I must give Keith's 5 stars because of the great steaks my wife and I had there about a month ago. I have been coming here for 20 years and have never been disappointed, even after Gus left. Definitely the best Steak in Northwest Indiana. Seafood is also very good. Service is prompt and friendly, and the prices are reasonable for the portion size. Keep it up

Hidden treasure I found while working in Whiting, IN. Food was great. Definitely looking forward to going back. I had the sweet pea ravioli with marinara sauce. It was fantastic! Peas stuffed whole inside were bright green, fresh and full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I also had the veal meatballs which were just ok. They were a little too firm and maybe needed more cheese. I personally use a mixture of veal, beef and pork in mine. Everything on the menu looks great. It is a bit pricey... The ribeye steak sandwich is $17 most of the entrées are $20 plus but for the quality I would say that price is fair. Only criticism is I wanted to call my order in and they did not have a menu online. I was worried it was going to be typical bar food. I headed over there and saw the menu, which I will be posting on here. Apparently, from what I was told, the owner refuses to put the menu online. Regardless it is fantastic and everything looks great. My type of place! Went back for the pumpkin Raviolli with the pear wine sauce... A little too sweet for me. Another time I had the ribeye steak sandwich. Ribeye steak sandwich. At first I thought it was pricey at $18 but now I see why. It's a full Ribeye steak with veggies and potatoes and a really great brioche bun. Best I have had.

Their dinners may be a bit on the pricey side, around $80 to $100 for a couple, that's drinks, appetizer, and meals. They tend to use a lot of garlic, which in my opinion enhances the flavor of the food they serve. I recommend you make reservations and keep in mind that dinner is only available on Friday and Saturday evenings. Ask for a window seat when making a reservation. They have this little table for two in the back, which is up against the wall and in the line of traffic. They sat us their once which was very uncomfortable, and attempted to sit us there again the 2nd time we went there for dinner. We chose to eat at the bar instead. I would have given them 5 stars if it was not for that table. Bottom line, food is good, atmosphere is good, except for that on e table, and the price is worth it.

Ok so I lived in whiting for about 10 yrs. I've never been here until today. I work at BP and my manager has taken customers here before. And recommended it. They are only open for lunch and dinner on the weekends. We went on a Friday night got lucky and got seated right away. Recommend u call in for a reservation. We got a glass of wine and the glasses were huge lol which sometimes at some places they are small. We had the bruschetta as a appetizer. And the ribeye for our entree and let me tell u!!! The BF is a big steak man and he said that it was the best ribeye he has ever had! Big points! I almost ate the whole thing but couldn't finish it off BUT I left not having that I ate too much I can't breathe feeling u know which I feel tells you u had a great piece of meat. Our bill was about $120 which I was like dayum! But did ask the BF if it was worth it and he said yes. It is small and it was a lil warm in there but I was drinking but if u want a great piece of steak and in the area I highly recommend!

Had lunch here with some customers and was impressed. I had the Manhattan Chowder and the tuna sashimi....both were great. Attentive staff with cooked to order food is a great combination.

We went with a party of 7 for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. It was my first time there. I'd never even heard of it before. It is, indeed, cramped - especially the entry which leads past the restrooms before squeezing between the lilliputian kitchen and the bar. Then up a couple stairs to several smallish dining areas. Every seat was filled at 7:30 p.m. The noise level was moderate. We were at the very back. Our waitress was an older, blonde woman who we all thought we remembered from Phil Smidt's. (She hadn't worked there, but she was of that type: efficient, professional, friendly, someone who'd done this her whole life and had it down.) We had appetizers to share: mussels in wine sauce and saganaki. Both light and delicious. The salads - mixed greens with various dressings and Caesar - were adequate but nothing special. Some of us had veal, others pasta - all accompanied by appreciative comments. My seafood pasta was very good. (When has a bowl of crab claws, shrimp, and mussels in a tangy red sauce ever been bad?) I found room for a bit of key lime pie. FWIW, deciding on the seafood pasta wasn't easy considering the interesting menu choices. Looks like I have a reason to return. With two bottles of house Zin and beers and after dinner coffees and a glass of port it came out to less than $45 per person (including tip). While that amount may raise eyebrows in Whiting, it was solid value at a fair price.

Excellent restaurant! By far one of the best in Lake County Indiana menu is excellent food even better; no complaints can't go wrong here! Any person that says otherwise would complain about winning the lottery!

Consistently good food in a old family restaurant atmosphere. The only place in the area to get high quality food. Service is decent, and they take reservations.

