Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I've had Tad's four times now. The first time was THE BEST! I heard that they had a guy from NY come and train the staff and I went there immediately. He was still there watching everybody and boy, the pizza was the best I've ever had. Fell in love immediately. Got the 18" Eggplant Pizza, the box was huge and the pizza fit perfectly inside of it. So much sauce, so much luscious eggplant, a fair amount of cheese. The crust was perfectly thin and there was a light amount of greasiness. Definitely had to fold the slice to eat it properly. The second time the pizza was very small, didn't look right in that huge box. I got the veggie lover pizza this time, was definitely not as good as eggplant. The crust was too thick, not enough sauce... The 3rd and 4th time I've been here I have stuck with the 18" Eggplant Pizza, I now order "Extra Sauce". The size of the pizza and the amount of eggplant slices still doesn't match up with that Perfect First Pie, but it is still very tasty. I NEVER get the slices of pizza that are out. They do not look appealing to me at all. I will definitely be back again! *edit--funnily enough I've only been back once since the original post. wasn't feeling it as much that last time....

They do not bake the pizza long enough anymore. Pizza is always a bit undercooked and is sometimes just mush in the center. Still tastes good, but I end up baking it longer when I get home. The pizza always seems to take much longer than they say it will take. I do not think "a few minutes" means 20-25 minutes.

I've only ordered for delivery so I can't comment on the building. However, I can say that if you are from the East Coast and want a good pizza, Tad's is the place. I grew up in the NY/NJ area and grew up on this style of pizza. I like all types of pizza but New York style is my absolute favorite. The first time I had Tad's I was happy and sad at the same time. Happy because it tasted so good and sad because I've been living in Lawrence 15 years and only now found out about it.

Pretty basic pizza joint, from what I can tell. I haven't had much NY style pizza so I can't really be the judge as to how authentic this is. It's the closest pizza place to our house, so it's very convenient for a lunch hour stop. I was impressed with the selection of slices that they had and prices were very reasonable. I agree with the observation that the workers are a bit clueless...we were there over a pretty slow lunch hour and it seemed like the owner was doing most of the legwork. That might smooth out as they get more experience, though. On to the pizza...I got a slice of the Fresca (Fresco) which is basically chunks of mozzarella and tomato slices. When I tried to bite into it, half of the toppings slid right off on the grease slide. I ended up having to sort of hold them on there while I ate it. And I know folding is proper etiquette for NY Style, but it seemed like the crust would rip in half if I tried it, so that wasn't an option. The mozzarella chunks were cold, which was weird, and the pizza was lukewarm, but fairly flavorful. We got some garlic knots to share, which were pretty good, but they were also cold, so not what I was expecting. It was decent overall but definitely not my favorite pizza in town. Maybe we'll try it again after they've been open a while longer.

Still a great place to get pizza. The pizza is amazing and I can't even begin to say how much I love the garlic knots! On top of that, there are awesome choices past pizza that are super tasty. Super friendly staff!

This is a mixed review, mainly because of my own gluten intolerance. The pizza here is delicious, and the service is friendly . Thin crust, nice spicy-ish sauce (my little kids wouldn't eat it because it was too spicy), lotsa cheese. Three stars due to the gluten free issue. I can't eat it from here or I get a reaction. I found out why one night while I happened to be waiting outside for a pickup. I saw my pizza being cut with the same slicer that they were using on all if the regular pizzas. I doubt that they took any care while preparing or cooking it. If you have a medical reason for eating gluten free, try Wheat State Pizza. They get it, are careful, and the pizza is truly delicious.

I rarely write reviews, but I am incredibly disappointed. I've ordered once or twice before and was unimpressed, but tonight was the last night I will be ordering from them. I got an order of fried mushrooms, a ham calzone, and a pepperoni roll (a total of about $20, not including delivery fee and tip). At $4.75, I expected a fair number of fried mushrooms, but we received maybe a dozen of what were clearly frozen breaded mushrooms. The interiors were like an explosion of dirty dishwater in your mouth. Additionally, they skipped one of the golden rules of frying, which is to salt the food immediately after removing it from the fryer. Then, upon opening the box for the ham calzone, I discovered a pile of lukewarm mush. The dough wasn't completely cooked (maybe because it was frozen?) and the filling was a combination of watery sauce, oddly chunky cheese, and barely any ham. I imagine that it may have been better if it had more fillings, but at $1 per filling (regardless of actual ingredient cost. A full dollar for black olives, really?), I wasn't about to add much more. I ate part of the calzone, and decided to try some of the marinara they provided for dipping. The sauce tasted like they had used canned tomato sauce and left it unseasoned. My partner had the pepperoni roll, and it was the best thing out of the meal. It was on the greasy side, but I expected anything with pepperoni and cheese to be fairly greasy.

