We were looking forward to having a chicken fried steak lunch and were very disappointed that it was not hand breaded rather it was a frozen steak fry like you would get in a package at grocery. Not sure the mashed potato's were real potatoes either. sad because we saw the advertising on local channel and drove 45 miles to have lunch.

Always great food and service. One night is mexican night. Specialty is Steak strips and their onion rings are the best. They are closed on Monday's.

Good thing we already knew about Mr. K's, because it appears to be the only decent place to eat in Abilene, a truly culinarily forsaken town in the middle of nowhere. Even the fast food places by the freeway don't include any where I'd want to eat. And Mr. K's is outside of town on a back road, so you won't find it by accident. Decent farmhouse-style food. I had a small but tasty chicken-fried steak. Not sure why it's called Mr. K's. (It was originally called something else.) Abilene is Eisenhower's town, and in an Eisenhower context that name means Mr. Khrushchev.

Well we came as a group and was served chicken fried steak and peppermint candy cane ice cream for dessert The food was good, family style food. Mash potatoes and mixed vegetables I can't speak for everyone, need to try.

This place can't spell fresh. All the food was processed or from a package. Farm house, would make you think fresh. They charged $10.95 for an adult. Our food was below average, Luke warm, the flavor I could not recognize and the kids chicken nuggets were served raw. Our server was less than adequate and when I told her of the raw chicken she told me it was my job to talk to the cashier about the issue. I politely told her no, you are the server and please take care of it. Will never go back or recommend this place to anyone.

Great food. Very warm and down home like. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was good. If you're a homesick researcher at the Eisenhower Library, I recommend this restaurant. Parking is small but as the restaurant is in the middle of a field it isn't a problem.

Love the atmosphere and the food is great. Their salads are the best in town, and if you want to do yourself a favor then buy some bottles of their very own house dressing. It's amazing.

Not the best not the worst. Edible but failed to live up to expectations. Expected fresh local fare. Got frozen food reheated. Probably will not return.

Not quite sure where the negative reviewers ate, but I'm guessing it wasn't here. The food is wonderful. We're so glad that they brought the Big E back!! It is totally wonderful. We bring our grandchildren here very often and have never had anything less than an exemplary experience. The few times we've had an issue, always minor, the server jumped right on it and made it right. We've never been told to take it up with the cashier. The pan fried chicken is one of my personal favorites and I've never been disappointed and the flavor is wonderful.

Went there with a friend last evening. Their small parking lot was full and the restaurant was busy. I admit the pies looked yummy just like the photo here. However, the meal was a disappointment. I know my Country Fried Steaks...come to think of it mashed potatoes and gravy as well as homemade vegetable soup. We started with the soup: the green beans were green and lovely and there were other odd bits of veggies thrown in including a dark gray piece of mushroom (yuk) and the broth was watered down and weak. Now folks, in a soup with broth, the broth is EVERYTHING. K's was flavorless. Next the salad. The salad was carelessly chopped and included the stem pieces of the cauliflower. Salad was dressed with a farm-style dressing like my aunt used to make, but again watered down and overly sweet. Main course: I asked specifically if the country fried steak was breaded fresh in the restaurant and was told that it is. I have my doubts. It had more the taste and look of factory work. It was bland and had numerous pieces of unappetizing tough connective tissue in it. Ugh. The mashed potatoes and gravy tasted and looked like instant and from a mix. I was hungry when I walked in, but gave up and left food on my plate because I thought I'd rather consume my calories at home later. Come on now! "Farmhouse restaurant" ? If I served a meal like this in my home I would be genuinely embarrassed. The setting on the edge of town is lovely but it was cold enough inside that I placed my winter coat over my legs and the chair seat was so hard and worn out (foam) that my own seat started to go to sleep. Hey, I realize it's tough to make money and keep going in small town restaurants but put a darned cushion on the ancient worn out recycled chairs. Those were probably new chairs in the 1960's (seriously I'm old enough to know that) and have seen a lot of hard wear since. The joins were loose on the chairs. I'm glad I did not end up on the floor. At a nearby table a man said to the waitress, "You didn't ask me how I want my prime rib." And she replied, "It's medium." His jaw literally dropped. So I think others were disappointed like me. My dining companion said the food was okay and that maybe other menu items were better, he hoped.

Too awful for words. The "turkey" on the sandwich was pink and crunchy, and had no discernible taste of meat or anything else. The salads came coated in sickly-sweet dressing, and the brisket was chewy and topped with red slime, which tasted like cherry lifesavers melted with half-raw onions. The sour cream that came with my potatoes had four preservatives listed on the packet. Don't let the fields fool you- it's nasty, processed food.

Fantastic food. All the ingredients are grown fresh on site and it makes an incredible difference. Their Vegetarian Sandwich is absolutely delicious. All the veggies are fresh and crisp, and the cheeses perfectly melted. The service was fast and friendly. My husband and I plan to return soon and often.

We were sucked in by the history. Never again. The pan fried chicken was over cooked and dry, the pan fried potatoes were way too salty, and the home made pie looked and tasted suspiciously like a out of the box frozen one.
