever tasted. I am still craving another! LOVED it!

I went here during restaurant week. I ordered the 8oz. Filet. The filet was good, but I don't think this place stacks up against other top flight steakhouses. My KC favorite is Ruth's Chris on the plaza. I thought the ambiance was too casual for a place that runs $50+ per person. I wouldn't recommend against trying 801. I would probably opt for other restaurants at this price point.

I wish we had the experience we read about on yelp. This is the most overpriced restaurant we have ever eaten at. $400 for 3 adults and 2 children.without tip . 5salads, 4 entree, 2 desserts and one $80 bottle of wine. The waitress raved about the bone-in filet mignon so we decided to try it. It would have been nice if she had mentioned that it was $65.00 No wonder the bar was empty and the restaurant ahlf full on a Friday night. While the food was tasty there is no way it was worth the tab. I strongly suggest googling the menu and checking out the prices before you go.

now 801 is a good steakhouse, in fact it beats sullivians down the street by a mile. they serve better better cuts of meet and also service is better. That new park place has some great shops

went to 801 leawood on 2/11/12. this is about as bloviated and over rated steakhouse as you will find.ridiculously poor price value. hostess tried to seat us in the back banquet room which we rejected (had a reservation).there were 8 unoccupied tables in the main dining room. ended up sitting in the bar which actually has a good atmosphere.anyway, the 801 has the required amenities of an uber expensive steakhouse;crisp tableclothes, upgraded flatware w/ the massive steak knife, large stem wine glass etc.however, the food, and most importantly the steak falls far short of their competitors(Mastros, capital grille, ruth's etc.). the wedge was wilted, not chilled, lacked smoked aged bacon-pretty average at best. the filet was tasteless and not seared correctly and lacked any distinct flavoring.the 14oz ribeye was really strange-it was thin cut(about 1/4 inch),not seared properly and lacking any of the flavor and texture you would expect. the sides were typical steakhouse variety- we had bousin mashed which were ok, sauteed mushrooms with melted cheese and potatoe (odd and overly rich), and creamed spinach which turned out to be spinach with a breadcrumb topping and a bit of melted cheese-meh. ofcourse,as with all uber steakhouses the wine list is ridiculously over-priced(3-4 x mark up). corkage is 25.00. you will spend about about 60-65.00 per person plus tax,tip and wine. many better choices for a quality steak.

Everything was delicious! My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at 801 Chophouse. As others mentioned, our table was decorated with confetti, a rose to take home, and a menu with Happy Anniversary printed across the top. The staff offered top-notch customer service from the moment we entered the restaurant until the moment we left. I was impressed by our waitresses knowledge of the menu. After reading some mediocre reviews, I was hesitant to dine at 801 Chophouse, but if 801 Chophouse isn't some of the best food you've ever eaten, then I want to know where you're eating! 801 Chophouse is probably outside of my normal dining budget. However, 801 is a wonderful fine-dining experience for a special occasion. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and while pricey, 801 is worth every penny. I will return in the future, and recommend 801 Chophouse to anyone looking for a special occasion dining experience. FYI, We had a $40 Groupon for $80 worth of food... So check for one, it may help you on the bill. We probably spent about $225 including tax, tip, and cost of Groupon. We had: Appetizers: Lobster Corn Chowder (wish I was small enough to swim in the bowl, it was to die for!) Calamari Entrees: (plan on spending $40+ per steak even more for some of the fancier cuts) 12oz KC Strip with the Oscar topping (shrimp (crab or lobster also an option) with a cream sauce) (I loved every bite!) 12oz Filet Mignon with mushrooms Sides: note that these are purchased a la carte (not included with the entree) and served family style for the table to share Boursin (cheese) mashed potatoes Gnocchi Asparagus Drinks: 3 cocktails (Szarac, Mint Julep, I don't recall the third) & a glass of Moscato Dessert: (These were huge, and could easily be shared) Chocolate cake Carrot cake I thought the portion sizes we normal/large. I brought home leftovers.

We have eaten here twice, and both times have been fabulous. I have had the "bone-in filet" on both occasions. Most flavorful steak I've had anywhere aside from "CraftSteak" in Vegas. The sides are all excellent as well. One nice thing about the sides is that you can get 1/2 orders and share them. This way, if you're torn between two sides, get them both. Great service as well. Not standing over you all night, but attentive. It is expensive, but it's worth it once or twice a year for the quality of food you receive.

