Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Not my kind of pizza. Way too much sauce. A lot of cheese. Too few toppings. That's just me. For those that love sauce and cheese this is the place for you. I am happier with tons of toppings. Plus I didn't really like the crust.

Honestly, their pizza crust and rubber are cousins. However, the wings are great. But because the pizza is sooo bad, they get a generous 2 stars.

Ate there last night for the first time with the family...oh...my...gosh...this is the pizza I've been waiting for. I do not live in Valpo, but the pizza place I used to like that was near me has closed; I would make the 45 minute drive just for this pizza. It's actually better than the place I used to like that closed. My favorite was the crust and the cheese! The crust is really crisp and fluffy, not flat and cardboardy like every other place I've tried seems to be. A winner. I'll be back for sure. Oh, and the garlic bread was delicious also!!

Best pizza in the northwest region. The owners are local and they consistently poor in to the community. There boneless wings are always good, however I do not recommend the blue cheese sauce.

For a college town, it's surprising there aren't more options in Valpo for good pizza. Shoe's is probably your best bet in town for a non-chain pie. Considering the competition though this isn't saying much. It's probably for this reason that long-time locals go gaga for Shoe's. But, for my money, there isn't much going on here. As far as the quality of their pie, it's average at best. Crust is a good thickness with a nice New York-style fold-ability. However, it is way too chewy for my taste. Topping coverage was decent, and I liked the more savory sauce. The biggest downer was how salty this pizza was. I needed a liter of water just to douse the resulting parched palate. Other than the pizza, Shoe's offers pretty good wings both classic and boneless. Throw in some decent fries and you can have a fine game day meal here. I wouldn't recommend Shoe's though if you're watching your waistline. Base on pizza alone, I would have probably given this place 2 stars. But, considering the pizza market in Valpo, they get away with 3 cause there really isn't anything better in town.

Great, fresh pizza that they make right there in front of you. Owners are a local family and are so kind, they constantly support their local community . The pizza is delicious. They offer great lunch specials so take advantage if two huge slices of pizza and a drink for $6.99 or you can choose salads, and wings as well. They offer wings and subs, be sure to try it out. I plan on returning more and trying more of the menu.

I have to agree with an earlier review about the pizza crust....rubber! After reading reviews I wanted to love this place. This was out first visit and will be our last.

My favorite pizza place in Valpo! Nice, very friendly staff and simply delicious food. A+, my favorite pizza!

Pizza was amazing! The owners were very friendly. Great to see a Syracuse flag and other memorabilia hanging in the restaurant.

Love love love the garlic bites. Husband had the Buffalo chicken pizza and it was very good but he asked for blue cheese dressing to calm the heat. I had a sausage, mushroom, and onion pizza and it was good. I wish the sauce had a little more flavor instead of tasting like plain tomato sauce. Love the family run atmosphere. Wouldn't be my first choice for pizza but would definitely come back.

I have passed shoe's pizzeria a million times... I live right down the street and I don't know why we never ordered from there before...we ordered the wings,Italian beef sandwich and the antipasto salad....all were excellent.... all to go and the $.50 wings were a great deal...my boyfriend said "finally some great wings in valpo"... we will definitely order again

Great place. Drove past here for years and always wondered how their pizza is. I took advantage of their lunch special today and was very pleased. The pizza was very hot and fresh and delicious. The ladies working made the experience great. Very friendly, outgoing, and called me by my first name. I hope this place succeeds. I see BurgerHaus next door packed to the gills and there were only a few patrons in Shoes when I was there. I suggest skip the wait and check this place out. It's Valpo's undiscovered gem.

We really like Shoe's Pizza. When you go to a pizza place, it helps to know what TYPE of pizza they serve, how their crust is, and what sort of sauce they have. Knowing this in advance will help you to decide whether or not you may or may not like the pizza. The crust here is hand-tossed style. It's a typical yeast dough crust. There are no bells & whistles with it-no special shaken on toppings on the crust etc. Just basic and good. The sauce is basic. I usually go for places that have more of a sweet sauce, but, the sauce here is also decent. It's not garlicky and does not have tons of spices in it. (I dislike when places do that) They also give a nice amount of cheese on the pizza--they don't skimp. I like that the pieces are big hunks, too. When you walk into this place, don't expect a 5 star dining experience with fancy waiters and cloth napkins. It's not like that. It's a non-chain restaurant and just a no-frills good-food place. There are basic booths, a few TVs (if I remember correctly) and a small video/arcade game area. It's not tiny and not huge. I would guesstimate that there were maybe 20 booths/tables (give or take). The prices are average and the staff is always nice.

