I have no idea how I have never heard of this place. I am sure I even have driven by it and missed the GIANT smoker in the front?!? It's next to the Westfield Antique Mall. I actually found it on the Yelp Instagram page with a photo of the Hoffanator, which is fries topped with mac and cheese, baked beans, pulled pork and ranch. A crazy concoction that sounds amazing! Messy, but yummy. We got there with only 45 min before closing and it was so hard to decide what to order. I changed my mind at least 5 times before finally just getting the Davey Jones, which is mac and cheese with pulled chicken and ranch. It was very good and filling. I got the ranch on the side. I am not a huge ranch fan, but I dipped a few fries in it that I stole off my husband's plate. His sandwich was huge and I stole a handful of fries since he had a large amount. I really wanted to try the Hoffanotor, but it just seemed like too much for me and the Davey Jones was perfect. They have some out door seating, but we sat inside. The whole place is decked out in pirate gear. I would for sure go back. I am now obsessed with the sasafrass tea! I have never heard of such a thing and I love Ice teas! I had 4 glasses. We'd worked ouside all day in the heat and it was the perfect thirst quincher.

Yum, yum, and YUM! Talk about some signature BBQ dishes. I'm a HUGE fan of Big Hoffas. My favorite dish is the Davey Jones: Macaroni and cheese Pulled pork Barbecue Ranch dressing Quite possibly one of my favorite foods in the world. Their fries are pretty damn good too. The only reason I'm giving four stars is because one of the staff members is extremely unfriendly and nearly puts me in a bad mood before getting my food. It's also a little pricey based on the portions. But it's worth it.

Finally! A worthy BBQ joint in the north suburbs. This place reminds me a lot of the BBQ shacks you find down south (US, not Indiana). Basically a shack (even though it is housed in a big building, I still call it a shack) with limited seating and a lot of carryout business. Order at the counter (be prepared - depending on the time of day, there may be a long line; don't worry it moves quick) and wait for your name to be called. The meats are basic (pulled chicken, pulled pork, brisket, pork ribs - no sausage, no whole chicken, no sausage) but done well. You can see the giant smoker out front so you know it's real BBQ (low and slow). The meat is truly tender (i.e. fall-off-the-bone) with a nice pinkness (the mark of proper BBQ). True BBQ aficionados will order the meats plain, but the stars here are the crazy sandwiches. They're topped with all sorts of sauces, cole slaw, fries, etc. Also, don't miss the sassafras sweet tea (they also have regular sweet tea). Big Hoffa's also have bowl of jasmine rice (!) topped with various meats, sauces, accoutrements which intrigue me. Sounds like a good reason for a return visit.

Excellent. My sandwich was really good. I had the Buccaneer which had a half pound of smoked pork topped with coleslaw. The meat was cooked well and it alone would be perfect, but the addition of the coleslaw really made the sandwhich and I can see why this is the flagship sandwhich.

Hubby and I discovered this gem last summer. It's a hole-in-the-wall, no frills, super laid back joint with pirate decor and fast, friendly service. We recently visited again last weekend. Holy cats is it a hoppin' place! The line was out the door, but we had our food within 10 minutes. Seating can be an issue, especially on the weekends, but people seem to move in and out fairly quickly. I opted for the 1/2 pound brisket with mac n' cheese and fries. The brisket is delicious, not dry, flavorful and complete with burnt tips, yum! It's a bit greasy down towards the bottom of the portion, but nothing gross. BBQ is add on your own which I love, the more sauce, the better! Their house sauce is sweet, tangy and rich. The mac n' cheese is so cheesy and stringy, love! Fries are crispy and seasoned. Their ranch is a must for the fries! The garlic butter rolls aren't anything special but you don't come for the rolls. It's extremely affordable, about $17 for two large meals. Great atmosphere, low key. The employees are always smiling and food comes out fast. One of our favorite places to eat!

For central Indiana, where barbeque is sadly somewhat scarce, this place is pretty solid. We discovered because of its convenient (for us, at least) location next to the antique mall. It's always busy...even during the week, this place is packed with businesspeople on their lunchbreaks, adult baseball teams, and various other hordes of people. The restaurant is thus packed with people as well as pirate decor...we haven't quite figured out what the pirate theme has to do with anything here, but they certainly stick to it. The barbeque itself is pretty good...nothing like barbeque you would expect in a state that is known for its unique style, of course, but good. The sauce definitely saves it, but the meat actually has flavor on its own, unlike at some similar places in the county. The best part about this place is admittedly the macaroni and cheese. It is literally TO. DIE. FOR.

Great place! The staff is polite and greet you when you come in. The menu is extensive and a little something for everyone (if you're a meat eater). I had the Hoffanator: French fries topped w/ mac & cheese, baked beans, pulled pork, bbq sauce and ranch dressing. It was so good! I made sure to grab some homemade pickles too. I had Sassafras Sweet tea for the first time, which I loved. I went during lunch time. It was busy, but I sat outside w/ my lunch mate. Overall, I loved the place. I'll be back.

Located on Main street in an antiques mall, this place can easily be missed if you haven't been here before. (Hint: Look for the yellow "Antiques" sign) The atmosphere is cozy with a pirate-themed dining area. As you come in, grab a menu and a table. Once you have decided on food, head up to the counter to place your order. They also offer carry-out and the food usually comes out fairly quick. I ordered the Buccaneer- a 1/2 pound sandwich made up of pork, coleslaw, fries and ranch dressing piled high on a buttered bun. I also ordered a side of the mac and cheese and baked beans. The meal was divine. I hadn't eaten all day, but this behemoth meal settled any hungriness that lingered. The sandwich had to be eaten with a knife and fork, but every last bite was delish. The fries were crispy, the ranch dressing was just the right amount and didn't over power the sandwich. I added some bbq sauce, and didn't mind the coleslaw, theirs did not seem to add much flavor, which is a plus in my book. The mac and cheese was AMAZING. Usually at bbq places, the mac and cheese is usually over cooked with some bland cheese sauce. This mac and cheese was super creamy and had a great cheddar cheese sauce to it. The baked beans were ok, I would have liked a little more brown sugar, or something to make them more flavorful. I would probably not order them again, since they rated just average while everything else was a stand out. I also tried their sweet tea and wasn't fond of their mixture that had a hint of orange flavor, but I could see how others would be fond of it. I also wish that they would have additional sauces. The house bbq sauce is good, but a little runny and had no heat to it. It would be nice of them to have some other flavors to try. In all, it is probably my top choice for BBQ on the North side. Just hope they add some extra sauces to try!

Great menu for smoked meat! The smoker is going 24hrs a day so plenty to choose from. Didn't see any beer selection FYI.

Wow. Any individual that likes BBQ must try this place. Yes, the chains are ok but trust me, they don't hold a candle to this joint. Took home the Hungry Hoffa and it couldn't have been better. Ribs... holy crap. I couldnt even pick them out of the container in a single piece they fell apart so easily. This is the place locals would take friends and family to and for good reason. If you find yourself on the hook for choosing where to go in such occasion (or any occasion for that matter) look no further. When I arrived there were at least 20 people in line; good sign. From the time I walked in the door until the time I left food in hand was ~15 minutes. Unbelievable for the quality of food! Prompt and courteous staff. No one typing on their phone. No one complaining about this and that, they have their act together. These guys know what they're doing. A simple observation of how the staff interact shows it. Give them a try, odds are you won't be visiting a chain anytime soon thereafter.. if ever.