This is NY style pizza and probably the most authentic kind you will get in Lawrence. That being said, it's not great (compared to actual NY style pizza) and it is overpriced.

Here's the deal: Tad's is the best pizza in Lawrence. This is the first pizza I've had in recent memory that is as good cold as it was hot. The sauce is incredible. The hand-tossed crust (which you can watch being made in the store) is soft and chewy. The pizzas come with gigantic slices and it's affordably priced. I hope they're prepared to hire and expand, because as word gets out about this place (as it's already starting to), it's going to be swamped. I've long been a fan of Kansas City's D'Bronx pizza, and (aside from the atmosphere), we finally have something equal in taste in Lawrence.

I can only review Tad's service, not their pizza. Here's why: Last night I decided to order Tad's because they are located only 8 blocks from my house. I figured it would be a quick and easy dinner. I ordered a large (18") one topping pizza and was surprised that the total came to $23. But I was willing to pay it since I was feeling lazy and really didn't want to cook. The person on the phone told me my pizza would be delivered in 30-45 minutes. I waited. After 60 minutes, the pizza had not arrived. Since I live so close to Tads, I was concerned and a little annoyed. Just as I was getting ready to all and inquire about my order, Tad's called me. They explained that they had accidentally sent their driver to another address because that address was linked to someone with a last name similar to mine (What?!). Anyway, the boy on the phone said "I do apologize. Your pizza will be there in 5 minutes". I waited. After another 25 minutes (Almost and hour and a half after I placed my order) the pizza STILL hadn't arrived. By this point I was pretty pissed. I called and spoke to a manager and asked when my pizza would be delivered. I complained that 25 minutes ago they had assured me it would be there "in 5 minutes". The manager gave me the same line I was now used to hearing from Tad's staff "I do apologize". However, the line was delivered completely insincerely, and the without any offer to rectify the situation. I doubt the manager was even listening to my complaint at all, because at one point he said "I do apologize. I can make you a new pizza." (What?! I don't need a NEW pizza - just deliver the pizza I ordered an hour and a half ago.) He did not offer to make sure my pizza arrived ASAP or even to give me a discount off my order. I cancelled my order and will not be ordering from them ever again.

I really enjoy the option to have the food delivered...what better way to shove my face than to do it at home without any pants! But really, aside from in my opinion being a wee bit too overpriced, I've always had satisfying food here and great service. They have hot dogs!!! And the fried cheesecake is a good way to end a deliciously gluttonous meal.

We ordered a 18" pie and it was the worst pizza I've ever had. Just at first glance it was covered in grease (I know there will be some grease and no grease is impossible). The crust was so soggy and floppy you couldn't even pick up a slice without all the toppings sliding right off and crust ripping apart. It may have been under-cooked or it soaked so much grease it got soggy. After trying one slice I lost my appetite.
(1)Tino K.
Worst pizza I've had. Too soggy and doughy. Looks like the toppings were slopped on the pizza. I could have made a better pizza at home.
(1)Tom V.
Darn good, better New York style pie than that of Keno's. Very appealing selection of pies to choose from when grabbing a slice (or more) and really good prices for what you get. Hope they have the capital and ambition to expand.