Probably the best chophouse not located in downtown Kansas City. It is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. The service was excellent with a very knowledgeable staff. Our group had the cowboy ribeye, lamb, filet mignon and king crablegs. All were fantastic. For appetizers we had the foie gras, mussels in white wine and oyster sampler. The group agreed the mussels were a bit dry and sent them back. The waiter did not charge us for those. Hard to believe you can find fresh oysters in Kansas, but they were excellent. For sides we had the scalloped potatoes, brussel sprouts and wild mushrooms. Desserts and cappuccino followed. Looks like I have a new favorite restaurant.

really really good food. best steakhouse i've been to in kansas city so far...delicious oyster selection, garlic mashed potatoes are phenomenal, brussel sprouts are perfect and their meat/fish is always cooked the way you want it. Their service is top notch without being too in your face and "fake". Love this place.

We've dinned at 801 Chop House several times and were happy to be seated quickly without a reservation, shown to our table in back of the main dinning. I've always enjoyed the 801 Chop House food and service on our previous visits. The food was great, but for some reason the service was lacking. I'm not sure what was going on as it was not busy in the dinning room. My dinning companions noted that our server was over whelmed and unable to provide the service we have come to expect from this establishment. I'm really not sure what was going on or how many tables she had, but feel she was stretch beyond her abilities. In managements defense you could tell he was aware of the issues and actively participated with service to compensate for her inabilities to provide service. She seems very shaky and stressed which made our dinning experience uncomfortable. Toward the end of our evening she was not to be found and did not check back on us. We did not see her in the last fifteen minutes we were seated at our table. Upon our leaving she appeared to say goodbye, however she smelled of cigarette smoke. As a person trying to quit smoking this was very insulting to me. As a at this point it seemed obvious that she was missing because she was smoking. I don't know if she was having a bad night or if she is just not up to the standards that one expects from 801 Chop House. I put myself through college waiting tables and think management needs to be aware of the staff's abilities or in this case inabilities. We've had wonderful dinning experience's in the past and will return to this location, but will request to NOT have this server.

Calling all classy carnivores. This upscale steakhouse will not disappoint. Got the single cut prime rib. The most tantalizing I've ever tasted. I told Jade my waitress I should have paid more for the cut. It was mouth watering. I wish I had more leftovers.

One of my favorite steak restaurants. My go-to special spot for anniversary dinners. Love the green beans! The calamari is amazing too - not rings - tenders! So good. Really everything is delicious and my hubby and I split each item including the steak and they are very nice about it - no upcharge, split it in the kitchen.

My friend and I came here around 7:30pm on a Friday. We originally made reservations for four people but two canceled so it was just the two of us. There weren't a lot of people here but maybe because not a lot of people wanted to spend $40+ on steak or for some other reason. I looked at their menu online before I came here so I had an idea of what to order. Luckily, the menu was the same in the restaurant. My friend and I usually go all out when it came to eating at restaurants. Our waitress was really nice and helpful. She showed us a tray of all the different cuts of meat and I thought she was pretty knowledgeable. The sides were also family-style so usually one item from the potatoes and one item from the vegetables section of the menu would be enough to share for two. We were able to do half of a side so we could get more sides to try. We ordered "Down Home" Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp ($18) and Steak Tartare ($18) for the appetizers, Gnocchi ($12), Macaroni and Cheese ($10), Roasted Brussels Sprouts ($10), and Mushroom Pan Roast ($11) for the sides. I chose the 24 oz. Bone-In Delmonico with Cajun seasoning ($62) and Cognac Butter - Portabella Mushroom Ragout ($4) for the preparation. My friend ordered the Kansas City Strip and Bearnaise ($4) for the preparation. The bread and butter was nothing special in my opinion. The "Down Home" Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp was good and the sauce complemented it great. The mashed potatoes in the middle also was great with everything. The Steak Tartare was good with everything on the plate. The Gnocchi was soft and delicious, the Macaroni and Cheese was creamy, the Roasted Brussels Sprouts were not burnt, and the Mushroom Pan Roast was great. The Mushroom Pan Roast was one of the popular items and it showed in its flavor in my opinion. My 24 oz. Bone-In Delmonico steak with Cajun seasoning, cognac butter - portabella mushroom ragout was very tasty. It had a lot of flavor by itself and I was glad I chose it. We couldn't finish everything since it was a lot of food, but I would say good leftover food. On the dessert menu, we decided on Key Lime Pie ($12) and Grand Marnier Souffle ($12). The Grand Marnier Souffle took about 35 minutes to prepare. The Key Lime Pie was good with the pina colata sorbet and not too sweet. The Grand Marnier Souffle came with vanilla, chocolate, and raspberry sauces to pour into the souffle. The sauces were extremely sweet (especially the chocolate and raspberry) and the vanilla didn't taste like vanilla to me. I preferred the Key Lime Pie over the Grand Marnier Souffle. 801 Chophouse was a great place for a steak dinner and the food was worth the price in my opinion. Sure, it would be pricey for a lot of people but you have to treat yourself out sometimes.