Large portions, everything we ordered was delicious, and very friendly staff. Order meat on a plate and make sliders with the rolls that come with it! Highly recommend the sassafras root beer. Dress is casual (lots of people came directly from baseball practice). There's an equal number of tables inside vs out. Prices are in the $6-8 range and it's a LOT of food. I can't believe I've lived in Indy my whole life and never been here. I will definitely be back! (like, maybe tomorrow)

Tried this place on a whim while in town for a soccer tournament. The Buccaneer sandwich is LEGIT. A sandwich stacked with pulled pork + cole slaw + french fries = da bomb-diggity! My son had the meat (pork) plate and his friends had the rib plate and brisket sandwich plate and they all loved their meals. Definitely worth a try.

  • Greg W.

The Pulled pork was very moist and smoked just right! The sweet barbecue sauce was very tasty with a slight vinegar taste. The sides were good too, maybe needing a tad more seasoning. Big sandwich for it being the smaller of the 2 options!

This is a great spot ! I travel quite a bit and have sampled all types of regional BBQ across the country and allover the south. For northern barbecue Big Hoffas is pretty darn good. Give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed. It's unique to the area and for $ 7 bucks the sandwich and two small sides deal is a real winner !

I have been driving by here often for the past few years since we moved to Westfield and I just never took the time to stop in. Man has that been a mistake. I was looking through the reviews here on Yelp and the pictures Buccaneer really stood out as looking good and I am happy that is what I got. The sandwich had a generous amount of all it's ingredients and it really worked together well especially the cole slaw and french fries. For my sides I had mac and cheese and baked beans and both were very tasty. I can't wait to get back and lots of different things off the menu.

Consistently amazing, consistently inventive ways to present trading BBQ. Over the years I've been eating here it seems to keep getting better and better even though they get busier and busier. Now open 7 days a week, there is no excuse to try (or retry) some of the greatest BBQ in central indiana. Do yourself a favor and try this place out. If the line is long, wait. You'll be glad you did. Keep it up Hoffa 's Crew. Westfield loves you.

Went here for a friend's birthday lunch on 4/18/15. Let me preface this by saying I don't care for barbecue - it's just not my favorite thing. However, this place was very good!! I had the smoked sausage and it was AMAZING - it's deep fried (not breaded) and it was soooo good. The mac n cheese wasn't anything special but the cayenne potato salad was great. Two other people got the Hoffanator and one got The Captain - all said they were great. The only off note were the ribs which were apparently "chew" style as opposed to fall off the bone... Ambience-wise it is very homey and unpretentious....but it is small and loud. Very loud. The other thing that I didn't like is that you have to order and get your food at the counter - I prefer table service. In this case, the counter is it a very awkward place that blocks both the drink refill station and the restroom when it's busy. We will definitely go back!

This is the BBQ I was looking for when I travel back to the Midwest from CA. Cute spot. The food was fast, good and had good BBQ. I would recommend trying this place out for some BBQ.

  • James B.

Liked the food but after living in North Carolina and the Southwest this hardly competes as rave BBQ. I will admit it is the best that I have had in Indy which is kind of like the tallest midget.

This was my first visit to Big Hoffas and it was pretty awesome. The portions they give you is ridiculous and the meat itself is amazing . I had a 1/4 of ribs and they were amazing. I was just kind of disappointed in their lack of different BBQ sauces. The sauce they have is good, however is slightly running and not much of a kick to it. I would recommend this place to others, but if you're not huge of singular BBQ sauce I would say, still go for the meat!

Delicious!!! Just stopped in today with my boyfriend. I had the teriyaki brisket & jasmine rice. Very tasty and big portions for the price. My boyfriend got the buccaneer and was also impressed. Mac and cheese was also super cheesy and delish. The employees seemed very friendly and hard working.. Can always appreciate that. :) Next time we're in town we have to stop by again!

Love the flavors smoked into the meat. The brisket was so tender and flavorful. The pulled pork was juicy and tender. The sides were baked beans and Mac n cheese. My husband commented on the Mac n cheese as being the cheesiest he has had. This place will not disappoint make sure you get there early on Friday because the line was out the door at 5:30.

Big Hoffa's catered a wedding that my husband and I attended and I must tell you, it was fantastic! I've driven by the brick and mortar restaurant a dozen times and told my husband, "We've gotta try them some time..." Luckily, we had the chance to sample their food and meet the owner at the reception. I was impressed by the dedication and passion Big Hoffa's staff has for their offerings. Everything tasted amazing and they were friendly and super willing to try and please everyone.

I have passed this place a dozen times, and each time I've always said I wanted to stop and try it. I'm so glad I finally did. The food was delicious. I got the Buccaneer sandwich and my friend got the El Segundo. The pulled pork was absolutely fantastic as were the sides. Service was extremely fast as well. Big Hoffa's is some of the best BBQ I've had on the North side. I will definitely be back.

Really disappointed with their food the last couple of times eating at Big Hoffas. Ordered the BiG Hoffa meal. The ribs were good. The rib tips were terrible!!! The beef brisket had a lot of fat in it and ruined the taste. The sides were decent. Paid over $65 dollars for the meal. The place was busy, which normally is a good sign, however, when you call in meals and say it will be ready in 20 minutes, you expect the meal is ready in the 20 minute window. Waited 45 minutes after paying. I understand it was busy, but how about telling me that over the phone and say 45 to an hour wait for food pickup? Not sure the owner really cares too much. Didn't seem engaged with customer satisfaction.

I finally tried Big Hoffa's after having lived in the area for two years and wish I hadn't waited so long! Did carryout but was in the place long enough to take in the ambience, which seemed laid back and comfortable. It's in an inauspicious-looking building right on route 32 in Westfield and it's a bit hard to spot if you're driving by at night. The restaurant also has a pirate motif -- very cool. As for the food, I went with a half rack of ribs along with potato salad and baked bean sides. The meat was fantastic -- coated with a tasty sauce (you can opt to get it on the side) and fall-off-the-bone tender. The sides were great as well and the meal also came with two garlic butter rolls (as all of them do). Service was also lightning fast. Big Hoffa's is a definite winner and I'm looking forward to trying those ribs again soon!

I've had a lot of BBQ in my life, but BIG HOFFA'S is more than just phenomenal BBQ. The quality of meats is incredible. The unique and delicious combinations of food are unparalleled. The owner and staff are friendly and courteous. The owner is especially down to earth. He treats each customer like an old friend I am from out of town, but my family and I happily drive hours to grab BBQ from BIG HOFFA'S..Each dining experience transcends the last. I rarely give 5 stars to a restaurant, but if I could, I'd give this one 10!!

This is the second time I've eaten from here,it's five star plus...food is fresh hot and more than speedy service.sides are excellent.always busy but staff is always polite courteous and ready to help.hand dipped ice cream and ontologies of all that long neck ice cold coke cola how much better can it be....its the best!!!