Best Pizza in Lawrence (Kansas)! I know it is not saying much when I say that Tad's has the best pizza in Lawrence, a town of 90,000 with some of the poorest restaurant choices per capita in the nation, if not the world, particularly when it comes to Italian food. I had heard that Tad's had good pizza a few weeks before our recent trip to Puerto Rico, but we did not have a chance to try it before we left. Upon our return I was too burnt-out to cook, so I ordered from Tad's mobile website while in the sauna at the gym. Their site is actually quite user-friendly and easy to navigate, but I was dismayed when I realized that when I created an account to order our food, I had apparently signed-up for a service called "EatStreet". Tad's and/or EatStreet should warn you before enrolling in a service without your permission, including "push" notifications I neither wanted nor needed. Back to the food ... I ordered two pizzas, one NY Cheese and one NY White, and at $14 and $16 respectively for an 18", not a bad investment. Wheat State Pizza is comparable in price, but offers Groupons from time to time, making them a better value. Tad's should consider doing the same or offer more specials than the limited number they have now. With tax and tip, the bill totaled about $36, not cheap for "PIZZA NIGHT". I routinely order the most basic menu item available on my first visit to a restaurant, in this case no pepperoni, sausage, or ... YUCK ... PINEAPPLE, to see if they can get the basics right. The pizzas arrived promptly even though Tad's is across town from our house and the delivery person was very friendly and polite. My only critique was that when I handed him $40 for a $30 order, he asked "do you need some change", to which I responded "yes, please!". The red, cheese pizza was delicious and reminiscent of the pizza "back East", thin dough and crust, well seasoned sauce, and good mozzarella cheese, the type that stretches when you pull the slicers apart. I do not know why it is so easy to find good pizza in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania where even the bad pizza joints serve pizza better than most places in Kansas. The white pizza was also very good with no sauce, abundant mozzarella cheese, and a dollup of ricotta on each of the eight slices. The pizza could have been improved with some extra-virgin olive oil brushed on the dough before adding the cheeses or possibly some garlic, oregano, and/or basil added under or on top of the cheeses. It was a bit dry and lacking taste, but was tasty nonetheless. We will definitely be ordering Tad's pizza again. My only recommendation being that it would be nice if they offered salami as a topping. I have never sen a true NY pizzeria that did not have salami and my favorite addition to a simple cheese pizza. Overpriced by a buck or two a pie, CombatCritic Gives Tad's Pizzeria 7 Out of 10 Bombs based on VALUE ... BOMBS ARE GOOD!

If you think NY style pizza is great, even if you have thoroughly convinced yourself by living or visiting NY and partaking of their pie, and you think this place is the best Lawrence has to offer, I strongly disagree. This is just another NY-style place that makes OK pie, nothing else. After visiting some in-laws and partaking of this "AMAZING" pizza, since they lived in NY NY for a period of time and are the authority on just about everything, they insisted we try it. OK, sure let's get some. I had one piece and stopped, not because I was satisfied, but because I was not enthusiastic about the pizza. I did lie to my family and said "the crust has a nice snap" thinking by using a NY term that I was obviously on the same page as them. Well, I wasn't, and the pizza was devoured by them. I am not a fan of the spongey crust and I can see why people fold it: to get the whole experience over with. I am a huge pizza fan. I worked in the industry for about 6 years. I am by no means an expert, but I have my opinions. My opinion is I have had way better in Lawrence and abroad. While Tad's may offer some nostalgia for displaced Yanques it is not the end all of pizza joints. Seek pie elsewhere.

Amazing food and great customer service! Their pizza and garlic knots are amazing! The Cali dog is definitely a must try! There is no other place like this in Lawrence.

So I heard of this place from a friend who said it was pretty good. So I got two large pizzas, one veggie and one combo. When I went to pick it up the people working there where goofing around. I shrugged it off and took my pizzas. Then when I got home both were veggies. I called them telling them they got my order wrong. They admitted the oder was wrong but didn't seem too concerned about it since "its the same price anyway." Thats not the point! My order is wrong! And at the end of the day the pizza was under cooked anyway. For all the 5 stars this place gets I'm really disappointed in their service.

We've eaten here enough times to think we have the scoop on it. Here's the trick, don't have it delivered or take it home. Doesn't work so well. Getting a slice in house, OK. Just wish they'd drop the New York style tag... I've had a *lot* of New York pizza in New York. There isn't anything close to it in Lawrence and most of the stuff in Kansas City misses the mark as well. Please... This is decent but unremarkable hand tossed pizza. Hell of a lot better than Domino's, Pizza Hut and other chains. We'll stick with Tad's when we feel we need the fix, but dining inside their really unremarkable storefront will have to do.