Overpriced. The restaurant was hot. Understaffed. Oh and did I mention overpriced? This is for people that have money to blow (expense accounts, etc) and are interested in status. But my wife cooks better than what we ate here for a third of the price. The place wasn't crowded on a Friday night. Why? Because of everything I mentioned above. There are countless better restaurant experiences in KC. Don't waste your time or money.

Had a work dinner here last night. Private room in the back, watched the Royals get slaughtered in Game 1 of the World Series, and talked some business with a new customer. Overall, top notch experience from the food to the service. First, there was a mixup on our part, and someone from our company screwed up, and made the reservation for 801 Fish. So Chophouse scrambled and set up a room for us, and a set menu for our customers to choose from. That's pretty great service. The food was impeccable. I had chicken, most others had the filet, but everyone loved their dish. And they bright our grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes family style for is all to share. Well done Chophouse...would definitely bring customers back again.

I'm just leaving and I'm so full I feel like I need to be wheeled out! I had the 8oz filet and it was perfect. It's so hard these days to get a steak cooked exactly how you ask for it and that is exactly what I got! We started out with the pancetta scallops that were soo good. Husband got the strip steak that was equally as good and cooked to perfection. We ordered pan roasted mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes as sides, mushrooms were amazing and potatoes were ok. We barely ate them because we were so full. They decorated table for our anniversary and threw in a free dessert. Our waiter was attentive and great as well. Great restaurant for special occasions.

Best steak in Kansas City. Best mushrooms in Kansas City. Best service in Kansas City. We always enjoy going and always leave full and with smiles on our faces. Potato gnocchi is another excellent side they offer. House made ice creams are great too

After being in Boston for a week, I needed to have some steak in my life. The steak itself was pretty good. The waitress was nice at first, but brought me a glass of wine different than what I ordered and charged us more than the menu said for our items. I don't have a problem for paying for what I order, but I do have a problem for paying more for something than I agreed to. The waitress seemed incredibly put off by this but did change it back. This place was good for a come in once but with the services and food and the options in Kansas City for a great steak, I really doubt I'll be back.

This had to be be one of the top 3 steaks I have ever eaten. Absolutely fabulous place, the atmosphere, the service and of course the food was amazing. I had a bone in fillet and the lobster bite appetizer, with a wine that was recommended that went perfect. The service was superb, make sure you ask for Brooke. She took the time to make sure we ordered right and the food came out perfect. Oh and by the way when I say one of the top 3 steaks ever. I'm from Chicago and I know great steak. If you aren't bashful with your credit card this place is worth every penny.

Perfect service, cozy atmosphere, absolutely delicious top shelf food and beverage, make this one of Kansas City's finest restaurants. We could not find fault with any of it. Cooked perfectly and served hot. We will revisit soon to see if they can repeat our experience! Highly recommended if you are looking for a fine dining experience.

This review is for our New Year's Eve meal on 12/31/2014. This review is a bit late because I've been busy, and because I felt it somewhat pointless because it was going to be nearly carbon copy of prior visits, but I've been feeling a little guilty at neglecting one point. 801 Chophouse is consistently great. Great food, great atmosphere, and great staff. Once again, bone-in ribeyes were exceptionally good. The crabcake was perfect. The garlic potatoes gnocci and green beans were excellent. It was everything we had anticipated and lived up to our expectations. We specifically requested that Jade be our server if she was working that night, and she was. We were pleased to see her smile at our table side when we were seated. And that's why I've felt a bit guilty in delaying the review. She, as always, was great. She was helpful, friendly, and engaging. She knows exactly when to be there to help and when to disappear and let you enjoy your meal. There was nothing that she could have improved upon. We will definitely be returning, and look forward to it.

