High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. I'll give it the three based on the breakfast burritos. Bacon, chorizo, meatless with eggs, potatoes and beans, not quite as big as your head, but definitely filling. If only the opened thirty minutes earlier! This is solid, no-frills-breakfast. Will it cause me to quit my job, move to Ixtapa and begin a new career raising free range goats, probably not. Will I stop there again for breakfast? Certainly, maybe even tomorrow.

really really good. their name stands true - they're the actual kings of burritos in Lawrence. salsas are great, and while it's sometimes better than others it's always good. open real late, too.

I've tried this place three times, and three times they've messed up my order. I first came by one day after remembering their tasty chorizo tacos my mom had brought home one day, so I order some of those. I come home to find my tacos filled with breakfast sausage.

Despite its reptation for "only being good at 2:00 AM when you're drunk" I really like Burrito King no matter what time of day it is. There have been a few sketchy events that have taken place at this location (i.e. shootings, stabbings), so you might avoid coming here when it gets dark. My personal favorite items are the breakfast burritos and I eat them on a regular basis.

I have been to this place probably about 20 times. It is one of a few places open at 2 am on a sunday night and thats prob only thing it has going for it. My order has been wrong 33% of the time (veggie nachos, no sour cream, no rice (the rice has chicken stock in it)). I tip every time bc my order has mods and every time I wish I hadn't. Last time the guy called me a "puto" as I was handing him a dollar (spanish for b**ch). Don't eat here. If you're really hungry, ask a homeless person for some chips or something.

Decent bang for the buck. Drive-thru burrito place. It beckons late night drunks like a moth to a flame. The cops should just set up a dui checkpoint two blocks away. Food quality is highly variable. I've had a few bad experiences (salmonella, overcooked rock-hard rice) there and probably won't go back again (or at least until I'm drunk at 2 am with car keys in hand).

The other reviewers (um, like, no offense) are fools. I lived across the street for four years, and I ate here all the time--usually sober. Is it authentic, life-changing Mexican? No, it's not. But hey, this is Lawrence, KS, right? The veggie burrito is affordable, tasty, and comes with some pretty darn good salsa. And the tamales are a delicious surprise. My advice? Go sober, walk up to the window, enjoy.

  • Michael J.

These are possibly the worst burritos I have ever had.

  • H T.

The burritos are okay. The food is similar to Mexican fast food joints but the restaurant is local. Give them a try.

The Burrito King lives! I once lived a block away from this drive-thru/walk-up place. Super friendly staff and quick service make this a Lawrence staple. Servings here are gigantic, sloppy, and comforting. This is one of those places at which I rarely went to while sober, being one of the few places open past two any-night of the week. I personally enjoy the breakfast burritos, they're simple and satisfying. The Nachos are great. Beware of the vegetarian burrito, the only vegetables Burrito King serves are tomatoes and lettuce, making for a pretty bland bite, but adding guac can really helps this one out.

  • Corey O.

Drunk drunk drunk. Unless this sounds funny too you, in which case you probably aren't sober, avoid this place. Do not do drive through or take away. If you must eat here. Eat it there, because the only way to save this horrible bland food from becoming completely inedible is to eat it while its very hot. Just stick to taco john's or taco bell, a higher being should save you from this pit.

I'm stuck between one star and two, mostly because after a night of drinking, "The King" tastes amazing...but then I remember the couple of times stopped by during daylight hours and was neither impressed, nor totally grossed out with my over-stuffed hunk o'greasy meat. I'm going to go with two stars, because it's quick and I remember the service being quick with a smile and always friendly...but you've been warned.

Drunk munchies only. Do not eat here sober. That being said, I recommend the 6 taco deal. 6 tacos for 3 bucks. mmmmmmm.....

I have eaten at this Restarunt a couple of times now and find their burritos to be quite good. I would go so far as to qualify this Restarunt as sleazy Mexican, and this is meant as a compliment. I loved going to hole in the wall Mexican restraints while I was living in California and I will return to this one often. It is the first good Mexican food I have had in Kansas. I also appreciate the selection of hot sauces they offer. My wife likes the fact that they have a vegetarian menu. And a big plus for me is the late hours, I work nights and am generally nocturnal so places that are open while I am up are awesome.