Substandard dining accommodations. Had reservations and an unfortunate situation, being early in the evening, to be sitting next to two tables cross talking with one other and one lady with an annoying laugh. On top of that, there was a pounding on the wall that was just not pleasant (from I presume the "prep kitchen"). I proceeded to ask to be moved up front. The hostess insisted she could not help us with our plight. There was ZERO effort made to attempt to accommodate us. Just a lot of shrugs and "sorrys". On the way out, I had words with Keith and explained this was not a good situation. He seemed disinterested and I was bothering him with his conversation with patrons at the bar. I'll trust what everyone says about the food, but never had the chance to try the food. Customer service is lacking, and the place is in need of repair. This is not the "charm" I was expecting that people said the place had. I took my $120 for the night elsewhere. You should too! As usual, I think Regionites comes to expect less and substandard ideas of "ambiance" and service.

This place is da Bomb. The staff is A-1, and food even better. I love the Scallops.....just perfect. Slightly expensive, but worth every penny of it. I'm a repeat customer!!!

I've been going to Keith's for the last ten years, I haven't had a bad meal yet. Any of their seafood items are a winner. This week I ate there twice, my favorite dish is the seared scallops with Thai chili sauce...it's a tad spicy but the flavor is outstanding! A few negatives... 1. Tables are VERY tight and you feel like the peeps next to you can hear your conversation. 2. Waitresses: I like that waitresses/waiters check on you but these ladies really push the envelope. I'm not sure what their deal is, maybe they want to flip tables but I always feel rushed here. Very annoying, people skills are not their strengths for sure. Other than those two items...go to Keith's if you're in the Whiting, IN area..you won't be disappointed!!
(5)Roger M.
Fantastic ribs and steaks. Too small!!! They should learn to cut off drunks. Been there twice and the same drunks were loud and bossy. Three strikes? VERY PRICEY!!!!!!! NO PARKING!
(4)Howard L.
I had a very good ribeye steak sandwich ($14) cooked medium, and it was basically like a dinner at lunch time. My colleague had a half slab of ribs ($15) that fell off the bones and that he really enjoyed. It's a place with white table cloth service. Quality is very good here, but it's also priced for high quality. It can be a little slow at lunch time, as it's a popular upscale and business lunch location in Whiting. I meant to try the burger today, but deferred that for another visit.

What can I say besides "this is what a restaurant should be like" Best food. Period. Smoked Shrimp is spectacular. Filet's are tender and huge and very tasty. They always have interesting specials. As soon as you walk in you can smell the goodness. We have been here so many times, and we have NEVER had a bad meal. The staff is friendly, nice, and go out of their way to make your dinner enjoyable for you. Everyone we have ever gone with still raves about this place. This is the place I would go to for my last meal. Its that good. One of the best restaurants in the Region.

Whiting, Indiana is definitely not the hub of great food but word on the street is times are changing. A brewpub just opened and upscale Mexican restaurant is rumored to be next. Keith's is the old school standard though. I nearly expected a relish tray when I sat down, it has that kind of vibe. We started with the shrimp cocktail which was the best I had ever had! The homemade cocktail sauce was clear your sinuses good. The house salad was great, romaine lettuce, tomato and red onion in balsamic vinaigrette. The other 3 at the table settled on pastas which I tried and were all phenomenal especially the pasta puttanesca. I went with the filet which was monstrous sized as far as filets are concerned and was cooked to perfection, which for me typically means undercooked to perfection since I prefer rare, but they got it right on the money. The key lime pie was to die for! Can't wait to return

Great place to eat (and drink). Food is always wonderful, knowledgeable staff that provide great service. Best in the area!

Just left and the food was great. We went for Mom's birthday. We had 2 steaks and the pork chops. All was cooked correctly. The bananas foster was nice. The portions are large. We will return as it is a good value with great service.

OH yes, I love this place. ....Yes I do love this place. No I not only love this place im in love with this place. -There vintage pinup girl calenders -the color of the walls, -the servers that at first seem like cranky little old ladies but end up being really sweet and funny girls. -i love everything about it. I came here for a small bday celebration and i was so happy we did. We shared the calamari and the grill octupus and i really wish i would have just ordered it for myself it was delicouse i was still savoring the char grilledness from the octupus the next day. It was a special so its not available all the time. For dinner i had the salmon i ordered it cajun style, it honestly was the best salmon ive ever had. they must have just gotten a shipment or something because it was so fresh and perfectly cooked. I hate/love the fact that they have these select lunch and dinner hours. But it makes them more desiralbe. And im not sure if they make there deserts in house or not but the key lime pie is so light and tangy and GOOD!

outstanding ribs!. shrimp cocktail and fra diavol0 on the appetizers was excellent. i had chicken saltimbocca and this was delicious. one other in the party had scallops and they were very good. the wine selection was very good and our waitress was helpful and efficient. atmosphere was cozy. food prices are within the realm of other good restaurants. you can't miss going to keith's
(5)Julie A.
Yum veal saltimbocca! I have also had a delicious fish dish a awhile back as well. This is a diamond in the rough of Whiting Indiana. The waitresses are seasoned, however some lack the ability to describe the dishes besides saying it is delicious. They were right but it does help me pick between a couple items. I will be back!

