Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I ordered the combo with a chicken chimichanga and two beef enchiladas. I usually don't go with a combo when evaluating, but I was beguiled by the great deal on the combo. The beef burritos in the combo aren't anything special, but the chimi was fantastic. The white sauce over the chimi had great consistency and complimented the flavor of the chicken nicely. One surprising highlight was the horchata, which was not only sweet, but thicker than most other restaurants' watered down version. Good salsa that tasted fresh, too.

I've been here twice. I'm a "mexican" food snob. I'm from CA where great authentic mexican is on every corner. This is the best Mex food so far in KC. It's a tiny place. The owners/staff are very very friendly. Food comes FAST. I've been here with friends twice on Thursday night which is enchilada special night. So far I've had the Spinach enchilada and the shrimp one. Both have a white cheese sauce & are amazing. Not authentic mexican, but really good. The chips were really fresh, the mild salsa is really good, the spicey one is awesome if you can handle heat. I honestly dislike Tampicos as they make everything super spicy. The spice ensures you don't think the rest of the meal is just generic. And it is. Real mexican food isn't blazingly hot. ;)

Good stop for the Paleo eater visiting Leavenworth. Don't let the outside fool you...good eats are inside. Good fajitas & guacamole and very accommodating to modify side dishes.

So I was kind of sketch about this place at first because I didn't expect it to be that great. The waiter wasn't very friendly and the food didn't taste authentic but it was still pretty good. The place is nice and clean. If you want authentic Mexican, don't come here.

Small and quaint but delicious food always cooked just the way I like it. The waitress and cook always recognize us. Small town feeling you can't get at bigger restaurants. We even are using then to cater an event for us.

Not big on the sauce that came on my Chimichanga (White melted cheese sauce). Could've come with more rice and beans. Over all food tasted pretty good. The spicy salsa was ok.

I think that this is the third restaurant to be outside the gates of Leavenworth in the past few years. I would give it a solid 3. I had the chicken Burrito, that contained shredded chicken, rice and beans. The chunky salsa is really good, but the chips did not seem fresh. Good deal, and very close to post. If you want "higher end", go to Tampicos.

Friendly and attentive service, serviceable alcoholic drinks; the place itself is something of a dump which is fine.....if the food is good....which it's not. This place has nothing on the menu to distinguish it from other local options except for some pretty tasty horchata. IMHO, Cafe Agave is a better option 9 times out of 10.

I love this little place. The food is always freshly prepared, not cooked, held, and reheated like some Mexican restaurants I've been to. Their guacamole is outstanding. My favorite is the grilled Tilapia tacos, but I've ordered several different things and have been pleased with all. The owner is quite pleasant and cares about the customer. We were weekly customers of Tampicos, but we haven't been back since discovering this little gem. We enjoy the laid back atmosphere and attentive service.

My best bet for Mexican in Leavenworth. Family cooking. Ask for the "green salsa", unique and wonderful. Daily special is a bargin and delish! Excellent Chile Relleno. Try the fish tacos!

In my opinion this is the best Mexican restaurant in Leavenworth. It's on the smaller side, housed in a small building on a corner. The chips are accompanied by two types of salsa - one on the milder side, and one spicier. Both are delicious. Really good guacamole, too. I've ordered about a half dozen items from the menu, but my personal favorite would have to be the guacamole enchiladas, partially because they're covered in cheese sauce. Delicious. If you like cheese sauce but you're not into guacamole, don't worry, becuase they cover some of their other dishes in cheese sauce too.

We were in town for a day trip, looking for a lunch spot, and this place was a block away. Decided to give it a try based on the Yelp reviews, and glad we did. Very, very unassuming place. I don't think I've ever been around a waiter who said less than ours. He was very friendly, but just as quiet. The food came so fast that I was reminded of the scene from "Defending Your Life," where Albert Brooks' character is in the diner in Judgement City and his food arrives seconds after he places the order. As others have mentioned, it's not the Americanized Mexican food that you find at so many places these days. Very good authentic food. We'll certainly return if/when we're back in the area.