Burrito King ... Monarch of Most Mediocre Mexican Meal I love Mexican food and I like reasonably priced Mexican food even better. Enter Burrito King. I have tried pretty much every Mexican restaurant in Lawrence and have been sadly disappointed by the mediocrity ... and Burrito King did not let me down in that context. Just a few blocks from our home, I drive by the drive-in restaurant daily yet had not given them a try until yesterday. You walk or drive up to a window to order and I was quickly greeted by a friendly young man eager to take my order, almost too eager in that I did not have a chance to read the menu posted outside before being prompted to order. I was surprised to find numerous other options beside burritos on the menu ... tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas ... all at fairly reasonable prices. I ordered the enchilada plate (3 enchiladas, rice, and beans for $6.95), a "steak" and bean burrito ($4.98), and chips and salsa ($2) in order to sample just a few options. I prefer cheese and onion enchiladas and would think at the same price as meat (steak, chicken, pork) that there would be an abundance of fillings, but I was again disappointed. The red sauce covering the tubes of corn was bland and sparse, barely providing any flavor to the tortillas which were void of any significant fillings. I tasted no onions and the small amount of cheese inside did not quite make it it to the ends, leaving just tortilla and a little tasteless sauce for the first and last bite of each enchilada. The rice and beans were equally tasteless. The burrito tasted "OK", but there was very little "steak", mostly beans, with a little cheese, and some some lettuce. At $5, I would expect a bit more beef and cheese, maybe some guacamole. The chips were crisp and tasty and the salsa well done, appearing homemade (not out of a can or jar) with hints of poblano pepper and cilantro. Students probably love the quantities and prices offered at Burrito King, but for those of us who prefer quality over quantity, Burrito King falls short, at least on this visit. There's one rule to Burrito King: Come drunk. I've been eating at the 'King since '08, back when they had 6 tacos for $3, and $3 burritos. I lived on 11th and Tennessee and drunkenly stumbled to this place dozens of times in college. There are very few food options in the wee hours of the morning, and if you're hammered -- it doesn't get any better then BK. My go to is any of the breakfast burritos, but INSTEAD of beans, ask for potatoes. The service is fairly quick, the food is always served piping hot, and the salsa is actually pretty damn good. The prices have gone up, but they're still reasonable in comparison to other fast food options. This place deserves to be recognized as a city land mark. Not a place to bring your date, but give this historical venue a try.

Great burritos, yes, the kind to surely entice drunken college students at 2:00 a.m. when the booze has been consumed far too long. But that's not me. College is a long way in the mirror I'm afraid. Tacos. Yes, their delicious mouth watering pastor, carne, beef or chicken tacos, nicely wrapped and to order with what you want. Taken to go you get home and rescue them from foil and their nicely double-wrapped and still hot and moist as they should be. The meat is flavorful and seasoned properly. Normally I drive to Kansas City when I want great tacos, but Burrito King is decent for Lawrence--a town filled with more than its share of crappy fast food and upper-scale wannabe dining spots that aren't quite hitting the mark on a routine basis. Burrito King takes the pretense out. Fast Mexican food served by Hispanic folks that know how to make a meal worth the price. Honestly, if this food was in Kansas City I'd probably rate it a 3, but for Lawrence it gets my four-star rating. A great little spot that's just a little different in an area of town that clearly has the need for just this kind of food.

This place has been around FOREVER! Definitely not the best mexican-type food that you'll ever have but for such a tiny place with a drive-thru it's pretty decent. Cheap -- You get what you pay for!

  • Tracy B.

I LOOOVE Burrito King. People have said to try it drunk but I've only been there river and still like it. Huge portions and the food is hot and fresh. I love that the food is wrapped in foil, too. I love the #1 burrito- beef, rice and beans. Terrific. It is difficult to eat a whole one at one sitting. The salsa could not be better. The prices are great, too. Sometimes, the food has slightly too much grease but I am willing to overlook that for such tasty food.

This place is a decent burrito joint. They have some good offerings. We usually go in the morning for breakfast burritos. Yes, we get burritos here in the morning, sober and on purpose. Their good burritos are made even better when you add their salsa. Tiny little cups of greatness. The recipe they use is just right, we often order extra cups just so we have some to top other things we eat that week.

  • Ryan F.

Not a terrible place, although I have had some rude servers here before. It is open until 3 am, which is a plus. The red salsa is delicous. Most KU students will swear that this place is awesome. Then again most KU students are always drunk and/or high so their opinion of what good food is can be pretty warped at times. Try it at your own risk, it's usually good but sometimes you get some crappy experiences here.

Do you like to get hair in your food? No? Same here. It happened 2 times. Every time they charge a different price for the same order. Good salsa, horrible chips. I am done.