Good stuff. It's a tiny dive, which tends to be the best type of BBQ places. The prices are good for a BBQ restaurant. I ordered The Captain (pulled chicken topped w/mac & cheese, fries, buffalo sauce and ranch - $7.00) because it was something different. It was good. The portion could have been a little bigger, but it's hard to complain for $7.00. I couldn't leave without trying their ribs so I grabbed a half-rack for $10.00. They were good as well, a little heavy on the sauce. The staff was very friendly (and attractive too!) and they do an amazing job serving orders quickly. Heck, even the customers there were friendly! I've heard quite a few people say Big Hoffa's is their favorite BBQ restaurant in the Indy area. My favorite is City Barbeque, but my meal at Big Hoffa's was an all-around good experience.

This place is SO good!! Saw on T.V. and decided to check it out and very happy we did. Great service, great portions, great prices and great food. We were there around 3:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon. It would get crowded and then thin out but we received our food very quickly. We lived in Alabama for a few years and thought we had eaten really good Bar-B-Que but this place has them all beaten. Great food. Keep doing what you're doing cause you got it right!!! And Adam, the owner, is cute too!!!

  • Warren R.

The meat is great. The layout is problematic. One door going in and a ton of people standing just inside that door waiting for their food. This is also where you take your plates to empty your trash and return plastic trays, etc. so it is really a pain to get around. Also, pretty sure the sides are store bought and then might have a little bit of stuff added to them. This can be OK but the last couple of times I have been, they have not been very good - especially the potato salad. Next time I may make my own sides at home and just go pick up meat. But the meats are awesome!

  • Amala A.

My boyfriend and I ordered pulled-pork sandwiches at Big Hoffa's and were entirely underwhelmed by the experience. The dining room is dingy and the barbecue was dry, and lacked flavor. I have tasted much better barbecue, even in the midwest. I believe that the people leaving rave reviews for this restaurant have never tasted decent barbecue.

  • Nolie P.

Love this BBQ joint. May not be the best BBQ ever but sure is damn good for the middle of Indiana. It gets 5 stars from me because of the creative twists on a BBQ sandwich, the happy-to-be there staff, quick service, AND yummy food. That is a hard combination to beat.

Love this place! This is my favorite place to eat in Westfield! Any time family Comes to town we pick up food and bring it home. Top 3 pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had. I think it is better than barbecue I've had in Texas and Tennessee! If you are thinking about trying please do.

From out of town on a visit to see my daughter and she said we had to try Hoffa's. We were not disappointed. I was little concerned when we drove up, and even more concerned once we walked in, but what the place lacked in atmosphere and ambiance it certainly didn't disappoint in the food and fast service. I've been in the Foodservice industry for 35 years and the quality of the food and creative menu offering won me over on my first visit. Don't go there if your calorie counting or looking for a salad because there isn't low cal option on the menu, but who cares! Our party of four had pulled pork, chicken, beans, the Hoffinator smothered fry plate and the Mac n cheese. Don't have a critical thing to say about any of it. We'll be back next time we're in town. Truly great authentic BBQ at fair prices. I hope they keep the value and quality in line and I'm sure they be there for years to come. Great job!

  • Jami G.

Great BBQ!! I am GF and Soy intolerant and really enjoy their pulled pork with a scoop of jasmine rice and their sweet sauce. I like sweet tea and they have a sassafras sweet tea but it's pretty darn sweet - we cut it with the unsweet and that makes a good mix. They keep it quick with an order at the front, find a table and then come pick-up your food plan. Usually, by the time you've got your drinks and pickles, it's time to pick up your dinner. REALLY FAST! Even when they are slammed as they were Friday at 7:15 when I visited first. Also went back Monday about 6:30 and they were slow (used to not be open Mondays) but service was still real fast. Great food, nice people and good value for the price. Check them out!!

This place is amazing! My go-to place for BBQ. The staff are friendly and patient. The food is by far delicious! (Their Mac and Cheese is mm mm mm good!) The environment is very warm and interesting (pirate stuff....everywhere) I have been coming here once a few weeks for the last few months and do not plan on stopping!

  • William W.

Rare are the times that I have a spiritual experience from a meal, but this is one of those times. The place kind of looks like a stop off a highway, but don't let the outside deter you from going in. Once you're inside you'll see a wide array of pirate themed stuff that just kind of adds to the whole experience. The menu is huge with BBQ being the main force. I had the full rack of ribs and wasn't disappointed in the least: the meat Falls right off the bone and you get enough sauce to drown a toddler. I only got to try the seasoned fries but they were absolutely phenomenal. 5/5. Give me more.

  • Amy C.

The Marley is really good! It's a chicken BBQ sandwich with white BBQ sauce and cole slaw on top that has a kick. It's a huge sandwich that could have easily been split by two, especially if you add a few sides. I really like their pickles which are help your self, by the ketchup. I always like a food place that also offers shopping! We had a few good laughs at some of the wacky antiques.

I've been here quite a few times. Very good barbeque and sides, served fast from the counter. Not something I'm in the mood for too often, but I'm never disappointed when I go. I always get pulled pork of some kind or another, which is the correct choice at this sort of place.

Two word review: Meat! Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Really, what else is there to say?? I can talk about the meat, or the peach cobbler that is a must have. Pirate gear everywhere. But it really just comes down to the simplicity of meat on a plate. Yarrrrr!!

Fun decor! The kids loved it! I had the buccaneer. It was amazing! The bun was soft and super fresh. The pulled pork was delicious and tender. I can see why they made Yelps top 50! Great eats, it's a "must try"!! I did live in Memphis for 4 years, so I've had some great bbq. This is the best I've had in Indiana.

Best bbq in the world. The Mac and cheese and potato salad are the best I have ever had. The staff is great. Noah, Adam, and Jamie rock! Will go back in a heartbeat and I drive 45 minutes to get there. Trust and believe, you will not be disappointed.

Arguably the best BBQ in the Indy area. Large portions, quick service, and the sauce is too die for. Not a huge dining area, but if you are getting take out, it is a perfect thing to take home for a good family me at home. Definitely a strong recommend.

Love it! The service is always genuine, the food is fresh and tasty, and the prices are right. You can't go wrong. I love the teriyaki bowl with jasmine rice and pulled pork. It's a healthy portion of food.

We ordered the hungry Hoffa meal and we were not disappointed. My buddy proclaimed that the California potato salad was the best he ever had! The meat was smoked perfectly and the pork and brisket was moist and delicious. I am a big fan of rib tips and I was not disappointed. Very meaty and tender with just the right amount of the goodness that tips provide. The place was hoppin but the staff was spot on organized!!

Sneaky-good roadside BBQ in Westfield! The pit is right in front of the restaurant, and was full of ribs as we were outside eating. Try one of the mash-up style sandwiches that adds coleslaw and fries directly to the sandwich. Sassafras sweet tea is a treat, and the peach cobbler finished everything off nicely.

  • Jeffrey R.

