Oh Hays Kansas, why do you exist? Perhaps as a stop between Kansas City and Denver. Though this little city made Terre Haute IN (near where I grew up) look like the "big and interesting city". Seriously - the mall you past on the way to Mokas hasn't changed their sign since 1960, yellow and brown stripes be dammed. Yet there are a couple decent enough places if you want to avoid the chains near the interestate. Mokas was one of them. Sure they lacked class (my wife asked for ice coffee, their idea . . .put hot coffee over ice NOT COOL guys). Yet for the lack of cold brewed coffee, the hot coffee was solid, the selection of coffee drinks were good, and the decor was new and upbeat. You really don't have a choice in hays, its either the hotel, Mcdonalds, or Mokas. I would pick Mokas. btw - it serves lunch and dinner as well, though they close a little early.

Tasty sandwiches. Large coffee selection both hot and cold. Yummy smoothies & delicious hamburgers. Bakery items also looked fresh. Free WiFi. My whole family enjoyed. Highly recommend!

Nice local coffee shop. Great lattes and fresh scones. A wonderful way to start off the day.

Good sandwiches. I appreciated the healthy apple-as-a-side option, rather than chips. We did not try the salads because the sandwiches were clearly the site of the menu's creative energy. Free wi-fi and drive-thru. No gluten-free options.

It's hard to give a coffee shop that closes at 7 pm a high review. Coffee is a nice change of pace from Starbucks brand of burnt java. Decent food. But closing at 7 kills it for me. First 'coffee shop' I've ever seen do that.

Without any Starbucks around the area, I was about to stop at any gas station and get a cup o'joe. Good thing I stumbled upon Mokas. Great coffee, great service and the atmosphere is like a Starbucks on steroids. Multiple tables with different seating arrangements. The only thing missing is the music. But who needs music if you want to read in silence.

I'm not really into fancy lattè's or espressos, but a friend told me they have the best cup of coffee in Hays and I am inclined to say it is true. Too bad this place is so far from campus, or I would visit much more often. Very clean, reasonably priced (unlike Starbucks), and fast service.

We drive through Hays several times per year & just discovered this awesome spot today! It is a great option for coffee & breakfast, supremely better than McDonald's etc. near the interstate. Well worth the short drive into town. They also have a great-looking lunch bistro menu, which we will have to try on another visit.

Cute place, friendly staff, Americano and Caramel Royale Latte were very good. Lots of treats to choose from.

As a highly trained, third-wave barista of many years I'm admittedly a little critical of cafes that serve espresso drinks. At Mokas, you should definitely NOT go for the coffee. Their baristas are so undertrained that every time someone requested an espresso drink, a wretched screaming sound emitted from the machine for a solid 2 minutes signifying that they were burning the milk they were attempting to steam. There are so many better things to spend $4 on than a burnt, 200 degree coffee disaster. I'd gladly go to Starbucks over Mokas any day. I also ordered a pastry and asked if the girl at the counter could warm it up for me. She glared at me and pointed to a microwave across the room. Apparently the employees are only trained at how to ring someone up on the computer. Giving this place 2 stars instead of one because the internet was pretty reliable.

I pulled off the interstate to get some caffeine. Mokas was the only place open serving espresso drinks. The Mocha I ordered was so sweet I gave it back and ordered a 4 shot latte. The espresso was weak and tasted burnt. I like dark roast Italian coffee, but this espresso tasted nothing like good quality dark roast, it just tasted bad. I wound up tossing it in the trash on the way out. Waste of time and money.

Coffee is terrible. Latte taste like warm milk. If you ask for an extra shot of espresso it makes the drink taste like burnt tar. I have tried several breakfast items on the menu, none worth trying again. The french toast was dry on one half and soggy uncooked egg on the other. Drive thru is always busy, the wait time is very long. I'm done wasting my time on terrible tasting and over priced drinks.

Driving through and needed a cup of coffee to redeem horrible hotel coffee. Got the dirty dishwater that was sold as drip coffee. It was awful, but what was even more awful was the amount of people in the drive-thru line to get this swill. The only explanation for the long line is that this is actually a front for a meth lab. That, or, Kansans truly have no discernible tastes. Either way, avoid at all costs. A bad cup of coffee isn't worth ruining your morning. Keep driving to Manhattan to get a two star cup of coffee.

Passing through, looking for better coffee than Best Western provided. Disappointed to say the least. I can't attest to anything but the drip coffee, but it was worse than free hotel coffee. Watery, no flavor. Cute, busy place, but coffee was terrible.

Worth the drive off the highway. I enjoyed their peach iced tea and homemade raspberry white chocolate scone. Wide variety on their menu & a drive-thru. beats stopping at McDonald's

The breakfast food and drip coffee at Mokas are horrible. I wanted to give only 1 star but the bathroom was clean and the restaurant had a clean, warm atmosphere. I did not try the lunch and dinner menu. I needed to grab a coffee and quick bite to eat while stopping in Hays. I got a drip coffee and added what I can only assume was half and half since it was in an unlabeled carafe. The coffee was not much better than instant coffee and McDonald's coffee would have been a better alternative. I got to try two breakfast sandwiches: egg, bacon, and American cheese on a plain bagel and egg and bacon on a biscuit. The egg was stained with the red dye from the paper it came wrapped in. I ended up throwing away half of the tasteless bagel but even it was better than the biscuit, which tasted like factory lubricant and was charred. The bacon was mostly tasteless but had a crispy texture. Everything tasted mass-produced. I know this sounds harsh but I had to counter the 4 and 5 star reviews. Try to find somewhere else for coffee and breakfast.

Driving across Kansas looking for my Starbucks, couldn't find one. Found Mokas instead, Mokas is MUCH better. Next time I'll be driving around looking for my Mokas and have to settle for a Starbucks.

Very good coffee - that means something as we are both coffee snobs. Food looked good selection looked good - VIP - clean. Just needed coffee to hit road to Tulsa.

Food and coffee- very good. Until the staff can figure out how to keep the dining room clean, get your order to-go. I sat down at the only table I could find that wasn't laden with food crumbs. Despite the bountiful buffet already available, the houseflies insisted upon trying to compete with me for my meal. This spoiled what should have been a good dining experience.

Nice coffee selection ,nice staff, pretty good food , but the place is always full of flies, you spend a lot of energy keeping them away, maybe issue fly swatters.

Nice baked goods - delicious chocolate chip cookies. Friendly service, drive-through window. Large breakfast menu including traditional egg dishes. My latte was drinkable, but lacked even a hint of foam. Their espresso machine was a push-button automated one. To be a real coffee shop, you start with a real espresso machine. It's nice to be able to choose Moka's over Charbucks in Hays, but if you want an actual espresso drink, you'll have to go to Cafe Semolino on 11th St, downtown.