Borderline 3 star, but as of late they deserve a 4 star rating. The young owner that took over a couple years ago is usually working the drive thru in the mornings. This is where most of my experiences have come from with Burrito King over the past couple years. Before that, Burrito King was turning into a complete dump with terrible food!. Burrito King is the Lawrence version of Kansas City's Pancho's. My go to items at Burrito King are the breakfast burritos and breakfast taco's. really difficult to mess those items up and will usually get freshly made items during breakfast. No frozen or pre-made menu items during breakfast time. Don't misunderstand me, they have improved their regular lunch/dinner offerings a great deal with "some" fresh ingredients. I'm not a big meat eater for breakfast. Therefore, most of the breakfast items can be prepared without meat and still taste delicious and fulfilling. Try the egg, potato, rice, beans, grilled onion, and pepper burrito. Grade A in taste and price. Taco's are usually prepared with eggs and whatever toppings you request. I will say this now; Burrito King has some of the finest red and green salsas in the area. Their sauces can compete with some of the best in Kansas City as well. Try for yourself. Their street taco's are very good. Regular burritos are good. They serve ice cold Mexican Coke which is always a plus. The owner is extremely friendly and accommodating. I know they have had some awful servers over the years. Especially at night when all the crazy's used to frequent Burrito King. Well, here are a few negatives......Main piece of advise I can give you is to "Check your order EVERY single time you go through Burrito King". Weather it's the owner or anyone else working the windows, you can be sure to get a surprise in your bag at least once. This has happened to me a few times over the years. You will order an item, get half way down the street or sitting outside at one of their tables and realize you have been given something completely opposite of what you ordered. On occasion you may come out on top. But other times, you will be frustrated with the complete lack of attention to your order. For instance.....I ordered a breakfast burrito one time and ended up with a tamale instead. How is that even possible? By the way, the tamales are terrible. Not fresh and taste like 100% lard. Also pay close attention to your bill. I've been charged $1-$2 more for my food and have no idea why. The thing is, if you say something, they usually realize the mistake and take care of it. How many people don't notice it and are being overcharged? Overall, not a bad place for a quick meal or morning snack.

After moving to Lawrence, we needed to find a breakfast burrito place. And this turned out to be a great spot. We usually stop by once a week or so to get several potato, egg, cheese, and bacon tacos.

This place is better than even a lot of the sit down Mexican restaurants in town. Things that are great: Mexican style soft tacos with soft corn tortillas and cilantro, the pastor meat and the spicy beef, the tamales are the best in town. Also the burritos are great, they use refried beans and I believe fried rice.

  • Brandon J.

The best tacos el pastor I've had in my life. I'm constantly disappointed whenever I order them anywhere else. Their chorizo is also amazing. I lived in Lawrence for 10 years and this was one of my favorite places to eat (sober!). Now in KC I miss it so much. I get the pastor pork every time I'm in town!

BK does it again. Burger King's latest foray into the ever-changing culinary world is BK Burrito King - a drive thru Mexican joint with loads of character, an extensive menu, and late hours that are sure to satisfy your BK urge whenever it hits you. There I was, second in line as the crowd waited, mostly patiently, for the BK 2 AM drive thru. They were running just a few minutes behind and asked us to be nice. Behind me some people spoke in excited, hushed whispers about how this was just like that Food Network Show about fast food. The woman in front of me complained that there were several fast food drive thrus near her work place and they never opened late. I said, "Well, but I bet no one working those windows ever worked with a pregnant 16 year-old." Silence. Crickets chirped. Sigh. I had plenty of time to scrutinize the building, lovingly restored from what appears to have been a Checkers or Rally's. The menu was hard to read from very far back, but artfully done. When I got my chance to order, I asked for the fish taco and the Mexican banh mi torta. In just a few minutes, my dear partner and I were enjoying a very different nom nom from our car seats. They did not serve these items. The fish taco would have been divine - imagine three small pieces of fish breaded and golden fried on a bed of cucumber, radish, and avocado. Possibly there was a sauce that would balance the dry, crisp ingredients perfectly. The torta would have been an entirely new experience, with a creamy, decadent liver pate oozing from the bun. Inside, one may find cilantro, beans, pork, and these amazing little pickled carrots and chilies. Possibly there would be a hot sauce involved, but I think mine might not have received any hot sauce. It would still be a beautiful sandwich that I will dream of often. Instead, I received a bean burrito. Beans inside of a tortilla. A few observations on things to improve along the way- I didn't receive any flatware or napkins with my meal. I asked for a napkin when the container with my burrito came with beans all over the bottom. I don't think I would have received one otherwise. They did not have a trashcan or waste receptical of any sort. They might want to consider that in the future. I wish the portions had been smaller so that I might have sampled more of the menu. The menu board is difficult to read, though nice. A great addition to the drunk food scene.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