Ribs are fall off the bone good. I think the star is their BBQ sauce. Skip the rice..Mac & Cheese is good (take out portion is on the small side). I also had the pulled pork- above average. I forgot the Peach Cobbler, but Im pretty sure we'll be back :)

Big Hoffa's is the type of place that leaves you searching for the same experience elsewhere but it's never the same. Good price, fast service, consistent food quality, excellent BBQ flavor... I really can't say enough good things about this. It is my favorite restaurant and hands down the best restaurant in Westfield.

I literally just walked out of Big Hoffa's after my first visit and felt so compelled to type up a review because of how great my experience was. I've been to some of the highest regarded barbecue joints all over the country, and Big Hoffa's is now in my top 5 for their killer food, for sure. However, they are now number 1 on my list for the most exceptional customer service I've had.. possibly ever. Every person I encountered working here were genuinely terrific people. The service I was given was worth the trip all in its own. Plus, it's attached to a huge antique store; what more could you ask for?

This is some good barbecue! Unique menu, interesting ambiance. Definitely the best barbecue in the area! I have been here multiple times, and it has always been quite busy - a testament to the quality of the food!

This is a road side inn with very good food at excellent prices. I had the pork sandwich which was piled high with meat, fries and coleslaw. I also had sides of mac 'n cheese and baked beans. Everything was very tasty, but the baked beans were outstanding. Highly recommended.

Came to Big Hoffa's today from high recommendation! I already had my favorite BBQ place but figured I would try this out with my buddy. I got the buccaneer with beef instead of pork and it EASILY gets a 10/10 from me. I DO NOT give perfect scores out easily but this sandwich is well deserving of it! I highly recommend this place and will be going back very soon! Also got the sassafras tea which is too good to be true! No need to get sides cuz you'll be full from the buccaneer! Give Big Hoffa's a chance today and you won't regret it!

Big Hoffa's.. Big Hoffa's is the definition of southern comfort food, ironically located in central Indiana. I've only eaten there twice, but I'm not sure why. The first time I ate there I ordered the rack of ribs and some mac n cheese. Ribs were fall off the bone tender, smoked and dried to perfection. BBQ sauce was delicious, I would guess they definitely make it in house. Mac n cheese is the perfect comfort food I would expect from a place like Big Hoffa's. Today I drove by after stopping by the bank and decided to order something carry-out. I looked over their menu and decided upon "The Captain". Just reading the description my mouth was watering. "The Captain" is pulled chicken with mac n cheese and french fries piled on, with ranch and buffalo sauce drizzled over the top. I will note that the buffalo was a bit bitter, but it typically is. I'm a huge fan of dishes like this, everything you could ever want just piled on top of each other. It was very good. If you havn't tried Big Hoffa's yet, I urge you to. I know I've said it before, but it's the perfect southern comfort food, not to be mistaken with the rum!

Best BBQ in Indiana. Delicious, and every item I've ever tried is great. Sides are ok at best, but not bad enough to take anything away from this place. Sassafras tea is amazing! BBQ is the best around! And staff is always friendly!

This restaurant is the absolute best at what it offers: great food and incredible service. I'll be honest I'm generally not a huge fan of BBQ but Big Hoffa's is just so good with their meats that I can't help but eat every bite and love it. The atmosphere is unique with it's eclectic collection of pirate flags and gear and our daughter loves it! My family moved out to California and then moved back again recently and the first place everyone wanted to go when we got back is Big Hoffa's! This place is the absolute best. Don't miss out! Even though we live about 30- 40 minutes away the trip is worth it!

Great place for BBQ. The pulled pork and the chicken are both excellent. I consistently stop by to take a 1/2 pound of pork home for tacos. The BBQ sauce is a great addition but definitely not needed. The service is always friendly and quick... Even when the line is out the door!

This is my second favorite bbq spot in the Indianapolis metro area. The meat is outstanding. Whatever they do when they smoke it packs a ton of great flavor into it. The only thing keeping it out of the number one bbq spot is the sauces. They have good sauce but not amazing sauce. What they lack in amazing sauce they make up in crazy combinations for their sandwiches. They put fries on bbq. They put bbq on mac and cheese. They really do it all. The place is small but the services is outstanding. This is one that's easy to miss, so next time your in Westfield make sure you don't pass it by.

Amazing food (try the hoffinator, if you're looking for something different), amazing service (the people who work there are all nice, even the owners), a good atmosphere, and pretty decent prices. My boyfriend and I love big hoffas and we visit all the time! We have never had bad service or food here.

Great food, quick service. Graves a quick lunch with my wife while on the north side. Why, I ask. Do ask the pirate flags have ask the fold marks on them? The need to be ironed, badly. Even pirates were not sui bay to fold them so well. BBQ was sure good.

The ribs were some of the best I have had with wonderful 'smoke' mark and dried out to the right consistency (5 star). The pulled pork was good as was the pulled chicken (3 star) with the sauce being the best part of the taste. I liked their beans and coleslaw too. Service was excellent and they had GREAT unsweet iced tea-even with it 10 degrees outside-my type of place. I would definitely go back for the ribs (notes from a person who lived in both Texas and Georgia for many years)

This was my 2nd time here.. the first being a few years ago after they opened (I believe?) I'm still not a huge fan of the bbq here, but there isn't a great BBQ place around Indy. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich along with Mac N Cheese. Both were just ok. The pork was smoked decently but was missing something.. Maybe some more rub or saucing while smoking? The mac and cheese was bland and tasted like cafeteria mac and cheese. I got the brisket. It's pulled brisket, where as I like mine sliced. The flavor was ok, but again just missing something. It tasted like it had been sitting around in a container most of the day stay warm. I'd love to see them cutting this fresh, but I don't think they do the volume for it. The sides are pretty small and not all that great. The drinks are overpriced.. but they gotta make some money somewhere, so? Good occasionally, but not a regular place for me.

Wow. This place has some of the best BBC ive ever had and i was raised in the south. You cant go wrong with the CAPTAIN which has fried, chicken, mac n' cheese, a littke hot sauce, and ranch piled high. At first, I thought that was a munchies combination, but it is amazing. The only issue to this place is I visited on a saturday and the line was crazy and the building is small.

Amazingly delish bbq sauce! It's so good that I had to ask for more. It's price right as well. Service was quick and people are friendly. The ribs just fell off the bone. The seasoned fries were amazing and the Mac and cheese was pretty good as well.

The pulled pork is very good. The ribs are outstanding and a good value. A full rack is about $18. I bring this back to the office like a squirrel with a nut. It covers about three meals. Then I have to go forage again.

First time here and I thought it was amazing. The menu is fun and full of great choices but also simple. The pulled pork was delicious and the potato salad and macaroni and cheese were also out of this world. Not giving a 5 star because she put a little too much sauce on the meat but will surely visit this place a few more times before I leave town and try some other menu items.

I'm not a big BBQ person but this place made me a believer! I had their pulled pork, baked beans, and coleslaw and it was a perfect day to enjoy my meal outside. I don't think that you would have a bad meal here.

I simply crave the pulled pork at Big Hoffa's! The staff is always friendly and the service is quick. For someone who shuns anything resembling a rut... I'm surprised Big Hoffa's has become an almost weekly stop.

