First time, we enjoyed the 4 course dinner for 2. Great selection and phenomenal taste and quality of each course. Service was fantastic. Awesome going out experience! We did have reservations, but got there early for drinks at the bar. Bartender seemed pretty busy, but kept things moving.

Give me a break, in a country club, but not country club quality. High prices, stuffy service, below average steaks and presentation. Lots of advertising spent in area, Don't believe it and spend your dollars elsewhere.

Should have believed the bad reviews, hoped it meant they simply had a bad day or two. We loved the original Kansas City Hereford House and hoped for a similar experience on our anniversary. Our mistake. #1: Stood at the hostess station being ignored by staff walking past for nearly ten minutes, a gentleman who appeared to be a manager finally wandered up (had been standing nearby) and seated us. #2: After a wait of ten more minutes, our waitress arrived and took our order - the dinner for two. More than twenty five minutes later, our appetizer (stuffed mushrooms) appeared. During the wait, both a man and woman who appeared to be managers walked around talking to the regulars and ignoring the tables obviously waiting for food or service. During the entire time we were there, the patio and dining room remained less than half full. #3: Forty five minutes after we arrived, we finally received our salads, at which time we expressed our frustration (nicely) to the waitress who said the kitchen was 'slammed'. With less than twenty tables? #4: One hour and twenty minutes after we arrived, we finally received our entrees. We expressed our displeasure again to the waitress, who offered to have a manager talk to us. We commented that both managers had been walking past us for more than an hour and didn't seem to be concerned. We also noticed other tables experiencing the same delays in receiving food. As we ate our belated entrees, the female manager who had been ignoring us suddenly appeared to ask how everything was. We explained our dissatisfaction. After we received our dessert and check twenty minutes later, she reappeared and offered to pay our bill, if we would agree to come back. We declined. Hope that was objective enough. Food was okay, not up to standards of KC Hereford House now closed. Lesson learned.

Great dinner on Valentine's Day and great steaks and service! Had a later dinner reservation on Valentine's Day and after a short wait at bar we where seated and greeted by our server and it was top notch all the way! Sea hogs appetizer where great! (Bacon wrapped shrimp) I had s bone in rib eye and my valentine had the 12 oz ribeye! Cooked to perfection and full of flavor! Our sides where also perfect! Great food, service but a off the beaten path location.

Great experience for a visitor from the Southeast. This is the Wichita outpost of a Kansas City steakhouse that has been going since 1957. I really appreciated what might seem cliché to residents of the city, namely the the photos of cowboys and cattle drives from long ago, the dark wood paneling and exposed beams. Just gave me a nice sense of place (even if the exterior was very modern with an upscale mall design. We had a separate room for a family event with over 20 people, and the service was effortless, well-timed and unobtrusive. Each diner enjoyed his or her meal, and we sampled from all over the menu, lobster tails to most of the steak options to chicken piccata. Most of us were clean plate club members and opted to pack in dessert as well. All the steaks were cooked perfectly to order, and my filet was juicy and flavorful. The spuds (mashed potatoes) were excellent as well, and I don't say that about just any mashed potato. Only lackluster items were the Caesar salad, which was limp, and the carrot cake, which was bland - how do you make cream cheese icing that has no tang? Saying that this is a traditional steakhouse is a compliment. The Hereford House does what it has been doing for over 50 years extremely well, and accommodates large groups with an ease you can effect only with experience and a great staff. The wine selection is well-chosen. Also, for couples, there is a Dinner for Two option for $65 that takes you through 4 courses (as well as a side dish). Not all entreés are available in this option, but there is a nice choice (although, counter-intuitively, all the steak options come with a $2 or $3 supplement).

The wine service was excellent. The hubs and I were recommended this place by a friend and decided to give it a shot for our anniversary. It was cozy and had a live jazzy duo playing. The atmosphere is what wins this place its four stars because the food was just ok. My steak was way over cooked and i was forced to send it back. The second steak was still over done but at this point i just wanted to eat. None the less at the end of our meal the manager offered us a nightcap of our choice and was kindly apologetic. My husband's prime rib was outstanding but the appetizers and salad were just average. I will consider going back and try something different, perhaps order my steak medium rare in hopes of getting it medium well.