I live in California (Santa Cruz area) and was in the Chicago area tending to family business and ended up at Keith's on 6/19/10. My brother lives down the street in Whiting and has raved about Keith's for several years. He was right and I was blown away!!! I'm not exaggerating when I say the best calamari I have ever had is the calamari at Keith's. I live on the coast in California and I found GREAT calamari in Indiana?! Go figure...but it was truly outstanding. The Diablo Shrimp (I think that was the name) appetizer and Pasta Cabonara entree that followed were also outstanding. Maybe that doesn't really say it. The food was TERRIFIC. The service was excellent and the entire experience was the highlight of my weekend in the Chicago area. I had a chance to speak to owner Scott Keith and found out the restaurant is only open for dinners Friday and Saturday. My condolences to locals looking for a great dining experience Sunday through Thursday. If you're anywhere near this place when they are open, do not miss this chance to have a remarkable/memorable dining experience.

It's a shame this great restaurant is only open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. I have always been impressed with my meal at Keiths. This is by far the best restaurant in Whiting and possibly Northwest Indiana. There are always great specials - entrees and appetizers. I am not a big fan of ribs, but when I have a taste for it, Keiths has the best. Better than Memphis ribs. Service is top notch. They have a full bar and a nice wine selection. I suggest making a reservation because seating is limited.
(5)Kristi D.
I love Keith's, we go here every 1-2 months when we feel like having a nice dinner but don't want to travel far. The menu is fairly small but they always have specials and I almost always order from the special menu. Their steaks and ribs are terrific, their fish selection is always perfectly cooked and I love their seafood pasta, a tomato based pasta filled with shrimp, crab claws and mussels. The last two times I've been there on a weekend, there has been a long wait, I think they are taking all the overflow from the recently closed Phil Smidt's. So get a reservation or you may be out of luck! It's fairly expensive for NW Indiana but the quality is high and I always go home with leftovers.
(5)Keely S.
This places is great! Its small, but the food is big! Steak, steak, steak! Perfect! Not cheap, but worth it. Everything was great, including my salad. If you get a chance, check it out!
(4)Dave S.
I don't get out to NW Indiana much but when I do this place is going to have to be one of my stops. This is a small bistro and the kitchen is located right as you walk in the door. This is a small place but with a very comfortable atmosphere. The service is friendly but I do feel that I was not attended to as well as I should have been. The cuisine leans toward Itaialin and the Fetuccine Alfredo was done perfectly. The prices are are not cheap but they are fair for the portions that you recieve This place is just down the street from Horseshoe Casino so be sure to stop by afterward.

Since the choosings are slim, I guess Keith's has the upper hand when it comes to "finer" dining in Whiting. The restaurant kinda reminded me of an old funeral parlor made into a restaurant.....hmmmmm? What was with the men's entrance? Who does that? Needless to say we two ladies used that door to come in and immediately came upon the restrooms..eww. Kinda strange. Small interior looked neat and cozy so we continued to our tiny cramped in space. Tables too close, but the space was tiny, so I guess that can't be helped. Menu was large and on the back were listed specials prices on the high side. Ribs $30? Please! Misspelled words, scratched out words, all hand written (very sloppy)where I had to ask my friend to help decipher the words. Why would you want to distribute that for customers to see? We had the calamari as an appetizer and that was very good. Wished I had stopped there. Cold bread and cheese rolls that would have been wonderful if heated. Who serves cold cheese rolls? Two choices for salad and a soup. I had the soup which was beef vegetable. It was ok, for that type but not my favorite. It's Friday nite, where is the clam chowder Was pretty disappointed with my dinner of the scallops prepared with a Thai chili sauce. Had to ask if the entree came with sides. No where was that printed. The 5 small scallops came way over cooked and served with mashed potatoes(good)and this vegetable medley. Do you really serve mashed potatoes with Thai food?..No choices of potatoes and the medley was also a surprise. I don't like red and green peppers or yellow beans, so of course those were all in the medley. Huge chunks of peppers undercooked, not good at all. The bus folks hardly let you put your fork down before the whisked your plate away. The whole dining experience was disappointing. Would have only given 1 star if it wasn't for the calamari and tasty spicy sauce. Keith has you hooked because of the lack of restaurants.....but I'd never come back.