Ate here Wednesday night with a friend. We usually go to RA or Gordon Biersch, but she really wanted steak so we gave this a whirl. It is definitely fine dining at it's best. Linen tablecloths and napkins, lots of men in suits eating here made me feel like this was a men's only club but there were a few couples here as well. I had the seafood and risotto croquettes. There were three very small balls for $12, but they were tasty. We also had the calamari which was phenomenal. It's the big think cuts with a perfectly seasoned crust, perfectly fried. I also had a glass of Willamette Pinot Noir, excellent. $14/glass. I also ordered Lobster mac n cheese, half size for $9, totally delish. Our waiter was very attentive and brought the meat sampler plate and explained all the cuts of meat available. My friend had a prime rib, some ungodly huge slab of meat. She loved it, said it was perfect. Vegans should not enter this restaurant as the meat culture borders repulsive. I loved the wall art of the renditions of cattle that gracefully showed the cuts of meat in stages and the old photos of prize bulls and cows. All in all, it was very good, and somewhat expensive. Aside from price, I found no faults at all. I'd come again for a special occasion or if my date is buying. Right now its a little rich for my blood.

Dined here with a friend since they were on the list for "Restaurant Week." As it turns out, they serve a prix fixe menu EVERY SUNDAY so we were thrilled to learn that. 801 Chophouse is one of the best fine dining experiences to be had in Kansas City. The food is consistently delicious, the service is great and they have an extensive wine list. This restaurant is not for a faint wallet, so be prepared to pay premium prices for your dining experience (if you decide to order off the regular menu)! :)

Ok, so 801 Chophouse was phenomenal, hence the timely review! Yay!!! My boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner Sunday evening to celebrate our 2 year anniversary (and there was a awesome Groupon available!) Since it was early Sunday evening that we had our reservations for dinner (6:30pm) the restaurant was fairly empty and we were seated quickly. Our server, Paul, was phenomenal and took very good care of us throughout the night. He made sure to explain the meat cuts, what our options were, and really engaged. We decided on drinks (Stone IPA for him and Park Place Martini for me) then decided to investigate the menu extensively - with comments/suggestions from our server. Finally after much debate and negotiation, we settled on the KC strip for him and the Shellfish Pan Roast for me with Lobster Mac and Cheese and Fried Zucchini to share. Holy crap the food was amazing! His steak came out perfectly cooked and was soo yummy for him that I didn't even get a taste! I enjoyed myself immensely with my shellfish - crab legs, shrimp, lobster and the most amazing scallops. Once we finished our meal (O.M.G.) we deiced on dessert. Of course, my boyfriend ordered the New York Cheesecake - it's his standard dessert choice. I had to order the Grand Mariner Souffle. Since the souffle's are made to order there was going to be a 20 minute wait for desserts, so Paul gave us coffee the house. I guess when they show the meat tray they usually advise guests to order to souffle early but as we choose to forgo the display he forgot to mention it. Granted, once we got our desserts we completely forgot how long it took - they were amazing. In fact, I dreamed about that Souffle that night after dinner. Overall, this was such an amazing experience that I'd be willing to come back just for the dessert...or the sides...or dinner. I also recommend asking if Paul is working and if you can be seated in his section!

Yes, definitely yummy. I had the oyster sampler (8 piece), Delmonico (bone in ribeye) with au poivre with cognac cream, grilled asparagus, and the grand Marnier souffle. Everything except the oysters was perfect. Anywhere that serves a souffle is going to get a great rating from me unless they botch it, which they didn't. The oysters were great, aside from the excessive shells in one - whoever opened it cracked the shell in a segment so all those shell pieces covered the oyster meat. The rest had your occasional shell which is something that should rarely happen in a quality restaurant. I brought this up with my waiter who basically agreed that shells end up in there period and explained this was a common finding. I have had enough oysters to know that it is not as common as it was, especially the large shards that were in the one that I had. Too bad the waiter choose to not act on my complaint rather than address it. Minus 1 star. As for the rest, I'm glad I got the bone in ribeye. From now on, if there's a bone in it, I'm getting it. It was nicely crusted with pepper and the cognac cream was a great accompaniment. I could have had that sauce all day. The accompanying asparagus wasn't your usual grilled asparagus but next time, I would try the steamed with hollandaise instead. Now, the finale. The grand mariner soufflé was lovely. I particularly liked the triple sauce options on the side. Since I wasn't a fan of the vanilla bean, having the chocolate and raspberry options was welcome. Not that the vanilla bean was bad, I just prefer the other 2 flavor. Plus, you can mix them to make a nice raspberry chocolate! Overall, I would certainly return but won't be ordering the oysters unless I mention to them to be more meticulous with their shucking.