This was our first time to Big Hoffa's. Based on all the great reviews we wanted to give this a try. While I'm not going to say this was the best I've ever had, I will say that it was good. I had the pulled pork and the meat was good and tender, and a bit on the moist side. The sauce was good but could have used a little more. The potato salad was okay and so was the Mac n cheese. The fries were good and have a little kick to them. My wife liked the cole slaw and her pulled pork sandwich. Decent sweet tea and the rollers were okay. Overall I would say good but not great. What I did like was the smallness of the place. I think there may be more seats outside than inside. We would have sat outside but with no shade and no umbrellas set up it was too hot. The place wasn't packed but it was a good steady flow. While not the good southern BBQ I'm used to from my days living in the south but for Indiana it's not bad. I would go again when I need a BBQ fix.

We used Big Hoffa's for a wedding reception this weekend. Very great to work with in every planning detail! The best thing was that our guests absolutely loved the food! Second best thing was that we had a few leftovers to enjoy the last couple days after the wedding! Adam you're the best!

Fantastic local place for some amazing BBQ. They slow-roast all of their own meats in their smoker out front. The owner is friendly and conservable if you ask questions. It is one of the hidden gems here in Westfield that local residents like me are so proud of. Do yourself a favor....get over there and get some!

There's a reason why this place in becoming a regular on Indy's A-List: it's phenomenal. I live within 5 minutes of this place, but drove past it for years not realizing the deliciousness that was tucked away at the end of an antique mall. Now, my family eats here weekly. Our favorites include their pulled brisket, ribs, and pulled chicken for the main course and the seasoned fries w/homemade ranch on the side and Mac n' cheese for the sides. They've got some great family combos we often order for takeout (The Old Salt Pack is a fave), and we always substitute the regular buns for their yummy garlic-butter rolls which make perfect slider-sized sandwiches. Don't forget to grab a half gallon of their Caribbean Sweet Tea, and finish off your meal with homemade peach cobbler. I doubt you'd go wrong with anything on their menu, to be honest. Aside from the glorious food, there's the kitschy pirate decor, and you can browse the antique mall next door which I believe is run by the owner's parents. Learn from my mistake, and don't drive by this Midwestern BBQ gem!

Since I recently moved to Indy, I'm making it my mission to try all the great restaurants around town. The first thing I'll say is that BBQ is so very subjective. Big Hoffa's was ranked best bbq on some list I googled so decided to give them a try. I drove out to Westfield from Broad Ripple and was surprised by the cute location. I really like how they're nestled into some antique mall thingy. I opened the door and was immediately greeted. The smell was amazing. The decor was fun and the energy of the place was also amazing. I wasn't sure what to order so they helped me navigate the menu which I really appreciated. The choice I came down to was ribs or pulled meat. Heck, that ain't a choice....get both! And so I did. I order a quarter rack of pork ribs and some pulled beef. My sides were potato salad and mac & cheese. Unfortunately, I didn't realize they had more than one sauce so I only got to try the "default" sauce. I like my ribs with a bit of a kick but the default sauce was more on the sweet side. I would highly suggest talking to them about the different sauces that are available and making your choice based on your personal preferences or what you're in the mood for that day! The good news is that the ribs fell right off the bone. They were as tender as could be. But...there just seemed to be something missing. They were good...but nothing really jumped out at me. The sauce was ok....the meat was ok...but just lacking a lil sumpthin sumpthin. There wasn't much bark on the meat which I was disappointed in cuz I love me some bark. The pulled beef was also ok. Without the sauce I might say that the meat lacked a little flavor. Again, not bad...just nothing truly amazin. The mac n cheese was my only true disappointment. It tasted very similar to what we serve at my work cafeteria. By no means was that the best mac n cheese I have ever had and I live for some good mac n cheese. The potato salad was ok. Nice big cubes of potatoes and the potato salad was sprinkled with some cayenne pepper which added some heat. Again, not bad...but not amazing. So overall...I'd say this place is A-OK but before I pass final judgement I'm going to have to go back and try the different sauces along with some additional sides. I'll probably be back because I really liked the staff and I do like to support good businesses. That being said, I can't inflate my review just cuz I liked the staff. More reviews to come!!

Rock solid BBQ! We had Big Hoffa's cater a lunch at my job and I was really impressed with both the pork and chicken. Super tender, great smoke flavor, perfectly seasoned. Both the pork and chicken get a full endorsement, 5 stars out of 5. I wasn't as impressed by the side dishes, however. The baked beans were decent but nothing out of the ordinary (3.5 stars). The macaroni & cheese was quite disappointing, relatively flavorless cheese sauce with VERY overcooked pasta (2 stars). As for BBQ sauce, we only were given one type (maybe they have more options?) and while it was pretty good, I would have loved a spicier version. Moral of the visit? Forget about side dishes here - you will want to concentrate on the meat. The pork and chicken are both quite worthy of your hard-earned dollars.

My son and I were on our own for dinner tonight and we decided that meant BBQ. Had not been to Big Hoffa's before and it was a real treat. We both got ribs and they were delicious!! Fall off the bone ribs and the sauce is very good. But what made the night was how friendly the staff is, they call you by name and continually check in to see how things are. Will definitely be back.

A trip to the Auto Parts store in Westfield requires a stop at Big Hoffa's on the way back. Big Hoffa's has the best pulled barbeque and ribs. Their sauce is a traditional sauce without all the thickeners, it is thin and tasty and you only need a little bit. Normally I get the pulled pork and chicken, but since I was eating in, I got the 1 lb rib tips as a meal, with their baked beans and fantastic cayenne potato salad. This is quite an experience, sorting through a full pound of rib tips. Only found a couple pieces that had bones in them, most of the plate was wonderful. They have a great fast takeout that works really well for large groups and will get you fixed up with buns and sides for a very reasonable price.

Top quality bbq for a low cost. Easily the best smoked meat shop in the area. Combine that with wonderful custom service, provided by true bbq experts. I highly recommend it!

This is my FAVORITE bbq restaurant! Friendly service, great mac and cheese, fries, and pulled pork. You can also order meat by the pound or catering. Can't wait until their new restaurant opens in Carmel because they need more seating inside.

I don't know why I waited so long to try this place. My husband has been telling me about the great food here for several years, and we finally went last Friday (2/15/13) for his birthday. I have one word to describe our experience - NOM! I typically don't like barbeque sauce, and while the sauce here was no exception to that (although my husband liked it) everything I had was phenomenal. I got the Davey Jones, which is mac & cheese with pulled chicken and ranch dressing, and my husband got 1/2 pound of brisket with mac & cheese and seasoned fries. The woman at the counter recommended the peach cobbler so we got that too. Seriously, I am not exaggerating when I say this was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The peach cobbler was the best cobbler I've ever had. We ordered a half pan of it and picked it up a few days later just so we could have more. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to try this place. Don't do the same to yourself. Go now. NOW!

