Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

Had a Cheeseburger & Salad here one day with my daughter and our husbands. A very unusual event -- since we all have conflicting schedules. The server was very obliging, as we all ordered completely different items. We were there pretty early in the day and they allowed me to order a cheeseburger. I don't like breakfast items -- and give kudos to any place that let's me order lunch items either very early or very late in the day!! I also didn't want french fries and asked if I could substitute a small salad. The server brought this delightful little salad -- that to me, was perfectly made. The others enjoyed their breakfasts and they looked well prepared. Our server attentively refilled our coffees and iced teas as we spent a little more time than usual -- as we had just attended a school play and needed to discuss some family matters. I would definately go back!!

7/22/15 Could not get waited on, not crowded at all, did not see one waitress the whole time I waited, got up and left with people waiting to be seated. Have had a bad experience with this restaurant before, my fault for going back there for some breakfast. This place needs a management overhaul. Alan Holt

I took a group of six in here after an event down the street. It was 1.5 hours before closing, and we needed dinner! The waitress put up with my sassy kids and jokes right back at them, so that was cool. Also, the manager came around and checked on us a couple of times. She also helped her server take care of all of us with water refills. I like that kind of management :) Employees ALL acted like they enjoyed working, and that was a breath of fresh air at places like Village Inn. The downside: it took over 20 minutes to get our food, and we were one of three parties in the place. Also, the food was pretty bland. I am not a picky eater, but the chicken/avocado sandwich was nothing special. The breakfast dishes others in my party got also did not look like anything special. We would definitely come back, though, as the service was fantastic, and the hours were right!

My lady friend and I (being locals) have been going to this Village Inn periodically since it opened in Derby. We had been going to the one further north on Rock Rd, and were pleasantly surprised to see some of that staff in the new location. They have an interesting, eclectic array of menu choices - especially their breakfast selections. While keeping certain favorites, they have also switched-up some other ideas to keep it fresh. Two things that come to mind on their breakfast menu are their skillets and breakfast scrambles. They offer some interesting combinations and seem eager to tweak them to suit any whim. My personal thing is that I feel that any restaurant in the south had better be able to produce a decent bowl of grits. Check! Pancakes should be light and fluffy with choices in buttermilk or whole wheat, and choices in regular, flavored or sugar-free syrups. Check! If you want sweet potato pancakes they serve those too. Every once in a while I like a piece of delicious pie afterwards, and theirs is the best. If you are thinking of ordering some pies for the holidays, this is your place. You won't find a more varied or interesting selection anywhere. Now about the wait staff. I really appreciate how they make you feel welcome. From the greeter to the waitress/waiters, and bussers, they've got this figured out. Even when they're really busy and you have to wait a bit for a table, they have free WiFi to allow you to check news, email, etc. If you happen to look around a little, you may notice the bussing staff attacking a table, getting it ready for the next clients. They remind me of a NASCAR pit crew; quick, slick and efficient. Knowing that they are considerate enough to make sure you don't wait longer than necessary makes you feel like you matter to them and you don't mind waiting a bit for excellent service. They turn them quick!

Always a good experience, this place is kinds like IHOP with Pie. Lol staff is very friendly and the food is as good as expected. If you come for breakfast you will leave satisfied, if you come for a lavish dinner you won't be happy. It is what it's meant to be. Good coffee too!

Breakfast all day - what more do you need? The services was quick and friendly even during a crowded lunch hour. We all had breakfast for lunch and were pleased. That said, there was nothing unique here - it's just another chain diner type restaurant. Worth experiencing while in the area - but not the best breakfast I've ever had.

Village Inn in Derby is new so had to go by to try it since I love the one on Rock and Harry, my favorite places for breakfast/lunch. Ordered the Ultimate Skillet which is 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links, mushrooms, green pepper, onion, tomatoes, Monterrey Jack and cheddar cheese, with 2 eggs your style, country potato's and 2 pancakes. I live for this breakfast/lunch, and would eat it everyday at least for a while. They got to us fixed us up with drinks fast and took the order. They were not very busy but it took them 10 min to get our order ready, a little longer than normal but not bad. The bacon wasn't as crispy as I like but I didn't order it crispy so can't complain to much about that. Overall it very fine middle of the day breakfast. I would recommend them for a great meal anytime...

I really like this restaurant. My mother and I eat there at least once a week. The staff is great, and the restaurant is well-run. The food is very good and prices are very reasonable. Service is almost always excellent. It is now newly remodeled and even nicer. They do a good job of keeping it clean. I highly recommend it.
