Someone pinch me. This newly renovated space is in Lawrence? You're kidding. I've been driving by it for awhile and finally took a peek in the window a few days ago and was sort of taken back. Man, that's NICE. And so today I sit just having a terrific 16 oz. cup of joe for $1.49 and hands down the best breakfast burrito ever in this town, acquired at the recommendation of a really nice gentleman working the counter and happily greeting everyone that enters. NOTE: Beach Bum Breakfast Burrito with Jalapeno added, $2.29 killed it. Wait... good food, good pricing, a beautiful environment AND good customer service? Is this Lawrence we're talking about? This space has been so many different iterations of restaurants and failed coffee shops over the years but to my eye this building has found it's anchor resident. Beautifully decorated in the Sandbar's island theme, it's cute but not gitchy to the point where you want to hurl, ie., the Tommy Bahama syndrome. The original brick tile was retained with a beautiful new counter space with wooden frames, lots of carry-out items like chips, donuts, etc. Everything looks new, it's spotless, the service is good, the music is rocking but not overpowering. And get this, it's also a convenience store, something downtown Lawrence has needed for some time. Next door sharing the room is a People's Bank satellite with an ATM. I had a problem with accessing the wireless (this building has always had that issue, it's Lawrence's main provider, not the business) so out comes the manager and he helps me until I get access. Unheard of. What else I noticed: Fresh squeezed orange juice machine loaded and ready Deli meats and salads Most of the things you expect at a convenience store minus gas Hmmm, beer and wine available as well. Failing to find anything I don't like here so all I can say is, job well done Sandbar!

The breakfast is awesome! I eat here all of the time. The breakfast is my favorite! I usually get the Biscuits and Gravy, but I get the King's Breakfast bowl sometimes too. The biscuits are baked every day and they are always hot. I even have went in for lunch and got biscuits and gravy! I definitely recommend trying it out! You can get breakfast any time of day BTW, and they are open 24 hours on the weekends.

I assumed when they opened this high visibility location right across from the bar that it meant I'd been missing out on something important all these years. That just isn't the case. It's a sandwich shop in a town that has multiple places making excellent bread, yet theirs seems to come from a hospital cafeteria distributor. I've been twice now, and it's never bad, but for the price, It's disappointing. The service is slow, hesitant, and not knowledgable despite the fact that they are also always super nice. They just seem as confused about it all as I am. I've never seen more than two other people in there, but maybe I go by at odd times. I walk by at least multiple times a week, so I don't know when those busy times might be. The menu, like many fast casuals in town, is ten feet away, angled, and makes me feel like a tool. Chipotle's menu is just as far away from the counter, yet I can read it from the front door. I've had the brisket and the hot dog. Both were OK, but both drop in stature when price factors in. I work very close to this place and buy my cigars two doors down, so it would be super convenient if I could make this a regular stop. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen.

I love this place. I work very close by and am a definite regular. The customer service is always wonderful. They are the nicest staff in town. I always leave happy and with what I need. I am really grateful that they opened so close to my place of employment.

Lawrence needs more sub shops, this place helps fill that void. Everything was super fresh and clean. Staff was very friendly. This might be my new favorite sub stop!

I LOVE sandwiches. I was so disappointed that the Sandbar has no good veggie options. The only veggie sandwich is a hummus one, which I never like. Particularly with bread and not a wrap, it makes the whole thing soggy and I don't mess with that. The cheese and veggie options were very mediocre. There is no spicy sauce, so everything tends to be lackluster. There are delicious-looking doughnuts, but the staff did not know where they were from. Overall, very disappointed, which says a lot from someone who loves sandwiches.

Fresh sliced sandwiches and breakfast served 24/7? Sign me up! The Sub Shop also doubles as a mini-convenient store which downtown Lawrence has needed this for a while!

Such a cliché.......but you know what they always say, "Why didn't' I think of that?" Well, this wholeheartedly applies to the Sandbar Sub Shop sitting on the outskirts of Mass Street in downtown Lawrence. Simple, yet brilliant idea that is ideal for this area of town. Especially with the late night bar scene; close proximity coffee shops; and the increasing (and current) residential folks moving to the area. Clean, open, safe, great customer service, solid hot & cold food, respectable prices, and all the convenience store type items often found in other places. Another cool feature is their freshly made orange juice machine. Kinda pricey, but worth every penny. There isn't a huge selection of snack type foods such as Frito Lay chips, candy bars, packaged pastries, etc. But I don't think this is their concept anyhow. There are small dining tables with chairs inside for those that may want to sit and eat their food or sip on a drink. The Peoples Bank located inside Sandbar Subs is mere feet from the tables. There are also a couple of large LCD TV's showing ESPN most of the time within viewing distance. Not sure if Peoples Bank or Sandbar owns this particular area, but a nice touch. The bathrooms are extremely clean and hope they stay that way. As others have mentioned, decent coffee, really good biscuits and gravy, along with fantastic burritos to your liking. Sandwiches are pretty good with no ground breaking innovations in that department. Don't bypass the freshly baked cinnamon rolls if you ever see them sitting in the case. Especially if you see the cinnamon rolls lying on a hot cookie sheet; grab one and thank me later. The hours have been adjusted a bit since the grand opening. Closing time is 3 a.m. on the weekends and I believe Thursday as well. The owner is well known around town and always looking for ways to innovate the convenience store type market. Ownership recently closed a Sandbar gas station on 6th street in Lawrence to many disappointed fans. There are still two fuel stations in Lawrence operated by the same ownership group. Outside of Lawrence, Sandbars owner did wonders with his place in Ottawa, Kansas south of KC, just off I-35. It has since become a Truck-Drivers paradise during the late night hours, especially with the 24/7 Scooters coffee shop located inside. Anyhow, Sandbar Subs is worthy of a try if in the area. A few unnamed eateries and coffee shops within the immediate area have been known to grab breakfast food and take back to their establishments. In fact, at least two Baristas have encouraged (and given approval) the bringing of outside food from Sandbar into their coffee shops. I would never make a habit of this, but an occasional burrito with your morning coffee is a great combination.