No offense, Memphis, but I don't need to drive south anymore for fantastic BBQ! The big, black grill smoker out front lured me in, and the kitschy Pirate decor was fun and something new. (Read the menu & you'll learn what Pirates have to do with BBQ.) Everything we've tried here is always tender and delicious. Beef brisket and pulled chicken are big winners. Ribs are great, too. We bring out-of-town friends here and choose a variety of meat-only orders so everyone gets to try a little of everything. Restroom is extremely clean. Some booths, small tables, and we were able to pull two tables together for a group of 6. Picnic tables outside. Work off all that BBQ in the attached two-story antique store. Organized booth spaces and nice, wide center aisles avoid that claustrophobic junk-shop feel. Lots of variety. Unique finds included: equestrian jodphurs, side chairs with French script print, a little Breyer horse barn, and old farming tools.

My family and I stopped in here after going to a nearby auction and we were very satisfied! The bbq is excellent! I had the pulled chicken and pulled pork with baked beans and potato salad. The decor is very cool, pirate theme and the staff was very friendly. Just a nice little place to hang out in and have some good bbq. There is a neat antique store hooked onto it. Just come and check Big Hoffa's out, you will not be disappointed!

This review is for the catering. I ordered catering for my parent's 50 Anniversary party and Big Hoffa's did not disappoint. We had beef brisket, pulled chicken, baked beans and potato salad. I cannot tell you how many compliments I received. Many guests asked where I had ordered the food. One man even said "You normally don't get bbq this good in this area. Moreover, the catering prices are very good for the amount of food you get. I ordered for 50, easily had more than 50 guests, and still had left overs.

Probably didn't help that I was sick, but overall.... well read on. Wife and I were looking to get out of the house today, so we decided to look up a bbq joint near us. We recently moved to Noblesville and had driven by a place in Westfield called Hoffas, so we decided on it. AMBIANCE- Hoffas sits at the end of an oddly painted building. It's attached to an antique store, and isn't that large of a dining area (probably about 20-30 people or so). This is the first bbq place I have seen with a "pirate" theme. Yes, the shiver me timbers kind of pirate. As we walked in, we saw a smoker out front, along with a stack of wood. Well at least that looked promising. Oh yeah, they have a really NICE bathroom. No joke, check it out. SERVICE- The crew was all teenagers from the area. They were chatting it up with the people before us, but when we came to order, it kind of stopped. Not sure why, but it did. I asked the guy what he'd recommend. He said the beef, but then told us to get the pork if this was our first time. Really buddy? Oh yeah, he got my order wrong, but I'll get to that later. MENU- menu is typical of a bbq joint. ribs, beef, pork, chicken. They had a sandwich called a buccaneer which had coleslaw and fries on it (sounded like a sandwich from Primanti bros. in Pittsburgh, if people are familiar with that). Sides included "california cayenne potato salad", mac n cheese, fries, etc... On their website I saw they had lemon cake, but did not see it on the menu. FOOD- the wife order a pulled pork sandwich, while I ordered 1/2 lb of the brisket with potato salad, mac n cheese and 2 garlic rolls. After we ordered, we sat down, and the guy brought us our food. The guy brought me a brisket sandwich, with no rolls. I asked him about it, and he told me he saw a sandwich on the ticket. He said he would bring 2 rolls out anyways. My wife really enjoyed her pulled pork. She went on to say it was the best pulled pork she had ever had (we've been all over the country, so that was a pretty big statement). I wish my experience was as memorable. The mac n cheese seemed to be made from a mix, the california cayenne potato salad" was nothing more than Kroger potato salad with cayenne pepper on it. The rolls were cafeteria style rolls spread with butter and garlic salt. Sweet tea was not a traditional sweet tea, which I did not enjoy. And the brisket? First of all it was somewhat "chopped" which I thought was strange, and while it was moist and tender, overall, it was pretty flavorless. I doused it with sauce to try and save it, but it was pretty much meh. OVERALL- my wife said she would go back, but not me. Prices weren't bad. $5 for a sandwich, $7 for a combo, but if the food ain't right, it don't matter none. Celebrity Rating- Britney Spears

First off let me say there was one downside to this place...IT'S TO FAR FROM WHERE I LIVE.... Both dad and myself stopped in Westfield on the way home due to the reviews and were not disaponited. OMG, the bbq is wonderful. The ribs just fell off the bone and the sandwhichs were HUGE...I MEAN HUGE WITH MEAT. My dad got the special chicken sandwhich and I got the pulled pork and we split a quarter of ribs. My dad couldn't finish his and took the rest home for a meal the next day. I barly got through my portion of ribs/sandwhich and two sides. It's a tiny place but the service was great and the BBQ is top notch...now...can we get a location closer to Speedway Indiana?

Everyone claims to be a huge fan of bbq and I'm going to take that stance as well. I tried Hoffa's for the first time around 6 on weeknight and they were very busy...always a good sign. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The BBQ was VERY tender and the highlight of the meal. For my sides I chose coleslaw and the macaroni and cheese. Unfortunately, these didn't live up to my standard. The coleslaw was very light, which I usually like, but this one didn't have much flavor at all. The macaroni and cheese noodles were way too soft and appeared as though it had been in a warmer all day. I would definitely try this place again, but was a little disappointed in the sides.

Holy crap! i finally found decent bbq in Indy after 10 years!!!! Actually, calling it decent is not fair. It's REALLY good. These guys have a smoker and they know what they're doing with it. They're pumping out some badass pulled pork sandwiches and hiring a crazy friendly group of people to dish it out. We need more places like this in Indy!

YUM! Super friendly staff, quick service, and the food is amazing! Definitely a favorite. My new favorite is the Terriyaki Bowl. It's a generous helping of perfectly cooked Jasmine Rice topped with their slow cooked melt-in-your-mouth chicken and the most amazing terriyaki sauce I've ever tasted. I'm hooked.

I'm picky about my dining experiences. I love this place. I absolutely love this place. It's dark and fast and cheap and tasty as hell. The pirate theme is really cool. My little children love it. They were really cool about giving us an extra bowl so my kids could split their sides of Mac and cheese (which is amazing, to hell with the other reviews that say otherwise) and fries. Some places are picky about splitting meals but my kids are so little that it saved us a couple of bucks. When I say it's dark, I mean that in a good way with the ambience. It's clean and everyone is friendly and I love the take home cups. My kids love the pirate flags that come with the sandwiches. As for the size of the sides, I always go in hungry and wish the sides were bigger but by the time I finish my sandwich, I can't really eat the sides. I think their side portions are very smart. If you seriously require more food than what big hoffas provides, you need to go to a buffet of some sort. It's a completely wonderful place and I would like to see it explode in popularity here in the next ten years or so. Maybe see it on the food network :) Keep it up guys. Don't change a thing!

Want some darn good food served fast? Come to Big Hoffa's. The owner and the rest of the staff are always helpful, attentive and VERY nice. I have been stuck on the same thing for such a long time (Hoffinator) but I am finally branching out to other items on the menu! My wife loves the Rib Tips. Here is a neat little secret. Order the Ribs and ask for them Hoffa Style (basically no bbq sauce but he does something to them that KICKS them up and adds a whole new dimension to the ribs. Rarely they will serve chicken wings (The best I have ever tasted in my life) Also if the owner gets a good deal on cucumbers he will make up jars of pickles that are OUTSTANDING and sell very very fast! I can't say enough great things about this place... I feel incredibly lucky to live only a few miles away!