Never had a bad meal or bad service. The staff is almost overly attentive. Their veal is so good there are no words to describe it. It's THAT good. Their ribs are so big, I felt like Fred Flintstone when they brought them to the table. And they were INSANE good. We've had about 40% of the items on their menu and they are all great. It's expensive - but good food with good service isn't cheap so don't go if you want to get out of there for less than $100. I wish they were open for dinner more often than just the weekend and that their drinks were a little less expensive but.........I'll still go. There seems to be the same obnoxious old drunk men/women at the bar every time we go which is kind of gross and it's all street parking so it's rough but, the food makes up for a lot of their shortcomings.
(4)Tiger L.
Zero Complaints. As good as it gets in The Region. Great food, good price, great service, NOT Chicago but every bit as good without the drive. Oct 11, 2014 went back again, this time with friends .. still delicious. Service was great.
(5)Sherri S.
Keith's really is the best restaurant in Whiting. The food is fresh and meticulously prepared. The restaurant is small but very nicely arranged and decorated. Nice ambience for a celebratory meal. The service is not great, though. Waitresses are slow and not very friendly.

We were very unsure of where we might grab a bite to eat before a show at The Venue at the Horseshoe Casino. Did a quick search on Yelp... and the dart landed on Keiths!! DO NOT let the older neighborhood bar look on the outside fool you, the food is awesome, service was speedy and delightful and if you get a night of the chef making desserts, you will be in for a treat!! (maybe not if you count the treadmill afterwards) Entering through the front door to a slightly congested bar area, which then opens up slightly to a seating area. It is small, so if you can make reservations, do it! Your table is dressed with a small basket of mixed breads and then fresh roasted garlic is delivered just after you are seated. My girlfriend had the Tuna and I had the Rack of Lamb. Both were awesome, served with veggies, potato and choice of salad or soup. Desert was a dark chocolate cake with warm cognac cherries (I hope I described it right). Either way, it was SOOO demolished, there was nothing left!!! Everything was spot on and had enough time to make it to The Venue for a show! This will definitely be a return visit the next time we are in the area!
(5)Kris K.
If you are looking for somewhere nice to go, this is the place. Its really close to Chicago, and you won't pay Chicago prices. Great food, great servers who have been there awhile and KNOW the menu, full bar, nice and cozy inside. Everything I've ever had there (From ribs to scallops in chili sauce) are fantastic. Staff really cares and it shows. I can't say enough good about this place. Its rather small inside so call for reservations to be safe.

UPDATE 3/12/2013: Okay I had to remove a couple stars because of our last experience there. The food was still pretty good but our waitress was rude and rushed us through our meal. (She didn't offer us drinks and when we asked she said "well it's lunch MOST people don't drink at lunch." after she took our drink order we realized she didn't ask because she would have to make them herself. Then, as I was eating the last few bites of my salad she walked up to the table with our entrees and took my salad plate away - I litterally had my fork with salad on it half way to my mouth, there was NO WAY she could have thought I was done eating it. I was so dumbfounded I just sat there while my husband laughed. Seriously bizarre. Maybe it was an off day but after reading some of the other reviews - I think that's just way it is. I'd think twice before going back. OLD REVIEW: This place is awesome. They have kind of odd hours (lunch daily - dinner only on Friday and Saturday) but I've never had a problem getting a dinner reservation the day of. We've been there 3 or 4 times and have never been disappointed. The drinks are wonderful, the apps are tasty and every entree we've had has been cooked perfectly. The waitstaff is knowledgeable, fast, friendly and accommodating. This is usually a spot we go when we want a grown-up night out but one night we decided to take my 7 year old daughter. I was concerned because someone said this wasn't a good place for kids, but when we arrived she was greeted as warmly as we were. They don't have a children's menu, but they were quick to offer a half order of the entree she wanted and she loved that they treated her like a grown-up. I would recommend Keith's to anyone looking for great meal when they are in NWI.

Hello Had to give this an extra star to MY liking. I heard a Doctor owns this place. It is a Doctor that knows whats good for you. My Blackened Mahi Mahi was accompanied with roasted Potatoes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Carrot. All cooked perfect. My Lemon Chicken Soup had real strips of chicken and tasted lemony , and homemade like it should. They make great Martinis too, just like downtown. Or maybe I just really needed one. If your in Whiting area try it it for lunch anytime or dinner on the weekends. Very Cozy.