Wife and I visited recently for an anniversary dinner. The room is very nice. We were seated in a booth with other parties all around us, but it seemed very private due to high dividers between the booths. The service was absolutely flawless all night. I didn't catch her name, but she did a great job. She sensed we weren't in a rush and the place wasn't packed, and she paced everything perfectly. We started with a few cocktails. Wife had a "featured" cocktail, a riff on a Manhattan, and then some winter drink that had peppermint schnapps and a few other things. She loved both of them. We settled on a "lobster bites" appetizer special, which was an 8oz tail, cut up and fried in a light breading and served with a few sauces. It was very good, which made me happy when I got the bill and saw that it was $40. Makes sense, it was a good amount of lobster, and this was not a penny-pinching type of meal. But I was still surprised. The ceasar salads were good, we were both amused when the server made sure we wanted the anchovies on the salad. It is unusual, but a nice touch. Main courses were filet medallions and ribeye, with sides of glazed carrots and lobster mac and cheese to share. The steaks were cooked perfectly. The beef was of very high quality (the server point out they serve only prime beef). The lobster mac and cheese and carrots were decent if not outstanding. Dessert was creme brulee, which again was very good but did not stand out from others we've had at fine steakhouses. $350 with tip for the two of us -- not something we are going to do very often, but it was worth it.

My friend and I went here on a weeknight and the GREATEST waitress. I wish I had her name :( She had long brown hair, and boy did she know her stuff! After explaining everything she made the best recommendations. My friend and I shared a Delmonico (spelling?) steak. They split it up for you in the back and can cook them at different heats. So amazing. The sides are HUGE. The onion rings and scalloped potatoes are the way to go!!

Amazing from start to finish... a true case of "you get what you pay for". The service was above and beyond. Our group of 8 had a private side room to ourselves for the evening. Our dedicated waiter was friendly, informative, inquisitive (he asked a lot of questions to help us decide what we might like best) and very attentive. I ordered the Tango cocktail and marveled that it was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. The homemade lemongrass simple syrup really made it unique and intriguing. My filet was a perfect medium. Juicy, well seasoned, tasty. I was seriously over the moon with each bite. I chose to cognac butter with mushroom accompaniment. Very nice! The boursin mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. For dessert I found room for a few bites of strawberry rhubarb tart, once again I found it to be well worth the splurge of money and calories!! 5 stars. I'd give 6 if I could. Probably a once in a decade experience for me considering my budget, but well worth it for the experience and the high end details throughout the evening.

Excellent service and great steaks. Long time KC family all scattered had dinner in the private wine cellar at 801 Chophouse and had a blast! Steak tartar and filet medallions were maybe the best I ever had. They accidentally brought us an order of bone marrow, but allowed us to sample something new. Some in our family had never had marrow before.(with mixed results! But it was prepared exactly right!) Also, the wedge salads were very inconsistent. My fiancees was a very small piece, my sister's was huge. My brother was not as impressed with his filet, so be warned that you might have mixed results.

Great food, excellent atmosphere and service. What else can you say. We came up to KC for a weekend get away and made sure we hit up some great restaurants and 801 filled the bill. Will be back as soon as I can get there.

We had a party of six New Years Eve and mostly had a good time but a few things made it a little unpleasant. First the food was awesome except the bone in rib eyes which we had two of them and both were a little tough but the bone in filets were exceptional. The sides were great and we really enjoyed the appetizers. What made me rate a three was it took three hours to complete the meal with long stretches of seeing no one to fill are water or drinks. We only had one refill or one more round of drinks because we never got them until the end so they did not make us pay for them but still poor service and it took another half hour to ask about dessert from another employee and after we got the dessert another half hour passed before we got the check and were able to leave. Again the food was good but for $700 I will go to the Captial Grille or Pierponts were they seem to make the experience much more pleasing.

A great choice for fine steaks in Leawood! 801 Chop House is what Hereford House and Golden Ox should be. Old school atmosphere, great steaks and a variety of sides that are all well done. $48 for a Delmonico sliced up and served Peter Luger's style... This is one of the top steaks in KC! Onion Rings, Garlic Whipped Potatoes, Asparagus and the other sides that you would expect from a fine steak house. The wine selection and bar offerings are top notch. I didn't have room for dessert but the carrot cake looked outstanding... 801 Chop House has overtaken J Gilberts as my new go-to spot for business dining.

Went in the other evening for a night cap. Bartender was outstanding. He let me try a few different sweet vermouths to determine which one I liked the most. He then made two great Manhattan's for me. The only thing missing were the luxardo or amarena cherries. Bartender recommended the Angle's Envy. Outstanding Bourbon.

Service was mediocre at best, didnt have a good experience. food was average as far as nice steakhouses go. I eat at nice steakhouses often and this one ranks at the bottom.