I happened to pass by this place on the way back to Chicago after a little trip to Indy. Thanks for having me, Noah and the other two (which I just realized I didn't get the name of). Boy am I glad I stopped by! It was about 3:30pm and all I had that day was a granola bar for breakfast. I'm lucky I was hungry, because I wanted to try everything! In the end, I settled with the Buccaneer with coleslaw and mac&cheese, then also ordered a small plate of ribs. Also got a cup for drinks and got their sweet tea...perfect. I sat down and before I could really do anything else, the girl at the counter brought out the rather LARGE sandwich which was a (pleasant) surprise! It was a lot of food I had ordered. "Hope you're hungry!" is what she told me when she brought me everything. All I could say was "I am!" Sandwich first. Excellent presentation with the pulled pork and the coleslow on top (and french fries which I didn't know was IN the sandwich!). The top bun was slightly skewed so I can take in its beauty. That was topped off with a little pirate flag and the two sides next to it. Drool. First bite, juicy, smokey, sweet, creamy, tasty. All that in one bite and an aftertaste that makes you want more. The flavor of the pulled pork is definitely one of the best I've ever had! There is so much going on, but the blend of different tastes complimented each other very well. I devoured this so quickly...I just couldn't stop taking bites out of it. If Stride made a gum out of the Buccaneer sandwich, I would chew it all day long... Anyway, the ribs. I've had a string of not-that-good ribs recently, so I was a little down. After eating Big Hoffa's ribs, the dry spell was over! The ribs were tasty, and yes, fall-off-the-bone tender. Perfect. Just a dash of BBQ sauce was all it came with and all it needed. The sides were good. Their coleslaw is more on the creamy side, which I like! Their mac and cheese was extra cheesy. Which I also like. It's like they know me or something... Oh, the last thing. Gotta get the sweet tea. Very well made and I think even my "Southern" friends would approve! I loved it through and through. Aside from the food, the atmosphere is great. I'm not so much into the tackiness of the inside, but what is great is the staff. They are a great bunch of people and you can tell they have a big heart. You can tell by the food. You can tell by the laughter that fills the space. You can tell by the appreciation they show for everyone that dines with them. Highly recommended. I can't wait to stop by again!

Great BBQ. I like brisket sliced not pulled like here but it's the real deal. If they would research a good baked bean (like Famous Dave's) & mac and cheese recipes it would be a 5. The beans are like they were poured out of a can. Mac and cheese so-so. They have the hard part "the smoking" figured out. Their sides are very weak. The quality of the smoking bumps it up to a 4.

The best BBQ in Indiana, bar none. The atmosphere is fun and intimate, the people are super nice, and the food is top notch. Try the pork BBQ sandwich, or the Buffalo Chicken Ranch! The Carribean sweet tea is to die for, too. Great french fries, and really good homemade mac and cheese top off a terrific meal. Or, they have great cole slaw as well. You really can't go wrong here.

I lived in Texas for 13 years and got to be big fan of Texas BBQ, smoked meats!! this is as close to it as I have found in Indy. the smoker is a great ad for the place when it has its sweet smoke filling the air. The place is a real hole in the wall if there ever was one, if the place was as big as the taste then it would fill a football field! Big Hoffa's is the real deal and has the best beef brisket around. On a nice day eat out side at the picnic tables and watch the cars speed buy as you enjoy your food. I would have given 5 stars if the portions where bigger, BBQ should come pilled high on your plate. Remember to eat well and to live well, and please no chains!

Finally!!! I moved down from Chicago to the Carmel area 2 years ago and have been on a quest to find a good ribs joint. I've hit all the local and chain places even GT South; with no luck until tonight! Wow Adam you are a genius. It's a crazy place in an antique mart - but you can enter from the street side and not have to walk through the store; unless you wanna. According to Adam they have been there for 3 years and never spent a dime on advertising but you can't tell from the people pouring in. I had the falling off the bone ribs but he also hooked us up with some pulled pork and turkey. On that note he does about 200 smoked turkeys for thanksgiving; we already ordered ours. GOOD EATS!!!

Went here for the first time (it's about 45 minutes from our house) when we were visiting friends in the area. There were a lot of positive reviews, so we were excited. The interior is clean, with a pirate theme. Kinda weird for a bbq place, but it's fun for the kids and interesting for the adults to look at all the different pirate flags. It was clear that most of the customers come here OFTEN and know the young staff, maybe even from childhood. The counter guy was friendly to us and recommended the peach cobbler. We settled on a pulled pork sandwich (w/2 sides, $6.75) for me and a half rack of ribs (w/2 sides, 2 rolls, $10.95) for him. We weren't fans of the sauce...it wasn't gross or anything, just didn't have quite as much depth as our favorite sauces do. My pork was very moist and tender with no huge fat chunks, which I hate because the texture grosses me out. However, there were little hard black burnt bits in it...about 4-5 of them, the size of peas or lima beans. My sides were macaroni and cheese (definitely pre-packaged, but creamy all the same) and baked beans (awesome). The sides are small, but you get 2 of them and they're high quality...if you really want a bunch of a certain side, just double up. Or, an extra side dish is only 95 cents! My partner said his ribs seemed "rushed" because the fat still looked like fat and hadn't "liquified" (his word, not mine) yet. The meat was tender and readily pulled off the bone. He said "they're good, but not the best." I tried a couple bites and agreed. However, for the price, I don't think you can beat them. They're way better than ribs from a chain restaurant, and the specific rib platter we're thinking of was $20, not $11. His sides were cole slaw (from a carton, very creamy) and baked beans (loved them). As for the rolls: they're just normal Sysco-type rolls from a bag, but there's melted butter and some garlic powder or garlic salt sprinkled on top. Soft and tasty. The building is kinda weird, but it definitely is easy to find with the murals on the side and the smoker out front. The restaurant somewhat shares space with an antique store. We both agreed this restaurant is above a 3 but not a 4. If there was a 3.5, I would've used that.

Big Hoffa's is a great spot to get BBQ. Every time I travel from California to North Carolina, I make a stop to get my fix. The brisket is excellent and the buccaneer sandwich is on point. The sides are all homemade and the staff is super friendly. I highly recommend this spot for your BBQ fix

My roommate Jim and I were itching for an eating contest. If we were going to stuff our faces, we might as well make it good. Called my buddy Andrew & asked for a place with meat. Not a steakhouse, something different- he suggested Big Hoffa's. I had never been to Big Hoffa's before (I live on the West Side of town in Eagle Creek). We drove 25 minutes- COMPLETELY WORTH IT. We ate. And then we ate more. I'm not talking "mmmmmm that tasted good, let's have some more", it was "OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM OMG" and we ate 3 effing pounds of brisket, a full side of REAL mac & cheese and coleslaw. Mac & Cheese was nice, cheesy, and buttery. Tasted homemade, which was FANTASTIC. Oh, and BTW (I think) they actually make REAL coleslaw. My roommate was a cook all through college, and he's tasted his fair share of this stuff. Your average restaurant coleslaw is really watery, and to the average Asian tastes like disgusting 'miracle whip'd kimchee mixed with vinegar and water. This coleslaw actually had a small bite to it, and wasn't that watery like most places have them, a great change. Maybe it was just the pepper...but whatever it was, it was fairly good. The only down side I will say (which is why I gave 4/5 stars), is that the meats are not overly flavorful. They ARE tender and juicy though, which is what you want. And they do give you their specialty BBQish sauce that you can place on the meats, which was REALLY GOOD and completed the taste. BUTTTTTTTTT, then again, I'm Asian, and I'm used to everything spiced before/during cooking, so I'm probably over-judging. Ro reery. But seriously, why are you sitting there? Go drive to this place and try it yourself.