Excellent food and great service. We will be back. The filet was the best I've ever had. My husband usually drenches his steak in A1 sauce and barely dabbed his sirloin. Cooked perfectly.

the chicken piccata was boring and dry. all the steaks our table ordered were undercooked and very rare/raw. ordered asparagus and got 3 spears. bread was hard as a rock. not impressed. average dinner meal price person is $30.00. the chicken piccata was $20. steak & shrimp $40. very long wait for meal. arrived at 6:30 and finally got our dinner @ 8:00. not impressed ;(

Steakhouses are perhaps the worst product of a bygone generation. What is so special about an 18oz porterhouse that warrants me dressing up and going through the pomp and circumstance of cloth napkins, wood floors and wine lists up the wazoo? Steaks are downright gluttonous and immensely boring, and I after eating a pound of meat and a $50 tab per person, I waddle back to my car feeling worse than when I started. ...That's what was going through my head every time someone had asked me if I had been to the Hereford House yet. And rather than release my vitriol upon them, I politely shook it off with the promise that I was sure to make my way over there soon. After several careful attempts at perusing the menu to find enough variety to warrant a review, I finally gave in and drove out to the Sticks dressed up in an outfit that was probably nicer than average. Yes, it's an imposing building from the outside, but when considering what to wear to Hereford House, keep in mind that A: you're in Wichita and while the number of restaurants that warrant a jacket are in the single digits, those same restaurants would also be fine with a collared shirt and slacks; and B: the majority of clientele are golfers, so dress equal to or better than them and you'll be fine. The key to a good time is in the bar menu, which even when at the bar isn't automatically offered - you have to specifically ask for it. I think the reason for it lies in the 8oz KC strip being $10 on the bar menu and the 10oz being $26 on the dinner menu. More importantly, I didn't want to fill up on half a cow, making sure I had enough stomach room to focus on things like the soup, the asparagus, and the mac and cheese. My medium rare steak was overcooked, though well-seasoned between the salt and pepper on the steak plus the heavy and ugly addition of the paprika all over my plate. The three monstrously large stalks of asparagus I received were monstrously overcooked, and I could barely pick them up with my fork. The mac and cheese, while admirably using a Mornay base, was heavy on the cream and light on the cheese, plus the penne was - again - overcooked. The cream of broccoli soup du jour was perfectly ordinary, though I would suggest the use of white pepper next time so the black stuff doesn't stick out quite as much. Though I haven't been to the Hereford Houses in Kansas City, I was told that this location was purchased and run independently, which makes sense as there's no mention of it on the main HH website. It appears there was a time when those other locations weren't serving Sterling Silver beef, too, which makes sense when you realize that Hereford is a brand of beef that none of these Hereford Houses are serving. I further learned that this branch is classed up quite a bit from the KC locations, which were likened to more of a casual Texas Roadhouse-type atmosphere. I don't know if that last claim is true, but if all of the focus on increasing the status of the Wichita Hereford House went towards the atmosphere, it certainly makes sense why the food was disappointing on a level much lower than you would expect from a country club steakhouse. I still hate going to steakhouses, but in this particular case, when literally my entire meal is overcooked, it's not hard to understand why.

A very good steak house in a nice location. Great wine selection and very good service. You could pay more somewhere else, but you won't get a better meal. Enjoy the patio when the weather is nice. There was a band one evening.