A Pre-Fathers Day dinner on Saturday night at 801 was so very good. Alex took extra special care of us. She knew the menu very well, and guided us thru what she felt was good, and what was not AS good. She allowed us to have small plate's appetizers. Because we all wanted just a taste. Whether she really did do this on her own, or it is done before, either was, it was spectacular. The scallops were the best, but the crab cakes and shrimp were not far behind. We had KC Strip, filet medallions, and prime rib. Not sure which was one was the best, way too hard to tell. Each one was done to perfection, and the leftovers were equally as good. I liked the idea of family style sides. We should have taken Alex up on small samples of each, instead of just the few we had. Maybe on our next visit. Last but certainly not least, the dessert was out of this world. My personal wish is that you come up with a sampler dessert tray. In this way, it would have given us a sample of all, instead of just one or two. We send our praises to Alex. Too many times it's so easy to berate a restaurant or a server when things go awry. She helped make our evening memorable.

This old-school steakhouse serves up an absolutely phenomenal evening all the way around. From the moment we walked in -- loved all the dark woods and vintage photographs of the stockyards & Grand Champion cattle & other cowtown history -- we adored it. It was quite busy due to Restaurant Week, but we were seated quickly & our server appeared with some nice suggestions from the wine list. Soup and salad, pretty good; the sourdough bread that accompanied it was ridiculously fresh & quite tasty. My filet, perfectly medium-rare, went well beyond "very good" and landed squarely in "I think this might be the best steak I've ever had" territory. Seriously, it was so excellent that after one taste, the Guy (a former cowboy who knows a thing or two about steak) was asking our server where they sourced their beef. The cheesecake for dessert was rich & decadent, but sadly I couldn't do it justice... the Guy was happy to finish it for me, though :-) Throughout, service was perfectly on-point. We enjoyed every minute of the experience & have put 801 Chophouse on the top of our "special occasion" list. Can't wait to return!

The food was great! Excellent service! This is a family dinner anyone would enjoy! The prices are on the high end, but you do get what you pay for!

Went w/ the Hubby for Date Night and we were very impressed by the food! In addition, our waiter Chico was very nice!! I was annoyed at first because it took him a while to come to the table, but once he finally noticed we were sitting there, things got much better. I got the filet and my hubby got the KC Strip. Although they undercooked his Strip, I think overall we were still happy with the steak. We also tried the oyster rockefella and the shrimp, which were both delish! There was a Groupon - $55 for $100... definitely get it because prices were a little steep.

Incredible and romantic! I was blown away by my recent experience at 801 Chophouse. We took advantage of the recent Groupon (worth it!) and finally planned our first trip to 801. The inside of the place is very pretty and classy. We had a booth that was nice and private (no conversations from other tables spilling over or anything like that). Our waiter was informative and even a bit funny. We started with the Lobster Corn Chowder and the Bone Marrow. They were both incredible. I then had the amazing Chilean Sea Bass and my husband had the 16oz Ribeye. I had the 801 Martini and the 801 Manhattan. The Manhattan was very, very tasty. The best part was our dessert though. We shared a rich Molten Chocolate Cake topped with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was so delicous that my husband wants to go back soon just to get more desserts. I highly recommend 801 Chophouse for an upscale date night.

Had a business dinner with some colleagues and enjoyed the environment. Our server was very nice and delivered an excellent "Meat Presentation". Wine list was short but reasonable in choice.

I don't believe I've ever given an 5 star review before but this place deserves it. Certainly beyond my customary dining experience in cost but when someone else is treating, why not? The entire experience was well worth the splurge. From the moment we walked in, we felt warmly welcomed. The setting is lovely; very classic old world Kansas City cow-town elegance without being stuffy or pretentious. The waitress was delightful; knowledgeable, professional, friendly and set just the right tone. We started with the calamari which was the best I have ever had. The portions were large, beautifully presented and utterly delicious. I ordered the steak with lobster and my friend ordered the prime rib which were both perfect; absolutely top notch. We also ordered the mushroom side dish and the asparagus which were both delicious. A truly premiere dining experience!