Great place to get something to eat with my friends! Love the wings and pizza! Give it a try you won't regret it!

We're visiting Valparaiso. We researched what the locals were recommending for pizza and ordered from Shoe's. It must be that people's pizza standards in the "'burbs" of Chicago are low. We had ordered a sausage pizza. I don't know what was on it, yet the sausage-like substance reminded me of a really bad Chef-boi-r-dee pizza from the 1980s. The ONLY redeeming factor related to the taste of the pizza was that the crust had a decent taste to it. We had a couple slices and threw the rest out. When we went to pick up the pizza, the employees were friendly.

One of the best family owned restaurants. The pizza is so good and has a different taste the. Other pizzas which is why it stands out.

Great place to get pizza and their wings are delicious! Will definitely come back again. Also free soft serve ice cream!

I've eaten a lot of pizza. Like a lot. I make it a point of contention to try every pizza place in town to find the best, and this is my favorite by far. They do things the right way here; I've never had a bad slice. Plus their lunch specials are pretty much awesome. $6 and you get 2 slices (jumbo slices, so like a quarter of a pie) and a drink. That's pretty great. Their wings and sandwiches are good too, but I have a hard time not just getting their pizza. Now I know the Chicago style people will get up in arms about it being New York style, and no, it's not Chicago style; but that's okay. You can enjoy both, I won't tell.

I really enjoyed the pizza and the atmosphere. We went on a Saturday afternoon and they appeared a bit understaffed. However, our food arrived on time and it was delicious. My favorite part of the experience was that it appears to be family run. There's nothing I enjoy more than supporting a local family. I worked in our family pizza business when I turned 13, so this brought back fond memories. Try some good homemade pizza and support your locals!!

Great place. Friendly staff. They answered all of our first timer questions with a smile. Pizza was the best we've found in Valpo so far. Breadsticks were great too. We'll be back.

Great family business with the BEST wings in town!!! The owners are so kind & so are all of the employees!! I also think their prices are VERY fair (low if you ask me) for what you get. I've only had salad and wings there, but my friends love their pizza so I will try it soon. I would (and do) recommend it to everyone in Porter County!
(5)Michael T.
Very good boneless buffalo wings, some of the best I've tried. The new white sauce basil pizza was excellent, great taste. Just tried the new fried pickle chips, yum! Owner, Chris and family are always here and make you feel welcome. They have recently put in new TVs, new parking lot and new awnings, all nice improvements. Check out Shoes, great family place!
(5)Ryan L.
amazing, fresh pizza and the cheese bread was excellent too. went for lunch on a saturday and didn't have to wait, but it filled up fast. friendly atmosphere. we will return to this establishment.

Best pizza around. NY style fold in half and enjoy. My absolute favorite and worth the drive.

I went here last night with my husband and had the pizza!!! What a treat! It was terrific! The staff and owners are wonderful... We will make this our go to pizza place from now on.

Shoe's Pizza totally rocks. When my wife and I went there tonight we got to meet the owner. He is from upstate New York and those boys know how to do pizza and wings. The thin crust pizza was exactly how I like it and THE WINGs are awesome. Nice and crispy.Shoe's is defiantly in the top two wing places I've been to. We loved this pace. And will be back probably this week!
(5)Ann E.
Great pizza and friendly staff and fresh ingredients! I'll go back!
(5)Viv S.
Really good pizza I liked the crust. Fresh mushrooms is always a plus! And good fried mushrooms.

Two words, Beef Sandwich. Yes.

Some friends introduced us to this place this weekend. Wow! Their wings were out of this world! The honey barbecue sauce made me just want to suck on the wings! A hidden gem I must say. Everyone talks about their red and white pizza. I will have to give that a try next time. But will also have wings!

Ended up here after walking out of Greek's for a $35 minimum credit card usage. I'm glad we did since they made the best pizza we've had in quite a while! I highly recommend the white pies! It was a little pricey since it was about $35 for one medium two topping, one medium three topping, and an order of tiny garlic bread. The taste was ah-mazing!
(4)Beth M.
This is my favorite pizza place in town! My favorite is their red and white pizza with sausage and mushrooms. All of their toppings are fresh (no canned mushrooms!!!!), and the pizza dough is amazing. They have great lunch deals too (two giant slices of pizza and a drink for $5.99) as well as weekly specials. They do serve beer as well. It is always clean, and the owners are always there.
(5)Donna L.
Shoe's has easily become our favorite neighborhood spot for pizza! Carry out is good but the pizza is especially good when eating in - not only because the pizza is great but the family that runs this restaurant is wonderful. So friendly and they make us feel welcome every time we are there. Definately get the red and white sauce! You won't be disappointed.