Dinner was amazing this evening. We had reservations for 7 p.m. at Hereford House. Nestled in the Terradyne Country Club, this restaurant's ambiance was rugged elegance. The modern West decor was laid back, yet innovative. Service was absolutely outstanding. Our server, Kelsea, did a great job in making sure everything was to our liking. She was quick to get us refills and was there to take care of our every need. Kelsea was one of the best servers I have ever met. Our entire table decided on the Thursday night special, which was the Bone-in Rib-eye. This "cowboy cut" of beef was so beautiful. It was massive, almost like a Fred Flinstone cut of meat. I thought the boys had died and gone to heaven. The men at our table are butchers by day, so trying to impress them with a good steak can be tricky. The steaks were cooked perfectly. I love the little char of the crust and the moist hot pink center melted in your mouth. Our baked potatoes were heavenly vessels for the "out of this world" chive butter and thick creamy sour cream. Do you hear me people????? This food was amazing!!!!! There was so much food and we did not want to leave any of it behind. We tried to eat as much as we could, but alas! Much to my sorrow, I could not eat all of the steak. I was stuffed to the gills and was fat happy for the moment. You know what I mean by fat happy. You are so full, you can barely move, yet you want more but just can't do it. Fat happy is only good once or twice a year. This was definitely a fat happy moment, one to remember. If you have not made it out to the Hereford House, it's a must go. They really don't advertise which I am thankful for. It's kind of like my own little secret special place to go on nice occasions, a place where you don't have to fight the crowds. Tonight was a special night and I have to thank this restaurant for doing it right. Service was first-class, food quality was outstanding, and the atmosphere was superior to many fine dining restaurants in Kansas. This Hereford House will blow any of the Kansas City establishments out of the water. We were extremely satisfied customers. Thank you Hereford House!

I am usually disappointed with steakhouses. Probably because I think my husband can usually make a better one at home for the money. But I really enjoyed the steak I got here since it was very tender and juicy. It was not difficult to eat. It is the best steak I have had in Wichita. But what stands out the most to me is the dessert. I love this place's carrot cake. It is pretty awesome. Excellent service and they even took me in a golf cart to my car.

Been there on numerous occasions, seems like the service is going down hill. Do not go on a night when they have any type of occasion (i.e. Valentines Day). They can not handle a full house. The bar was tended by one person who seemed overwhelmed. We had reservations and they just stuck us in a back room that had no ambiance. It was kind of like a cafeteria with table clothes...no music, next to the kitchen entrance and bright lights. The staff are not trained very well, at least not to the level you expect at a $30 per steak place would have. Had to ask for water, place setting, bread plate. Waiter was not very attentive. We waited for 45 minutes from time of order until we had our meals. A water was tipped over and they showed not interest in taking care of it other than giving us a few napkins and we had to fold the table cloth up so it would not keep running down our clothes. House wine $8 a glass....really? The steaks came out and they had what looked like a tall weed coming out the top..they literally had rosemary stalks 6 inches high poked in the top of them. Over all poor plating and presentation of the steaks...warm steak placed on a cold plate that looked sloppy. In this night it was comparable to an applebees. Disappointed regular!

Went for the Sunday brunch buffet and was rather disappointed. It is very small and does not have much to offer. They had a table full of desserts but they were still frozen & obvious they bought them from the freezer section at a local grocery store.

Best steak in Wichita. So much better than Chester's and half the price. The dinner for two is a Great value. Gotta try the stuffed mushrooms and the white chocolate bread pudding

Some of the best food in Wichita. Ribeye steak is top notch, and a great environment.

Went for Sunday brunch buffet. Building and facilities were upscale, but patrons were mainly dressed "business casual" and not so fancy as someone else described. The prime rib was excellent, so were some of the entrees. I was a bit surprised though, based on the upscale appearance of the facilities, that a couple of the entrees lacked flavor and adequate preparation. But again, brunch buffet was only $14.95 per person plus drinks, so at that price you really can't expect every item on the buffet line to be perfect. (Price was going to be higher when we tried to book a table on a holiday.) Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Overall a good value, we will go back.

VERY UPSCALE environement, more so than almost any restaurant in the Wichita area. Remember to dress formal and look rich and classy. I made the mistake of wearing a tshirt and jeans (nice jeans, lol), and I recieved a lot of dirty looks. I really got an elitist vibe from most of the staff and especially patrons, but superficial judgement aside, the food was ok, but not nearly worth the price; 90 bucks for two. I've had better steak at Outback. Won't be back. If you're wealthy and like to indulge in overpriced meals that make you feel classy, then this might be for you.