Amazing! This place is awesome! My husband and I had dinner reservations for 7:15pm, and we got to Park Place about an hour and a half early, we went to a couple places for drinks during HH and then came to 801 about half an hour early and just told them, we could chill at the bar until our reserved time. The host said, actually your table is ready, come on back...our table was decorated w/ confetti and a rose (as mentioned in another post) and had a hand written note thanking us for choosing them and wishing us a Happy Anniversary. Waitress Brooke:::She's awesome! Knowledgeable and very personable. Very attentive, she recommended things that she likes and brought us out a tray of the meats they had so we could see it before it was cooked! Food: Excellence! (I liked it better than Mortons, but don't tell my husband that) We had the pancetta wrapped scallops to start with, and they were cooked to perfection! Seriously it melted in my mouth, I went to pick up the scallop w/ my fork expecting a little give but it pierced through it like a hot knife through butter. (not even kidding, you should try it) The bread they serve, is crusty on the outside and hot and warm and soft on the inside. My husband had the corn and lobster chowder, it was good, creamy with a little bit of spice. I had the prime rib for dinner, the bone-in one, so I guess it's a double...OMG it was HUGE. the absolute best prime rib I've ever had hands down! I probably didn't even have to chew it if I didn't want to...it was that tender. I recommend it! Hubby had the Delmonico, which is their bone-in ribeye, it was good but I liked my prime rib better :) Lobster mash potatos were a little too flavorful for me but it was good and they do not skimp on lobster. the chocolate cake was also soo good, the buttercream is not like anything I've ever had! It's on a completely different level. I'll be talking about this place for days, it's expensive, but totally worth it! GO!

Another restaurant week success story. Met up with a girlfriend for drinks at the bar beforehand. She tried a whiskey cocktail of some sort and really liked it though man, be warned it was booooooozy. I was struck by their awesome martini list. Now typically I'm a sweet martini kind of girl (give the The Jacobson's chocolate martini any. day. of. the. week!) but I decided I should try a typical, classic martini so I did. Bombay Sapphire gin, Ketel One vodka, blue cheese stuffed olives. Verdict: yep, still a sweeter martini lady but the drink was well balanced and the blue cheese olives were the best part. Both of our drinks were something like $11-12 so just keep that in mind. As for dinner, we chowed down on the RW menu, three courses. I had the ceasar salad (no croutons, thanks GF) which came with this awesome parmesan crisp. Loved it. The salad was appropriately dressed, not too heavy. To follow I had the salmon with carrot and potato hash, asparagus, and a caper beurre blanc. Holy wow. Give me that sauce by the spoonful! It was perfection on a plate. The asparagus was well cooked and tender (even for the being the thick woody stemmed kind, so KUDOS to them for that!), the carrot and potato hash had this awesome sweetness that worked so well with the starch. The salmon was cooked wonderfully and had this amazing texture on the outside, like it was perfectly seared in some olive oil in a pan. I couldn't get enough, and at 8 ounces, it was a delightful portion. For dessert, we both went with the creme brulee, a stellar choice. Light, not overly sweet, perfect breakable top on the custard. Admittedly, it was a looser custard than I am accustomed to but it was just as delicious. Well done, 801. I'll be back for a special occasion.

Stopped in here on a Friday night after the Bristol was full. I was very pleased. God knows it was better than the Bristol could ever hope to be. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is rich, well, except for the time a busboy passed right by our table with a cart loaded up with bus tubs full of dishes - might want to have them take a more circuitous route though it was kind of early (5:30-ish) and the place was pretty empty. Anyway, after I dropped dead from the prices (I mean SERIOUSLY) and was revived and got over it, I ordered a Ginger Cosmopolitan that was DELICIOUS - highly recommend. We did not get an appetizer. I ordered the filet medallions with lobster topping and burgundy tarragon sauce. It was cooked a perfect medium, as I asked. We ordered roasted brussels sprouts which were divine. My husband got a 12 oz KC Strip and said it was really good and his was cooked perfectly as well. The server was attentive and pleasant, but not bothersome. I enjoyed it and would recommend if you have a couple hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket.

If you would've asked me the best meal of my life a few weeks ago, I wouldv'e told you about a quaint little restaurant in Vail, CO. If you ask me that question now, I would tell you hands down that it is the Delmonico steak I had at 801 Chophouse. Before I get into this glorious meal, I have to begin with the outstanding service. If you go to the Leawood location, you should really ask for Charles. An extensive menu can be intimidating, especially if you don't want to spend a lot of money venturing out of your food comfort zone for something you may or may not like. This is why Charles was so great! Charles asked my husband and I several questions to get an understanding for our preferences before making a recommendation. He listened, and we actually felt educated about our meal and our choices. I was impressed with his knowledge and I'll definitely ask for him next time I go back. Now onto the important part-- the food.We started with the 801 Chophouse salad-- amazing! It's a stunner salad and set the tone for the rest of the meal. Ribeye is my favorite cut of meat and the Delmonico just melted in my mouth. It was so huge that my husband and I shared. It's a seriously amazing cut if you prefer ribeyes. We also shared the aged cheddar hashbrowns-- words cannot describe how wonderful these hashbrowns are. If you're looking for a flavor potato to complement your steak, this is it. We also shared the lobster mac. It was good, but the steak and hashbrowns really stole the show. We followed our meal with a decadent creme brulee, and I was completely glowing. The food is absolutely amazing, the service is exceptional, and we paired this meal with a Groupon and I believe it's the best Groupon we've ever purchased. Needless to say, we've already bought our second Groupon and I cannot wait for another trip back to 801 Chophouse. If you want the best meal of your life, you should go, too.