Let me first say that I am a huge fan of anything BBQ. I have been to Big Hoffa's twice now and have been impressed with their BBQ skills both times. The pulled pork and brisket are great. Juicy and tender with a great smokey taste. The reason for the 3 star rating is because the sides that they serve seem more like something you can get out of a can. I mean, really? If you are going to take the time to smoke your meats, take the time to make some home-made mac and cheese. For the amount of food you get (sandwiches are 1/2 lb of meat), prices seem spot on. I think both times I have been there my meal has been around $8-$10. Great place, great food, great service. I can't wait till it warms up and I can get my BBQ on outside in their picnic area!

This place wasn't bad. If your a BBQ person, I'd say check it out and make your own opinion its certainly worth a look, however I'll probably opt for other options in the future myself. -the ribs were tender but they were not overly flavorful, the bbq sauce was soaked on the ribs. One BBQ sauce. BBQ sauce is a very subjective part of eating BBQ. I am not a fan of only having one option for the sauce, which is typically the rich/sweet type of sauce - not my preference. Without the sauce the ribs didn't seem to have the flavor I'm used too from rubs/wood/smoke. However, they were tender and cooked correctly. Overall impression: Neutral

The staff is really friendly at this joint and I am in love with the owner because he is SO NICE and helpful. Great service all around and super duper yummy BBQ. My favorites are the pulled pork sandwich, the ribs (OF COURSE) and their rolls. I love me those rolls like nobody's business. OH, and If they have lemon cake on hand, you ought to order it because it's something that definitely tastes homemade like your grandma used to make. The prices are very decent and well worth it. I'll be coming back again for sure! I just wished they'd ship their stuff to California. We don't have good BBQ like that here. Big Hoffas! Open up over here puleeez!

I lived in Westfield for a couple of years before finally visiting Big Hoffa's - BIG mistake. The food is awesome (especially the pulled-pork sandwich and the crispy seasoned fries). On top of that the owner and his staff are genuinely friendly. Service is fast even when busy and the prices are great.

I went to lunch here recently, and had to wait a bit to get a table. Didn't mind that at all, taking it as a good sign about the food inside. That assessment was on the money. The smoked brisket was as as good as I had ever had in Texas, but I would have liked to have had a Texas-sized portion, and this was truly more Indiana sized. But, where quality trumps quantity, you can't go wrong if you enjoy smoked meat. The rest of the guys at my table raved about their lunches- pulled pork sandwiches. Very tender, good smoke flavor. Sauce advertized as 'hot' had adequate bite. Not the cheapest lunch joint in town, just topping $10. A little more brisket on that plate and I wouldn't think twice. One other thing I really like- a selection of good root beers made with cane sugar. Not a can of A&W. No HFCS. More than one to pick from. A place after my own cold heart. I'll definitely go back. This is bound to become my top choice for Westfield lunchtime dining.

Great BBQ! Fall off the bone ribs. Sweet BBQ sauce and tasty sides. Definitely worth coming to if you are in the Indianapolis area.

You people can't spell BBQ. My brisket was cold and floating in hog fat. Awful. Pulled pork was more like pulled fat. Never go back.

Great BBQ especially for the price. Had the pulled pork and it was good, the sauce wasn't bad either. The sides were OK but my wife said the fries were a little spicy. Recommend, especially at the price.

I stopped by Big Hoffa's for lunch on Saturday between 1:30-2:00 pm (10/08/11). This restaurant came recommended by a friend, so I had the expectation that it should be good. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich combo with potato salad and baked beans as sides (The combo comes with 2 sides and a drink). After ordering I filled my own drink from the Pepsi fountain machine, got some napkins/utensils from the condiment area (that only had 1 bottle of extra bbq sauce) and found a seat (at a dirty table). While waiting a few minutes for my meal to arrive, I realized the counter staff had not asked me if I wanted my sandwhich dry, with sauce, or with sauce on the side. When the meal arrived, the meat was a good portion on a basic white bun. I took my first bite and was disappointed. The bun was too soft and the meat was on the mushy side. There was the smallest hint of smokey flavor. Fortunately I did like the bbq sauce that was served on the sandwich. Overall the pulled pork sandwhich was okay, but nothing to come back for. Unfortunately the sides were a major dissapointment. The potato salad tasted like it was pre-packaged and the baked beans tasted straight out of the can. The portion sizes were also on the small-side, which in hindsight is good since they were mediocre at best. Overall I was disappointed with my experience as I could see the potential in this establishment. If I am in the area again, I might try something different off the menu. However, my first time experience was not good enough to make a special trip back. As a small non-chain restaurant, this establishment should do better with the little things. I should never leave a local restaurant feeling like I could make better at home. Postiives: - Reasonably priced - Decent service/wait time for food Negatives: - Pulled pork sandwich was average - Sides were mediocre (potato salad & baked beans) - Tables were dirty and trash cans were full (well after the lunch rush) , even though they appeared to be fully staffed - Only 1 bbq sauce option Additional thoughts: Why bother with a pirate theme if it is implemented poorly. For example, most of the pirate flags hanging around the restaurant needed to be ironed/steamed. They all had creases in them and looked as if they came straight out of the package that they were purchased in. To me this is indicative of the same lack of attention to detail that I got in my meal.

I discovered Big Hoffas this summer and have eaten there four or five times since then. The beef, chicken and pork are all very good, although I think the beef is the best. You order at the counter and get your own drinks, etc, but service is fast and always friendly. The sides are very good too--I'm a fan of the macaroni and the french fries.

Was recommended to this place by my dentist, great recommendation. First, try and get over the fact that the restaurant is located in front of an antique mall and the decor is Pirates, but hey, who doesn't like BBQ and Pirates. I make this a lunch stop every chance I get. I get the 1/2 pound beef brisket, two rolls (which I seldom eat), a side of fries and mac n' cheese. Usually have to ask for extra sauce for my fries. Love the mac n' cheese, only thing which could make it better is if they put bacon in it. Not many BBQ places in this area of Indiana, aside from chains, and would make this stop if traveling through or live around the area.

What a great find! I'm driving from the west coast with stops in St Louis, Nashville, Kansas City, Memphis and now Westfield. A-list BBQ cities. I was cheerfully greeted by the pit master and ordered the 18 hour smoked ribs: tender, fall off the bone, not over smoky - just right. Only one sauce with a great assortment of spice blends to change the heat. Well worth the drive from Indianapolis.

Pulled pork is lean and smoky, served with just a little sauce (but more available for the asking, for those of us who like more) and crispy fries. Who needs fancy ambience when you can smell the BBQ smokin' out front. Now that I'm writing this review, I'm thinking about a return visit...um um GOOD.
