I am on a pretty strict diet....I avoid almost all carbs now and I miss them dearly. However, I stayed a week in Evansville to visit my hubby's family and I splurged for the holidays on lots of fun junk food, including a take-out meal from Silver Bell where almost EVERYTHING is fried or overloaded in carbohydrates. They hand batter their onion rings and tenderloins so that is what I got. And....yummmalongadingdong. Deep-fried, tasty taste bud goodness. They were not TOO greasy but definitely could tell the batter was home made, as it was flaking off in my ranch and ketchup, but that's OK b/c it was caked on so there was plenty to go around. My tenderloin was good size but not so big I could not devour the whole thing. OMGoooosh...it was really good if you like insatiably awesome crispy pork loin battered to perfection and melting in your mouth. You know...if you like that kind of thing. I will say my hubby went to pick it up and it did take about 50 minutes. My sister in law warned us that the service and cook is a bit slow. I think it's just the nature of Evansville. I don't think I've ever had a FAST meal here, but I think this is b/c no one is rushing around or in a hurry...which can be nice, if you ask me! Also they make everything to order and they don't have a ton of people working. They are a family-owned local business just trying to keep their doors open. Give them a try if you are in the St. Joe area. There aren't a ton of other options and if you like tavern food, you'll really enjoy it! And for the price....it's really not a rip off at all.

If you want food after 8 pm, don't come here. Slow service, in consistent food. Thumbs down, will never go back.

Silver Bell is a motorcycle destination for us. The fried chicken is excellent! The slaw is vinegar based and very good. The mashed potatoes are decent. It is a hangout for the locals. It does get loud at times and very crowded on weekends. The chicken is worth the drive.

We had a horrible horrible experience here. There was nobody in the restaurant yet service was unbelievably slow. The food was not very good, the bathroom was beyond gross. Overall I think you need to try someplace else if you want a decent meal.

Good food, great portions, a small town family feel. We went for lunch and were the only dining table in the restaurant (besides some lunch time bar patrons watching the Military Channel on the big screen). They have a lot of daily drink specials that would be worth a visit! If you're in the St. Wendel area it's easy to get to.