We've eaten here twice and we liked the pizza neither time.

I just got a supreme pizza from Tad's, with delivery via GrubHub. Delivery was quick, significantly faster than GH'S estimate. It was a bit expensive though- $40 for two pizzas, an 18 and a 12. It did taste good, but the toppings just Would Not Stay on the Pizza, which made it kind of a mess. The chunks of sausage were too big really. The crust was fairly thin and a little chewy- not bad just not great. I think that sums it up right there- not bad, not great, *maybe* not worth the price unless you're an East Coast pizza snob or something.

Our family gets pizza every Friday or Saturday night for family pizza night. Tad's is great. There is one other place we occasionally order from in town to mix it up with pan style pizza but Tad's is really our go to. This is the closest to NY pizza you will find in Lawrence. My husband is especially judgemental on NY "worthiness" given he was born and raised in NY. In addition to all the traditional toppings--they have a great white pizza. Their garlic knots aren't bad just may need to order a few orders as there are not many in one order. This pizza is great when it is hot but unlike some other reviewers I don't really like it cold. It's a little too greasy at times as well. They also tend to undercook the crust on occasion which is why I can't give it a 5 star. We get delivery every time so I can't comment on the actual building or the service there. However they do deliver and they are very nice. During the last KU game they forgot something in my order and the delivery person was so apologetic. It was probably my fault because I added it on real late. They came back with it within 10 minutes and brought some free garlic knots with them to say sorry. Was handled very nicely. Pricing is very reasonable for the size of the pie! We plan to keep eating here!

Ohhhhhh, just...not very good. This place is pretty close to my office, so I was hoping for the best. Wouldn't it be great to have a decent pizza place so close to the office? Well, unfortunately Tad's won't be it. Note that this is entirely based on lunch, which consists of the pre-made, reheated slices. I've never been a fan of that style of pizza, but it can be OK if done right. I don't think Tad's is done right at all. First, the crust is quite good...the area of the crust with the topping is a bit thin for my liking, but the edge is big and chewy in the right way. However, that's where the positives end. The toppings are just...extremely skimpy. I had the "BBQ Hawaiian", and my colleague had Eggplant. They were reheated quickly and came out in a few minutes. Both underwhelmed...there was almost no topping on them at all, and even less cheese. Nothing tasted memorable at all, and I feel the price was absolutely too high for what you get. If you just ordered a pizza, I could see it being better...hopefully with more cheese/topping and keeping the decent crust. However, based on my experience, it will probably be a bit of time until I try Tad's again, and I definitely won't be getting the pre-made lunch slices ever again.

The pizza is great. They really nailed the New York Style--the sauce is right, the crust is pretty good (though it could have been a little softer/more bendable), they've got some specialty pies that look interesting (but not for this vegetarian). They've also got the atmosphere nailed down; not much to look at and not a ton of room to sit down, but it reminds me of pizza places in New York--very simple, no frills, basic menu, pretty legit product. I'm almost reluctant to review the service here since I understand they have been undergoing a soft opening, but our experience on Saturday night was pretty bad. Clueless kids were working the counter; my dude and I apparently got the last two slices of cheese pizza that they had ready at the moment and our dining partner was told he would need to order something else (Seriously? No ETA on when another slice would be available?) I agree with David G.'s review that it is sort of oft-putting to see the slices just sitting on the counter behind a plastic screen, and when they threw ours in the oven they were barely heated up. The garlic knots were also sitting on the counter and weren't heated up when they were thrown into a paper bag for us. My dude and I got our slices and grabbed a seat and waited on our friend's Buffalo Chicken slice, but the clueless girls working behind the counter had forgotten to put it in the oven. He went back up to the counter with his receipt and received a half-hearted apology and a few minutes later, a lukewarm slice. A few friends of mine walked in after we had gotten our food and asked us how it was, but when they got to the register they were told they didn't have any slices ready so they ended up leaving. Tad's is going to need to get it together if they're going to cater to the game night crowd in this town; the product is good enough that we'll probably return (at least for a takeout pie) but when Minsky's opens up here in May we'll probably be getting most of our pizza there.