Tonight's meal was incredible. It was expensive, we had a groupon and it was a special occasion, but it was worth every penny. Our waiter Nick was great. He made the night even better. Highly recommended for the special night out!

This is a great place, wonderful food, great wine and just so very pleasant. We arrived and were greeted immediately. Our server was fabulous and very knowledgable about everything... the food, wine selections and desserts. He helped us chose a wine and made suggestions on what to pair our entree choices with. The filet of beef was done to perfection, it was so tender it seemed to melt in your mouth. The lobster tail, which was a bit pricey was not the best, but it was ok. I would skip it next time. The lamb chops were divine. We had the lobster mashed potatoes even though they were not on the menu and totally enjoyed them. The veggies were broccoli and brussel sprouts (half order of each) The meal was wonderful... Our server seemed to lose interest in us as we progressed into the meal. After such are great start, wonderful food and wine, it was very disturbing to watch him blatantly ignore us. I guess he must have figured out that his tip was being reduced as we sat watching him gush all over other tables while he would look over at us and walk the other way. He redeemed himself by bringing us a "comp" dessert.

What an absolutely amazing place. From the minute you walk in you feel transported to an elegant restaurant of the past. The staff are dressed in handsome uniforms evocative of the Savoy in its glory days, food is carted out to you on these silent elegant wooden carts, and everything on the menu is the absolute best of the best. Our server (I think his name is Seth) was top notch from start to finish. He started us out with some great aperitifs. They have an excellent scotch menu and he recommended a great one: Ardbeg, a smoky peaty Islay that definitely woke up my taste buds. Our meal started with some fresh bread, followed by toast points which accompanied some roasted marrow bones. Think foie gras...but better. Yeah, I just said that. I then had the 801 Chophouse salad, which might be one of the best salads in the city: mixed baby lettuces, roasted corn, tomato, shaved red onion, braised pork belly, Maytag blue cheese crumbles, with an herb vinaigrette and a poached egg. Wow. And then I ordered the Prime Rib. A massive medium rare portion came to me some time after my salad had disappeared in front of me. I had part of it for a dinner last night, and tomorrow the remainders will go into a beef stew I'm making. Yeah, that much. I still saved room (no I didn't, I'm lying, I made room) for a trio of sorbets. 100% first class and a worthy restaurant that I hope the cognoscenti in Leawood (because Kansas Citians have their own 801 in Power & White) keep this place open. Their closing their doors here would be a massive testimonial against your class and taste. This place is like what Hereford House and Golden Ox used to be like...back when they gave a crap.

The food was great, but it somehow lacked the fanciness you'd expect at that price. For example, we had cold, rock-hard butter served with our bread. Little details like that. The food was really good though. I had the raw oysters as an appetizer and the bone in KC strip as an entree. The salad was good. Bread was good. Mashed potatoes were good too. Service was good. Just didn't have the 5-star attention to detail to match the 5-star price.

Top notch. Excellent food, great presentation, world class service. Expensive, but worth every penny. Go on a special occasion and be sure to inform restaurant of special event in advance and they will make your dining experience even more special.

Dinner was awesome! They have a fried lobster appetizer that reminds you of the way they prepare and serve popcorn shrimp. It is scrumptious and filling. We ordered the prime rib (to share), broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes. Macaroni and cheese (Gruyere and Parmesan) and warm sourdough bread that came out of the oven. Omg! The food was toolicious! The sides are large enough to share (family style) and you can request a half order and it feeds up to four. I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for an elegant restaurant for fine dining.

My first time in KC. I was here on business. I'm pretty discerning and I will say that the meal was superb. I'm not a meat eater, so I was a little hesitant about 801 when I learned that's where we were having dinner. Boy, was I wrong! I had the sea bass that was amazing. But, the real stars were the sides. The scalloped potatoes, spinach, and onion rings were amazing! Although, I was completely full, I couldn't pass up on dessert. You can't go wrong with the cheesecake)). The whole evening was made even better with the warm and attentive service by Brooke. Thanks Brooke!
