I've been to Old Style Inn several times. If you are over 50 years old I am assuming you'll like this place. However, if you are under 50 do not expect the servers to treat you well. When I've been in with my mother they have always been very polite and prompt with service. Our food has always been fresh and tasty. And if that service was consistent, I wouldn't have a problem with this joint at all. Old Style Inn is one of the lovely Eat Up and Wine Down establishments in Valpo. But if you find yourself out and about on First Thursday, do yourself a favor and skip Old Style Inn. The moment you let your server know that you are there for the $5 specials you are treated like you don't matter. This goes extra if you are a young person coming in to sample their specials. Other restaurants downtown offer a decent portion for their special. I walked in on First Thursday this month and was served two pieces of shrimp. They've lost my business for sure.

A nice surprise on the Square in Valpo. Menu is varied with several seafood selections, steaks, pasta - even half a roast duck (which I had and liked.) All four in our party enjoyed their food (baked Walleye DeJonghe, perch and a filet). A good comfortable bar along the front of the room with a guy playing guitar on Friday evening. Several tables with white tablecloths fill the rest of the space. Attentive service and decent prices for what you get. Was a pleasant experience all the way around.

I met a friend for lunch last week. The restaurant quickly filled up with an older crowd. I can't find any fault with the food but it wasn't spectacular either. I had a spinach salad. Perhaps because they were busy but our waitress didn't come back by to refill water or coffee. There are better places in Valpo... at least for lunch.

Stopped by for a couple drinks and appetizers on a busy Sat. Sat outside and listened to the music playing in the square. In that context the Old Style is fine. I wouldn't be interested in being more adventurous in my food choices here based on what other patrons were eating. The crowd seemed a bit older. We are a part of the under 50 crowd and were treated just fine.

Once you get past the outdated decor, this is a nice little gem. I love prime rib, and I have to say that Old Style's prime rib was the best I'd had in quite some time. My husband and I also shared the French onion soup, which was also good. I will definitely return!

had their corned beef and cabbage for St Patrick's day. Corned beef and cabbage has never tasted better.

Love the Old Style Inn. I go there everytime I'm in downtown Valpo. The food is good, the service is good and all at a reasonable price. The combination appetizer plate(w/ chicken fingers, coconut shrimp and one other item) is delicious. Their chicken Marsala is recommend, so is their steak w/melted blue cheese. The restaurant has an old style decor(hence the name) that I really like. Even though I know for some reason that doesn't appeal to some people. Now I've read some of the other reviews about the Old Style and some people are just too critical too write reviews. For example, one woman wrote she wouldn't go back there because of the older clientele that goes there. Who gives a crap as long as the foods good! Is this a restaurant or a singles bar?! Then another woman wrote that the place smells and I've never noticed no such thing. P.S. The filet topped twice baked potato is a signature item, very good!

I have never had prime rib before ... It's always just looked like a big chunk of meat, never appealing. Well, I finally tried it here and it is DELICIOUS!!! Huge portions, comes with a lot of side choices. So good. Really nice atmosphere, love coming here :) ((oh, and I read the other reviews -- I am not over 50 (I'm 32) and I wasn't disrespected at all. The service is always nice there. Very personable, they make u feel at home)) overall, a really great cozy spot in the middle of downtown.

Went here with the husband. We ate outside...THANK GOD, cuz it smells really bad inside. I ordered a fish dinner for $21. It was the smallest portion of fish I had ever had. The pieces of fish were so incredibly small. They gave me about 15 small French fries to go with it. The fish was good, but not $21 good. I went inside to go to the bathroom and the smell was awful. Smelled like an outhouse! We won't be going back for dinner again. We ended up going to McDonalds after for a burger because we were still hungry, and I'm not a big person...110 pounds!!! Maybe it was just a bad night and they were running out of fish....

We decided to try Old Style Inn after passing it a gazillion times on the street and didn't know what to expect. It definitely has an older clientele and the decor is dated, but the restaurant is smoke-free with good food. It was actually very busy when we got there for dinner, so we sat at the bar. I got the clam chowder, which was full of yummy clams, and the scallops dejonge. Loved the crunchy breaded topping and garlic butter sauce, but the scallops could have been more cooked through. My fiance got the filet-topped double stuffed potato, which was AWESOME. The dinner meals seemed a little pricey, but service was decent. Overall, we enjoyed our visit! I expect we'll be back.

With recently updated decor, this old time favorite restaurant on the Square is truly a haven for harried business owners, professionals and adults who want some quiet time along with simple, tasty and reasonably priced food. I love the option of baked squash instead of a potato with the delicious and just cooked perfectly prime rib. Having experienced many of the menu items, I have yet to have a bad meal. My favorite is still the prime rib. The tablecloths and linen napkins during the dinner hours brings back a sense of a more classic and elegant dining experience. As to the wait staff, always attentive and helpful when needed. A truly solid dining experience.

The food here sounds amazing, but for what it actually is, is over priced. Old Style makes itself out to be more upscale then bar food but the problem is the ideas don't transcend to the food. The decor and layout past the bar and booth area leave much to be desired. The bar itself is attractive and has a vintage feel to it. I was a little annoyed when I asked the bartender for a lemon water and he rolled his eyes at me. I typically don't drink at bars but always tip since I'm occupying a seat they could be making money off of . I didn't after that though. The servers were friendly otherwise. All in all I probably wouldn't come back here.

Good food, fair price and great service. They have a full bar and delicious desserts as well. My dining partner had the perch dinner and loved it. Wine and beer are reasonably priced. Went here long ago and it was dingy and dark. The new updates are great and add an atmosphere of neighborhood dining with regulars.
